working Android on TOPAZ - Touch Diamond2, Pure Android Development

Hi,
can someone help me with my issue with Android ?
It doesn't work after LOOOONG boot:
1. camera
2. Wifi
3. GSM module + data connection
This things are the most important for me and it doesn't work.
Do you have tips because this procedure upwards doesn't work.
I configure it with this procedure from samsanchez88:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=641021&page=154
Or do you have some other procedure in which will work: GSM module, GPS, WIFI and Camera ?
Thanks for help.

GSM Fix
In the Setup.txt you will notice close to the end there is a command Force_CDMA=1 change the 1 to a 0.
As far as the WiFi, It works fine on mine so does the WiFi Router.
Camera is not working yet.

Does will somebody fix the camrea problem or rather will fix this issue in Android 2.2?
Does the data connection works on your Topaz [ EDGE, UMTS, HSPDA ] ?

Currently zImage or kennel for topaz is incomplete, despite xdandroid builds are working fine on other devices except camera, such as original diamond. So, topaz has some functionalities being worked on.The lastest achievement is gps(buggy) and slight power management. The camera is not even supported by android according to xdandroid page. This does not seem to be zImage problem.
If you want most complete bleading edge kenel drivers and fix bugs, go to glemsom.anapnea.net/android/htc-msm-android/ and read people's comments and download accordingly.(some builds are screwed bewarned)

Camera
So Camera will never work on TOPAZ ?
It doesnt work the data connection why ? It also doesn't work ?
Why doesnt work moutUSB as external storage ? It also doesn't work ?

devs are working on everything.
camera support is comming that is only thing not supported by haret android system yet.
mount usb does not work because simply you cannot afford to give sd card to pc while you are using it. That does not mean impossible as devs are again working on it.
data is actually working go above link to replace zimage with latest version(do read people's comments if data is working. ) and it should work. is sad that shadowline abandoned the thread and android devs are seem to be working more on bringing leo to android instead of topaz...
go wiki and read advanced user section pls....

1. Do you know when exactly will work the camera [ in 2 months, 3 monts, 4 monts ] ?
2. It have sense to work as function "mount usb" - flash disk, I use it on Win Mobile everyday as flash disk. Do someone of devs want work on it?
3.Will someone work also on the power managment that the device can run at least one day ?
4. Why doesn't work the speaker or headphones when I play music ?
Thanks for info.

As squarememory says, the developers are working on all this issues. Porting android and a linux kernel to this phones is not a simple job. The kernel support general hard, but the config for the phone is very specific. Adjusting drivers to work with the phone's hard implies a lot of work.
Grab a seat, take it easy, they are doing an excellent job, and when they got issues solved, you gonna see the results reflected in the repos.

I know that they are doing goog job but can you tell me just rough estimation when main bugs [ Power, Camera, SOUND from speakers or headset ] will be solved ?
Thanks.

Mate, no one is paying them to do this, they're not a company or selling this as a product. And like everyone else they have a Real Life, a job, family, etc.
That will be ready when they have time and when they can solve the problems.
1 day, 20 years or never. No one will never know, so try help instead of asking when or why because no one here have the obligation to do it.

Dude, I know they do that for free and have theirs lives. But human is not patient if something like and that's my story. I appreciate their work because it's amazing to run different OS on the same phone.
That's it. I didn't want to bother anyone.

be patient or buy an andriod device.

I know the answer. And it is... "nobody knows"
Porting is a serious job, which requires TONS of inspiration, time and knowledge. Let's suppose "knowledge" is a fixed value (at least not decreasing during the process), but "time" and "inspiration" can't really be estimated.
In other words, it's a hack and it will be there... when it is ready

for this to work you'll need to have the latest "modules-*******" for topaz file

For connection with sd-card and management about android, read this thread.
With the last kernel and XDAndroid it works like a charme.

[Q] Main GalaxyS bugs or bad features.

Hi! I hope to write in the right area, but if not I ask someone to move my post in the right one.
Now I have a HTC Diamond device, but I've to change it for a GalaxyS or an iPhone4.
I would like to buy a GalaxyS device, but I read many posts about bugs, lags, gps problems, so I wonder if it is a great choice this GalaxyS.
I like android and all the development opportunities around it (thanks to XDA), but it seems to be not so stable yet...
I flashed many ROMS on my Diamond in the past, so it's not a problem to do the same for my GalaxyS, but problems are fixed? The GPS works fine? Maybe not...
Maybe with Froyo 2.2?
iPhone4 is not so open as an Android device, but it's a very stable device!
What do you think about?
coming from a winmo background you're gonna love the galaxy s! its miles ahead in terms of refinements, polish and brilliant integration. The GPS problems are nothing so critical...its more of a sw fix im guessing. I live in India, and i have ZERO problems on my GPS....i feel the bug is something country/carrier specific.
there are many things to love and obsess with the galaxy s....go get yourself one, you sure wont regret it
While I'd love to echo what dreamtheater39 has said, I can't. It's a brilliant phone, but after having mine for just under a month, it's starting to lag like crazy, and in the last two days I've had a ton of dropped calls and the phone has switched itself off/crashed three times in the last few hours resulting in data loss because the power button doesn't respond (forcing me to hard-reset the phone).
All I can say is that, if you do get one, have an open mind. And make sure you don't get locked into a lengthy contract in case things do go awry.
same here GPS working great since day 1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775450
Maybe I got a lemon
Maybe I got a lemon but I can not stand the i9000. I have 4 bugs that drive me crazy.
1. Market Place hangs at starting download. I have to do a factory reset to download an update an app.
2. GPS just stops working or it puts you on a different street when you are using navigation. The worst part is then it has to recalculate the directions twice, once for the wrong location and then again for the correct location, which is a real pain in the pocketbook when you are rooming.
3. Receives invalided cert from a hotspot connects the 1st time then never again. So I cannot use my hotspot at work, my old iphone connects no problem.
4. Does not always switch between wifi and mobile network. Have to go to airplane mode and back to get 3G network. (I tried changing the wifi sleep settings)
Mmmm...so maybe it's a good device, but I understand that who had an iPhone before it seems to be a step backward...is it?

Kovsky Kernel Development [2.6.35]

This thread is dedicated to the development of the 2.6.35 kernel for the Xperia X1 (HTC Kovsky) device.
Alex (sp3dev) has done a wonderful job so far to port a lot of his pervious 2.6.27 work into this branch. His source code can be found here: http://gitorious.com/~ast/linux-on-qualcomm-s-msm/alex-linux-xperia
It’s possible to build the source and boot the kernel, but no functionality beyond that is functioning so far (i.e. it won’t connect to your GSM network or be able to detect touch on the screen).
Eventually releases will be posted here; hopefully other developers can submit patches, recommendations, etc.
Thanks, and stay tuned!
Great, expecting the completely new kernel!
Stay Tuned, YES!!

yes, I think we have to use this thread to stay up to date with the kernel development.
My opinion is that there are few developer that continue to port android on kovsky, the Alex branch is one the most active. So I'll follow you.
Thanks and keep going.
OK starting with the offtopic in development thread again (sorry), but what are the advantages of the new kernel?
Mainly to clean up the code and iron out bugs (probably to merge with mainline linux one day).. But anyway, just for fun..
Alex can you just do some quick fixes and compile .35 version for NEOPEEK GINGERBREAD ROM ???
That's would be great thing for X1 community
no, unfortunately not. it requires much more than small fixes. porting microp and touchscreen drivers is a huge PITA. and i want to port some nand bootloader first
Ok thanks for answer...
But, i didn't understand what you mean by that bootloader...you wanna make DIRECT NAND ADROID BOOTLOADER for X1 ?
Anyway is that what you love to do or you know how to do it ?
If you need any help from me i am here. I am not good with LINUX terminal, but i know VB.net, C#, and a little C++.
Thanks for everything rusian brother
This looks like the stuff they are doing here https://www.codeaurora.org/gitweb/q...it;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/android-msm-2.6.35, whats different?
Ok, a very experimental zImage. Only for those of you guys that have much free time and nothing to do...
http://www.mediafire.com/?a1rzi5embishqd7
It contains:
kernel 2.6.35.7
Working:
Touchscreen
Sound/headset (with the new libraries from jbruneaux). You need to copy AudioFilterTable.csv, AudioPara3_XC.csv renamed to AudioPara3.csv, AudioPreProcessTable.csv from \Windows to the root of sd card. All in all, this means you can use custom acoustic tables and sound quality will improve greatly.
LEDs. Completely reworked, doesn't hang with custom triggers. Do 'echo mmc0 > /sys/class/leds/green/trigger' to have fun and let the green led blink like on your desktop when accessing sd card.
Phone calls (huh. i have not tested mic though)
Keyboard/keypad.
USB - will probably fail if booting with usb plugged. replug to activate. some power management was reworked (will need to fix that glitch with booting with usb in), but now the power of ulpi is disabled when usb unplugged - less drain
Battery monitor/Charger - less hackish now. Uses linux power system to drop voltage/monitor charging. The charger status updates instantaneously on plug/unplug
Shutdown/reboot
Not working yet:
GPRS/PPP (alright.. you are free to fix the userspace, ril and scripts to choose the correct smd channel. i will not add the hack swapping channels 1 and 7 to the new kernel)
GPS (will just crash. but probably more a userspace thing, though)
Bluetooth (rfkill is there. it will hang dead if you try to access the serial port, though)
WiFi
Qwerty backlight (i'm just lazy)
Vibra (look up the previous point)
Camera (WIP)
Optical Joystick
To make sound work, copy the two .so files to /system/lib. They are incompatible with previous kernels (htc-linux tree) and vice versa, this kernel is incompatible with the old libraries.
Do NOT set pm.sleep_mode to 0 or 1, it is not yet working
So, you can see that this is highly experimental and a WIP, it's more a proof of concept, but if you have time, you could try it to see if it boots for you..
I guess like everyone here... i just want no more button freezes! everything else is currently working acceptably for me!
Wow, amazing you managed to get 2.6.35 working on our mobile phones, I like what you have done with the LED's And reponse time was impressive and it felt very speedy, had sadly some issues that prevented me from running any benchmarks.
Honeycomb is not working will with this new kernel, could not connect to any network, it was continiously switcing flight mode on off preventing any kind of network from working. Could not browse the filesystem with included filebrowser, I do wonder why as I had not problem accessing /sdcard from a terminal.
Do you know why the existing froyo libraries have problems with the updated kernel?
No, i have no problems. Ril works fwiw
http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/6028/devicefn.png
So, maybe you need to do a wipe before booting. Anyway, it is nowhere near working, so i guess it is pointless digging into the userspace before getting all hardware on 35.
One thing. JB sound libs may be prelinked and conflict with your system libraries, so i think it's best to wait until this stuff is merged to xdandroid first
Was this kernel made based off source changes not yet committed to GIT? I tried last week building a kernel based on your 35 repository (which it built successfully) but the touch screen wasn’t working for me.
The touchscreen part was not modified, but yes, some of the code is not yet released. I am still working on headset and audio and plan on committing it later this week. I am now testing wifi. The card seems to bring up now, but i have not yet tried connecting. Setting up debian chroot for that now
But Alex,
Please understand that all kernels from .27 series have really unstable WiFi and really slow... If you can make WiFi to work like on WM that would be all what i want in Android
Thanks
It is really great work guys .. keep it up .. i'm waiting for this kernel ..
hope i can see it fully working soon .. as i guess it may overcome libskia problem as neopeek said .. which will give us the ability to port many awesome roms ..
Thanks too much Alex & Seandean ..

good work!!! what about FM Radio and front camera in the future?
Wow. after much trial and error, wl1251 'just works' as it should (well, actually the wl1251 sdio driver is a bit buggy, so for some time now we won't be using wifi interrupt and power saving mode). The patches for mmc are commited.. The rest, audio and headset, will come later

Excellent, sounds like 2.6.35 is getting close to replace the old 2.6.27
Do you have some precompiled wpa_supplicant and libnl.so that are working with the wl1251 network driver? Have added the compat-wireless to the old 2.6.27 but I am having some difficulty compiling the tools needed to control it and verify if it is working at all on the old kernel.
Downloaded a copy of your 2.6.35 source yesterday, can see that I allready now need to download it again to get your latest updates

Gingerbread 2.3.3 (March 11th version) running on HTC Topaz

Gingerbread 2.3.3 from March 11th running on my (old and outdated) HTC Touch Diamond 2 (Topaz). Was surprised how fast it is running - no crashes so far.
To get it running on your device please follow following basic instructions:
Extract XDA's FRX05 to the ANDBOOT folder of your SD card (yes it is Froyo 2.2.2 but we will update/replace it in step 2)
Replace the existing system.ext2 with the one you should download from southcape.org. first post, you can't miss is, version from march 11th. In this step we replace Froyo 2.2.2 with Gingerbread 2.3.3
Install newest Glemsom kernel (my choice: htc-msm-linux 20110228_202832)
Replace the existing rootfs.img with the newest one (my choice: rootfs-20110224-3dd92b8.zip), otherwise your device will not boot
Change startup.txt to your needs. I added pm.sleep_mode=1, otherwise my device would have wakeup problems
Tested & working:
Incoming/Outgoing Calls (in active & sleep mode),
WLAN/3G/2G,
Exchange (Email, Calender & Contacts) with push,
Gmail (Email via k-9, Calender & Contacts) with imap idle /push,
No wakeup problems after sleep
Hope I was able to help somebody

I took a complete build which was posted in the froyo thread. everything else is fine, especially the performance up to now
Good write up for people new to XDAndroid. But for people who do not want to take the time, here is the link to my bundles, where all of this is done in a bundle or you can use my system.ext2 files that are more recent builds from xdandroid git. These also have camera working

Do you have a cdma or gsm phone? if you have a cdma phone you need to add force_cdma=1 to your startup.txt
I did the exact same things as mentioned in post 1. The build is somehow unstable for my Topaz (Topa100). I have problems with sudden sleep freezes, no real Data Transfer trough the Cell Network. I cannot use 2G somehow, but really i have no idea what i am using. I have the feeling some of the upper bar icons are not even present with my device. I have only 3 icons active. Not a single one showing the Network type.
(i am not sure if standard android multitasking works with XDAndroid, if yes, i cannot access it)
The battery drains itself very fast. The phone enters sleep mode, but after some time the Led indicator goes orange. The phone gets hot, evidence that something is running on the device.
I don't have any ideas, what, where .... i really want to see a video of a stable working Topaz with latest build , so i know what is missing on my device.
Running 2.3.3 on Topaz
Hey, I've been running the 2.3.3 latest build (thanks The Jokah for the post).
Unfortunately there are a few kernel related issues and hardware sometimes won't turn off or be 'off' at all. Plus porting the OS will usually require more resources and processor power which means less battery life. (I hope I am at least remotely correct in saying that)
I've had a few crashes when receiving calls at first but as you can see below I have the settings tweaked to fix that, and i make sure to place an outgoing call first thing after booting. The only thing I haven't got to work is GPS which may or may not ever be fixed (thanks for those of you working on it) My camera and everything else runs smooth even though I'm underclocking it for protection.
I've run most common apps and some others like FB, Skype, Weather Bug (w/o auto location enabled)...I even ran Angry Birds and Fruit Slice.
so all in all its a really excellent build but still has the obvious issues when trying to run an OS package on hardware that wasn't originally developed for it.
I get on average with internet use 5 to 10 hours of battery life so good luck on that end.

- when i press the original power button it is not the "home" button
it does the same function like the "end call" button.
answer:
Q. Why does the end call button has the same function as the power button and how do i fix this?
A. The key mapping was changed in a recent rootfs release, to sort that out go into the Main Menu -> SpareParts and select the "End button behaviour" to be "Go Home".

It always toggles on/off properly for me when I have it turned on from WinMo before using haret.
However, sometimes it turns on, connects to my home network but doesn't really work (no data transfer), disconnecting from and reconnecting to the network seems to fix that.

2. when using facebook-app and trying to post my actual place the phone freezes after some seconds...
any ideas how to fix this?
thx in advance

Did you read about "first-call" need?
Is a well discussed issue on Froyo. I think this issue is still on Gingerbread. After each reboot you need to place 1 single first outcome call. You can make it dialing your own phone number till you listen the unavailable tone. Then drop the call.
After that you can receive calls very well.
been usin this build for 2 weeks now.. no real problems.... ocasional force closes... only when i try to run apps i knew better to not even try!!!
otherwise.. dont have the incoming call problem...
very fast... very what i would call stable.... definetly my favorite ANdroid build for our devices

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S noob here.

Hey all,
So basically I just bought my first android phone couple of weeks ago. Its the Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 running 2.33 Firmware.
It is not yet rooted (have read some articles found in these forum found them really helpful)
but I'm not gonna root it for now I think cause this is my first android phone Im still a noob (used to apple)
Now my problem is I will be going abroad in 2 weeks and could really use the GPS.Tried donwloading GPS Status but i never actually got a lock on the satelites (or it took too long that I gave up) I also tried the fix but the code (but when dialing *#*#1472365#*#* nothing happened lol)
I also downloaded loads of GPS software such as AndNav2,Wisepilot,Navigon,CoPilot,Sycig but 90% of those gave me an error when I try them such as this software cannot be started on your device.
Is there any good GPS software/app which does not require an internet connection (pls not offline maps but like turn by turn app or similar.)
Thanks a lot.
Personally i use Copilot live 8
maybe you could flash the phone to a clean stock ROM and then try again ??
Good Luck!!
So I finally managed to fix it and get a fix on the satellites
Now my last problem is, I need a good turn by turn app that does not use internet (except maybe for downloading maps first time etc.)
Thanks.
Hmm anyone?
I'm using Navigon. You need an internet connection to download the maps. Following that, there is an option to turn off internet connection. Go to Menu>Settings - second option from the top.
in my personal experience... you need to learn how to root, flash firmware, etc...
i'm also a noob and used to apple devices..
before my galaxy s get great firmware (thx xda-dev), i miss my iphone so much...
but after flashed with great firmware, everything working great, nice apps.. and so on,
also a great benefit for me, i know how to do those things... and i can say bye2 for my apple devices now.. even one great iphone 5 wont help me back to apple
just PM me if you need anyhelp
hope you enjoy your sgs as much as i do...

Hello
I'm currently testing this CM12 build of yours, and it seems to work great in general - but i do have some troubles with my data connection.
I can see that i'm not the only one, and for me it's a crucial that I have my data connection available when I'm not able to connect to a wi-fi.
I use LTE and sometimes it just disappears, and show an ! in the signal-icon - and then sometimes it reappears (as of right now, it just reappeared and started working, for no apparent reason)
I'm not sure what causes this, but i will look into possible reasons in the next coouple of days.
keep up the good work!

xposed
Could you test Xposed also on this rom?
tried installing the latest build (20150213) from winxusers website - now my unit wont go past the startup logo... did not try to wipe first though, wil ltry that now.
3g ist not working
Hallo thanks for this beatiful ROM.
3G is not working
3g no work the last update
Even without works 3g not understand why they say this repaired -.-
hello again
I did a full wipe and installed the 20150217 update. my device booted from that one, and is working somewhat ok. data connection (LTE) is still very dodgy, and will sometimes stop working without warning. I cannot replicate the error on purpose, and thus, I cannot tell you what the error is, exactly.
It might be when i move around and change connection to other antennas in my area - but I'm not certain.
3g is not working on the i9305n and someone also mentioned it not working in the UK
agni kernel
AGNI PureCM kernel is not working in this rom. . :/
Hello again
I've been using the latest build for some days now, seem to work quite good, but still have some issues.
Data connection is still not working 100%, I still lose the connection from time to time, with no apparent reason behind it. although I usually use LTE, I will try to test if manually setting it to 3G will help.
Video playback is awful. Colors are all wrong and the playback is laggy and slow to load. Sound seems ok though.
gps seems to work fine, it accurately found my position within a few seconds.
Nothing more from me, this time.
Keep up the good work!

For me, not working 3g with anyone config
3G does not work and some please tell that annoying andreazimba idiot to stop telling people that it does. There are people in various European countries stating the same thing. 3G does not function!

Agreed, this annoying little 15yr old is slowing down the good work being done by devs by prompting them to avoid the main issue with this rom which is the non functional 3G.

im sorry unfortunatly i cant seem to fix the 3g issue but there is some people saing if you set it to 3g only then it seems to work,, i dont know why some people have working 3g like me and others dont. but unfortuneatly theres no fix just yet
For me, absolutely no problem for 3G even if I stay on LTE prefered.
