I Think i trashed my recovery.... =(

so i tried to update my recovery image on my cdma hero. i am currently running 2.3.3 freshROM and everything works fine, but i was gonna try out a froyo rom for the heck of it and decided i would update my recovery first.
well it failed with a lot of out of memory error, and now if i hold down the home and power buttons like i normally do, it just sits at the white htc screen until i pull the battery. it does still boot into the rom though, no issue there and i can still boot into the bootloader via adb.
Am i correct to assume that at this point if any thing happens to my phone it will be toast as i do not have a recovery image?
would anyone want to point me in the right direction of fixing this issue?
i did some forum searching but i couldn't find the exact info i was looking for to restore my recovery image to a working usable state. nothing works.
What recovery image were you putting on?
If no one else can come up with a fix or a suggestion, I'd RUU back to the .5 stock rom and start over. Once you get that far and root the phone and put the recovery back on, go into nandroid and do a restore from the last backup you made.
Sounds like maybe you didn't adb remount before flashing. Try flashing it again, and make sure you found it in these hero cdma forums.

i used recovery-RA-heroc-v1.6.2-blue.img i dont think i remounted the sdcard first like the second replier said. i think i am just going to revert back to the .5 ruu and re root then reflash all over again. i knew i was missing a step. i am just thankful that the phone booted into the main rom still thank goodness because i would have been lost without it! thanks for the advice, i figured that would be the easy way to do it.
Go to market, get clockwork mod.
Then go back to your old ra.
No need to ruu.
I had the same problem and fixed it this way.
ROM Manager by clockworkmod.
Can't you just reflash while booted in the ROM?

You can do it booted in the rom.
Just put the recovery.img on your sdcard NOT in a folder. And type this
adb remount
adb shell
cd /sdcard/
flash_image recovery recovery.img
reboot recovery
Make sure you type the name exactly as its on your sdcard caps and all.

This way you don't have to start from scratch.
Don't bother using Amon_RA's recovery. I've found that ClockWork MOD has MUCH MUCH MUCH more features. It can also flash unsigned .zip files, so hopefully we'll no longer have to sign stuff in the future

[Q] Flashing the proper clockworkmod

Greetings Everyone,
I am really stuck with this phone that I am working on right now. I wanted to simply flash a new rom to this phone and I started by rooting the phone which was successful. Once I had done that I downloaded Rom Manager and flashed the recovery mod to the phone. However, It seems that the recovery mod that I had chosen for the P990 was incorrect. As a result when I try to flash any rom or even revert back to my back ups from CWM I simply get the Boot Loop. I am almost convinced that the problem lays with the CWM version that is installed. Therefore, My question is how do I flash a different CWM and I need a step by step help with this since I dont know very much about this process.
All your help is greatly appreciated.

Philz Advance Recovery Help

So after sooo much work to get my phone unlocked a rooted, What now?
Ive found the "Begginners Guide" post on this forum and i will be following that guide to download and install the basic things like Titanium Backup, Rom toolbox and stuff, but what am i suppose to use the CWM for? Its really confuzing for a first time user.
It goes on alot about backing up. how do i back up my device in the stock state? as it is now... as a fresh install. so when i mess it up i can just revert back to this state?
Is there a tutorial or something to teach me how to use Philz Advance Recovery so i dont have to ask loads of questions on here.
Thanks
*Managed to find a Tutorial on this website through Google* (sorry for wasting a thread)
The CWM it's a recovery. With a recovery you can flash stock or custom kernels to the phone or anything to modding your phone. The recovery it self is very useful because you can backup all the partition of your phone and restore the entire system if you reach a point of no return, than mean a big problem with the OS. I didn't see any giude for using the recovery but should not be so difficult, just read the options.

[Q] Loading A recovery

Hi there , i do appologize if i put this in the wrong place upfront.
I have just got a z1 and i would like to root it and load a Rom.
The bootloader is unlocked.
And I have managed to get root access via Easy root.
I also have loader Super Su
I think i might have to use the flash tool to load a previous Ftf file as my build is 14.3.A.0.757.
So I have downloaded this but i have not flashed it yet.( do I have to ??????)
I have no recovery TWRP or CM how do I put this on.
Sorry if im sounded stoopid , I had samsung before so little bit of different process.
I guess once I have a recovery and can boot into that I can load new roms.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
G
Ok so now i have managed to root and put a recovery.
Do you think it is safe to load any rom now?
