WiFi not allowing Gmail to be sent out on Froyo? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recent switched over to Froyo and noticed that when I am on my WiFi and I reply to any incoming Gmail emails, they don't get sent out. They still have a status of 'Sending....' on the screen. Even attempts to reboot do not allow them to be sent out but receiving emails is ok.
Anyone else having this issue?

I have sometimes experienced this on my rooted Milestone after restoring a nandroid backup or flashing a different firmware. The trick is to go to settings, manage applications, menu, filter, all. Scroll to Gmail Storage and clear it all. Return to the Gmail app and let it sync. Hopefully it should work again.
Sometimes the calendar also does this - repeat with Calendar Storage.

Error with Gallery and Gmailing photos: Stuck in Sending

I have this interesting bug I've discovered.
When I take a photo (or go through Gallery), then go Share -> Gmail; I go to send the the mail...then the mail gets stuck in "Sending..." in the Outbox. In fact, all outgoing mail is then stuck until I go into Settings->Applications and "clearing data" on Gmail.
However, if I just plainly go into Gmail and compose a message and attach the image; the email goes through just fine.
It seems like the issue is with the gallery->share->gmail portion.
I'm running MaDoCo r21.
Anyone know of a fix?
-Jason
I am having this problem as well.
Any updates on the problem? I'm running CM RC2
I have had this problem intermittently, I only clear data in gmail storage and then resync I haven't seen this problem on a while though
its been awhile since Ive had this problem as well. Sending emails in gmail just hang "sending" and receiving emails is fine, once deleted though I check on computer and they re still there...

Backup/transfer settings, SMS, call log, etc from 'old' N1 to 'new' N1

Got a replacement N1 from HTC.
Like with the first replacement, the Google "Backup" to transfer installed apps and settings does not work at all.
How can I either FORCE the "back up my settings" feature to work or is there a (FREE) alternative backup program that I can use?
well i dont think there's a way for call log and sms messages unless you use titanium backup. but what i do is use sms backup app (free) and call track (free) which run as a service at all times in teh background. sms backup sends all your texts to your gmail account in real time, under its own label, and call track sends all your call log to your google calendar in real time.
this week i needed to refer to an old text message, so i open gmail, find the sms label, and there is my complete text history in individual threads by contact in an IM style conversation, shows received and my replies. its brilliant. its a permanent record of all your texts and calls ever made.
i find when bouncing between ROMs and whatnot, that the only thing you lose everytime is texts and call log. everything else gets reloaded, like all apps get redownloaded automatically, settings get saved, bookmarks get saved, etc. so using those 2 apps basically saves me from losing anything.
EDIT: if you still have your old nexus, just install those 2 apps, and you can do a backup of everything now. it will take a little while to upload it all, but then from here forward just let those apps run all the time and you never have to worry about it again.
Thanks - I have been using call tracker. will try sms backup.
So how do I backup all my other settings (eg exchange, wifi, ringtone, ...) and apps?
As I mentioned in the OP, I can enable and disable Google's back up my settings however I want ... it just doesn't seem to work!

Is there any way to force Backup SMS to use names instead of [email protected] in the to/from (which is rather stupid)
SMS Backup & Restore app, as it says.
Call log Backup & Restore, as it says.
APN Backup & Restore, as it says.
All those back up the data to SD card.
All the rest is covered either by Google backup (if you check the "backup everything" on the old phone and don't check it when you setup a new one), or by Titanium backup.

I don't understand. It does use the names for me. All my threads in gmail are sorted by caller name.

For me WiFi is backed up by Google's backup. Ring tones are on the memory card. I don't use exchange.

[Q] Gmail Down on my captivate?

Its weird I can send gTalk messages, and can run the sync in settings but it wont update my gmail. I test sent my self a message from my phone and it wont send Its said sending for the past 4 hours and if I scroll down it tries to load older messages and gets stuck. It keeps saying no connection.
Any Ideas?
Tried a hard reset and a soft and a three button reboot. Cant figure this one out.
Did you try both in wifi and 3g? Also do you have that option in astro to enable download of zips checked? That may also be the problem

Ok I was able to resolve it by clearing the data and cache for gmail and gmail storage. I went through my actions and discovered there is a limit to how many pictures we can attach to an email or it will cause this problem. The only way to fix it is to clear the data. I can send up to chunks of ten 5mp pictures without it stalling the gmail app. Hope this helps someone else.

[Q] Sync Issues with Custom ROM

After installing Asylum Naughties ROM (which is fantastic btw) and I started experiencing sync issues. I am unable to receive emails/whatsapp messages unless I open the app...and then it works fine. I thought it was a force close issue and even if i let the app run in the background, it ceases to receive messages after sometime. The sync settings is set to "auto-sync app data". I've tried other ROMS (Carbon and SlimKAT) and I seem to be facing the same problem.
Thanks in advance
Try Push Notification Fixer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andqlimax.pushfixer
There is a thread on xda for PNF too. This issue does not only happen on the Note, but also on the Nexus 5...
Auto-sync app data is for whatsapp contacts only, not relevant for sending or receiving messages IIRC..
It is more a problem of "START_STICKY". Google it for further information...
Will try that and post results.
Cheers
Seems to be working fine now
Thanks mate
My pleasure.

Not receiving SMS/MMS on stock messaging app.

Hi, first of all thanks for the help you could bring me. My problem is that since yesterday night I'm not receiving any kind of sms or mms on my stock messaging app. Today I was trying to solve it but with no success. So I installed Go SMS Pro and to my surprise it worked, I started receiving SMS and mms, but still the stock messaging app is not alerting of upcoming sms even though it's receiving them (I think that they share a common folder and that's why if in go SMS pro it works it'll show on stock messaging app, so in theory stock is not receiving but just showing, am I right?).
For now I'm using SMS go pro, but I'd like to know why this happened. I read something about accessing a hidden testing menu (*#*#4636#*#*) to change the smsc but that menu is not available on my phone (any idea why?) tried the code above and tried using those apps that serve as a shortcut. The screen goes dark as it's trying to access the testing menu and returns to home screen, in other apps (like missing shortcuts) it shows as unavailable. I even edited the hiddenmenu file on efs/carrier from OFF to ON and still the testing menu doesn't appear. I'm using my phone right now with mobile data, wifi works well and so do phone calls, no problems at all.
I'd really appreciate any ideas that could help me. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 running 4.3 firmware, I updated from 4.1.2 a couple of days ago but didn't have any problems, I could receive sms normally. The problem happened suddenly yesterday night.

there is an option in Messaging app...Auto Retrieve - check if enabled....
if other app work with no problem it's just an app related problem..not something else...check in app setting maybe something is not enabled...
a factory reset would make it work for sure....but is too much...

Thanks for the answer. Yeah, I don't want to factory reset since I've just did it to upgrade to 4.3. About the app settings, I've just tried all the possible combinations. I'm just using GO SMS Pro for now but MMS aren't downloading. Sigh.

try this: go to Settings->More->Application Manager-> Select "All" tab -> select Messaging-> Clear data + Clear cache...
