[Q] Wipes and formats

One question, maybe noob ...
When we made flash a new rom from recovery, we made the wipes;
- Wipe cache
- Wipe Dalvik
- Wipe data / factory reset
But
I notice that when you make the wipe all data / factory reset, the system partition is not formatted, it influences the functioning of the new rom?
For sure, I always do the formats in "mount and storage".
- Format cache
- Format data
- Format system
Thank you! Hugs! :silly:

I only
- Wipe Dalvik
- Wipe data / factory reset
I thought when I do wipe data, then I delete the cache.
Sometimes I wipe SD for delete cache & thash of deleted apps.

Ok.
And the system partition?
When you wipe data / factory reset, the system partition is not formatted.
As I know the main files are in the system partition.

CWM Recovery Wipe Questions

Hello,
Can somebody please explain me what following wipe actions do and when they should be used?
- wipe data / factory reset
- wipe cache
- wipe dalvik cache
- wipe voltage settings
- wipe battery stats
Is actually wipe data / factory reset in CWM the same like in the android firmware itself?
Please let me know when I have to do what, e.g. when I want to move from stock ICS to AOSP 4.1.2 with A1 V1.8.4 kernel.

This is for E400, by the way.

I'm confused, How to format data, system, cache ?

Reading this steps:
BEST WAY TO INSTALL THIS ROM:
- reboot into recovery
- format data, system, cache
- make a data factory reset
- wipe dalvyk cache
- install rom and enjoy ...
How can it be done on GT-I8190 ? Samung S3 Mini
And also, What does "full wipe" exactly mean?
All you can do in CWM. There are,besides other things, this options:
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- and in advanced->wipe dalvik cache
If you will select this 3 options your mobile will than like from factory
I only have "twrp"
Should I install "CWM" also?

So basically, Format = Wipe?
I thought they are different term.

[Q] What is needed to do when installing new rom?

I have found this from here:
FIRST OF ALL DOWNLOAD THE ROM AND THE ADD-ONS PACKAGE.
1. Back Up all Your Important Files as the Rom is wipe-only.
2. Copy the rom to SD CARD and Boot to CWM revovery.
3. Click WIPE CACHE PARTITION -> wipe
4. Click Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik - Cache -> wipe
5. Click Mount Partition ->
a. Format /System -> yes
b. Format /Data -> yes
c. Format /Cache -> yes
6. Click Wipe Data/Factory Reset -> yes
7. Install the rom
Some ROMs need just wipe data/reset factory and wipe dalvik cache.
SO could someone tell what is needed to do and what those 5abc means and are they really "must to do"- things?

All to be sure, to not have any conflicts...
With TWRP Recovery, go to "WIPE" section and check "Dalvik", "System", "Data", "Cache" swipe OK button and all it's done in one step
You just have to Install your new Custom ROM !!!
To be sure of the answer you can ask pulak861 as I see these are the instructions of his rom installation xD don't worry I think they're all ok just to make sure you don't have any issues while flashing your new rom and testing it then, I followed all these steps yesterday to flash the velocity rom and nothing unusual happened, before that the only thing I used to do was a wipe data factory reset, and wipe cache partition too.

When installing an update (not a new version) of the custom rom you already have it's not completely necessary to do a full wipe/data cache, but if you have fully working back up, do it just to be sure everything works fine
