okay I recently got my phone and upgraded to 2.1 from the sprint website before I learned what rooting was. I don't want to do anything fancy I just want to get rid of the pre-installed apps that I don't need so the phone will run faster, is there a way to get this done now?

Hey people,
Can someone with a download server post the RUU exe for those of us that want to download from here so that we can get at it there are some screwy things going on at HTC's site prompts for ftp credentials and the like. Any help would be greatly appreciated....if you're worried about crashing I'll gladly take a PM of the link

Seriously? It will break root even if you are already rooted and using a custom rom?
WTF?
Also, if it's the same as the leak does that mean bluetooth is still jacked up?

you will loose root forever? Forever means never and I highly doubt that it would never be rooted again.

The likely hood of us actually rooting a 2.1 build is there, but it is going to take a long time. Someone with the know how is going to have to either A. Buy a Hero - unlikely after June 4th or B. A dev will take the dive a load it just to find root.
Eris only has root because of a rom that was leaked with root still in it. They were never able to find an exploit.
Droid guys are actually having to load there 2.0.1 OS back to root the new ones.
It is entirely possible that this phone never finds root again.

Thanks for listing this gunny. New site I've thought about doing, but at least I have a domain and server available.
This is the file from HTC's site downloaded this morning, FYI.
This the Official or the Previous "Offical" leak.

will be mirroring when I get it uploaded as well.
so do i REALLY need th htc sync???
Thanks for the mirrors guys it finally came thru now I'm just trying to download htc sync to my work pc so I can update... I'm not too worried about root, blah, blah. Someone will crack it at some point when there's something better to do with it. I'm putting 2.1 on my phone to hold me over until I can upgrade to the EVO or Nexus One once Sprint get's it .
Thanks again for the guys that stepped up to mirror the host!

Custom Recovery Image?

Does anyone have a Custom Recovery Image handy for Incredible, I want to verify Root with Jake Day, and have him take a screenshot.
Hmmmm. Looks as if I will be eating my words after all. For the first time this is not such a bad thing.

Hey acidbath. Is there any way I could get your gtalk. Id like to help and depending on what he needs I could most likely do it.
Edit: you should try to get a video or a picture. Screenshots are easily faked. Hopefully this goes somewhere. And how is he gonna flash a recovery if he doesn't have an incredible. Is his buddy gonna flash it?

And yeah I am asking for proof not just PhotoShop LOL
I have been workibg on the recovery a little. But since we have not had root (and kosh said he would suppirt the Inc when we have root) its been put on the back burner(new job and renovating my house getting it ready for my son to be born)
But maybe I can get something together this weekend.

I still call shenanagans, I will guess that you will not be able to get a recovery on there because the recovery partition is going to be locked.

I mean how did his friend test these kernels that he has without a recovery?
You can push the kernel without a recovery. All you need is fastboot.

Yeah I know...well...it may be BS or maybe not....we will see.
we dont have flash image built into our roms and to top that off if there is harware locks put into place than flash_image is useless.
Im not bieng negative just bieng real.
Yeah I hate to burst anyone's bubbles but there's no way
koush is going to waste his time on a recovery for the inc without proof positive of root and access to recovery first.

So rooted froyo has ota update?

so I've been playing around with my aria for a couple of weeks and turned my nexus back on thats rooted and sure enough I have an ota update available for android 2.2, which I already have on the phone.. possibly stupid question, if I update will I lose my root even though I did it bootloader method?
and I thought custom roms even if its stock didn't get ota's

Thanks for the link, it helped me, too.
You guys preaching to search (which I'm not against), I just wanted to point out that you linked to an entirely different site. Thus, had the OP searched *this* site, by your own admission, he/she might not have found what he/she was looking for. Interesting...
My 2 cents here...I had a rooted nexus one froyo 83b WITH a custom recovery.. which supposes to block the frf91 update..n guess what it didn't..my nexus rebooted..it didn't even reboot to recovery it just did a soft reset n when I it back on it had frf91 with no root access..so I'm like wtf?? So I tried to reboot to the custom recovery and yes..you guys guessed with...it went back to the original recovery...

Gotta agree, dont be lazy. Use the search like you should.
I just got an update notification also, and I'm rooted. I let it reboot/install but it showed an error. It was probably frf91.
ladies, congratulations on the update and re-rooting. i'm glad to hear that it worked out for yall.

May as well start looking for a root exploit for JB. I

I managed to lose it during the update, i thought i did it right, but the results say otherwise.....

I don't think many people are going to try and look for a new root method. Its been stated a thousand times on here how to RETAIN root. If you didn't follow those directions then you're not gonna find much sympathy.
BTW, is there a way to go back to ICS from JB 2nd leak ?
I have root if that matters.

AFTER UPDATE ALSO
Root method would be awesome! After a few hours of the update failing, I got fed up and decided to flash factory, and update without root (and yes I followed all of Matt's instructions to a T).

you could try this :
But i'm almost 100% sure this will fail, but it's worth a shot.
Anyways, the moral of the lesson here is that there are limitations to your phone.
