Can this not be the first question asked in every topic now. Root Will get done when its done. This will do pretty much the exact same thing has a hard reset.

I was simply asking if this ROM would help in achieving root, not if we had root? Can this type of response (flame) not happen every time a person asks anything related to root.

This ROM will only help someone achieve root if they don't have the device...
It sounds like g00s3y needs to get laid and is joining in on the Acid/Jake bashing bs that has been going on for the past few days... g00s3y this flaming needs to stop and people need to look past the douche bags that are trying to break up the dev community!
Thanks,

The ERIS was rooted with the assistance of a leaked ROM, so his question was quite valid.

Did the p-trace exploit work on the pre-OTA version (ie this one???)
If there were any pre-OTA exploits I think we found some great possibilities.
Anyone who was working on them care to elaborate?

what exactly does this ROM do to the phone, besides downgrade the OTA

Do you mean what would happen if you were to flash this rom to your phone? It would run as a normal phone (since it's just an HTC-signed rom, it wouldn't likely automatically give you root unless it was a test release, which I don't believe it is, however it may still contain exploitable bugs/flaws that could lead to a possible rooting =).

Yes it is, the second part of the statement clearly says what this will do.

Very exciting times ahead!

Wasn't the root from the Droid Eris about stuffing more data afterwards since there was no check for extra data after teh signed file.
This was closed already wasn't it? If so bringing up the Droid Eris is a mute point?
But I guess anything is possible but I remember the Eris hole being patched up

take otas until you get to 4.4 then look at the sticky in the general forum. come on. you didn't even take 1 second to read anything clearly. the first or second thread in the general forum is a how to for everything you could possibly want.
Really? missed it. I didnt read General since most how to roots are in Q&A. Relax bro. Its not my first rodeo lol And it doesnt even say OTA to 4.4 it says if you have this, then that, or this then that...

After you unlock and install TWRP reboot and TWRP will ask if you want to root. Say yes. When you get booted back up install supersu from the market.

[Q] How long wait for root ?

I'm getting my z3c on the 1., and I'm very excited.
I have a question though;
How long do you think it'll take before we get root on this phone, to open up for some more advanced functions ? I know no-one can say for sure, but you guys migth take a shot based on your experiences.
This will be my first new phone in years, so I'm not in the loop about how long this usually takes, after a phone comes out.

Would be a first step but useless until we got a recovery with zip flash ability
Is there a dev actively looking for a way to root locked bootloader? If yes, does he have a blog or Twitter? I want to follow his progress..

If we had a recovery, that tool wouldn't even be necessary xP
I'm guessing Doomlord will, in time, come up with something. Doesn't he always...?
Though I do believe we need to find a security hole to even get a recovery working (correct me if I'm wrong here).
EDIT: I've also tried every one-touch root apps and various Windows programs. None of them work ;-;
Damn you, Google, for hiring exploit patchers with such skills!

Patience is a virtue. But having the reason I bought the device go away if I unlock the bootloader is just unfair, imo.
I can't choose between a good camera and making my own kernels ;-;

Having bought all my devices over 6 months after they were released was probably much better for me than I ever realized xD
I'm tinkering with the idea of modding a stock FTF with root and whatnot and flashing it with flashtool. Anyone tried that yet? Or is everyone too busy looking for that one exploit they're unlikely to find?
EDIT: Back to the drawing board. Seems like things have changed a lot since I last took a look at an FTF.

you can make a prerooted firmware with prfcreator, but then its a flashable zip and we can only flash ftf files?

Well considering most people don't want to unlock their bootloaders and miss out on the amazing camera, we can only flash FTFs (Sony-signed software).
(No system/boot write access, so finding an exploit is crucial.)
Looks like my Nokia 6210 will have to keep doing its job for a while

Rooting G920A running Basband Version G920AUCU3CPD6 (Marshmallow 6.0.1)

Hey All,
I've spent days now scouring the web looking for anyone and anything to root my G920A running G920AUCU3CPD6 (Marshmallow 6.0.1). There is absolutely nothing I could find. I have queried just about every method, and I have several emails out to various developers, sw companies, etc., but nothing yet. Is there anyone out there who can help?

Jeez
Wow what a blunt reply. Anyway I have also been probing the far corners of the clearweb for a root on this device. No luck. PingPong root doesn't support it, SRSRoot says that it rooted the phone, but it doesn't actually work. I'm not going to try to flash a rom with odin cause i need to keep the data on it. Lmk if you find anything out. Peace.
I believe the next logical step would be to try reverse-engineering parts of the new kernel and look for exploitable bugs, rather than looking for work done on the subject by other individuals and attempting to classify them as the same thing.

I don't care about the data, since I lost it already anyways. I would be willing to flash via odin, but didn't find anything useful. Sounds like you may have?

I wouldn't even know where to begin with that, bit outside my technical expertise. Is it something you are familiar with? Or can you point me in the right direction?
Can I downgrade from the PD6 OTA? I am running 100% official. I see there are no tools for rooting 6.0.1, but can I odin down to a version of 5.1.1 that I can root? It's been a while since I have done that, and IIRC sometimes it's impossible to downgrade once you have upgraded. I don't care about Knox or Samsung Pay, losing those is fine.
Thread jacked! Haha
I heard you can, man. Check that 'Root 5.1.1 with a snag' thread that Metalcated started.
I think somebody mentioned you can. Usually you can't - you're right - but I don't think this bootloader was enforcing it. Worse comes to worst it'll just fail to ODIN it and you're stuck. No real risk of bricking. :good:

I mean, a good hex editor would be a start.
Maybe like IDA Pro? I love IDA :3
You could probably scope out some good Android disassembly tools if you look.
Maybe checking the AOSP code itself?
Maybe look into the Android system images that you can download with the SDK?
Not sure. A bit out of mine too, but definitely an area of interest.

Will be trying this on my G920A soon. (PD6)
Short answer: No.
Long answer: it's not public yet. I saw many people in other forums talking about a private method that allows them to root G920A 6.0.1 and untethered (unlike the one we have right now for 5.1.1). I do not have the files and I don't know if it's going to be released to the public. I hope one of the insiders leaks it soon because I don't wanna upgrade to 6.0.1 without root.

Hey mrmazak,
Thanks for your development and the support of this community with Dirtycow.
To clarify, are you seeing any exploits that could be leveraged in order to root and it will take more time for development, or is it just out of the question?
Thanks,

No, there will not be root. The security holes have been plugged. The tools used to modify the phones have been blocked.
If you installed a recent over-the-air update, you are out of luck - no recovery, no flashing, no rooting. Period. End of story. Done.
Never accept an over-the-air update for a phone that you want to root or modify.

Wow **** blu.
Guess I'll just return it, you know, cause **** sales too!
Sorry, I am new to rooting with many of my phones and I am getting very frustrated at how many developers patch the root. I used to think Android was friendlier for root than iOS is for jailbreaking, don't think so anymore.
Is there a root friendly list of phones new you have on this forum up-to-date?
Sort of hard to buy a phone requesting from the seller to have the "right version" on it. Ex.) blu phone prior to v6.6.
Thanks.

If you have custom recovery , then yes. The dirty cow part is only needed to allow bootloader unlock. So once it's unlocked and you have recovery , should be no problem to root
Trash talk lol, nothing is impossible just that you can't do it simple!.
