Maybe you could try this builds - XPERIA X1 Android Development

Hi guys. As I remember that I got these builds from the threads in X1-Forum working on my HTC DIAMOND maybe this is useful also for you as i think it should work the other way, too
Sorry I only have Diamond no X1 and couldn't therefore test but as stated above: I got your builds running on my phone. So why shouldn't it work the other way, too, as my builds run also with Haret but with a modified startup.txt (you have to set mtype and ramaddr accordingly toyour device) and needs an EXT2-partition on your sd-card.
I don't want to blow up this thread or make double post. It's just to inform you:
- Running Android without SQUASH / IMAGE files on an ext2 partition
- Porting Roms to our devices
If anyone can test if it works on X1 then I would perhaps buy me one for future works.
Just follow my signature to the other threads and of course visit the Android Stories-Section of my website for detailed howto's.

Debian on CyanogenMod?

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if I can run Debian on my CM. There ist this guide on this BBS, that explains how to run it on JF Mod. So will it only run on JF?
May the force be with you.
I was wondering the same thing. A buddy of mine is going to give me his G1 to play around with since he's gotten a new phone. Id love to run Deb on it, but am unsure. Im not sure exactly what firmware customization JF has done on his. If we could find that out, we may be able to figure out if it'll work for us by comparing it with what has been done with the CM firmware. (His site isnt all that specific as to the details and is obviously not as current as the CM development. JF writeup
Another question would be if we could just add it during the install. Just as how with CM you have to install the android parts that CM cant release... maybe we could add in the JF Rom before CM (but after the android rom) and hope that the parts it needs gets installed but doesn't break CM.
Ive never messed with an Android before, so I'm just guessing here.
EDIT:
After searching... I did find this post. (read the post and the reply)
So maybe its worth the shot to just try it and see what happens (I wont get my G1 till next week, so I cant give you any feedback before that)
Yes, you can get Debian installed on G1.. I have tutorials up on how to install, resize the image and then install a GUI for it... check it out: http://www.myhangoutonline.com/tutorials/g1/install-linux-on-your-g1
It would be absolutely awesome if that would work! I am giving it a try in a few days. Has anyone experience points with the linked method? Not that you are going to brick your beloved G1.
I also found those links on this BBS. I just thought it would be wise to post them here for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=507291

http://www.androidfanatic.com/cms/community-forums.html?func=view&id=1610&catid=9
However almost all links seem to be outdated. They are a few month old what I think is suspicious since debian should attract much more attention. Any theories why there are only a few that are interested?
I just can recommend deb. Its a whole world of software. Probably the best on earth.
yes... the method i have in my tutorial works... I've used debian before on my G1... it will not brick it... it all pretty much runs from your SDCard. If you don't like it, just delete the folder and bam, it's gone...
Follow the tutorial... there are 3... 1 to install linux: http://www.myhangoutonline.com/tutorials/g1/install-linux-on-your-g1
then 2 more... after that one, you'll need to resize your debian image, then you'll need to follow the 3rd tutorial to install a GUI. all 3 are at the site... enjoy it! it's a lil slow, but it works. i would recommend it without the GUI, but you can try both and see which you like better.

NRGZ28 (Energy) ROMS Bug Report

First and foremost, thanks to NRGZ28 for making great ROMs and turning them out as fast as he does. I know I, and everyone else that uses your ROMs, really appreciate your work and realize you don't have to update your ROMs that frequently or even post them for our use.
Because I saw a need for this in his other threads, I'm creating a bug list for NRGZ28's ROMs. This is really for the users as much as NRGZ28, because most of the ROM threads are either kudos or bug reports, with a lot of repeated information. I'm going to do my best to keep things updated here, time willing, in the hopes that it will make troubleshooting easier for all of us, NRGZ28 included.
I think the best way to go about this is to have everyone report their bugs here as a post, I will post them under the specific ROM version, and if the bugs have been duplicated I will mark them as such (so we know they're not caused by the reporter's specific situation).
***READ THIS FIRST***
A. Before posting your bug, read through the bug list to see if your bug is already posted. If it is, please just post the ROM file name (paste from the list in this thread) and radio version (if applicable) you are running so I can mark the bug as duplicated.
B. Try to do your own debugging first! That means please attempt to recreate the bug from a fresh install...do not install anything on the phone, and disable UC etc., before trying to recreate the bug. If the bug depends on a single program, install only that program before attempting to recreate the bug. This is in your best interest as well as ours, because it will help us debug.
C. After doing the above two things and if you can recreate the bug, post your bugs in this format:
1) ROM file name (paste from the list in this thread) and radio version
2) Program/tab window/setting/external program/computer OS version, as applicable
3) Brief description of the error (one or two sentences)
4) Specific steps to duplicate the error, as applicable
D. This thread is only for bug reports. Put all the kudos to NRGZ28 and anything not directly related to a bug report in the main threads for the ROM you have.
E. If someone reports a bug that you know a solution to, please either quote their bug report and reply with the solution, or refer to the specific ROM listing and bug number. That way, it will be easy to link up the solution with the problem.
F. I will do my very best to keep this thread updated in my spare time. I will not be looking at the ROM threads, so don't post a bug report there and expect it to be reflected here. My ability to update the bug lists quickly depends to a great extent on your assistance with the above (A-E) guidelines. Let's hope this takes off and helps everyone.

Kovsky Kernel Development [2.6.27]

Guys,
Seems like there are lots of threads popping up with new 'packages'. I thought we should create a thread solely for the discussion of kernel hacks/patches so that we can separate the two:
For those of you who dont know, http://gitorious.org/linux-on-qualcomm-s-msm/linux-msm-xdadev is the repo were are working on.
Just to clarify, this topic is ONLY for discussion regarding Kernel patches. Thanks to vdelf's headset patch it seems sensible to focus on:
1. Backlight always on problem FIXED 01/05/10 (vdelf)
2. Battery Issue FIXED 11/05/10 (drlucky)
3. Camera
4. USB
5. GPS
Makes sense. Lets add USB to the list. While charging works, data transfer does not. Also USB might allow us to debug kernel/android on the x1 and that is what dev's always dream of
:suggestion: why not add the latest kernel as download in the 1st post if there is progress. So everyone know where to download the latest updates u ppl do

@dexteral,
Anyone can checkout the kernel from the above repo I posted. To do what you require we would need to upload the Kernel everytime someone adds a patch...

Is data transfer even possible in haret? I mean how would system unmount sdcard if it's running from sdcard itself?
not fast data but normal will work
love it

Hi, Lets add fm-radio to the list
Great idea ... otherwise we are creating such a mess with lots of different kernel versions in different threads.
If anyone is interested in compiling the kernel as well as the wifi modules, I have setup a VMWare debian appliance containing all necessary tools and scripts to compile everything. Since this is a few hundes MB, I haven't got a place to upload ... need to check this first. If you are interested, let me know.
@drlucky
Have you had a chance to look at the backlight issue? I am almost out of ideas
Can you post your modifications on the microp-module and what you found out until now?

Just played with the klt-driver a bit. I always get version 0x0000, which on a hero means "bootloader mode". I have tried to migrate the hero code, but with no luck. It seems that the microp-klt needs a "reset", which shoudl be done by using a magical GPIO (on hero: 76), but this doesn't currently work at all. Kernel boots up, but still gets no valuable version number.

CFH [Wildfire] v1.0 - Newb rom

Hi
I had the day off, and decided to have a play with the Kitchen to see what I could come up with. After following the instructions on theunlockr.com I decided to base my rom on the OpenFire v.2.3 rom. Any issues that rom had, mine will have.
I have added a few things and changed a couple of things, but in the end, this is my first rom for a device I do not have myself. I have an HTC Desire, but noticed that the Wildfire isn't getting as much love, hence that choice. I hope to get a better understanding of what it takes to make a proper custom rom at some time in the future.
Removed:
Launcher2
Added:
Launcher Pro
Titanium Backup
Rom Manager
Fancy Widget
From the OpenFire v.2.3 post:
NO HTC APPS DO NOT WORK ON THIS ROM AND I WONT TRY TO PORT THEM (but if you try and suceed please tell me and I will maybe include them!)
This ROM is from the android source there is no HTC apps or extra apps from the start it do come with spareparts and dev tools from android source. At the moment it seems a bit slow I think that is due to animations, animations can be turned of in spareparts or in the settings menu.
Features:
- Froyo aosp 2.2.1
- Root + superuser app
- Busybox
- No htc apps!
- Some google apps
- Multi language
- Darktremor Apps2SD
- Patched market
- Usb & WIFI-thetering
- JIT
- 3 in 1 reboot menu
- It may make your phone explode! (You have been warned)
Bugs / Not working:
- Video recording working (but, bad quality)
- Cant import contacts from SIM ? no read/write acess to SIM ? (can anyone confirm or deny this?)
TODO:
- Get rid of above bugs
- HTC-camera (maybe)
Thanks to:
HCDR.Jacob - for the kernel and vendor
Yopsi - for sharing package with google apps.
danne_jo - for APN stuff, and for hosting to my ROM
Sympnotic - For his patched market app
AnantK123 - For pointing out a fix for the camera app
acavella - For hosting / making a homepage dedicated just for OpenFire
Notes:
NO HTC APPS DO NOT WORK ON THIS ROM AND I WONT TRY TO PORT THEM (but if you try and suceed please tell me and I will maybe include them!)
To get app2sd to work you need an ext partition when you have that you might have todo a full wipe and reflash the ROM to get app2sd to work
When you boot up first time choose "com.android.provision"
Anything you want to know about OpenFire can be found at the OpenFire website.

What did you change? We don't need roms like those. Everyone can customize his installed rom like he wants.
Why don't you stick to a phone you have and help projects that just need help instead of reinventing the wheel over and over again?
no offense, just my personal oppinion

None taken.
I've had my desire for a while, and decided to root it about a month ago. I have now installed a custom rom, and I'm enjoying the fiddling around. I don't have too much knowledge, apart from experiences gained in the last week or so.
I tried talking a colleague into installing a custom rom, but he said there weren't too many for the Wildfire, so I said I'd have a play. I'm treating it as a learning curve, as I've always been interested in programming, but never really had the time. I have created a (very) small program for the Mac, and have written a few batch files but thats as far as I've taken it.
In an afternoon I've set up a Linux VM, installed all the needed software and had a play to see what I can realistically do. I see this as a first step. I'm trying to talk the wife into a Wildfire so I can have one to play with!
If the consensus is I should delete the thread, then so be it.

What is chroot?
A chroot image is like a Virtual Machine where you are running an O.S within an O.S.The point of this is that you have a whole Linux System running on a phone where you can ofcourse access all the utilities available in Linux.and as it runs inside of android you dont need to flash anything and can use both the chrooted O.S and Android together.
Things required:-
1)Terminal
2)Root
3)Sdcard with atleast 2GB of free space

Hi! Have you tried this on stock kernel? I believe stock kernel doesn't have loop devices enabled and MIUI is a rebase of CM? Not sure though that's why I'm asking.

The Miui i used was on Stock Kernel. The Kernel Does Support Loop devices.Miui is a Rebase of CM but the loop functionality is related to Kernel. So,Yes it Works on Stock Kernel on Locked/Unlocked Bootloaders Both as we are not flashing anything.
Anyway Give Ubuntu a go.

Thanks! Just clarifying things out I haven't meddled with stock kernel that much that's why I am asking. Well the kernel sources sony provided has loop devices disabled by default glad that it's enabled on the official precompiled one.
Anyways! Try packing backtrack that should be alot useful than debian w/ lxde or a classic ubuntu image.
I got backtrack to run on Pro sometime ago when I was still using gingerbread.

Hi! seeing that you're a fanatic of these perhaps it would be useful if I give you these.
http://50.56.186.177/filez/
Those are packed and reduced sizes of debian & fedora arm images made to fit for chrooting on mobile devices. I made those for my previous device and is very stable already with 256mb RAM
the debian image is a squeeze version. Plus included is the fix for pulse audio. I'm not sure if it would work out of the box for android but with just a little bit knowledge with basic linux stuffs you could get it running perfectly

THANKS for the link...Meego wont chroot..tried it on the optimus a few months ago and failed..problem with zephyr..will give it a go later.fedora I had as well..but the thing is ...Does anyone except me even use these here????
I do but not that much. Like I said I just only tried backtrack and obviously I use it only when needed
Say do you think it would be possible to include a custom kernel on a chrooted image? It would be cool if we have backtrack here with monitor mode enabled. I think the wlan drivers/hardware of Xperia devices have the capability.
Or also try posting this thread to some other Xperia Sub forums. Arc/Pro users seem to be not very open to these kind of works. They just care on custom ROMs
In short they aren't geeky enough They aren't even that interested in dual booting.

In theory yes its possible.but changes will have to be made to the arm kernel to chroot.when u type uname in terminal the output inside the chroot is different than the android kernel.but I think native booting will be better than chrooting..not being interested is just odd....its so much fun having linux on the go

Actually I know I am going to say something Off-Topic
1) People on XDA are now the people who have got a smartphone just because they can afford one and wanna make their phone look "kewl" than the others with the same device
2) People do dumb things like cross flashing kernels.. They dont even read carefully what the OP says..
3) Running linux on a phone would be the best thing.. specially on an xperia pro where you get a harware keyboard..
I would like all noobs to see this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16682226&postcount=2441
