Unable to download files in Web Browser - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I am having trouble downloading files (not apk files) to my phone through the stock browser on my N1 (Both WiFi and 3G).
The specific files are avi, mpeg etc...
I have tried Download Crutch Lite, Linda file manager and Astro with no luck.
I am currently running Android 2.2
Your help would be appreciated.
Cheers

get astro file manager and enable browser enabler....

Hi,
thanks for the quick reply, I have already tried astro and enabled the download plugin and same goes with the linda file manager...
thanks...

same prob.

Try cyanogen....... :_)

Have you tried using a different browser? eg. Opera, Xscope or Dolphin.

I have the same problems trying to download amr files. I wish the browser would just let us download whatever file we wanted regardless of whether we can open it or not.
/edit Just tried using Opera. It can download my amr files! Too bad neither stock music player nor doubleTwist player can open it.. *sigh*

Froyo does not support apk downloads?

When I try to download an apk from a different website, I get an error saying this file is not supported. Yes I have the non market installation checked.
If the website doesn't send the correct headers with the file them the phone doesn't realise it's an APK. Same happened on 2.1 normally on sites with download redirects.

[Q] EStrongs File Explorer compatibility?

Hello, I read in another thread about how great and ad-free EStrongs File Explorer was compared to Astro. I was wondering if any of you have it on your Aria?
On the list of compatible devices, Aria wasn't listed.... If I were to try it out anyway, which version would I use?
htt p://w ww .brothersoft .com/mobile/es-file-explorer-70957.html (no spaces - I can't post a link)
TIA
i have it on my phone and it works fine.
i have v.1.4.4.1
thanks man, i'll give it a shot
Has anyone turned on the Root Options with this? If so, which ROM did you tell it you were using?
I have it installed and it works great, 10x better than astro. My only grip is that astro had an option to "enable DL from web browser" that allowed me to email .apk files to myself and DL it from GMAIL. Unfortunately ES doesn't ahve that options.
Anyone know of other apps I could use that would do the trick?

[Q] open .html offline content

Hi,
I would like to use a webpage, with embedded videos offline(Camtasia (uses Flash and JavaScript)).
The site also works wonderfully with my i9000 (online). I downloaded the content of this page, now I have a folder with several files (xml; Html; Js; Swf; Flv). When I open the .html-file in that folder with a PC, everything works, the browser opens and like the online version, the same video is also available offline!
Unfortunately, I cannot open it on my i9000! the html file can only be opened with html viewer: then a window opens, that says:
The Camtasia Studio video content presented here requires JavaScript to be enabled and the latest version of Adobe's Flash Player. If you are using a browser with JavaScript disabled please enable it now. Otherwise, please update your version of the free Adobe Flash Player. "
I have also tried the "offline browser" in the download market, with the same result as html viewer.
What can I do? The browser is indeed able to open it, online! (Only how to do that now with the files?)
Using a Samsung Galaxy S i9000 with Froyo (JPO)
Are you not able to navigate with a alternativ browser (e.g. opera mobile) to this file directly?
Just input / in the addressline
But Opera mobile does not play flv i think, so try another...

when i navigate to the .html file via SGS-standard-browser or dolphin browser, this message appears in a small green CAMTASIA STUDIO window: Loading Controls 100%
and nothing happens

I have yet to get a decent quality video ripped from a bluray (1080p) to play smoothly on any CM7-based roms, or even the straight CM7 nightly build with OC added.
I've tried a number of settings, plists and players (including mobo) and they all either skip frames, cause audio sync issues part-way into the movie, or play the movie like it's slightly slowed down. Pretty frustrating.
These same videos play fine on the stock rooted NC though, so it's obviously a CM7/Gingerbread issue still.
Guess I'll just have to wait patiently until the dev's get the video acceleration/audio issues figured out...
Hi glenairlie,
I tried installing Mobo using adb push to system/apps and when I load it it just crashes. Do I need to changer permissions? if you to what? How did you install and get it working

I downloaded the mobo_1.0.129_v7_neon.apk file from the mobo website, copied it to dropbox on my PC, opened the file through dropbox on my NC and installed it that way.
Thanks I forget about drop box. So in my nooking around I used adb to push to to my system/apps directory. I then went into file manager open installed app. for some reason when I open it up it does not regonize any media files mp4 blah blah blah. It is like it doesn't have read access to directory where mp4's are located. I tried to delete app but when I went to settings applications it was not showing up as installed app. I also tried deleting apk file in in file manager and it would not let me.
So How do I delete app that is not showing up in setting applications.
Thanks
Greg

You could try changing permissions with the Fix Permissions in Rom Manager, or you could try adb uninstall mobo_1.0.132_v7_neon.apk (or whatever your apk file is called).
MoboPlayer is epic.

Help w/ downloading files with browser

I download large files often say anywhere from 200mb to 1g. The stock browser will sometimes download the files other times it will save it as a .bin file. I have a Mac computer so downloading these huge files is the only way due to not having mass storage mode. Has anyone found a way around this? A certain browser or configuration? A downloader app? When I had my Ipad2 I used "perfect downloader" to download any file. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Try Byte Tornado from the market.
