An Amatuers Glass Icons - Windows Mobile Themes

Here are a few glass icons for anyone who wants them.
MY RULES!!!!!!!!!
1. Enjoy the icons!
2. refer to rule 1
Note: I cut and paste stuff, mild resizing and colouring. This is not difficult. I'm sure it can be done to a higher standard, with the right motivation.
All pngs were obtained from artists on DeviantART. Nothing is original.
http://browse.deviantart.com/customization/icons/dock/
(you may recognize a lot of these icons from elsewhere......)
IF you are not familiar with the style, around here it is refered to as ANASTASIA by DINIK
He was the first person to find all these great icons and slap them together with the glass effect(also found on DeviantART).

thanks, downloading before they are removed...

You are AWESOME for posting this and starting this thread but I bet you that he-who-must-not-be-named will throw another hissy fit. I will give this a few days before he starts banging on mods' doors to close this thread if he has not done so already. If it does not get closed at all, I will post ALL the hundreds of icons that I made. I promise...and they are quite nice for a newbie PS user (not artist yet).

How did you do that so fast!
I got the original template about 6 weeks ago from the guy on DeviantArt who was using the exact same glass effect as a 150x150 avatar on a site I frequent, and had been doing so for a couple of years.
There was a slight difference in the shadowing and colour effects, but once that was removed, (done for me), it's exactly the same.
Initially, I asked him if I could use it for my avatar which he happily agreed to, but when I realised I know bugger all about PhotoShop (that's how come I had all those tutorial links from the other thread) I came clean and showed him DINIK's excellent collection.
He thought it was brilliant as well. Very well done indeed.......
And now, in 1 hour, you have just allowed me to upload a completely new icon set to my phone.
Thank you.
But I am still gonna call it Anastasia if that's ok with you...... and with DINIK as well - because that's one aspect of his work not in dispute.

He can't claim ownership of all things. The PSD did not come from DINIK.
OF course we all know that these look like Anastasia icons. Not the issue, I have used his inspiration only, none of the graphics are from Dinik's computer. This is absolutely ridiculous and childish.
He did say we could release our own PSD's.

No one is disputing what style this is. I have said many times before, the OP or anyone who shares will not be known for these icons as anyone who sees them will say it is Dinik's when really it is not made by him. BUT the point of the matter is for those of us who began using the ANASTASIA theme have to make our own icons as there had been no addition for quite a while. That is how I began anyway, my template was actually from nniicckkss who was bullied by Dinik when nniicckkss shared the glassy psd template (so actually, I am using his template which he so graciously shared). And to be honest I only learned PS, CFC-GUI, ResHacker, WinCE, etc. when I got this phone last April. But I digresss...I am very much willing to share but because of rules blah blah I can't even post cab or zip files in threads. I actually have to individually email those who requested some of my own version of Anastasia icons but I stopped because that is really a pain to do every single time.
So I will share the icons below once this thread gets traction and not closed by mods due to reasons we already know.

Ahh. the great argument.
The altering of already altered trademarked logos.
OP, They look nice.
good day.

Watch out though, nniicckkss did the same thing early on and his thread was eventually closed by the mods because D won't stop blabbing and throwing hissy fits and threatened to take his work out of XDA. At that time, I have ZERO PS skills and of course that will be a problem for me then if I want uniformity in my phone. But since I now know how to edit manila/dll files, make my own icons, and pretty much google and download for free (or pay a few bucks) really awesome PS effects, I say, go ahead and leave XDA if he makes the same capricious threats and demands. His ego just became so big that he thinks he is the only one who can do quality work when in fact it is so freakin' easy.
EDIT: I have wasted too much time on this. I am going to shut up now and just focus on modding my own phone whether or not the mods will be shared or not.

The original PSD you posted in the first post, is created based off one of Dinik's Icons. It's relatively easy to do... erase the stuff in the middle, blend around it to "complete" the image. Unfortunately for you, vgunmanga, you didn't do it perfectly and you can see that in the image below. ON the left, Dinik's original template.. on the right.. yours.
Anyway, Dinik will be relasing his icon template officially in a new thread created by him. There, you can share icons made in "Anastacia" style, using the official template. I think everyone will be happy with this arrangement. You guys get to do your own icons, dinik gets to back off.

Are these new icons something you guys can use?

New Icons for Androkkid "TransparentFrames" finally!
These new Icons should work better for those of you who have like me found the standard winmo icon ugly and pixelated.
I have always thought that some of the IPhone's attraction was the beautiful icons that were uniform in size and shape. So I made my own for Ifonz (based on other people's graphic work). When Androkkid came along I loved the scenic wallpapers you could use but I thought the beautiful scenery of the wallpapers became too cluttered with the IPhone style icons and that the square icons ruined the effect of the beautiful wallpapers.
So these new icons are designed to preserve a uniform style and at the same time be better integrated into the "scenery" by using transparency.
I hope that some of you will have a look at these and tell me what you think
PS If you resize these, they will not work.
If you want to use these and need other icons, ask me on the themes Thread and I'll see what I can do.
You find these icons here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4829217#post4829217

Dont worry, just fine tune them to perfection. not a lot of people would step up and make an icon pack
good job
I agree, Need some work, but your on a good start man. ;]
I as a designer can understand if you feel bad when people tell you what they have above,
And as a fellow designer, I say you should not stop, keep looking at them, and try some different more round, glossy, vibrant edits. :]
And they will be a Thumbs up!

I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to discourage him. No one replied to his icons (to be honest i thought he just posted them from finding them from somewhere), so I was just giving my honest criticism of the icons only. Personally, I'd touch them up with a gloss background layer or just remove the outside glass square. Good luck!
I don't know if anyone noticed, but he said " found the standard winmo icon ugly and pixelated"

Though my next phone will definitely be an android phone, I do use winmo.
I use an applauncher (Androkkid)which emulates android.(see screenshots) I know this isn't Android but it looks like it so theoretically my icon pack could work for both. I'm not selling anything don't either want any donation or anything so it was just an idea. It would be really helpful if someone could tell me which icons they think work and which don't

if its an eye sore why don't you make your own theme. Respect the work, negativity isn't good for the dev who actually took the time to do this.
It isn't that much of an eye sore. The blue could maybe be toned down a few shades just so it isn't so... I can't think of a word, maybe blinding is a good one.
Also, on the nice side of my post, it looks good, it reminds me a lot of the Bluebird theme I used to have on my iPhone before I switched to Android. Maybe look it up for a little bit of inspiration? I know that it looked AMAZING & it is really similar to this but with the toned down blue & a few undertones of black.
I will try to find an old copy of it & upload so you can see it if you'd like.
EDIT: OK I found a copy. I will upload a few of the icons & a few mods I had made to it to look a little better. I have a killer statusbar that would go good with this as well as a little bit of lockscreen stuff you can adapt to this if you like.
This is a very good start this is how I started making themes, so guys please show this themer some respect. "Experion" is my second theme and i improved a lot so good job man keep it up!
OK here it is. I can give a little rundown too (by folder in the zip).
Battery: Has the lockscreen battery images that would work on the Stericson lockscreen and could be adopted for the statusbar. Also there are 2 images of the statusbar battery.
Icons: Obvious enough. Some icons that show what I mean about a toned down blue & shades of black. Could look really nice on Android.
Statusbar.png: Obvious again. Statusbar that can be easily adopted to Android. It has transparency so on Android it would just appear black so instead of the black to transparent gradient I currently have set up a black to dark gray gradient might appear better.
Lockbar.png: This was the bar of the lockscreen slider on my iPhone. Here it could be the background that the clock is on but I don't remember that may be hardcoded.
Here is the link: Bluebird Android.zip
PS: I don't claim credit for this whole Bluebird theme. I got it off of ModMyI.com from a user whose name I don't remember. I just changed a few icons & the lock bar among a few other small tweaks.
PS PS: Yay! 200th post
in a way
Hey this theme isn't bad, the blue reminds me of alien aqua. More power to you make a theme you like and hopefully not what someone wants you to make. Your taste your enjoyment. If someone doesn't like it, go away...if you can't find you like make your own.
Looks good, I like the color .
Hey don't let people get you down, everyone's new at one point. This is great for a first theme, I never did that much icon theming Some suggestions, try to find a good background that goes with the colors you chose. Also, try to theme the widgets. I know it's hard at first, those .9.png's can be REALLY difficult to deal with. Just keep practicing and always challenging yourself to do more and there's no limit to what you can accomplish!

One line that says it's an eye sore has nothing to do with constructive criticism.
Any theme is taste sensitive so bringing your 'constructive criticism' as facts doesn't help anything either. So please read up on constructive criticism and try again or move on.
What might be easy for you might not be easy for someone else. If it's all that easy why aren't we seeing more themes?
And there's also the time you need to put in to study how to do things and than actually implementing it. This alone should make you show some respect.
I'm sometimes really amazed at the rudeness of some members especially the ones that have been frequenting these forums like you have.
@sassyness77: good to see another theme for MetaMorph.
Just ignore the comments you don't agree with and look at the ones that make sense for you. After all it's your theme and it's impossible to please everyone. Looking forward to see where this is heading and don't let the haters get to you.
I love the white drawer tab!
Yes, the tweeter blue is a bit too bright. escpecially put against darker wallpaper.
thanks guys
Thanks for all the feedback guys, positive or negitive I didn't realize that the blue would be so bright! I'm planning on toning it down and I'm figuring out how to edit p9s as we speak it can only get better!
Updated 12/7
Hey, i just updated it last night if anyone is using my theme, I'll update it soon with edited 9.pngs, high school+work makes that difficult.
i did make a custom boot screen which i love and switched icons, the OP has all the other stuff!
Hia mate,
i agree with people its looking kool,
keep up the good work, i am so lazy when it comes to making icons, i never have any ideas. so its good to see people working on things like.
Keep it up, and do what i do theme for your self and if people like it that's just a plus!

This theme is basic but good, it's what u can expect for a first theme. I'm also doing my first theme for eclair using the cyan blue, i love the color. Good job man, we can only get better and better. Cheers to your efforts, pretty impressive for a H.S student

"upcoming" themes a no no

ATTENTION! There is an increasing trend of people posting "upcoming" themes. Please do not post upcoming themes or themes that are not done. It is polluting the thread. Only post themes that are COMPLETE.
Thank you
i agree and disagree with you and i will list my reasons for each
i agree because it gets peoples hopes up, it gives a larger then life feel to a theme, it leads to "flame wars" between people.
also though, from the themers perspective, it gives an insight at whether or not they should pursue their idea to fruition, or just drop for something else, it does promote the community helping to design it, what people like and dislike, what they would like to see before the themer makes the images and realizes that something else would have been better.
really in the end, it can go either way, but when deciding to make an "upcoming theme" thread, i think the themer should be willing to at least give out a beta version as a temporary hold off or have the theme fairly close to being in the release stages.
like personally, i jump around on projects very often, so if i made a concept thread, i could not touch the theme itself for a week, so i would hold off on a thread until i was ready to release it, but i know people like AGx-07_162 (i mention you a. i really like your work and b. you are a recent example) are usually good about releasing their work soon after the thread is made.
just my thoughts on the subject. i tried to give an unbiased view of both sides of it.

I agree....
As long as the title of the thread states [upcoming theme], what difference does it make? A couple of sneak peek pics of a soon to be released theme, or even a concept that fell out of someones head isn't a bad idea. It gives the user something to look forward to. AND, if the original themer doesn't get around to finishing something, perhaps someone else could pick up where they left off and get the theme running.
No one is forcing you to read the thread. If it says [upcoming theme] in the title, skip it. While your forum name may be cost to be the boss, you aren't. When you start paying the bills to keep this forum open and paying for the bandwidth to support the number of users it carries, then, and only then, can you think you can make rules. Not a week after joining and making 39 posts.

I'll agree with you to a point. I hate the "upcoming theme" idea for the same reason I hate when producers release movie commercials 3-6 months in advance. Its not done for feedback, its done for publicity. This is not general as I cannot speak for the themers, its just the way I see it.
However the above poster makes very good points. It can be good for feedback if that's what the themer is after and not just to stir a buzz.
I guess it can be good for feedback to see what people like. So that is one plus

Precisely. Taste is an individual thing. I am glad that there are previews. Once I see what is cooking I have a choice of not visiting this page again or follow it till it is done. Plus, you need creativity on this forum and creativity needs a constant window.
Besides, I can make a no-no thread about ppl making half page signature. takes a while to scroll, not everyone enjoys your in-ur-face sense of humor and it makes threads twice in page count. But I won't.
I think the best way to avoid all these issues is... Any Dev. that is working on an upcoming theme and would like to share it with the community should take these steps, first contact a Mod before posting anything and let that Mod know that you have an upcoming theme and you would like to post screen-shots with a description of your theme and most importantly if the Mod could be so gracious and lock the thread (temporarily until theme is ready to install) immediately after you post, that way the thread doesn't get cluttered with nonsense, everyone has a glimpse as to what is coming soon and finally if anyone has any feedback or suggestions then we can PM the Dev. here or anywhere the Dev. pleases.
P.S. Obviously if your theme is ready to install and doesn't need a preview then there is no need for these steps...post away.

I don't really agree that preview threads should be outlawed. It get's people excited about themes, that's a good thing.
And I don't mean to jump on the bandwagon, but it is kind of an unwritten rule to not have a gargantuan sig pic on a forum, unless you are a noob of course. Usually a 200x120px banner is more than sufficient.
So wait a minute.. caused i just searched 11 pages to find how many times 'upcoming theme' came up. Twice? Twice??

Need feedback about my first theme

Hi Guys,
I've made my first theme and popped it on the android market, I made the decision to charge £0.99 for it as I believe it to be worth that and I know if I saw it then I would have no qualms with paying this at all, however since releasing it around 10 hours ago, ive only had 3 downloads all of which were cancelled so im trying to work out reasons why. One possible reason I can think is that they are using the Motorola Droid, where most these don't look particularly good because of the resolution, the second is that they just plain didn't like it! I do find this rather odd though as I have included 2 screenshots.
So if here's the androlib link (http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-nd-android-pandatheme-psimpleblack_5896-pExj.aspx) (screens dont do it much justice), I would appreciate any feedback. If anyone wants to download it for real then for today I will refund anyone from XDA developers who purchases it, just PM me your name after you have done so.
Thanks a lot for any help .
Looks pretty good to me, i take it the fuzziness is just in the screenshots? There's certainly A LOT worse on the market that have quite a few downloads, so I think you just have to give it time.
Yeah the fuzzyness is just the screens, thanks for the comment . Feel free to download if you want to take it for a spin and I'll refund your money making it free.
Anyone else got anything to add? getting a lot of views but little in the way of comments .

I would suggest making the notification bar black. The white bar does not look quite right. On the other hand, I only theme AOSP ROMS, so this may not be an option for you.
I want you to know that what follows is constructive criticism in the hopes that it will help you. If I offend I apologize, and give you full permission to tell me to piss off.
When I look at the theme, it looks nice, very clean, all the graphics work, but there is nothing that grabs my attention. It seems very "flat" and I personally would refund and get a theme that would draw me in to the screen. Having said that, I think it is really great work, that with a little bit of effort could really sell. I am sorry to say that I can not tell you what it needs, but I suggest making a few mock ups in gimp (or photoshop) and asking people what they think.
Additionally, the theme looks a lot like an iphone, which may be why I do not care for the look as much another may. The idiots on the market are always looking for iphone this and that, and thus I think it could really sell given time.
Thanks, comments noted, very helpful. The black notification bar isn't an option in this sort of theme but I'll definately be looking into ways of jazzing it up for a version 2.0 .
While I love themes like this, the only issue is that every other app installed will have a regular icon. Which unfortunatly takes away from your great work..
Yeah I recognise this, i was thinking of adding extra ones for the most popular apps (facebook, twidroid etc). Maybe this is something I'll look further in to.

That is exactly what I did. There is no way to legally theme and distribute most market apps, so just make an addition icon pack and let people apply via bettercut.
By the way, I showed this to my wife, whom is a professional graphic designer, and asked her opinion. She suggested it is way too flat, and needs more contrast. I realize that you do not want to add color to accomplish this, as it defies the point of your theme, so she suggested to do away with the symmetry. Stagger some icons, give the homescreen a look that carries the eye of the viewer around it.
Thanks cloverdale, will definately take this into account in my future themes. Currently selling ok on the market place after making a few colour variations .

PROJECT - Talented devs please Read

I want to create a theme, as no one here seems to have the same design sense as me; most are obsessed with trends from 2004 or something, and are fascinated by bright colors and the need for everything to be big and/or cluttered. as a minimalist, i'm basically exactly the opposite. i like clean, concise, small and unobtrusive.
Anyway, if a dalented dev and I could hook up, I could design a very nice looking exterior for Android so long as he could code it all into place. I'd be wanting to skin basically every skinnable object within Android; I want a full UI overhaul. I also want it to be the best looking thing released for the OS.
To give myself a little bit of credibility, here's a mock-up I was messing around with to provide an idea of what I'd be talking about.

is no one replying because it doesn't look good enough, or because no one is interested?
The design is very bland, more work on it would make it look pretty nice. I see you're aiming for a simple look yet, somewhat elegant.
looks very nice and clean but...
notification bar is half the size, dont know if it is possible to edit the size of it.
and it wouldnt be easy to acess the drop down menu.
Same goes to lockscreen,a lot to change...
Perhaps this are the reasons no dev is interested in this, but it is a nice concept...hope you can manage to get it done.

You can change the status bar size from source: frameworks/base/core/res/res/values/dimens.xml and change the status bar dpi from 25 to "x"
that was just a mock-up. everything can/will be changed to meet the dimensions of the elements to the sizes needed for the phone. and yes, it'll looks a lot better after some more time is put into it. i posted just a barebones preview of what i hope to accomplish.
You came in here bashing many talented designers and then post that? Instead of 2004, you're going prior?
Good luck, and I hope your "new" idea (given that there are quite a few minimalist themes) turns out well.
how did i bash anyone? i mean sure my comment was a little snarky, but it wasn't meant to put anyone down.
i don't see how that's prior-2004 either way, though.
Instead of asking for "talented devs" to help you, it might work out better if you spend a little bit of time to get to know the roots of android theming, and hopefully get more going than a few minimalistic mockups. Read a few how-to guides to get things rolling and when you get to troublesome .9's and xml tweaks, that might be a better time to ask for help.
As much as all of us will be really excited to see what you come up with (I mean that seriously), I really think it would be better that you get some experience going on your own first. 'Employing' people to do the dirty work usually means the end result is nothing like what the concepts suggested (I think a lot of us remember a similar situation late last year).
Good luck, have fun. I'm looking forward to the results.

I want to create a theme, as no one here seems to have the same design sense as me; most are obsessed with trends from 2004 or something, and are fascinated by bright colors and the need for everything to be big and/or cluttered.

This is absolutely true, most of the themes would make my phone look like a cheap knockoff. However, I don't find yours the most appealing either. Minimalistic is good, very good, but add some more life to it (again, in a minimalistic and clean way)
It kinda reminds me of this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=662721&highlight=xperia

I do get where you're coming from and a lot of the themes posted aren't to my taste, but your design is weak. If you're going to make something so minimal that it's just a gradient fill and a font, the font needs to be something so special it can carry the whole design, and that really isn't... italics.. seriously..? It looks very dated. I think you've shown a lot of arrogance to come in here disrespecting the work put in by some very talented people, and then put forward your own amateurish design as an example of what they should be doing. You're not going to recruit anyone to help you that way.
Personally, I don't have the time or the motivation to work on full system themes without any kind of reward or pay. This is difficult, time consuming work, as you will soon find out if you make the effort to learn for yourself. I will however be leaning much more towards the minimal style in my future GDE themes, as it's my own personal preference.
Minimal is a very difficult look to pull off in an interface without looking bland, but there are some fine examples around here. Take a look at Elegance for a start. I respect that theme a lot.
Forget changing codes and such, just go to Sweeter Home and build it yourself. There are tons of themes there that look like your example.

Hey man, I just felt like I needed to give you some words of advice from an artistic standpoint.
I don't know your design capabilities, I don't claim this is your best, and I don't claim you are a world renown designer.
But every designer I do know deals with battling what other people say about their work.
We can choose to be offended, or we can choose to take it as a way of improving.
There are two words for this. One is greatly different from the other.
One is Criticism, and the other is constructive criticism.
Some of these posts I have seen are just pure criticism. (Perhaps this is why I see a whole page of posts gone but others I see here are constructively trying to criticize the work so that you may gain humility towards others works, and improve in your own.
This is a true barebone theme my friend, but I see potential in it. It doesn't matter what other's think, it matters what you think. If you ever need some help with this man, feel free to e-mail me. I am no dev, but I am a designer, and I would love to help you in the artistic aspects of this project, so that you can have something to be strongly proud of in the end of this. Let me know what's up. Shoot me a PM.
A loving word from one designer to another,
