[Q] modding APKs and ODEX files

Hi, just have a question regarding modding apks inside /app in odexed roms.
Have read a few threads regarding deodexing and decompiling apks, and just wish to clarify one thing:
For apks which have a corresponding odex file, is it possible to modify them without deodexing the whole rom? Intend to edit some xml files in the Contacts.apk file but wasn't sure of the exact procedure.
Here's what I tried:
1. Used xultimate to deodex
2. Used apktool to decompile apk
3. Edited xml
4. Used apktool to compile
5. Added META-INF and AndroidManifest.xml from original apk using 7zip
6. Deleted Contacts.apk and Contacts.odex
7. Copied Contacts.apk over

I am also interested in the answer ...
I would like to theme some widgets and theme the statusbar on a stock ROM. I am not sure is it possible ? And what is the procedure with the odexed files ?

CM9 Core Apps (for AOSP ROMS, might work on sense)

ok so i extracted some apps from the latest CM9 build for the HTC Sensation, these apps include:
CMWallpapers.apk
DeskClock.apk
Development.apk
LiveWallpapersPicker.apk
Settings.apk
SettingsProvider.apk
SoundRecorder.apk
ThemeChooser.apk
ThemeManager.apk
Trebuchet.apk
Just mover them to system/app
MAKE SURE TO DELETE THESE APPS AFTER MOVING:
com.android.deskclock.apk
com.android.providers.settings.apk
com.android.settings.apk
com.android.wallpaper.livepicker.apk
and maybe com.htc.provider.settings.apk.. i didnt but you can im not sure of the affect though
the apps were tested and installed on virtuous inquisiton 4.0.2.1

[Solved][REQ] FM Radio App for Gingerdx

I Odexed GingerDx v30 and I think it has improved the performance of the Rom a lot but the only problem is the FM app is not working, I tried a lot to fix it but I couldn't
So can anyone suggest me a "NON INTERNET FM RADIO APP(app that doesn't use internet)" free or paid apart from Spirit FM Unlocked cause don't know why but I couldn't get it to work on my x8 running GingerDX v30.

delete the radio apk and odex file extract from rom zip the deodexed radio apk and place it in system
Or
try to install again the rom and odexed again
make sure before odexed to have 40+mb free space in system

Radio.apk can is odexed, for work without FC need the files: com.dsi.antradio_library.jar, com.google.maps.jar and com.sonyericsson.jar in /system/framework is deodexed :good: I realized this when I used to gingerzaraki, and tested in previous gingerdx

[Q] I need Stock deodexed Settings.apk and framework-res.apk [FW .254]

As the title says, i need the stock deodexed settings.apk from /system/app
and framework-res.apk from /system/framework
firmware .254

Deodexed stock music.apk Gts5830i

This music.apk is for those who are having trouble with stock music.apk in twr v9/9.5like status bar music forward/backward buttons & some buttons of music.apk not working ......i knw developers of this rom fix this problem in twr v10...but till that date u can use this apk...
1.Download the below mention music.apk.
2.With the help of rootbrowser go in system/app delete original music.apk.
3.Place this downloaded music.apk there i.e in system/app.
4.Change permission to rw-r--r-- & reboot.
5.Hope u enjoy..

change permission if required if working fine without changing permission...don't change it...
