When is Froyo coming out for Milestone/Droid? - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I already have 2.1 on my milestone, but Froyo looks soooo sweet. I was just wondering when the official one is coming out. (or for Droid)
I read there's an unofficial one, but wi-fi doesn't work.. and I REALLY use wi-fi, so that won't quite do...

There is a very stable Unofficial Froyo build out there for the Droid (don't know what differences there are between the Droid and the Milestone, is one GSM and the other CDMA?). Check out How 2 Droid dot com (no spaces). Bugless Beast v0.2.1 is what i'm running on my phone, and there are very detailed tutorials to get you from 2.1 back to 2.0.1 to 2.2, if you're interested.

WiFi was fixed awhile ago on the Froyo Droid leak...not sure if you can install it on the Milestone though. As for an official release, that depends as much on your carrier as it does on Motorola.

The difference is in fact Milestone is the GSM version of the CDMA Droid. Milestone is found in Canada on Telus and in Europe on verious carriers. Another big difference between the Droid and Milestone is that the Bootloader is signed in the case of the Milestone making flashing of Droid roms impossible as far as I know. Very frustrating to me as a Milestone owner...

probably a while lol, its unstable as hell right now

No issues with stability for me, and I am running one of the first Froyo builds with all the goodies attached (800 mhz clock, apps2sd, launcherpro, animated wallpaper). From my understanding those builds were considered early alpha from 4 month old code. I can only imagine how smooth and fast the current builds are.

I'm running at 800mhz without a single stability issue. There are a few programs that refuse to play nice, but the device itself is quite happy.

Cyanogen Camera?

I remember when Cyanogen mod had this cool custom camera back on cupcake, with zoom. Was awesome! Then, with donut buids it was replaced by a new one, which I do not like so much. I currently use SnapShotPro, which is okay at best. I was wondering if there is a way to get that camera back on there? Thanks

Its the HTC framework, and HTC camera. It hasnt been ported to Donut, as it will most likely be HTC doing it, and they dont exactly have XDA-dev efficiency w/ updates
I second that!!
Bring back the Cyan's Old camera...I could be wrong but with this new Hero 1.6 dump that was made, the camera should be donut ready...keep your fingers crossed..
Twitter @face_melter
Thanks guys, I hope so. Camera Zoom FX is also pretty decent, but that one there was the best. I checked out few Hero builds from xda, few of them are really good but are not as snappy as Cyanogen/other donut builds. Guess you have to pay with performance for the looks/extra functionality.
you'll need to pull the app file for the camera, doubt cyanogen will add it as it's someone's ip like the htc keyboard.
TBH just make a diff update that applies this camera... i hate it becuase it doesnt support half shutter...
+1.. hate the fact i cant zoom on current cm builds
I doubt it. Cyanogen has stated very specifically that he wont be releasing warez or anything 'ripped' out of other builds, to keep things legal and not shady. Sorry guys, but on Cyan's builds, HTC apps are gone as is the framework, not including the HTC_IME.

same problem for me
I have it installed (using King's Legend 1.0), but it's not doing anything. I open the app, it shows a big button that says "Launch", I click it, and then I get a black screen (top bar is still there)
This is an EARLY beta of Fennec and it was designed for the Droid/Nexus. Chances are, it isnt gonna work right with the G1.

Please note that I said it is an EARLY BETA. Actually, it's the FIRST BETA. It's going to have problems on any device, much less a device it wasnt designed to support, like the G1.
the guy said it requires android 2.0 or higher.
As I read things, it is actually an UNOFFICIAL beta built from the dev repos.
The official betas will be distributed from mozilla's website, just as the n900 betas are.
Its also a ~40mb app. My thoughts are its running itself virtually for now. But that could be one stupid theory...
The alpha is out for Android 2.0 users. Only 10M this time

steel droid 3?
Yes I think he means Steel Droid 3... Also, just to make sure, you DO have an XT862 right? I've heard the Steel Droid ROM will screw up an XT860. Just being thorough.

How do you guys SD compare to Liberty? I actually think it does better.

Ive never tried SD but both Monster and Liberty worked well for me.

This is very light use (some texts/tweets/angry birds/randomness) but still it shows theres no real standyby leak on Liberty, and ive seen similar performance on Monster.
All goes to show that at this point all the major ones are basically the same. You'll even see decent battery life from the stock ROM (5.6.890 update) once debloated.
Thanks for mentioning that, Savior057. I busted my XT860 by trying to flash Steel Droid. If your phone is an XT860, there are no ROMS available yet (except the Stock Chinese ROM (SBF/XML that can be flashed via Fastboot) - but I wouldn't flash that unless you absolutely had to! There is no stock Bell XT860 SBF/XML flash available yet).

I tried both SD and Liberty. This is the result of my experiment.
I tried SD 3 first. It had a very good battery life. Then I tried Liberty Gold. It was not good so went back to SD 3. Now, a couple of days ago, I flashed Liberty 1.2. the battery life is much better than SD 3. 24 hours after charging, I still have 60% left with moderate usage.
I hope this helps.
P.s: I also tried Monster 12. I was not impressed.

Rumors leeks and all that jazz, all over again...

Android ICS Update to be available for LG Optimus Black, 2x, Lucid, Lte, 3D, PRADA, vu, Nitro HD, Spectrum in October

October.........2014
If it's any later than October 19th, I think LG may have won the record for taking a year to get an update from it's announcement to its actual release. That's insane

all I can say is that the update better be good with 3.0 kernel and less bugs if they have taken so much time

And as said before: there isnt that big difference between 2.6.39.xx and 3.0 as one might think... Its not like android 1.x versus 2.x more like android 2.3.4 to 2.3.5. Guess if you dont know this you wont see the change

[REAL FEEL] Fastest ROM out there?

Hey guys.
I'm always curious what's the fastest ROM out there.
I don't want to see benchmarks, just the "REAL EVERYDAY FEEL" of the ROM counts.
At the moment I'm switching between RasSaber, SaberMod and the AOKP PUB builds by Whitehawkx, bigxie or kecinzer.
Most of the time I pair it with the latest franco nightly.
Since I tasted the smoothness of these various set-ups, I'm always coming back since PA for example is just quiet a bit slower.
So enough said. Can someone point to a faster set-up in comparision to the above mentioned??
Greetz.

Threads like this are pointless.
Try them all out everyone has different opinion. Please don't make threads like this
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I know that there's nothing like the "best" ROM, but there was huge progress in performance with the new gcc toolchains. Just wanted to know if there were other ROMs as fast. With the actual population of ROMs I cannot try them all
theres no right answer for real feel, as real feel will be different for everyone, and every setup. there isnt a way to measure real feel.

In developer options change everything from 1.0 to 0.5, get Nova Launcher, choose in settings Super Fast for animations and evrey rom will fly for you
These threads just turn into people posting the ROM theyre currently on. Just try them all until you find one that you think is fast, There Is No Other Way™
