Since there isn't a Q&A section for the Droid - ROMS? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

I take it the Droid suffers from the same "signed bootloader" that the Milestone does?

Nope. That's one reason people are so upset about the Milestone situation—Motorola released the Droid with an unlocked bootloader, then turned around and locked things down on the Milestone.

Then why aren't there any ROMs in here? I see reference to roms like Bugless Beast but this development area is rather empty.

Mostly because the Droid/Milestone section here is brand new (2-3 weeks old), and most developers had found a "home" forum long before XDA added a Motorola section. A lot of people still don't even know there's a Droid section here.
You can get more info on Droid ROMs at places like Android Forums, Droid Forums, and AllDroid, where most devs have set up shop.

I used to come here all the time when I had a G1. I upgraded to a Droid and was disappointed that I couldn't come here for all the latest droid info. I just today figured I would come back and see if Froyo was up for the G1. HOLY COW there is a Droid forum on XDA!!! I can't believe I didn't hear about this earlier from one of the many android sites I visit.

I completely agree! This forum was INVALUABLE to me when I was using a G1 or my 32a Magic, but when I got the droid I had to suck it up and find other places to go.
Truth be told, there's a lot of immatureity in newer forums, but they got the job done.
Hopefully, some of the info will dribble back here, for everyone's sake, but wish me luck, I'm about to test out a generic froyo build for droid. Here's hoping it works!

Droid Forum Support...

This may not be the right topic to post in.. however, I was looking through all of XDA and I didn't see a list / sub category for the Motorola Droid (its not the Eris version)
Does anyone know of a forum that is heavily used as this one is?
My girlfriend picked one up so I'm trying to help her tweak it and root.
Not many forums out there that are heavily based on droid alone(of my intelligence of course)... Try this guide http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f60/root-your-droid-32749/#post299661 btw giving a non-tech savvy person root, not a good idea .

Alldroid is a pretty good spot for Moto Droid.

Cliq?

Can Cliq questions, themes & Dev stuff be posted in this area too? That would be awesome. Thanks
Don't know anything about the Cliq or Backflip, or Motoroi. But maybe we can get this section expanded to multiple Moto devices eventually. I asked for this board because there is alot of Moto Droid info available, but little is available on XDA. I found I wasn't the only one asking. I'd like to see all decent handsets get full lifecycle from cross-platform cooperation.
That would be awesome,i hope more dev stuff happens for the Cliq, its a good phone, but it seems like the bastard step child of moto. My thought is,the rooting and dev stuff started here at XDA,if we can get some devs working on at least maybe a couple of ports from the G1 that would be more than where we are now.

New to DX? LOOK HERE FIRST / Help Build DX WIKI Together

EDIT: 09/09/2010
The Wiki is comming along nicely, a thank you is in order to everyone who contributed. Of course it can always be improved, as such I am keeping the original post below. While we still don't have a great following for the DX on XDA we at least have a nice and organized page in which you can find links to the major breakthroughs and how-to's. If you are new to the DX and are looking for a place to begin, thanks to the fine people on this forum the XDA Droid X WIKI (Found Here) is a great place to begin
As new things are discovered for the Droid X we encourage you to add them to the Droid X WIKI, it can always be removed later if need be. It is a great start however. Thank You all, and good work.
From Sleuth255: Just a quick (slightly off topic) note to also say that XDA mods are here to help. The basis of XDA-developers is after all, development, and it is within device specific development forums such as this that all the magic happens. So here is my promise to all Droid X/Android XDA developers using the facilities of this forum: If you need help keeping a development thread "on topic", PM me and I'll place XDA's cosmic moderating powers at your disposal. Obviously, there's give and take here; we're a community based on idea sharing after all, but the point remains: Let's work together to make the Dx something truly amazing.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have more reading to do so I can further acquire "mad Dx/Android skills" without having to resort to noob tactics.
Original Post:
So I have just come from my Droid Incredible... Yesterday as a matter of fact... And could not help but notice the complete lack of organization of all significant breakthroughs for the Droid X. As well as a lack of anything at all in the WIKI.
It actual made me miss the XDA Droid Incredible forum, which was a joke in comparison to the XDA Droid (original) forum... Point being it doesn't say a lot for our Droid X Forum...
SO! I figured I would put out a request to get this forum a bit more organized, even if that means doing so through the XDA Droid X wiki. At least here we can place links to the most significant breakthroughs, etc. I will start working on it myself as soon as I locate some of the more important breakthroughs, such as root, bootloader, Froyo upgrade and downgrade, and any others.
Find the Droid X WIKI Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:Motorola_Droid_X.png
I invite everyone to help, after all not everyone was reading the forum from the start, and just for kicks some time, try searching "root" on any of these forums, you might as well just start scrolling through the pages without searching, because you'll get about the same number of results...
EDIT: So I have decided it is not the lack of effort for this forum as much as the number of occupants. Even the Droid Incredible Development forum (which is considered to be a phone lacking development backing) is being viewed by around 200 people at the moment of writing this. Ours (DX Development) currently only has 20 occupants... I have yet to see a phone in which XDA was not the main forum used for communication, perhaps this is the first?...

You are correct.. I am sad as well coming from the HTC touch where the XDA following was huge...
There isn't so much love for the X here on XDA and you are not alone in hoping it changes!
I'll help out when I get back in town tonight. This place is not user friendly.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
**EDIT** - I just updated it with some standard info... more will come soon.
BUMP!!!
This thread needs to be stickied!!!
Yeah I agree... Seems like a popular enough phone, apparently not with the devs though. So, I have decided to go ahead and start building my own rom. My first theme is almost done too...
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Ill give a helping hand...
I agree, with everyone who has posted so far. I'm bummed that there aren't people flooding these X forums... I'm not great at development or anything, but have done a decent amount of information compiling for the Wiki at the server lab I manage, and would be willing to help contribute in any way I can!
Agreed.
I usually lurk around in XDA, but it is the first place I check out DX info.
I'll help with whatever I can.
NOOB would love to help
Although I am not new to XDA forums, ( I owe my sanity to you guys for getting me through some of the hairy spots in the WinMo days), I am totally new to Android. I started with the HTC Aria, then got tired of AT&T's BS, so I went to Verizon (where I now have 3G in my home!!). I started there with the Droid 2 but I wanted a better screen and the extra memory so I just picked up my Droid X (after waiting 3 weeks) today. I'm excited, but I know that there are deficiencies - such as no update yet for the DX.
I don't know what I can do to help, but I've always learned that the best way to get acquainted with something is to sometimes just dive in with both feet. I'm just a lowly System Admin Manager for an IT company. DROID X excites me and we truly do need to bring in whatever is needed to get our membership to a level that's worthy of Moto's 'flagship' phone.
Just let me know what I can do to help and I'm there - as I said, I owe you guys big time.
Maraming salamat (many thanks),
Miguel
Now that this is stickied... you should change the title and first post to something along the lines of: "Look Here First" "New to the Droid X" "Noob ALERT!!"
Lol, ok.. maybe not the last one but something similar. Then edit the first post to something explaining the wiki or just the link.
It will help out on confusion in the threads and open ppl eyes to things that are going on and getting lost in the shuffle.
The biggest issue I have seen, is that XDA is an HTC forum, and the Devs dont mess with the Motorolla devices. Other forums have devs that work on the DX and that is where the traffic is. P3Droid, Koush and Birdman have completed the most significant breakthroughs, and they are not a part of this forum. I wish this place had more of a DX following too...for now, I stick with MDW.
Well I just recieved my DX yesterday. Thanks to this great wiki and the people behind it, I was able to root and do some modifying with in the first hour of having my phone, and I didn't have to tear through the forums. Thanks for all of the effort and keep up the good work.

I like MDW alot as well, man, but I DO notice that a good number of posts there will link back to something here in the DX forum on XDA. So, it seems that the higher ups at MDW do at least lurk or contribute here as well.

nice!
after 2 months, I still want to keep my 2.1 OS (in case I want to start some coding on it & 2.1 is a safe version to test on). But I will definitely upgrade to official 2.2 OTA.
btw, is there a list of reasons in the wiki to root & upgrade to 2.2?
Hi! Thanks for getting this wiki and DX forum organized, CaptainTaco and all! I'm relatively new to Android, the DX, and rooting, and all that entails, and was looking for a place to start... and here I am! Have been hearing about XDA for a while, and look forward to learning and contributing as I can!

Welcome aboard. Just make sure you read everything you can before asking a question. I usually ask Google first before I post in a thread. You can also use the hand search feature at the top of the forum.
I say this cause ppl can get pretty heated for threads started asking questions or posting information that has already been answered or giving.
You can always pm me or hit me up on gtalk. A lot of ppl do and I enjoy turning the light bulb on for ppl lol
I've been lurking since I got my new phone, glad to be here. I'm rooted on 2.2 OTA and have learned some about the signed boot loader and latest updates via lurking and searching different forums each day. The wiki looks very complete as far as I can tell, great job!
Thanks for all the work on the Wiki. Great stuff!
I'm coming up to speed on Android/DX now. Very cool platform. I'll be helping more/developing for the Dx soon.
I may not post here much but I try to pay attention and read as often as I can.
P3droid is also a member here as jimmydafish.
Motorola devices will always be second class citizens on this forum...just the way it is.

Droid 4 forum?

going to pick one up here soon, and i was wondering if there would be a forum for it soon

Just do a search for "Is it rooted yet?" and "Will our bootloader ever be unlocked???" and it should take you right to the forum.
I just picked one up.
I really don't feel at home here in "General Discussion" begging for root access, and thus strongly support the creation of a forum as well. I need to be amongst my people, so that we can all be upset together about not having root access to our day old phones yet. I really need an avenue to start a new thread with a title like "How long do you think it will take?" or "Why don't 2.3.5 exploits work on 2.3.6?"
In the meantime, I think I'm going to duct tape this thing to the back of my Galaxy Nexus and create the ultimate QWERTY slider phone.
(In all seriousness, +1 on a Droid4 forum )
You know there's going to be one eventually, just be patient.
Going from the original droid to this is incredible. Well worth the wait!! Completely different phone and I love it! Eagerly awaiting a nice present in the form of a Droid 4 forum
In the meanwhile, you could go to droidforums
.
I was wondering if you mind to search before posting.....

[Q] Shouldn't the Razr i have it's own forum?

This is it. Given that both devices are internally differnet, no rom or custom development would ever work on both and there's not even carrier compatibility. Given that devices like the SGS III has different forums for carriers, I believe that the Razr i should at least have it's own forum. What do you think?
Like I said in another thread, I agree. I'd like to see this happen.

Agree. Own forum or at least a sub forum here.
-Sent from my Razr i on AT&T.-
Agreed. The processor is really different from the Razr M so the I should have it's own subforum.
Gets my vote too. Had my Razr i since mid week and I'm really liking it. What I really like is I never lose signal compared to my previous HTC One phones. Battery life rocks too. Great phone but it needs its own forum. We'll still visit the M forum
Sent from my XT890 using xda premium
Yep,
Another subforum would make sense like good old days of G3/G4 wizards (anyone remember these?)
It definatly need its own subforum for development, accesories not so much. they are different models but only in the inside.
It just baffles me that the the galaxy s3 gets full forums just for different carriers and yet the razr i still hasn't gotten a forum. It is a released phone after all, and I'm pretty sure it'll become available in non-LTE markets like South America and many contries accross europe.
Any reason it's not showing up in the Find Your Device search thing?
Yes!
I agree. I'd like to see this happen
