Goodbye but not farewell - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

The touch screen of my Kaiser died and I've been using it like a Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard device for months, with the stock HTC Hong Kong ROM. All the custom ROMs I could find could not skip the screen calibration screen.
Recently I bought a Toshiba TG01 and now I'm busy exploring and playing with all the WVGA apps and games I've been missing out. It's an underrated device because of Toshiba's crappy ROMs and the previous lack of custom ROMs. I feel I should contribute to the Windows Mobile scene by learning how to cook ROMs and cook some nice ROMs for TG01. And maybe try to port Android to it (I found a success story of porting Android to Asus P535 with complete instructions for Android-porting newbies)
One day when I fix my Kaiser, I'll be back and cook some ROMs for it too. And maybe I'll physically mod it to look like a more modern device
Thanks to everyone who helped me out when I had problems with my Kaiser, and all the cooks still keeping Kaiser alive

Diamond speed...any complaints?

Hi all,
I am seriously considering getting one of these after they showed up in a shop here last week. I spent about ten minutes playing with it and was mightily impressed with the TF3D interace and the accelerometer ball game had me grinning like a schoolboy (haptic feedback kicks butt). One thing I noticed is that the main UI seemd to run pretty slow. It took about a second before the screen would slide to a new page when using gestures, is that normal? I suspect that it is probably a problem with the crummy ROM they had (the Chinese ROM's they put on HTC phones here are worthless, the Hermes was unuseable out of the box, which is is what lead me to find the gold-mine of geniuses here on XDA).
Anyway, to make a long post short, does anyone have any issues wtih speed on thier diamond? Anyone using anything other than a stock ROM at the moment? Thanks!
After having played with TF3D a bit (didn't care much for it), I personally use a "Clean" ROM from Panosha or bElite (plain WM61, without TF3D) and it runs very fast and has 70MB free with SBP Mobile Shell.
My diamond doesn't seem any faster than my old artemis. I've disabled touchflo 3D and it's still just as sluggish as any other slower CPU phone.

Have You changed your ROM, or is it the stock ROM?
currently using a cooked rom from the Dutty and Tom Project team diamond V2. With the TF3D in that is very fast, but that is due to the loss of some animation. such as side to side sweeping,
but that is something which i can live with.

I am still with Hermes, but couple of weeks ago went with a friend to get for him Diamond (from ZGC )
This gave me the opportunity to play with original (English) Rom and Chinese one too. Diamond experience ~4+ hours
(1) I felt the same :
(2/3) No, it is not a problem of the "crummy ROM". Diamond performs very slow compared to my Hermes (customized ROM + modifications). My friend runs origianl ROM and is very jealeous about the responsivness and speed of old TyTN
(3) Yes, after I got the TyTN that was the reason to find XDA-Devs too
- My feeling is the interface on Diamond is tooo heavy, which causes raely slow performance. For me personally this device makes sense after getting some clean rom on it. Well, in case getting the device more on "cool factor" side, I think it is coool - but for working device I still preffer what I have now
(perosnaly prefer to wait for Raphael and X1, and then will make my mind about changing device)
As stated, Dutty's ROM shows significant improvements to the performance/speed/stability/touch-sensitivity of the Diamond. I had quite a few complaints myself, about the poor performance of the Diamond as it was OOTB - but I knew that there most likely would be when I bought the phone.. however, i ALSO knew that there were chefs and cooks in these forums who always impress us with their mad-ass skills in creating the best ROMs in terms of performance 'n prettiness. All hail the Diamond chefs and cooks! You've seriously gotten me falling in love with my Diamond even more.
it Flies

I am also using the Panosha Clean ROM and Mobile Shell 2.1 and the phone absolutely flies, it leaves my Cruise for dead. For me this is the fastest Wm6 phone I have ever owned and I have owned a heap of them.
THanks to everyone for all the responses, it's interesting that the TF3D seems to cause performance issues for a lot of people. That also dissapoints me a but as I was thinking of holding out for the touch-pro, but by checking pdadb.net I see that they will have the same processor so can probably expect similar performance issues....is that correct?
Also, I wasn't knocking all Chinese ROM's, there are some awesome ones out there and I have used several for my hermes, I was knocking the crummy ones the guy at my local shop seems to dig up.
Anyway I guess the thing to do is wait for the deelopers here to come up with a fast ROM for these devices that doesn't sacrifice TF3D. I am sure they will figure it out and I wil absolutely DONATE, as should everyone who keeps a ROM on thier phone for more than a few days. THe fact is that our devices would suck without the work of people in the community and we should give something back to those who put down hard-earned money to be the first to buy these phones and then spend the time to make them work for the rest of us. Just my 2 cents....

Are People Giving Up On The X1?

As of late, 'our' part of the forum is seeing less frequent updates. Modders seem to leave for newer phones and the various ROMs that are being updated are becoming a minority.
So, are you still sticking with the X1 or are you thinking of getting the X2 or any other next-gen phone?
I am sticking with my X1 for now. Can't afford an X2 or X10 yet Maybe I'll change it in 4-5 years Just hope the chefs and cook keep coming out with better and better ROMs.
You cannot predict that kind of things anyway
Seeing as i cant get the X2 anywhere on contract and it isnt going to be much better than the x1 i am going to get the HD2 - its looks amazing!
I'm sticking with x1 for now too. But I am also very eager to get the Nexus One in my hands... as it already has a large and fast growing support on this very forum.

X1 for now definitely.
A great device.
X2 soon probably.
Happy with X1
I'm happy (and stuck on contract still for quite a while) with X1
It's a great hardware form factor if you want a hardware keyboard in a 'normal' sized phone, okay HD2 is definitely the lead 'sexy' device at the moment but it's too big and doesn't have a hardware keyboard.
To me there still seems to be a lot of ROM activity going on (more choice than I can handle) and the fact that latest Sense 2.5 has now been enhanced on this forum to run in landscape means that phones like the X1 are actually getting better again with later ROMs whereas before that it made sense to stay on Manilla 2.1 to have landscape support.
I'm just hoping that the cooks and the community get to the bottom of this Standby of Death problem that seems to be affecting many people on our X1 with WM6.5 + Manilla 2.5 builds as shiny software is nice, but unreliable is not something I can accept in my phone
People knock WM6.5's progress, but try the latest WM6.5.3 ROMs with buttons all along the bottom, Manilla 2.5 and finger friendly menus and icons everywhere and WM6.1 feels a huge step back!
Overall I'm very disappointed that Sony dropped the X1 with no official WM6.5 support after boasting that we were premium customers and would be supported as such...you bet I am!
However the ROM forum for X1 is still buzzing and making major changes so I'm very happy and see a bright future for the X1 still.
Thanks XDA Developers!
X10 or Nexus one
Just waiting for next month for MWC2010 for see all the goodies if nothing interesting then X10 or Nexus one
cheers
XT701 - if I can make it to China soon!
But realistically, I'll probably stick to X1 for a good few years because I don't even see anything on the horizon that fits my wants. Maybe WM 7 will come with some sweet new phones? If the XT701 comes to America I might get it when it hits despite the lack of a hardware keyboard.
I only just got my X1!
I went over to the HD2 camp. Still visit xperia forums occasionally as it now is my "play with roms" phone.
I'm still definately staying on the x1 ..... I've been a big harvester in times when the x1 scene was crowded and up-to-date....lately I have learned cooking and am trying to create ma own stuff.....now i'm under exams but i'll defo try to offer gd stuff for x1 users for at least an year or so....so yes I'm here to stay and to COOK !!

Me too, still have 20+ months contract more... loving X1 at least it is better than some normal phones that does not have qwerty keypad, I chose this phone because of its accessibility on qwerty keyboard and it looks nice
I have only my X1 at the minute. Contract is due for an upgrade in June, so considering the X10. I don't think that the X2 is worth upgrading too as many people have said that anything available on the X2 also works on the X1 (within reason...)
Love my wee X1 (beats the pants of my co-workers' Blackberrys! )
well... as some of You know allready - I gave up. the _only_ thing worse in hd2 over x1 is battery life. other than that - couldn't been happier... for now.
btw: no x2 in voda uk http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=11973 boo hoo we shall be so sad now I guess...
I think there will be ROM development for the X1 for quite a while. I had a Prophet before the X1, and there was a lot of activity on that forum 2 years after I got mine, and a good 18 months after it was non-current.
I think ROM development is the leading indicator to watch. I haven't looked at stats between different forums, but subjectively based on current activity I think we'll have ROMs for a while .
From a hardware perspective, the X1 is pretty good (prepare to be flamed). OK it's not leading edge any more, no accelerometer, video issues etc, but in terms of the processor and onboard RAM it's going to be OK.
Would I like the latest phone? Of course, but running a custom ROM which is fast & stable, I don't have a lot of motivation to change.
So I'm staying
I'll be staying
I've had this phone for 3 months and now i've only discovered the SE support issue. I wish i knew it when i brought it but i love the x1 in all its faults. What else could i buy, i didn't like much and it needed to be professional?! I hope development continues. I don't expect WM7 to be ported but that would be great.. I'm sure the phone wouldn't be able to run it on its specs.
Regardless I'll start a new thread and see what you guys are using your phones for and how you sync, i'm after ideas - this is my first smartphone.
I've had my X1 since a few weeks after it's release. I love it, but was dissatisfied that the software felt "unfinished" when SE released it. I now have the latest Christian Clean ROM installed and am pretty satisfied. I'll stick with the X1 until a truly kick-ass phone comes along:
My kick-ass phone:
1) "Zune HD phone"
2) iPhone responsiveness or better. I want absolutely no pauses and lags when I am operating the phone. This pisses me off most about WM. A faster CPU alone won't solve this!
3) Comprehensive speech-to-text (especially in SMS'ing and email)
4) INSTANT task switching when multi-tasking.
5) Hardware keyboard
6) Built-in comprehensive voice navigation so third-party developers can take advantage of it (not an add-on app like Voice Command).
7) Media download service ala iTunes (In other words, Zune integration)
8) Tegra, Snapdragon, nVidia or whatever CPU
9) Heavy-duty construction like X1 or original iPhone.
I probably won't buy another SE phone though. After the X1, it seems SE started going downhill and are showing no signs of improvement (X2 and X10 for example). I will probably get something HTC (an HD2 with keyboard that works with U.S. AT&T would be nice), unless Apple releases an iPhone with keyboard, multitasking and WVGA screen
X1 now but wait for X10 when is out....
I am waiting for a high end Android device with AT&T 3G support to come out. My X1 is so frustrating. My battery drains to about 40% then just dies like the battery is empty.

A Request...I'd be willing to donate (within reason)

Hi all,
I know we've got some great cooks here, and so I'm hoping one of them will help! I have been playing with ROMs since I got my Tilt2 (ATT) and I have been pretty happy with some of them, yet still not quite completely satisfied. Some come close to what I want, but all seem somewhat finicky with my ATT phone (my wife has refused to let me play with her Verizon Touch Pro 2, something about me breaking it
For me, the holy grail of ROMs for this phone would be:
A fast, Manila 2.5+, Windows 6.5 (or 6.5.3, if its rock solid) ROM with no frills or cooked in software.
A simple user interface, something normal but snazzy looking. If it could be like the original Verizon one that'd be awesome, if not the normal HTC would be fine.
Basically, I want a stripped down speedy version of the normal HTC look, but haven't been able to find it. I MIGHT be able to learn how to cook my own, but cannot currently spare the time as I'm in grad school.
If anyone could help, that would be AWESOME!
if u dontmind trying... try DA_G rom... its built for AT&T so your keyboard will work just fine its 28206 built and lite... alot of rom and ram space... no manila 2.5 so i was using SPB mobile Shell Pro...

windows 6.5 rom ported to Liquid ????

as the title says...can it be done, hardware is very similar to other wm6.5 handsets out there so isnt it possible to upload their roms to this phone???
would it be possible in the future, as would help me choose the liquid to buy right now over the HD2.
thank you
if you want winmo why not getting a neotouch s200? is almost the same as liquid but winmo
want capacitive touch screen and multitouch.
the resistive touchscreen on the s200 looks laggy to say the least, nothing to do with the processor.
As far as I know Windows Mobile 6.x only supports resistive touch screens
even if it did support capacitive, all those Windows mobile menus and items are so small they are not finger friendly, you would have a horrible time merely navigating through the OS
why do you want to use windows mobile?
I've used windows mobile 5.0 then that old phone died and I bought a new phone with windows mobile 6.1. At the same time I was handed a HTC Dream (The G1, first android) for my thesis project, and I was playing around with that. Instantly the android made Windows Mobile seem slow, ugly and horrible to use.
The WinMo had a slide open keyboard. It literally took about 30 seconds - 1 minute for all the UI to change from portrait mode to landscape, horribly slow.
Which is why I bought my own G1, and now a happy owner of an Acer Liquid
im guessing you have tried the HTC HD2 yet, its UI is amazing.
considering the liquids hardware isnt too different, wouldnt it be possible.
old winmo phone were crap, the new HD2 with new UI is amazing. trust me
i think no one has tried with success to port winmo to an android phone.. so far, i dont think there's many trying...winmo 6.x is dead now, 7 series is coming
Not gonna happen, one reason is that WinMo is closed-Source and then there would be no drivers available but Android uses proprietary drivers instead.
Uff xD it's really impossible...

Moving from Android Dream to Xperia X1 questions and comments

So I was a die hard Windows Mobil fan with my HTC Hermes, then decided to try Android with a rogers Dream. I came to the conclusion after a few months I hated Android I found my self routinely pulling my Sim card from my new Dream and putting it back into my Hermes. Finally I decided enough was enough and I called my Carrier to jump ship back to Windows Mobil, the best option they had was the Xperia, so here I am.
Being gone for nearly a 9 months I can already see a lot has changed, I have not even gotten the phone yet, should be here by Friday, (Feb 19th)
I am going to start digging through the FAQ's and searching threads, to see if I can find the info I need, but wanted to drop a Hello on here first.
1st up Unlocking to flash Roms, then start finding out who has the best Roms and if 6.5 is a good option or not.
There was an odd note on the phone listing on Rogers site, they said it could optionally be ordered with Android 2.0 anyone else heard of that?
P.S. I can offer free mirroring/hosting for established developers and there associated Roms. I have a private high speed sever.
I'd say if you find a good rom 6.5 and even 6.5.x roms are stable. NRG, Agent_47 are good places to start if you want HTC sense....if you want clean winmo christan, willyyung, jack, itje are good...I havn't used many others but there are alot out there!
stick with 6.1 if you want the best bat life possible + stability but I couldnt stand going back to it after being on 6.5.x for so long...
