Isn' t this a Dev section in a Dev forum ? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

Well yea nugh said .

Yup. It would appear that there are either a) no dev's in this section of the forum, or b) everyone is lazy and just wants to wait for someone else to do everything for them. lmao.

hey there glad to see one sharing my opinion , at least there should be a mod moving all the really useless stuff from here to the other section .. oh wait a minute thatbe 99% of the threads in here

with u buddy gunna request a Dev so much work is to be done.milestone/droid is an awesome peice of hardware infact it beats most of the new phones arm chip cmon where the Devs @ ?

To be fair, it is quite silly that Milestone & Droid have a joint General section. A lot of questions have answers specific to one or the other. So all my Milestone specific qs go here since it is the only Milestone-only subforum.

Christ almighty, what's the point of 'requesting' devs to do anything with this device when we already know it's not possible to do anything with it? What, you think just because they created a sub-forum for the Milestone on XDA suddenly everything would come up roses?

well if no one tries how will we make progress?there must be a way to bypass bootloader we must try.if devs never tried then none of us would ever have root so stop with the dumb remarks

the point of this thread is not to request dev to do soemthing , witch obviously they are busy doing/trying otherwise this section wouldnt exist ...
the point of this thread was merely an attempt at keeping this section clean of 'froyo is coming in july ' or how do I rooot on 2.1 type of questions you get the drift ...

In which case there needs to be a distinct Motorola Milestone General forum. I don't want to ask that question in "Droid and Milestone General" and get responses from Droid users. Until then, this is the go-to place for Milestone-only questions.

Well yea exactly my point , not to start the argument with you about it , obviously this will become something else then a Dev section and it will 'soon-become' the not go-to for the Dev because it will be a mess .
I know for my part they are forums I go daily for news , and eventho this was one of them this current setion will soon become one to avoid.

[Q] [MOD] OVERCLOCKING to 825mhz !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djmwYSVxpQA
I read that the HTC Hero & Tmobile G1 all have the same processor. So why can we not overclock it like this?
I didnt think it could go that high at all
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
first off..youve been here for a few months now so you should know and post this in the right section(Q&A)!!!! seeing as you actually checked the box to show this was a question just shows that you didnt read the rules or even care about the STICKY telling to post in the right area.
Second..why not just be happy with 768? i dont think its possible atleast as we speak unless someone comes up with a kernel that allows it. I mean some hero's bootloop at 768 so what would make you think its possible at 825?

wow..it just shows how much you guys actually read the rules also. this is a quote directly from it.
"So remember… before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can’t answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?"
plus questions about development go in either the rom thread, General, or Q&A.
Preach it, brother!

I second this. I HATE having to scroll through pages of useless threads in the wrong forum sections. Also, the majority of the posts in these incorrectly located threads are questions that could be solved with a simple thread search or *gasp* actually reading through the ROM/Kernel/MOD thread itself.

I actually think it would be interesting to seed how blazing fast our Hero's can go and besides, not everyones phone boot loops at 768. I'm pretty sure some can go at 825.
and not to come off as an a$$ but I don't see the title of "moderator" underneath your screen name so you really have no say in were people can and cannot post. I understand I am no moderator as well but I don't think bbplaya4life should be chastised by you. No hard feelings?
Congratulations, you can read the forum rules. Can you tell us, are there any rules about responding to posts like an arrogant douche bag. If there are than than sir you are as guilty as he is. If in your opinion it is in the wrong spot than state your opinion and move on, who made you a mod? Lord knows in two days this thread will be buried 6 pages into this section and you won't have to see it again. Otherwise it will be moved or deleted, but seriously I don't get what is wrong with people, if you don't have anything to contribute or you can't answer his question than leave it alone. And in the meantime, I'm not so sure it is possible to overclock that high on our devices. I'm sure if it could be than it probably would have been by this point, as amazing as the devs are that we have had working on the hero currently and in the past.

if you would have bothered actually reading that thread i posted you would see that in fact i dont need to be a mod. THE MODS have said quit posting questions in the development section unless you are developing something and use freakin common sense. Sorry Impaler but like i said before recently this development forum is getting flooded with threads that should be located somewhere else. letting one person get away with it has allowed everyone to just randomly post where they like and its getting outta control.
As far as flaming in the thread yes i am to breaking rules. I admit im being hypocritical when i say read the rules. Think about this tho, there is a huge thread above this section that says post threads in the right section.
Sorry again to everyone who's feathers i have ruffled but Please try and post in the right sections.
Sorry for flaming!
If anyone really wants, I'll put out a Decad3nce Uncapped Kernel that allows for 825MHz. Be warned though that I take no responsibility for any damages that occur.
I've heard from someone that Zen said that our Hero's CAN be clocked well over into 900 mhz, (or it has been done) but it's pointless since our phones wouldn't really be able to handle that speed. Plus, the only thing (in my opinion) it would be good for is a pretty Quadrant Score.

Unstable even if you wanted it. And for clarfication:
The HTC Hero(GSM) and G1 share the same cpu(MSM7200A) while we have the MSM7600(CDMA version, same as Eris) which is >= rev 2 and is much improved.
Here's more info on our chipset: http://www.datasheetpro.com/268121_download_MSM7600_datasheet.html

[Q] Hey Devs, whatcha gonna do with the new Froyo source?

Unless I'm mistaken, there now is only one Dev out there that has stuck by Captivate code. As someone who places a high value on the Audience voice chip on the AT&T devices, I am very interested to see if more devs will look at this newly released source and make something of it, either new or port their existing top-notch work. I've tried, and liked, many of the I9000-based ROMs, but I keep coming back to the Cappy-based ones due to the voice quality.
So Devs... any interest? I'm sure that I'm not alone from a user perspective.
I would like to see a kernal based off the released source that also has the voodoo sound added to it. I am sure there is a lot that can be done and it will take some time.
I was thinking of flashing to something new, but with the source available, I think it's time to be patient. Can't wait for a semi-up to date ROM with full captivate compatibility!
this belongs in Q&A section
I believe whole heartedly that the ROMS the DEVs are putting out are fantastic and do everything I want and need in a ROM.
OTHER then the audiance chip support. It would be cool to have in the roms as an ability but not necessarily required.
See sig below - this post doesnt belong here. *facepalm* The devs will do what they do, when they decide they wanna do it - noobs coming in here constantly asking for sh*t only irritates them and pushes them away from bringing us the good stuff....

I thought about that, but I put it here for two reasons:
The developers come here regularly, and not necessarily the Q&A section
This is a question directed directly at the devs, not necessarily the user community
Make sense?
Devs still read the Q&A - how about reading the forum rules and abiding.... this is un-needed clutter in the Dev section

Not trying to start a flamewar or anything... while I only joined last November, and my post count is indeed low, please don't assume that I'm here asking for candy. I comb these forums many times daily, and only post when I can't find the answers I'm looking for.
As for irritating the devs by asking for stuff... I've noticed that for the most part, they actually like the feedback, and want to know what the users like. I see no problem with providing input. Like I said, I posted here because the Devs come here, and not so much to the Q&A section.
Lastly (and maybe this should have been clearer in my OP), only one dev seems to be working on Captivate kernels, with the rest working on I9000 (since source has been around a long while). What with new hardware around the corner, dev interest for the Cappy might be waning. I thought it a fair question.

Agree completely!! Dev(s) do read other forums
I have question about the source code that was just released. How do I implement it into my build enviroment?
I mean ok I extract the file. Then read the readme file. It says to overwrite the modules I want to build. Is there a general rule to what should and should not be over written. I have compiled the generic code but nothing device specific.

LOL. No apologies needed. This thread that you started is essentially the same as opcow's, except that he posted the news before you did. All that followed in his thread, however, was very similar to the responses in your thread.
Similar, but different - different because the hall monitors didn't flame anyone in that thread! Why not?? Because, methinks, for the most part, those in the other thread were more "senior" than thee, Mr. Dalewest. Get it? There's a pecking order here that must not be violated.
Strange, but I didn't notice any ROM devs complaining in your thread or Opcow's. I did, however, see some silliniess in the other thread, such as "Charlie Sheen throwing some pixie dust" into the new ROMs, but no cries of outrage over that. Then come some self-appointed spokespersons for the devs in your thread saying the devs this, the devs that, "Ooh, the devs are going to get upset," etc. [Sigh]
The source of KB1 dropping has been mentioned since yesterday or before in various threads here, and I didn't see any devs getting upset about it. The KB1 source dropping is certainly related to development. IMO it's perfectly fine to post it in Development. Your are not asking a general question - you are asking what the devs have in mind vis a vis development, now that KB1 has dropped.
That said, given that there was already another thread, you shouldn't have started another one. Consider your wrist slapped, ha, ha.

DJ steve was upset because super moderators of xda demanded that he reveals his kernel source.....I don't think that's even his to reveal since he mentioned that it came from one of his buddies so I guess XDA moderators put a lock on all of his honeystreak thread due to strick rules gpl and open source guidelines on all developers...I understand why XDA strict to their rules since they are actually protecting us from possible virus or malware - who know anyone can say this is my kernel etc etc - how can you really trust someone to offer you operating system?? really nothing is free in this world...

Roms

Would someone care to reference the difference between all the roms? JVS etc every week that I come on here I have to search what the new rom letters mean. Maybe you can make a sticky making it easier for everyone?
This thread is not going to end well.
I don't really care, they sticky everything so why not what roms are for our phones and what ones are ported. Also what order the came out in. Im done with the captivate this weekend anyway, its only a suggestion.
First, id say what your looking for is already clearly available. 2nd, id say this should be in the development section.

Despite stickys and forum announcements most of us are still finding ourselves becoming terribly, terribly vexed at the amount of [Q]'s cluttering the dev section...
Therefore, from now on, if you do not follow the rules outlined below, you will be infracted. Break them again and you may find yourself unable to post anything at all on any forum!!
If you cannot read and abide by the simple rules in this sticky then I dont know how you're going to manage to hack your device without running into trouble.
The Dev section is NOT for asking questions.....
The Dev section is NOT for general topics..........
All threads posted MUST be prefixed with a description of the thread, [ROM] / [Kernel] etc etc.....*
*(Not planning on being particuarly strict on this. You guys (the devs), know how to title a thread.... just a pointer for new devs.)
Basically, unless your thread is to actually release something or discuss something of a very technical and n00b unfriendly nature, it doesnt belong here!
Pretty simple really.....
If you see something that shouldnt be here then PM me....

LG G2 Lollipop Update/port

So since no one seems to be ranting or asking the question about this, then I guess I will. And here's why. I read earlier this past week that LG would be pushing the update for their G3. I figure with that news out there and the idea of tweaking it to work on the G2, that there would be at least a beta out there? I've looked everywhere and I haven't found anything. I'm not sure how hard an LG is to port versus an HTC but I know that there are ports from the One m7, One m8, and One Max that work on the DNA. Anyways, I'm not trying to *****. I'm just curious as to why there isn't anything out yet? I'm ready to test drive the new 5.0 and I don't really like the nexus devices, nor do I have the money to go buy one out right. I'm just really wondering if anyone is even working on this or waiting for it to hit and then will start working on it??
1. I don't think you're allowed to post questions in development forum, ROMs only.
2. The G3 update is not as easy to port as you think as we're missing a kernel. The problem is even more complicated with the Verizon model because we don't have a CDMA Nexus model to base it on. Porting to GSM model can use some help from the existing Nexus 5 kernel. That's what I think.
Well.. I believe that someone(s) is working on a port for the G2. I'm sure that since they're doing it for free and in their spare time, they will release one when they have a "Good, Safe to Flash" version. Since I'm not a developer of any sort and just a very grateful user of their work.. I will continue to wait patiently until they see fit to release it. If I get tired of waiting then I will probably learn how to make one myself. That way I can have it when I want it.
@CoyotesFan4Evr
First and foremost, this is in the wrong section, as stated before. This is not a Q&A forums (see sticky) and at 100 posts, you should know this.
Tim from ose and reven from liquid smooth along with eight other people, two being members working on cm are building cm12 for us.
Twice now it has been leaked, resulting in two broken builds, and doing nothing more then pissing off the guys working on it. It will come when they have it stable.
What? There is no lollipop port for the dna.
Please note the sticky at the top of the Dev forum going forward...
Sticky: ★ ☆ ✰ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting do not go in the Development Section. ✰ ☆ ★
You know I get that everyone isn't trying to be rude about my posting in the wrong section but I'm sorry it came across rude. Yes I have 100 posts or more. However I didn't read the sticky at all because in my opinion of I or someone else should have a root question there isn't a real section for it that is easily noticed called Root: ask your questions here. So I'm personally going to go to the section labeled development and for my carrier and ask those questions. Maybe my brain is wired wrong in the way but to me it seems like common sense. Anyways, I'm done with my polite rant. I appreciate the responses for the information they gave me. I'll just sit back and wait I suppose. I could always play with stuff on my DNA.
@CoyotesFan4Evr
Yeah, I dunno. There's a general Q&A and a Verizon specific Q&A and you're asking a question, so I don't know why it doesn't click.
The reason why you don't ask questions here, is because it would bog the entire forum down with questions versus Roms, and this place is for roms.
I get why I shouldn't have asked my question here. That part clicks just fine mostly anyways. Where it run up on the issue is that it says general questions. I'm a member on another forum and you don't ask general questions about a rooted phone in a section like that. There is a section called all things root for that type of question asking. So I hope the logic of why I asked on this part of the forum makes sense. But for the future I won't post in the wrong section anymore.
Honestly dude just be patient. Some of the Nexus devices are only just now getting the update, and it's going to be a little while longer before we see anything. CM12 is being worked on and we'll get a G3 port a little while after Lollipop hits the G3. I'm foaming at the mouth for L just as much as anyone else, but these things take time.
If you really want to try it out, there's an early CM12 build in the regular Android development forum. It runs but has some bugs on all versions. It's really nice outside of that.
How do I enable WiFi?
Haha, just ****tin' you.
