KustHome : a new skinnable home - Android Themes

Hello all.
I come to present
my latest homescreen for Android: KustHome
KustHome is actually very inspired from the famous hs + + (formerly BatteryStatus) on Windows Mobile.
Basically you describe your desktop in an xml file that you put in
a folder with lots of PNG and you have the desktop of your dreams.
Catch below the bottom part (robot + hours+signal level, etc ...) is actually assembled from the XML.
(Images are declined in 3 colors to make 3 skins)

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
You can place on the desktop:
- Images
- Gauges: images that change depending on :
- Battery
- The radio signal
- 3G
- The traffic data
- Wifi, bluetooth, etc. ...
- Text (which may change depending on time, to your own clock)
- A notification bar
I intend to add:
- Indicators of gmail, sms notification (for the nostalgic, because the widgets do that very well)
- Skinnable buttons to trigger actions chosen by the skinners
- A real clock to make the same as Sense (if a crazy skinner can make 60 images for the minutes)
In terms of functionality funs:
- coverflow desktop chooser
- coverflow running app chooser (without root)
Themes can be sent to me to be placed on the kusthome server.
For the beta everything is free. The software check on a server
if you have the right to change the theme, and download new.
Once finished the beta software will have a duration of 3 free days. Then only the default theme will be available.
(Practical for testing)
Then users must:
- Buy a paid version
or
- Have completed a theme
or
- Ask me to activate all options (a skinner who email a link with his work on other platforms will always have a free version)
PS : available only from Android 1.6 (and in beta so dont make it your default home screen to avoid brick your phone)

Hi,
I just downloaded this and think that its quite good. It has a lot of potential but there are a few a things that are wrong with it.
1- To get the the desktop thing (displaying all home screens) you have to go to menu, it would be much easier to be able to press one button (e.g. the select button)
2- People like to choose the number of home screens they have (I suggest 1-7)
3- I like the idea of having the notifications at the bottom, but this then makes it confusing with bringing down the bar at the top cause its not there and doesnt slide down properly
4- I cannot get used to the idea of not having a dock which is a major turn off for me
5- The Icons at the top... I'm not sure if they are meant to be switchers but if not then it would be a good idea to make them so, and maybe add some more things.
As I said it has alot of pottential but its not quite there yet, good work though =)
Thanx
Aaron

hi,
1 & 2 are planned.
you must click on the notification to open the bar (but yes they are too small)
a dock is planned
icons on top are not switchers because skinners can made small pictures and put them very closely. But skinnable switchers are planned.
You can use the search button to display the task switcher, but you are right : I will made an option to activate the desktop chooser if user wants.

love the way the screens are when the switcher is activated. maybe make it where the screen switcher is activated by a double tap or something simple like that. i will definitely keep an eye on this!!

double tap on home screen is allowed by android 2. It will try to keep it running on android 1.6.

A skinnable Dock and switchers to helps skinners to make buttons in skins (to launch apps or another...)

And first I will make a GUI editor directly on the phone... I hope it will rocks !

I get force close after force close after force close. Any way to fix this?

yes 3 bugs:
- one if data are working when home launch (when i test I am on wifi and data download is too quick, on 3G I have the problem)
- one when moving some shortcuts (concurrent acces to database)
- one if home launch too slowly (not reproducted on my nexus under froyo...too quick) and events are throwed when screen not ready
an update will be published in few hours...

Tried with 1.6 rom and I didn't find kasthome in market, I also looked to the official website and I'm a little confused.
Can you clear this for me please:
For which version of android is and
Which resolutions supported?
I would like to test it and try to make a theme.
I could also make translation of the program if you're interested.

Sorry : kusthome was unpublished 1 july due to an enormous bug with the previous update. The widgets are inserted each time you run kusthome, so after 10 reboots you have ten widgets on the same place. I have unpublished it and
fix the bug. Kusthome is now on the market.
supported resolutions are;
- hvga
- wvga
but kusthome disappear from the market for 1.6... and I dont understand why.

was this continued??????

I would love that to be true.

I think I've tested it. Shows some promise, but doesn't seem to read the dBM signal meter on a CDMA phone, and the existing themes are a bit limited.

awsome
I like kust home alot, would love to make my own themes for it as im great at Photoshop , but not to good at ADB (wish i could change that) as of now im swutching between kust and adw ex i like the abilaity to hide status bar and the cool app draw anamations in ADW but i like how in kust it looks nice and clean

Is this even still live? Link is dead

very true, as i designed it to be a replica of the iphone gui, which is as you say, just buttons. i just wanted to give it a go and share with the community. thanks so much for trying and commenting, i appreciate it. any improvements you would suggest?
i know its pretty lame but i think just a home screen woud be suffice
i think ur buttons are the cleanest and most detailed so i wouldnt change that.
ur iphone calendar like replica rocks.
so yea..just a home screen
It is greate, but i can see anything for picture
cool thank you very much my thème BS it identique icone
Gorgeous.
Nice !
How can I use this theme without MRU and only 1 contact page ?

Work great, thanks. It would be nice it you could replace one of the contact with weather.
Perfect
Very nice work my friend.
Its one of the best and nicest I´have seen. Thanks for sharing.
The only problem I have is that I can´t get the calender as your print screen. I get always the default from the HTC P3300. Am I doing something wrong?
Hi,
Great Work !
Unfortunately doesn't really work for me (SPB MS 2.1.0.3363). I have a lot of Icons which have no Description. They are titled Icon 1, Icon 2, Icon 3 and so on. Perhaps i've done something wrong during installation ?
Thx, lagloose
OK
I found the problem. It won´t work with SPB version 2.1.2. It works perfect with version 2.1.
Thanks

[SKIN][OFFLINE] tPRO2 for S2U2 | v2.21

Dear friends and xda-devs,
I’m sad to inform you that http://tpro.station59.com has to be shut down. Since announcing version 2 of my tPRO skin series and launching the website last summer, and after 60,000+ downloads since then alone, this project received nearly no support (thank you Michael and John for your donations). Thus, I can no longer maintain domain, hosting and download bandwidth for this website.
I still plan expanding the skin series with support for new applications and introduce new ui designs, and of course share it with this great community. However, due to my heavy workload at another project of mine I am forced to put this one on hold till the end of the summer.
Thank you all,
dEM

What do you mean by messaging notification? There are already icons for text messages (sms), multimedia messages (mms) and e-mails (icons 2, 3 and 4 on my screenshot). Still can't get this envelope in a baloon thing...
I'll work on messenger and flexmail icons then. And I think I'll redesign the mms one. This is the first one I came up with but don't think it's that indicative.
Hi

Hey there,
Since you obviously see the wallpaper with the flip clock it seems you have copied it right.
1. I guess your time format is set to H:mm without the leading zero - 8:22 instead of 08:22. Use your favorite registry editor and change the key HKCU\Software\A_C\S2U2\TimeFormat key to HH':'mm. This should make sure the time is always four digits and therefore always aligned to the wallpaper. I'll make sure to add a .reg file with all the necessary changes soon.
2. What other differences do you find from the screenshot? If you can provide a screenshot of your device it'll be great.
3. This is my mistake. I never use fullscreen battery hence never worked on that. Note taken.
Nice work. Any chance a clock font that supports the 5:00PM format?
if i just want the notifier icons wich files do i gota copy?

I can extend the flip clock to fit the am/pm but still you have to set time with leading zero to have the same number of digits all the time eg. 05:00PM.

Holy S!it,nice skin, gonna install it asap, thx for the hard work
looking sweet.
Sorry guys,
Current hardcoded layout of S2U2 doesn't allow me to make the flip clock work with fullscreen battery. Hope not a lot of you use it anyway...
Start working on some left over notification icons and am/pm flip clock.
I've changed the MMS icon (icon #4) to baloon with a paper clip similar to how it's shown in TF3D.
Then I created one for Flexmail (icon #6) and used one from Manila for Messenger (icon #7).
Hope you like them. If you do download the attached file and unzip to gfx folder, overwriting the old notice.png.
Still can't figure out what's the second icon for though..
demonizator said:
It may sound stupid but did not find what are these icons for:
I guess the last one is for Windows Live Messenger notifications but I don's use it to test the icon. And have no idea what are the first two for.
If somebody can help me with this I will replace them with TouchFLO-alike icons.

The 2nd icon is for Pocket Informant, not sure about the 1st one. It looks like an email icon, but I'm sure it cant be that easy.
I played around with the flip clock trying to make it work with am/pm time and tried to get it as close as possible to TF3D (screen #1) but it's not that simple. There's no way to get the am/pm symbols closer to the digits. Extending the flip itself is pretty ugly for me (screen #2) so I came up with something like this (screen #3).
If you like it I can export wallpaper fitting the time this way. If you have any other ideas you're more than welcome.
Can I just have this in 12hour format without the AM/PM. Cause really. I don't need to know if it's night or day lol. I can notice that by just looking around.
Dude this is great work, I'm gonna try this out soon, first I need to update my S2U2 because I noticed that its not quite the newest version, another question also does this extra nice looking stuff take any kind of battery toll?
Thanks man, this looks flippin great.

[THEME] [Status Upd 7/28/10] [QVGA Lnd] [Std 6.1|6.5] SenseHero for Smartphone Theme

Well, I've had a lot of free time on my hands lately and this is the result. I'll probably be ditching my Blackjack II in about a month when I'm eligible for an upgrade, but I had to make one last theme for it.
As far as I'm aware, there are no other sliding panel themes like this for Windows Mobile Standard, and yes, the weather works! I had to write my own application for the weather (edit: and for the clock... I tried just using the HTC font for the clock but it didn't look that great). Since it's a sliding panel theme, there are of course pretty sliding animations when navigating around the home screen.
Requirements
Windows Mobile Standard 6.1 or 6.5
QVGA Landscape device
Update (6/5/2010)
Updated some graphics
Wrote an application to provide a better looking clock that has animation!
Update (6/6/2010)
Current temperature now displayed
Update (6/7/2010)
Initial release! Download and installation instructions below...
Update (6/7/2010)
Changed vertical alignment of temperature
Fixed bug where wallpaper was not automatically changed upon install on WM 6.1
To update, simply install the latest version of SenseHero_Theme_6X.CAB. This is the only file that changed. No need to remove the old version before installing.
Status Update (6/9/2010)
I've discovered several bugs and will be looking into fixing them over the weekend. Here are the bugs I will be working on...
The clock and weather applications both have minor memory leaks that can lead to a crash after they've been running for a while.
Notifications sometimes disappear when the clock is updated.
The clock panel steals focus from the notifications and program links panels when it's updated.
The clock sometimes takes longer than I'de like to update when resuming from the screen off state.
The weather application can't be installed to storage card.
Status Update (7/28/2010)
Alright guys, here's the current status. I put a lot of work into this theme after the last release, but I could never figure out how to fix a few of the major problems without totally changing how everything is done.
The problem is that there is no good way to update the homescreen. The way the Weather and Clock applications currently do it is by telling Windows Mobile to refresh the entire homescreen. This has several adverse side affects. First of all, updating the entire homescreen is slow, so there is a noticeable pause when returning to the homescreen from any application. Second, there is a bug in Windows Mobile that causes unread email and text message notifications to disappear when the entire homescreen is refreshed. I almost got around the problem by using the registry to tell Windows Mobile to update only specific items, but I ran into some limitations here with the number of custom images I could update per plugin panel.
It seems like the best way to make this theme work flawlessly would be to make Clock and Weather homescreen plugins instead of them being separate applications. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any documentation from Microsoft on how to write homescreen plugins. People have done it so I know it's possible, but I assume they had to go by trial and error and it was probably very hard. I just don't have time to do that.
I think the best thing to do now is to release the source code as Visual Studio projects and hope that some talented developer with a lot of free time on his hands can figure something out. I'm packaging everything up and it should be available within a day or two.
Update: The Visual Studio 2005 projects are available below in the SenseHero_Source.zip file. Good luck!

Installation Instructions
If you have customized bronzeres.dll and CHome_320x240.cpr files that you want to keep, make sure they're backed up
Unzip SenseHero_For_Smartphone.zip and copy the files to your device or storage card
Install SenseHero_Clock.CAB and SenseHero_Weather.CAB
Install the SenseHero_Theme_6X.CAB that corresponds to the version of Windows Mobile you're running (6.1 or 6.5)
After installing SenseHero_Theme_6X.CAB, you will be asked to reboot
Both SenseHero Clock and SenseHero Weather will launch automatically at startup. You will be presented with the following screen...
Type in your city and state delimited by a comma or your zip code. If you want weather information to be retrieved immediately rather than waiting for the set interval to trigger an update, select Update Now and wait a few seconds for the Last Update timestamp to display. Select Hide or press the Home key on your keyboard to minimize the application.
The wallpaper may not have taken effect for some users (especially 6.1 users). In this case, simply set your wallpaper to something else and then back to a SenseHero Wallpaper.
Three wallpapers are included with the theme...
Optionally, apply the glossy black color scheme attached separately by running its .exe file on your device (*Note: I didn't create this color scheme)
Customization
Due to the nature of this theme, custom wallpapers and icons are required. Photoshop and Paint.NET templates are available for this reason.
Images and icons used by this theme are stored in \My Documents\SenseHero\
Program links can be changed by creating new icon images and editing the CLinksSenseHero plugin in CHome Configurator.
This is great news!!
I´ll be pending on your launching
Thanks
Update information in first post.

It works the same way as the regular sliding panel theme. You slide up and down to select a panel (clock, notifications, or program links) and then you can slide left and right between pages on the notifications panel and to select a program from the program links panel.
Yes, you can click on items in the panels just like in any other theme.
Released! Post any bugs or problems you encounter and I'll try to get them worked out. It's a pretty complicated theme so I would be surprised if everything goes smoothly for everyone.

How is this theme on battery life? I know that on other renditions of the Hero clock, battery life is very minimal. Is this theme different than the others?

Battery life shouldn't be affected. I kept this concern in mind while writing the clock application. If you navigate away from the homescreen or the backlight turns off, the application stops updating the clock. When you return to the homescreen or the backlight turns back on, the clock updates and resumes. So essentially, it only updates while it's visible, and thus should use very little battery life.

Haha. It takes a little time to figure out how it all works. I sat down for some hours before I was even able to modify the Borderline theme - but goddamn I love the customization possibilities! =DD
I love SweeterHome and its customisation, but I find the performance a bit lacking sometimes. Anyone else having that problem?
Great themes by the way.

Yeah. I get a couple of Force Closes a day - and it can be a bit laggy at times. When it does get laggy I normally use FastReboot and that fixes it.
Thanks
Oh my, SweeterHome! Completely forgot about that since my old G1!

Here's one of mine. Search for 'colormeandroid' or 'touchme' to find it.
I really like this launcher and wonder why more folks don't.
I'm still learning how to use it and yes it's harder to theme then other launchers.
But the end results are great.
I only wish it had one thing...scrolling widget support.
It needs the ability by different theme designers to 1) choose screen layout: conventional instead of 2D 2) ability to lock out additional screens 3) better resolution independent support. Right now the layouts pretty much ONLY works for one res and looks like **** in any other res.
I've started to work on a Win7 Starter theme
Not a lot really....all for 240x320 (I have a Vodafone 845)
Been playing around with this for the last few days managed to come up with this
i love the amount of functionality it adds to my phone
might change it and invert the colours though

No doubt! SweeterHome really has some cool features. Nice work, btw.
What's the theme called? - If you've uploaded it that is.

before you change the colors could i use this theme? i like the black and while clean look and you have done a great job with it.
Is it possible to use an Action tray to change the skin when clicked?
I'm still working out all the possibilities.
The biggest advantage I like about SH is that all widgets can be hidden using springboards.
This is my first theme. Search for "Tabby" or "Vertig" from SH Theme section
It's pretty simple, a bottom dock that is on the left, center, and right screens. The buttons change color when pressed.
Below are the three docks
If you have any suggestions/comments, or want a modified dock, let me know.

Hello Xda!
This is my new app DeskBar Launcher. It creates a bar at the bottom of the screen of your Android device and can even replace your virtual buttons Home, Recent Apps and Back. Back button needs root for the moment but soon accessible with no root for all 4.1+ devices). If you have physical buttons or want to keep your stock ones, there's an autohide option much like bar you can find on Windows, Linux, etc.
Features :
-add shortcuts to your favorite apps on the bar or in the StartMenu
-can replace your virtual buttons (optional Menu button will need root. Back button too except if you have Android 4.1+)
-music controllers to pause/go to next/previous song in any apps
-volume controllers
-lock button to minimize accidental input of your bar and soft buttons
-(Experimental)(ROOT) Fullscreen button
-access all your apps in StartMenu as well as categories such as Pictures, Music, Settings, etc.
-launch search, lock screen or shutdown(ROOT) your device from the StartMenu
-Customize the appearance of your bar and menu.
Future features:
-Folders
There's a 10days-trial version available here : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stephapps.deskbar
And the license key at $2.49 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stephapps.deskbarkey
Don't hesitate to post all your questions, suggestions, or if you encounter any problem!
Hello a big update (1.2) is coming, Here's the changelog:
Change log 1.2
-added optional menu button
-added search button and power button in startMenu( lock screen, (root) shutdown/reboot )
-added new customization tab in options for deskbar, startmenu, startButton
-added default icons for first time launch
-fixed bug with icons not sizing correctly sometimes in startMenu
-added personalized shortcuts in startMenu.
-bugfixes including the ones reported.
Can't wait to see what some of you will do with the new customization options (which might be buggy for the moment, this feature is kind of beta right now) , don't hesitate to post pictures if you have some cool results!
Wow nice work!

Nice
Thanks guys,
I'm working on a white theme but I have no idea for other themes :silly:.
Hey let's have a little contest. Submit your custom theme (no copyright stuff please), and if it's selected to be inserted into the app, you'll have an unlimited trial  (similar to a paid version, I have sadly no easy way to directly give away the paid version ) and your name in the app credits of course.
What's needed:
-background for Deskbar
-background for the StartMenu
-2 images for pressed and normal StartButton states.
You might need to use 9patch for the 2 first ones.
I absolutely love this app! This is exactly what I have been looking for! If I may recommend some features for in the future, I prefer to have half of the bar so I can access my notifications, but it's difficult to reach the navigation icons in the middle. Could there be an option to have them appear under the start menu above the lock screen button? I'm also curious if the applications on the bar could be changed from shortcuts to the most recent apps. That might not be possible, but it would be a very useful feature as there already is a quick shortcut option under the start menu. Love your work and I'm excited to see the direction of this app!

Hello, thanks for your nice feedback!
You're the second person to ask for the virtual buttons to be in the start menu, so I think I will try to add it soon.
For recent apps, it won't be easy to add it to the bar. In start menu it will be easier but might be less interesting.
When selecting "pictures" under the start button on my gt-p3113 and Galaxy S3 the gallery starts to open but then crashes with the message "unable to find item". This happens regardless of the default gallery I choose. Other than that id just like to say I really love this app. With ubuntu style sidebars getting a lot of attention lately I feel this needs equal if not more and I will recommend this to everyone. Keep up the great work! Also I think it would be nice if users could adjust the amount of time it takes for the bar to disappear and perhaps the option for the bar to stay until the user decides to swipe it away.
How is this uninstalled? When i deactivate from Google Play it does nothing, nor can i uninstall from apps manage?
Tried to remove this from device admin, but it doesn't appear there, so no way to uninstall
You enabled the administrative mode to allow the app to lock the screen on demand. You need to disable this lock screen feature first to be able to uninstall (as stated when you tick the option).
Beta question
is there a beta apk where some feature are in beta are tested?
if so, I would like to help test the beta version.
Very nice app, using it on my Samsung Galaxy player running Gingerbread 2.3, which has no virtual nav keys. I can't find any option in settings to disable the autohide function, so I can keep the bar on screen. Am I missing something here, or is it because the Galaxy Player doesn't actually have its own soft keys and a nav bar?
Would certainly like to purchase this app, if I can get the bar to stop autohiding.
EDIT: Well, I installed deskbar on my Touchpad and the option to disable autohide is there. So, it looks like for some reason, it doesn't show up on my Galaxy Player 4.0 running Gingerbread 2.3.
Thanks,
Mike T
Is development still going on?
I contacted the dev but didn't get any answers yet.
can't find it
The app is no longer in google play. does anyone know where I can download it?
