Review: 2000 mAh Battery for Mytouch 3g - myTouch 3G, Magic Accessories

So one of the biggest flaws of the early android phones (in my own opinion) has been battery life. One of the quickest and simplest options for early adopters is to buy an extended battery. So that question remains where can someone get a reliable battery? Well after perusing forums and coming to the conclusion that this field seems to be relatively untouched, I decided to splurge and buy the 2000 mAh battery by Seidio.
Normal retail price is 60 dollars but I found mine on mobilecityonline for 30 dollars
http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/productdetail.asp?productid=25418
Note: I am currently running cyanogen 5.0.8 stable with the community hero mix theme
First impressions: After unpacking the battery, it is THICKER but that is to be expected. It comes with a replacement cover which has a matte rubbery feel to it. Feels good
WARNING: The battery cover will not accommodate models with a 3.5mm jack, so if you want to use this battery you may need to do some tinkering
First day of full use : After putting the battery through two charge cycles I noticed a GREAT improvement on battery life. Starting at about 11AM with some light browsing and youtube, battery was still in good condition. Afterwards a few hours of mild calling and texting and finally some more youtube and browsing at about 7 or 8 along with plenty of texting. By midnight the battery was still at 75 percent and lasted through the night and allowed me to watch some more videos until about 3 in the afternoon.
That's all I can say about it so far after 3 days of use.
Definitely a battery to consider if you need a little more life in your phone from day to day, Follow up review, video and pictures coming soon!
Feel free to leave comments and questions, and if you decide to buy one give us your thoughts!

well im looking into it now, and just to make sure it will work with my htc magic from rogers with no 3.5jack, right?
because for 30$ its worth it to have better battery life IMHO

That's my issue is that I'd love to buy an extended battery for my 1.2 but I haven't seen any battery covers that account for the headphone jack. I'm sure you could rig it with a Dremel or something.

Yes it should work just fine

It seems easy to cut a hole out for the 3.5mm jack, I'm sure you could do it fairly easily

it just hit clearance for $19.99. Really wishing it had the option to choose a white cover. I may get one anyway though.

Seems they just cleared out their stock of it, anyone out there get one from mobilecity before they sold out?
Have no fear though, theres still plenty of vendors you can get this product at (for a slightly higher price, but I think it's worth it)

is the battery's size bigger then regular mytouch 3g?? or same???

As far as I understood the battery is thicker then the stock one, so the original cover won't work.
They have a lot of different batteries on aliexpress DOT com.

Extended Battery Opinions Requested

I've been looking at the xv6800 extended battery options. Since I came from an 6700 with the monster extended battery, I'm kind of leaning towards one that is somewhere in the middle. The monster 3200 (or 33, 34... don't remember) was awesome, I don't think I need that much day to day.
I don't think the 1800 is an option, so I guess I have to choose from the ones that require a different battery door. I'm looking for the minimum increase to phone thickness.
Option 1: I can't find measurements, but this looks like the least additional thickness. 2400 Mah. I can't get a good indication on the thickness it adds.
Option 2: This is interesting due to the way it is designed, it looks like it might feel comfy in the hand... 2200 Mah
Option 3: This is pretty much the same, but squares off the back so it might lay on the desk, counter, dashboard, etc more evenly... Another 2400 mah. At that point, I might as well get the monster 3200 Mah
I'm leaning towards option 1 since it is close to double the capacity, but it looks realitively thin.
Thoughts? Opinions?
seidio makes the 3200 one but no case for it.

Yes, I was aware of that, thanks. I'm just wondering if anyone has opinions or reviews of Option 1?
option 1 adds about 1/4 inch
Option 1s picture could be deceiving since the picture makes it hard to tell how thick it is from the side. The monster battery is overkill for me. I would go with option 1 if it extends only half way out as much as the monster battery would. It would be nice if somehow I can get the option 1 battery with the option 2 battery cover.
Option 1 battery with option 2 cover.
I have the option 2 Battery with a slightly different cover...Sort of Slanted sides to a flat and the cover looks great...
But don't bother with 2200 or 2400...
Mine is 2200 and you really don't get a lot extra from it. Can't imagine an extra 200 is going to make a significant difference. You will wake up the next day with a usable unit but you won't make it through the day.
Go for the 3200 if you can get it.
That should let you skip a day on the charging if you have to...
It would be really nice to see these batteries + covers from many different angles. People willing to take some pictures and post them?
It's a battery and cover for a phone. I think if you're worried about "looks" rather than functionality, perhaps the priorities are a bit skewed.
Buy the biggest battery for your needs, the looks are going to be what they are regardless because the manufacturers decide what the thing looks like. If it's ugly, to you, return it.

I don't agree with your comment completely. Yes, looks is a comparison option, and based on that alone, I wouldn't get the 3200, but I know that I will require x minimum amount of battery, so that is not the only consideration. Some of those with the slanted covers appear that they might feel more comfortable from a grip standpoint. The 3200 might be too big as it relates to holsters, pouches, etc. I am asking for opinions across the board, not just a beauty contest
Based on Asphyx reply, I might just go ahead and get a 3x00 variant... probably the prettiest one
I have the seidio battery and extended battery hard cover, it has a rubber"y" grippy feeling to it. Looks fine and all in black. My holster fits just fine.
Not sure what beauty part of a phone has to do with it, you could have a really beautiful dead phone, but well, it's just a really beautiful brick then.
Thanks,
Has anyone found a charging base that works with a phone (6800) that has the extended battery installed? I don't want to unplug the battery to charge it and I'm trying to get away for the cable bit, I liked the base that the 6700 had.
I've done EXTENSIVE looking for this exact thing, and so far have had to mod 2 normal cradles so I can use them with a super extended battery.
The cradles because they had to be modded didn't have anything to support the device standing up, finally gave up and just use the cable on the desktop.

Here are a couple of options for you.
http://www.seidioonline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=832
http://www.seidioonline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=833
The standard dock has a 3.5mm audio port that allows you to plug into external speakers, while the Jr. version is simple sync & charge. Both will work with extended batteries.
Thanks,

NEITHER one of these answers the original request. The only difference between these two cradles is that one lets you keep the rubberized case on the device while charging. That is NOT the same as charging while having the extended battery IN the device using a cradle. I too would like this option. I've asked for this months ago. I have a super extended battery with a rubberized case and want a cradle that accommodates that and a spare battery to charge from the cradle as well.
To date, nothing like this exists.

HTC Touch battery on deal extreme

can the one they are selling on dealextreme be used for our p6900's? i know that one is for p3450 or something.. but will the back cover fit? someone wrote there that the battery does work on our phones but the cover doesnt fit properly and he had to cut it to fit? anyone else on this board has tried this option yet or is everyone spending over $50 for battery?
I looked at the one on dealextreme along with about 20 other web sites. I finally decided on a 2400 mAh battery by mugen power. I paid 69 US for it and shipping was free at nakedcellphone.net
When it finally arrived I was absolutely impressed for the following reasons:
the capacity of the battery is more than twice as long as the OEM bat;
the back cover is thicker than the oem cover but does not have the hump;
although thicker, it actually fits in my hand more comfortably. I like the way the phone feels much better;
the chrome ring around the camera lens looks identical to the original, and as one would expect the diameter at the outside is larger to avoid an optic tunnel;
color matching is identical to the Sprint Vogue.
This phone rocks!
yea the only problem i had with the dealextreme one was the back cover.. the battery is amazing.. lasts me forever.. but the back cover is quite ugly and doesn't fit the vogue properly.. it leaves a lil gap at the bottom.. i think its designed for the GSM version .. but the battery itself is amazing.. just incase u wanna buy it just for the battery...

I looked at naked cellphone on ebay and was interested in the cradle they offer and possibly 2 extended batteries (i'd put the OEM away for a last ditch backup) but does the extended batter fit in a cradle properly with the larger battery installed? Any success here?
Thanks

Sorry for the delayed response. No, the extended battery will not fit into the majority of cradles out there. But when I googled close to 50 different web sites selling accessories for the vogue, I stumbled across 1 or 2 who were advertising that they had cradles that would fit the thicker phones with ext bats. Sorry I don't have a site to give you but you should be able to find it if you haven't already.
Update to the Mugen Power 2400 extended battery:
It has awesome battery life, like a week or more on standby. I can get hours and hours of of GPS, phone use, mp3, web, etc. at least 8 hours or more. I love the phone.

Does anyone know dinodirect.com?
This site is also selling HTC replacement batteries. To guarantee your phone life span, I would recommend you to use original battery.
SKU: A0324000KD
This replacement can be applied to 6900.
I ordered HTC Touch battery from dealextreme, but i never received my order so far.. So i reordered it from Chinabuye, an online store from China. I received ontime with free ship cost. Through paypal, payment i made easily and find its safe with them. When it comes to quality, its good one and brand sytlish. Rates are quite cheaper and has discount features.
Chinabuye !
I think it will better to use online Shop from China Chinabuye rather than dealextreme !
Chinabuye has more payment options and free shipping option ! which make buyer attractive to buy ! and also it has great quality products !
The battery and cover I just purchased today are these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/BLACK-BACK-DOOR...662959?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item45ebf8516f
Looks like a really good price on the battery and I'm crossing my fingers that they cover will fit - looks like it should.
Good luck on finding the battery. These Vogues are all coming up on end of life for the batteries it seems as they can only be charged so many times.

This is by far my favorite of the 3 holsters I've previously owned for various phones by the same company. Phone sits very secure with no fear of falling out at all.
Interesting, the price is a bit steep but not too high.
I would like to see some higher res pics from a few angles to get a better idea of what the case cover looks like.
I have the holster but how do you know the extended battery fits the holster? From the single photo of the battery cover, it looks like the top sticks out as much as the area below the camera...

Yes I did see that though from the photo it does not look like that's the case. Do you really think it's compatible from that photo? I've had the extended battery for the Storm and the holster worked fine because the battery cover did not extend on the upper portion where the camera is. Guess we'll have to wait for someone to actually dive in but in the meantime I'm sticking to what I can tell from that photo on their site.
Reasonable price? depends on what you think is reasonable. You do realize that without either the battery or the phone, the other is pretty worthless. I think it's a great price considering crap motorola batteries are $30
got this from seidio, just an fyi, they must be talking about different holsters or the listing might just be plain incorrect.

I ordered this, and its been shipped already and I am awaiting arrival. I also have the innocase and holster combo, and while I know the innocase wont fit, I will try the holster and report back if that one works.
any idea which case will work?
:/
I got mine today. Huge battery
The replacement cover is ok, although I am afraid it will accidentally slide off in my pocket.
Overall, the added bulk really doesn't make a huge difference, in fact it makes it a little easier to hold.
Can't wait to see what the battery life on this sucker is like.

I got mine today too. I also like the added bulk. It fits my Seidio holster, even though the innocase that I got with the holster wont fit. Made of the same material as the innocase so its hard to scuff etc. I'll report back after a few cycles to let people know what I'm getting usage wise out of it.
UPDATE:
Well, it came off the charger at 3:30pm today saying 100%. I have been hammering it mercilessly for 6 hours now. Streaming Pandora for six hours straight, Turned on GPS, set all of my social network notifications to the quickest pull intervals, and my mail also. I have had the web browser open for nearly three hours, had three calls of around 20 minutes each, and my awake time since I pulled the battery off the charger is 100%. I am sitting at 75% right now. I am trying to get the battery low so I can get a full charge for the next cycle, but this damn thing won't go down. I guess I'll try to download a game or something and play it while listening to Pandora. This thing is a beast....
This is a beast. Used it all evening last night, and the power meter did not budge.
Also the new back makes the Hero much easier to hold.
Waiting for a day in the office where I have a weak signal to see how it does there. I'm guessing this thing will make it through a day or two no matter what I throw at it.
By far the best accessory...
Awesome, guys, glad to hear this thing is the real deal. I'm thinking about getting one but I'm waiting for the price to go down. Anyone know if they usually do? Last extended battery I bought was only $7, this one is pretty steep.

watch out for these kinda deals, i'm fairly certain seidio's waranty doesn't transfer to 3rd party sellers completely.
I had purchased a battery from seidio previously that was DoA, and after a conversation with their RMA department getting my invoice number and all that, they said they will replace bad batteries from anywhere but since I purchased through seidio directly they would send me a replacement without having to send the old one back first (or at all, they just said to pitch it). The battery that was sent to me was tested with a full power cycle before being over-nighted to my door.
I don't know, it's something to think about. If I'm getting a quality piece of gear, and the service to back it. I don't mind throwing out an extra little bit.
I'm on my second charge. The phone has been off the charger since 12pm on Sunday. I am sitting at 70% on Monday at 2pm. I'm really liking the usage I am getting out of this. I did not beat on it too much yesterday, just a lot of normal use. I figure at this rate, I will have to charge it every three or so days. I'm hoping it improves after a few cycles, even though I've only charged it twice so far. I'm going to run it down to 30% or so before the next charge....who knows when that will be lol.

HD2 Extended Battery (Chinese version)

Anyone bought it?
http://cgi.ebay.com/2400mAh-Extende..._Accessories&hash=item5ad84bc6c0#ht_500wt_750
I'm curious about how it will fit and if its secure.
I have this battery, and i found the fitting it not that good. I had to trim down some edges from the plastic cover to fit properly. Also the battery lifetime doesn't impress me much, so it's my backup battery now and the original will be my primal.
so is it a no buy? does it last???
man... I really wanted a long lasting battery
at last a 1 day without charge
I really use the phone a lot...
video, excel, internet, gps, games...
HD2 is a powerhouse and don't let me down (rick roll xD)
the only cons is the battery life.
=================
"lifetime doesn't impress me much"
it's really that bad? What do you think its the REAL capacity?
it's printed 2400mh...
You think it last 30% more than a original battery?
I was expecting to last 50% more at least...
I really doubt it is even 30%, i haven´t tested it thoroughly but i found that i was at the same percentage at the end of the day with the fat battery as with the orignal one. So i just have this fat battery with me in case of an ermergency or so. My original battery now last 3 days for me so i can deal with that, i don´t use it that often.
I would not buy it for a second time, even tho it is really cheap.
So why will they sell this huge brick and it is no better than the flat original battery? hmmmm... :-?
To make money, and it works
You can buy two spare standard batteries and charger for around $12US on ebay, and I find it quite easy to just have a charged spare in my pocket for when I am out and about, and one still on charge ready for when I get home in case I need it.
For me it has been an improvement. I have more protected the camra and now the life expectancy is slightly higher than 40%
size of ext.battery
Could anybody post a photo of HD2+ext.bat or write in mm width of exserted battery.
if you are honestly going the route of the ugly ugly extended battery back cover and all.. why not just get an official htc.. so quality wouldn't be an issue????

Mugen Power 3600 mAh extended battery

Hiya, I just purchased the 3600 mAh Mugen Power extended battery and the case it came with doesn't seem to have an antenna built into it. Would it be possible to fix on a thin strip of metal to the case and have it touch the connectors on the phone? If so, which metal would give the best reception or are the antennas more complex than just a line of wire? Thanks for any info!
mugen power accessories are really bad quality... i would buy it. if you do it yourself you can damage yourbdevice by short circuit...
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
Nice fail from mugen. No more calls with extended battery. Airplane mode will extend battery life even more
I think you should claim for a refund. According to your description their product is useless.
Thought Mugen was a high end battery supplier, but this is really an unacceptable major fail.
Thanks for sharing.

Hmm I need to rectify this mistake. Sorry it took so long for me to reply. After the initial few days of no responses I stopped monitoring this thread. I was at the beach when my roommate let me know the package had arrived. I asked him to open it and that's the conclusion he gave me when I asked. In the photos on the website you can't tell exactly so out of frantic worry and to find a solution I posted on here via my phone.
The truth is it's a pretty damn good battery. There is an antenna in the back cover and I'm not really sure why my friend thought there wasn't. Reception seems to be the same even though the antenna is bigger? Or maybe its around the same size if the stock back cover has it hidden in the plastic. The Mugen Power back case covers it with black tape. That aside, the cover feels fairly sturdy, though it could be improved a bit. Maybe some self modification would resolve that issue. It makes a bit more noise when you squeeze it than the stock cover but it doesn't feel like its going to come off or fracture.
As for the battery it seems to last me on average 40 hours before I feel the need to charge it. I'd say it isn't used heavily, more like my old phone where I just sent texts all day, called a few people and listened to music for a good number of hours. The longest I've had it go was 57 hours after letting it completely die. All in all I am quite satisfied aside from a few minor complaints about the case.
Once again I apologize about this, I jumped the gun. Also, the website I purchased it from http://www.pdaphone-battery.com will deliver if you order from them. I was worried it was a scam site since it looks extremely ghetto and no confirmation email or tracking number was sent to me after purchase. But as I said the shipping was speedy and they did send me what I ordered. They don't use https though which bugged me, however the paying part used PayPal so that was acceptable.
One more picture for better reference. I'll post a comparison picture of stock vs extended batter cover sizes if people are interested.
@Flappyraccoon
can we see inside the back cover/door...part of the signal ...TQ
You mean the bare antenna under the tape? Sure, I'll try to get pics up later today for ya.
Sorry but looks like a brick. What´s the weight of it now? Hope you´re satisfied.
I only pulled it back far enough so you could see what the antenna was made out of. Hope that is enough for ya. As for the second picture, when you look at it and feel with your fingers the antenna (I'm assuming its made from the same thin metal) is laid out in the path of the red line. It ends at the yellow line.
As for the phone brick, its not much heavier at least in my opinion. It also fits into my hand and doesn't wiggle around as much. This is because it fills in the gap between my hand and the phone. For me that is wonderful, maybe not for you .
Thats great news!
But I'm more excited about another battery - HLI-DesireZSL. It is originaly made for Desire Z, but MUGEN guys say its perfect in IS! It has 1800mAh, but use the standart HTC cover.

One more picture for better reference. I'll post a comparison picture of stock vs extended batter cover sizes if people are interested.

OMG is that a brick or the incS, how the hell do you use that!
It's not bad, and the 50+ hour battery life makes it worth it. Plus, that was before root and s-off . Now with an undervolted kernel and a debloated rom I'm hoping its a lot more ^_^.

Where can I buy a better battery that lasts the longest with the same old battery cover? Someone point me in the right direction? Nice battery life btw.

Same place, Mugen has a slim 1900mAh
I have it in my DInc2 and it last much longer than the OE one
Thanks, I'll look into it.

Been using the 3600 Mugen for almost 3 weeks. I agree with Flappyraccoon that the phone fits into my hand better and feels less flimsy. I've dropped it less and reception difference is unnoticeable, but I live in a decent service region.
But the thin stock case does give me the appearance of having more sleek technology, and there's nothing like a dying battery at the end of one day's use for an excuse to stop talking with my girlfriend :$
I get about the same time out of it as Flappyraccoon. So much more comfortable using my phone whenever I want without worrying about later that evening. Easy to do a daily top up still but at my convenience, not the phone's urgency!
