Considering rooting - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently considering rooting but before I do so and try out different roms I want to know if there's a rom that is basically the official 2.1 version but with the ability to utilize the apps for OC and WiFi tethering. Important that sense is present and that all included features are fully functional. I want to know about this so that I can have something similar to the official version to start out with.

Damage Control or Sprint 2.27.651.6 STOCK Deoxed rom by nfinitefx45 are your best bet

nfinitefx45's stock ROM vs. beezy420's HoneyBun ROM

Both are based off the original RUU. Both come in odex'ed and deodex'ed varieties, and come with Apps2SD. They can also use DarchKernel. Both sound great, I just want to know how to choose, or at least what their differences are.
Not sure. I am running icedhoneybun v3.5 and it is smooth.

Biggest different I know of is that beezy implemented the gumbo.sh script on the honeybun roms, which is a script that automatically changes the settings for androids build in lowmemkiller. It essentially does the same thing as the app "autokiller" from the market, except its auto-magic.

Couple of questions...

New to android world and looking for first rom. On stock Froyo 2.2, rooted, clockwork installed. Which rom can be installed without Odin? Do kernels have to be installed separate, if so, is it before or after rom install? Looking for sense-like ui.
Thanks!!

If you want sense go buy a HTC lol. Odin is going to be your bread and butter since its the easiest way to flash to stock and flash kernels. Most roms can be installed without odin though. Go to the dev page and look around at the roms and make your choice. Remember Gingerbread needs new bootloaders (except Cyanogenmod and Miui) and as always read read read.
CM7......

ROM Without Bloat?

Before you say that there is no bloat in all the custom ROMs, I have ran a few of them and they still have stuff like Backup Assistant running in the background and I would love to not have to clean it. I would love the stock launcher and AOSP (of course it's based on the Verizon ROM since CM7 isn't stable but just for the drivers and stuff only) as much as possible and even the stock Gingerbread look and feel. Is that possible? Or at least remove all the Verizon software?
Check out liberty rom..its very aosp like and although its just a blurless rom its still nice and I don't think there's any bloat in it but hey I could be terribly mistaken. There's a link in the development secotion under the thread 'liberty rom now on d3' to the rootzwiki page thazt has the download
/Droid3
Pedwards3x has a deodexed/debloated 'stock' ROM at RootzWiki (sorry, can't post links just yet) you might wanna check into.
Thanks guys.

[Q] Rogers 7" Tab - Scared to Update - Help

I currently have a 3g Rogers Tab GT-P1000R. Currently running Froyo 2.2. I am wanting to update it to 2.3 Gingerbread Rogers rom but am wondering if there are any negatives. In the future I would like to update to some custom roms.
Does updating it lock the bootloader or is it already locked? Any way to easily check?
Thanks.
Check my honeycomb install thread for a APK for the bootloader check and unlock. The rest, well read read read.

No problem going from gingerbread to CM 7.1 beta from the forums here on my Rogers p1000r. If you search you'll find a thread with rooted 2.2 stock firmware for Rogers too.

I am on Rogers using the Team Overcome 4.0 ROM.
It works AWESOME!!!
Stock Roms are useless to me as they are bloated and slow plus your machine is locked down. I prefer the roms that are built on the stock rom platform as the core of the rom is stable and usually all the devices work just fine.

Stock Froyo , Self Tweaking Idea's.

Greets,
If i install a stock froyo
whats the restrictions on things such as Base Bands.. all can be used right? su660's BB's etc
um. also what kernels can be used. cm7 kernels or only stock kernels right?
on top of that. would you use titanium backup to remove bloatware. then use something like v6 script to speed it up.
also
what other ideas and things can you do to shave it into a smarter system
i like topogigi's froyo rom but hate the 2-3 minute boot time =(
Watch what you flash!
Hey,
DONT install any other Kernel but the ones that were made for what you are using. CM7 is Gingerbread or 2.3 and Froyo is 2.2 so it will bootloop your device. Also there are faster and more stable Gingerbread ROM's out there so I don't see a reason using Froyo, I suggest checking out gueste-2x, that is probably the fastest ROM for the o2x even though I'm using JB just because I like the new interface so much better.
Good luck flashing and stuff.
