Install pre 2.2 OTA with 100% working root 2.0 radio/720p video - Droid Incredible Android Development

UPDATE, you will have market issues, some apps will not show up. For a fix see this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728451&highlight=market+ota
READ FIRST
DO NOT APPLY THE UPDATE.ZIP TWICE or YOU MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE!
Everyone should know that if you apply this update and VZW changes the radio in the official then you probably won't be able to upgrade your radio to it.
Also if you do this you will not be able to revert back to stock until a new RUU is released, and the problem with a new RUU is that they may close all known root methods. If you try with any current RUU's you will get a "Main version is older" error.
The radio is very good and 720p will work but everyone should know this might prevent future radio updates.

READ SECOND:
In case the OTA comes out and there is something truly different, you can follow this procedure to downgrade hboot and install an older RUU:
http://androidforums.com/all-things...16-how-revert-back-earlier-version-hboot.html

dinc_ota.zip
Put the file from mediafire.com on your SDCARD as update.zip
If rooted, you have to RUU your phone back to stock. Download the image from the link below, put on root of SDCARD and then boot into bootloader(powerdown, hold power and optical button in) then go to bootloader, then it should load the img and then apply it.
http://www.mediafire.com/?yum40znzwmmmtyl
Boot back to your phone and apply the first OTA update we got. If you dont do this, you might get errors trying to install the new update.
Then go to STOCK recovery.
Apply update.zip
Reboot, then activate.
Then follow this:
(Mine got stuck on rebooting phone, I just unplugged my phone and then plugged it back in again really fast again, it seemed to work like normal just starting the UnrEVOked 3.0 with phone hooked up)
UnrEVOked v3.0 Is Out - ROOT NO LONGER REQUIRED + NEW CLOCKWORK 2.5!!! - xda-developers
Then one final step for now to install root again really easy.
Download this
http://www.unrevoked.com/incredible/payload-update.zip
Put it on your SD card, then reboot into clockwork recovery
Go to install zip from SD-Card
Choose the payload-update.zip
You have root again and busybox is installed.
Some reason UnrEVOked 3.0 didnt reroot my phone but doing the steps above will have you with the latest update and 2.0 radio with 100% working root and working 720p video.
Picture proof it works, drocapped the pic, so you know root is all good.

Cool
This sounds really dangerous to me and while I appreciate the warnings, those warnings show pretty bad consequences. I think I will wait until unrEVOked simply provides a root-safe version of the OTA.

Can't wait to try this when I get home.. nice work

Yea someone posted the leak file here, I thought I messed up at first because root wasn't on my phone! Then I figured it out so I figured I would post how to easily get root back on.

Might hurt you in the end
If the official radio version ends up being like 1.7 or 1.9 everyone who did this will be screwed correct? There is no way to reverse this once you have flashed the leaked radio.
EDIT: Haha ^^^^^^ you beat me to it by 2 minutes

Its not even just that. The update was a radio.diff file not a radio.img. I'm not 100% sure but I'm guessing that it just makes modifications to your radio, and not replace it.
If they make changes to the radio.diff it may not be able to make the proper changes to our radio because we are running a leaked version that already has changes in it.

Wonder if the update can be dismantled and only have the 720p added to the phones?

People should be able to get the stock recovery .zip, out of sone of these stock ruus so that wiping its not necessary... Redoing your entire phone is a pita... Much easier if someone can isolate the stock recovery file without messing with the data partition

A few have tried (including myself) and 720P doesn't work without the radio. It will show in the camcorder and you can select it, but if you try and record it will reboot on you.
I'll keep trying but it seems impossible to have 720P recording without the radio.

OP. unrevoked will root your phone for you. i'm guessing you're on windows. those extra steps are not necessary on linux or os x.

thank you for your info!
i didnt know i have to install payload-update.zip......

So basically we should just wait? All this is giving us right now is the 720p right??

it should also push out a new bootscreen animation and install mobile hotspot (haha..we already have wireless tether..) rumor is also that swype now comes into play as well.

So if I'm reading this right you're saying there's a chance that you could never receive another OTA update?

I guess I will just wait until tomorrow when the OTA is released to make sure future upgrades work.

can someone who does this ota and then roots their phone make a nandroid of it stock...i think i may have messed something up real bad and i cant get it to stop boot looping...

I'm trying to RUU but it can't find the file? what am I doing wrong

[ROM] [OFFICIAL UPDATE] LP11 Official ICS Update for VZW 10.1 LTE tab

Hey guys, I pulled the ICS update.bin from my tab and converted it into a flashable zip file. It must be flashed from STOCK recovery, NOT cwm recovery/TWRP etc. This file basically patches every system file on the tab, so the only way to flash this successfully is to go back to stock and update your way up to stock FE01. It doesn't matter how you get to stock FE01 as long as you are on it and are using the FE01 radios. Once you have reached stock FE01, Flash this file in STOCK recovery: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/20070269/FE01a_to_LP11d_update.zip
Now, place this file: http://downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip on your SD card.
Once you have flashed the update successfully and placed the superuser.zip on your SD card, odin this recovery: http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/recovery/cwm5/p4vzw/5/recovery.tar.md5 and boot directly into recovery right after you odin it so that the tab does not boot fully into the OS and overwrite what you just flashed with the stock recovery. Once you have booted into cwm recovery, navigate to the superuser.zip and flash and then reboot. Congratulations, you're running Official ICS with root. For those that want CWM recovery to persist after reboot, delete /system/etc/install-recovery.sh with a root file manager.
Of course, credit goes to ChainsDD for the superuser.zip used in this guide
And to pershoot for the CWM recovery used in this guide.
Finally!!!
I can confirm that this file does update the VZW to 4.0.4 with baseband LP11. LTE is finally functioning as well as front and rear cameras. The tab has a whole new feel to it. I haven't tried any of the root files here. I first wanted to make sure that its stable/useful before messing around with rooting.
Big thumbs up for posting
Awesome, thanks Kidserious!
Hoping Pershoot's able to pull drivers from this to integrate into CM9/10.

That's what I was most excited about...new kernel source and version. Up until now, all AOSP builds for the LTE 10.1 were based on the 2.6.38 honeycomb kernel. This new update brings us 3.1.10 and updated drivers.
Definitely will be cool.
Bah, had to go way back to an older stock image I had but eventually got back to HC 3.1 and upgraded back up.
Definitely an improvement over stock or even overclocked honeycomb 3.2. Going to be nice to get CM 10 someday.
This update is great..I'd say it was worth the wait, but since Jelly Bean is already out and soon to be dated I will not.
Thanks
This worked great! Waiting for a long time to get this on the LTE!
Woot!
Will be working on this today! Can't wait!
Maybe one of the great devs, can pull the modem out into an install file. Maybe the modem and cameras will work with JB!
Do you think we coudl use these files on the ota dowload from VZW?
Also, how did you get back to stock? I know I have Pershoots kernel, rooted and CWM
well, my dumbarse figured it out. for those that are dense like me, I used the Odin file in rylon360's thread on rootswiki.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/7718-romleakodineg01-factory-stock-odin-image-vzw-lte-tab-101/ to get back to stock, then I did system updates three times. Small one, large one, Small one. to get to stock FE01.
then followed this thread to update.
Thanks so much!!!!

anyone else have issue with Tibu restoring apps? I loaded my Tibu folder back onto the device but it wont recognize the apps. Tibu had the latest update too.
Does this wipe the tablet at all?
My fiance's 10.1 is unbearably slow but she's using it for work so I can't root it. Will I be able to run the update from stock recovery and keep everything how it is?
Yes. I updated another that was all stock and it retained everything. My tab however won't see any of the tibu backups I saved to my PC. Sucks

Did you get this working? I did the same -- backup in Titanium, copy folder to PC, ran through the process to upgrade to latest version and then copy Titanium folder back to /sdcard and all was fine. I've done this several times in the past as well.
I need to do some reading and figure out how to get back to 100% stock. I am pretty sure I am just running the OTA rooted HC ROM so i will need to flash the regular stock ROM and then get recovery back.
The tab was sooo darn slow before. Cant wait to see how it does after this.

Thats what I did, wanted to start fresh so what I installed was HC 3.1 and wiped data and all. Then I ran OTA after OTA until I got to ICS. Then I installed CWM from droidbasement (pershoot) and used it to flash superuser. Tab runs MUCH better than before. I'm currently running stock kernel and intend to do a CWM image of my current setup and wait for CM updates with LTE rolled in before doing any further tinkering with the tablet. I don't even feel the need to run an overclocked kernel at this point.

Ectiech. I have flashed my phone so much I can do with eyes closed. I have done tibu this way several times. Something must have happened to the backup I made because I copied the tibu folder from my cell running slimbean jellybean rom and all the apps restored perfectly from there. Sadly I had not played the games on my phone like I did on my tablet.

I returned mine to basic Verizon, no root. Took off clockwork when I returned to stock and let it auto upgrade itself a few weeks ago. Figured it needed to be stock
Copied over and then rebooted to standard recovery and let it fly. Didn't wipe anything. Everything is there. Proggies work. Haven't check cameras.
My tab was stripped...so didn't matter if I lost everything.
Hope my pic posts...hit 58 mbs. Download driving last night. I'm town tested speed changing towers, in upper 30s.

[HOW-TO]VERY EASY 4.1.2 to 4.2 update

One super easy way to go to 4.2 from 4.1.2, IMO. This keeps root and current recovery (TWRP). I did it last night. No adb, no PC, all done on device.
I had no issues doing this, but....if you do it's not my fault. You decided to to do it to your device...not me. I doubt you'll have an issue if you follow this to the "T". But by doing this, you agree that I am not responsible for any problems you may have.
1. Download the update via OTA or HERE
2. Must have TWRP recovery! May work on CWM, but I haven't tested it and don't know if it will.
3. If you have flashed a kernel, done the 720p camera mod, altered the build.prop, etc.... you will get an error when trying to flash. I managed to copy most files from a stock rom to get rid of most errors. But the last error was a partition error which I was not to sure how to fix. Best and easiest way is to backup apps with Titanium Backup, then backup the whole sha-bang in recovery. Then download and flash THIS. Make sure you check the root in Aroma....believe it's checked by default.
4.Set it up, then re-install apps with Titanium Backup. DO NOT DELETE, MOD, OR FLASH ANYTHING ELSE!
5. Download and use THIS. You should show "Device rooted", "Root permission granted", and "/system supports root protection" checked.
****Images below are generic from Google Images, may look different on your device****

Click the "Protect root" button, then "Protected su copy available" should be checked. All boxes now should be checked.
6. Boot into TWRP. Flash the update. (If you did the OTA download and cannot find it, it's in the /cache file. You may need to check mount system in TWRP to access it. You will need to mount system later anyway.)
7. It should flash without any issues if you followed the directions so far.
8. DO NOT REBOOT! STAY IN RECOVERY OR YOU'LL LOSE CUSTOM RECOVERY (TWRP)
9.Make sure system is mounted. Then go to Advanced>File Manager. Go to /system/recovery-from-boot.p and delete or rename the file (recovery-from-boot.p.bak).
10. Reboot to system. Then go back to Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper and click "Restore root".
11. You should be good to go. Doing everything mentioned updated me from 4.1.2 to 4.2, kept root and TWRP.
12. If it worked, and it should have.....please hit the thanks button.:good:
I'm trying this method now . don't know if it 'll be passed or not but Good Work  Thanks :good:

I understand.. I just try to help out and be nice to the new people who are legit struggling. We've all been there and it can be pretty confusing.. Now, don't get me wrong there are also new folks who use it as an excuse to be lazy and not actually do anything.. Those types are hard to nail down though.
Having issues myself.....try this for the OTA update. Haven't checked, but should be like an 80mb file IIRC.

I just flashed one of the rooted stock 4.2 Roms. Took a few minutes to download, reboot to recovery, complete wipe, and install. Took a couple of minutes to do the setup, restore apps with titanium.

Wanting to Unroot M8, don't have original image (1.12.651.17)

Hey everyone.
I've spent the better of the last three hours scouring the inter webs, Google, and these forums trying to find the answers to my questions - but to no avail (I've found partial answers, but I am afraid a partial answer could lead to a total brick). So anyway I apologize ahead of time if this has already been addressed somewhere else.
Here we go:
I bought one of the first Sprint HTC One M8's through Amazon. Here are the details:
Model: 831C
Android Version 4.4.2
Software Version 1.12.651.17
Unlocked but S-On (Using TWRP)
Naturally, right out of the box I rooted it. However, I did not save the original recovery image (ROM?).
--> I want to restore the phone to its original state so I can accept the OTA update and hopefully address the god-awful cell signal.
I've found a lot of stock recoveries online, but none that match 1.12.651.17.
Do I need to find that specific recovery (1.12.651.17) to flash to my phone? Will another one work (e.g. 1.54.654.13)? Or, is the recovery image specific to each phone's firmware?
I've never worried about saving my stock recovery in the past (been rooting since the HTC Evo days) but it looks like not doing so finally caught up with me.
Thanks in advance.
PS I did find something 1.12.651.17 related in the link below, but how to flash this to my phone (or whether or not it will brick) is beyond me. I've downloaded all 6 files and am waiting to figure out how the heck to get them to my phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2736048
I don't know if this will help at all, but here is a link to the "Nandroid" backup downloads, courtesy of Rydah805 (thank you).
https://
drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-_A25cR0bQFc1NxdHJkVTJsb0U&usp=sharing
(sorry can't post outside links yet)
I've downloaded all six but am not 100% how to proceed as far as flashing them to the phone via TWRP goes.
Also, not 100% if this will allow me to get back to "stock" so that I can accept the latest OTA update and (hopefully) fix my horrible connection issues.
I am usually one to do my research and then dive in, damn the torpedoes. However in this case I am thinking doing that could turn my phone into a coaster.
all you need is a stock recovery installed and you can do an ota
i was in the same boat as the OP last week. check this thread starting at my post #126 for some assistance from some members:

cell signal is 100% improved, it uses 3g more than the LTE spark but it doesnt drop calls or go roaming at random now.
hope that helps.

Hot damn that sure does help. I've been having the same issues as you: dropped calls, roaming out of nowhere, failed call origination, etc etc. I may just go the S-Off route instead. Thank you very much for those two links … I have about 24 tabs open in my browser with different possible steps in different possible fixes.

Right on … so any Sprint M8 stock recovery will work? I don't have to specifically get one that matches my phone's current firmware 1.12.651.17?

He's referring to the second link in my sig. There is a section in the guide regarding firmware updates. Towards the bottom of the first post is also a link to Captain Throwback's firmware thread. No need to go through the hassle of returning to stock to take the OTA if all you want to do is update your firmware. You have to be S-off to update your firmware.

Outstanding!
So basically to get my phone "up to date" (and equivalent to taking the most recent OTA update), I simply flash the firmware of my choice to my phone. The trick is to be S-off first.
Then, instead of worrying about OTAs I can just flash the latest firmware whenever it becomes available?
Thanks for bearing with me and for all the great info!

I have tried the firewater method 6 times now and I keep getting stuck at the same screen I attached on the last page of this thread. I've let this sit for as little as 5 minutes and as long as 30 minutes. Holding the power button for 60 seconds doesn't do anything (unless this prompt means I am supposed to restart the phone).
I'm wondering if the fact that I'm stuck at "………" instead of even getting to the "opening bottles" part means one of the following:
I have a conflict somewhere on the phone or my computer.
or
firewater doesn't work with my Sprint HTC M8
I'll keep digging around to see what I can find.
That notwithstanding, I may have to go back to Plan A and see if I can't get this thing unrooted so I can at least get the OTA and fix the #1 issue: horrible cell reception.
Thanks again for all the helpful input!
Another update … I used #firewater on andirc and the response from beaups was el-quicko. It turns out I was trying to install a version of firewater that wasn't the most recent.
So anyway I guess that's good information for anyone who runs into a similar problem in the future:
Make sure you're trying to install the most recent version of firewater! lol
Interesting developments …
Firewater was a success and I also was successful in downloading the latest firmware to my Mac. I had to select all the files in the folder (it didn't download as a zip) and create a zip file while also naming it the correct name.
Everything went fine as far as sending it to my SD card and using HBOOT method to install. The install went perfectly and I rebooted the phone, but when checking under the About>Software Version on my phone it is still showing Software Version 1.12.651.17 …
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
Software & firmware are different from one another. Flash a different ROM to change the software version.

I just read a helpful FAQ http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...1-54-651-8-OTA&p=299474&viewfull=1#post299474
Looks like the firmware updates but not the software version.
I'm guessing the same happens whenever someone takes an OTA?

If you take a OTA both software & firmware get updated.

Thank you Magnum! I just came across the FAQ right after your post. So I guess I should go ahead and flash a new ROM just to make the process complete.
Thanks again for the help - I'm sure I've already mentioned this, but your guide was extremely useful. In the past (original Evo 4g) I've always simply rooted my device and that was it; however, now I'm finally dabbling in the S-Off territory. Sounds like you can do a lot more that way.

Glad to help:thumbup:
S-off is definitely the way to go. I've had S-off on every HTC device I've ever owned and it's worth the extra effort to obtain it.

For sure!
I'm guessing there is really no reason to update my software (that's the RUU stuff, right?) As long as the firmware has been updated, I should hopefully see some improvements to my radio/cell signal.

won't update to 5.0.1

So I was on 5.0.1 via ota update before I unlocked and put paranoid android, love their roms in the past but not that great yet. Anyways for some reason I flashed 5.0 then locked and set my phone up and now I'm not receiving the 5.0.1 update. Is there something I'm supposed to change to make it update? For example with my HTC one you have a uid and model number. I put it back to stock Saturday and still have yet to receive the update or am I just being inpatient?

Need more information. By flash did you flash a stock ROM from TWRP? Factory image from fastboot?
If you flashed the factory image why not just flash the 5.0.1 or even on of the 5.1 images?
Curious why you don't just flash 5.1 since you seem comfortable with the process

I flashed the factory image through fastboot and then setup the phone and noticed I never got an update notice. Every phone I ever had showed the update right away so I didn't think it was a big deal to download the latest. If I flash through fastboot its going to wipe my phone right? Which that's what I want to avoid so I was hoping I was going to get the notification.

I've always done it to make sure I will get ota since I've already gotten 5.0.1 before.
So other than flashing the stock image through fastboot and locking is there anything else I was supposed to do to make ota to work?
If you would just leave the phone unlocked you don't have to flash over everything you can just flash what you need while retaining user. I've updated this phone 2 times and haven't lost anything. It's that initial fastboot that gets you.

So let me make sure I understand you, if I leave my phone unlocked and flash the full factory image it won't clear my user info or I have to wait for someone to post the ota to flash with out clearing my phone?
No you have to take the file apart and flash every image but the user. to make it easier to use the tool kit you can type commands or just let it do it for you.
Flash Stock pick your version no wipe mode

But if you relocked it then yes you're going to lose everything. Why I believe everyone should have a copy of titanium backup.

Your in the wrong hobby if u are worried about clearing your phone. I see people daily on xda complaining that their phone isnt working correctly and that they wont clean flash because of the time it takes to redo phone. Seriously? its not that bad of a deal. Set some time before hand to do it and move on. Clean flash and clean install and go from there.

Let me put it this way, I have to reset my watch every time I redo my phone and reset my Bluetooth on my car which doesn't listen to me but will listen to my wife. Now if I could switch Roms without resetting my watch like what I use to be able to do with beelink then I would be cool with it. I take the time every time to do a clean install, start as a new phone. I'm just making sure this is normal not to get an update that's been out for my phone for a month. I have had a crap load of androids and they have never not giving me an update that's been out.
If google allowed us to switch phones with android wear without clearing, I would be happy to flash Roms again but its just too much of a pain to redo everything right now which is why I'm going back to stock.

I bet a lot changed since HTC inspire 4g days but restoring Bluetooth settings just seemed to cause more issues than helped IMO. I use to boot camp but I bought a gaming rig for my other expensive hobby and had to move windows over to it.

[Q] How Do You Root Samsung Galaxy S4 Active 5.0.1?

How do you root a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Active on 5.0.1 Lollipop android? I have been looking around for hours and couldn't find anything. Can you even do it on lollipop yet?

You have to use Odin to flash back to kit Kat, root with towel root, and upgrade to lollipop with muniz_ri 's keep root update. Read the Firmware/Guide Repository stickied at the top of the General section
Or use the new doedexrd rom

If you don't know how to use Odin I would not attempt to do this. Odin is a very powerful program that modifies low level functions. You risk permanently bricking your phone if you mess something up.
All the instructions are there in the sticky if you still want to try, you just need to follow the steps exactly as they are written in the i537 Firmware Guide. The pictures show you where to place files in Odin.
Where can I download a sgh-i537 4.4.2 stock rom so I can root with towelroot?

Download link extract all four files in the zip to your desktop. Download Odin attached to this post. Also extract that folder to your desktop. Run Odin by double clicking the .exe file. Power your phone on in download mode (shut it down, then power it on holding down power and vol-) and plug it in USB to your PC. Now select all four of those files you downloaded; the names should be intuitive, but if not, it should look exactly like the following picture:

Odin takes a long while, let it do its thing, there will be at least one or two automatic reboots and a boot into recovery, all automated so just put the damn thing down and let it run its course. After a while it'll eventually boot into the setup wizard for kitkat, as if the phone is brand new. Great, it's now on kitkat, root it with towelroot, which is a one-click root application for Samsung devices. Install and run SuperSU from the play store. Finally you are ready to upgrade to lollipop while keeping root
Just want to give you an update you on what I did. I did what you told me to do exactly and the first time I did it, it did its whole process but when it rebooted it kept flashing the screen on and off on a one second interval. So I restarted, and then it got stuck in the "Samsung Galaxy S4 Active" Boot screen for an hour. Im going to retry a third time to see if it works.
Ok so i did it for a third time and it worked. I guess it just had to keep resetting or something? Thankyou, that was very much needed.

Hi,
I just did this method to get from 5.0.1 to 4.4.2 kitkat, I used all those files in your links.
My only question when going with Towelroot is, I need to either hide root from apps, or, unroot, after I convert an app to a system app.
My goal is simply to convert an app to system app. So I want to: root device, convert to system app using Link2SD(1 click conversion), then unroot. So, i cannot flash back to an unrooted version, as I believe that will rid the device of the newly converted system app.
Thanks!
