In "settings"-->"SD card and phone storage" you can first unmount and then format either the internal or the external SD card.

As mimocan said in his own thread, try gparted.

SD card troubles

i am hoping maybe somebody can help me i searched the Q&A and i can't find an answer i am using a 4gb class 6 sd card i partion the sd card and the Cryogen rom shows the partition unavaliable i thought it was maybe the sdcard so i bought another one and still same issue. the problem started when i was loading the JACXrom from the Cryogen 3.6.8. I noticed as soon as i loaded the rom my apps were missing. so i used paragon to re format the sd card and it still doesnt read the partion. then i reformated the whole card... and still no luck...anybody have any thoughts?

[Q] Question about external/internal SD card

Do I need to format those cards to ext4? I'm seeing that these cards are still fat32....
it is not needed ...
Is there a reason why it shouldn't be?

[Q] Internal memory/SD card question

I just got a new revo yesterday, and while poking around I noticed that the 12 Gb of internal memory is mounted as an sd card, while the actual sd card is mounted as a sub dir called _ExternalSD. Has anyone else noticed this?
Yep, you have 16gb internal and 16gb external
Yeah, but the point is that the internal memory is not being mounted as internal, it's being mounted as an sd card (with the actual sd card being a sub directory). I can see several problems with this, mostly with trying to transfer data. Or if you had a 32 GB card that you wanted to use for whatever instead, unless you can specify where a program stores stuff, it's going to store data on the "SD Card", which in this case is not the removable sd card. I guess if you want to transfer stuff you just have to remember to move it all the the "_ExternalSD" sub directory first, or you are going to plug your card in somewere else and wonder why there's nothing on it...
Not sure about your phone but mine saves to the real sd card. things i want on my internal memory, things i want saved on my sd card go to external sd card.

[Q] sdcard ext why?

i know its a pretty simple question, but it has been bothering me. Why did my card get split and when did i do it and was it done automaticlly when i put it in the bionic. Second why should i have it split up like this I kinda just wanna save all my stuff then format it back to normal. Any good reasons why I shouldnt and what I should be doing with it.

You SD Card is not split. There is built in internal memory and then your SD card which is the Ext (External)
It is weird they way Mot does this. I am use to the TBolt and they do not display like that.

Im pretty sure the sd card is partitioned when I said split i meant partition. If I go into astro or any other file manager I have to choices sd card and sdcard ext, but its both my sd card its just partitioned. Why it happened I have no idea I never did it but i know it not internal. My question is do all bionics do it automaticlly or did i do it by accident. Why should I keep it?

Moto partitions the internal card between system apps and apps. The sdcard-ext is your removable card (as he said above me) and you can partition it if you want, using ROM manager. Don't really see the benefit though...

[Q] Resize /data or move apps to USB storage

First, sorry, SORRY, for this question, but after two days searching in xda and google I could'n find the aswer. I also searched on FAQs (note and s2 FAQs) but I could't find it.
/data is only 2gb, and usb storage +-11gb. I know "USB Storage" is /sdcard/ and /external_sd/ is the external microsdcard.
Searching, I found that some people said that "Settings -> Applications -> [app] -> Move to SD" were moving their apps to /sdcard/ (USB Storage), but others said that their apps were moving to EXTERNAL sd.
In my N7000, apps are moved to EXTERNAL sd, not usb storage. I don't like this because SD is slower, so I ask...
-Is there any way to move to USB Storage (internal 11gb partition)?.
-Is there any way to resize /data from 2gb to -+7-8gb? (even if root is needed)?
-Will ICS update change some of this?
-If "Move to SD" move to "USB Storage" in some devices, what firm version are they running?
Sorry again for askin, thank you for reading and thank you so much for answers.
P.S. sorry for my english.
no one can clarify this?
to resize the 2gb you would need to find a way to repartition the device
and most normally go to the sd card ratehr than internal storage as thats how the apps2sd is made, you might have to find a way to hack it to use the internal storage rather than sd card
Maybe try to remove the external sd card and then start moving your apps to sd card? I think this way it'll go to internal since it'll be the only sd card available..

humm... maybe a link in "/sdcard/external_sd/" to something like "/sdcard/fake_sd/"?... would require external memory... but all data would be on the internal, so it should be much faster... humm...

I tryed it, but when I try "Move to SD" from Settings > Applications it says something like "No SD. Insert SD card.".
BTW, ICS will have the same partitions? I read something that it will be like Galaxy Nexus, without parition (and without USB Mass Storage, only MTP)... How is it on SGS2? I'm sure it will be the same...
