Topaz - Whitestone - Touch Diamond2, Pure Android Development

Morning all,
I have been trying with no luck to get the Whitestone added as a copy of the Topaz mboard. Is there someone who can help me get this added? I have been working with phh at the htc-linux room, but since he is a busy person this has not happened yet.
Whitestone did boot on a Topaz build back in Dec, and then a subsequent build broke it. It looks as though they are close in spec, so was hoping this would do the trick.
Thanks,
Steve

I could try to help given my time permits. The devices look similar in specs allthough the processor is different. It's the MSM7600 according to pdadb.net. Luckily the Droid Eris (Desire) is based on the same processor and it's kernel sources are available, which might prove useful later on.
At which point are you currently?

What I believe I need to happen is to have the Whitestone made a copy of the Topaz mboard in the kernel. If that happens I think we are well on our way. When the Topaz was originally added, back in Dec, the Whitestone did boot. The next cut changed something since the Whitestone could not boot again.
I have tried 2.1 and it dies trying to create on the SD card. I am about to try 2.2.

Time for some Imagio unlocking and roms!

I just bought an Imagio and will have it tomorrow. We need to get this forum rollin
im a big supporter of NFSFAN's roms after using his rom on my VZW TP and I hope he decides to whip something up for our phones !
Did anyone decide to give the mobile tv a shot? Looks like the kickstand on this phone was made for it
agree with the custom roms, man what do we need to get this goin? im really lookin foward to the coverflow on the new version of tf3d, oh and mobile tv works really well just needs more variety...
I just got mine this morning and am already having flash anxiety. I am used to flash my own cooked omnia roms with close to nothing on them. there is so much stuff on this phone that i don't want, thanks VZW.
So if we are able to get a Hard spl unlock we should be able to use any topaz kitchen as long as we use our OEM right?

LOL I know what you mean. I haven't even finished cleaning up from unboxing, don't have all my traditional apps on and tested yet and I stop by to see what's cooking in the kitchens already!
I am looking forward to using the phone though. I already seems much better than my Touch Pro.
Ditto here, I just ordered the Imagio today, and already wanted to see what was going on with ROMs lol.
I am wondering if anyone has contacted cmonex on weather or not she has considered helping us out with the HSPL. I am getting my phone in the Morning and I really hope we dont have to wait long. I will be around to help out with what ever I can.

There is a HardSPL placeholder thread now.
tethering to laptop
Hey all! Anyone know if/how you can tether to a laptop for use as a modem.. Kinda need it..
Imagio can tether
Yup, works great tethered, just go get PdaNet from June Fabics dot com.
Lets, go.
We desperately need to kick it up a few notches. Although I love my imagio there are so many good devices coming out that we need software and features fast. We have an ass load of potential we need this hspl so desperately I hope its coming along. I will donate the hell out of good developers.
Some things I've been thinking of.
We need to make this bad boy use motion commands, implement g-trigger or something similar cooked in.
We need to implement TFLO 3D Build 1920 and tweak it to run fast.
We need the a rom that runs stock, with only tflo running, to be at less than 40% of resources.
We need to be able to read and use 32gb storage cards.

haha.. well said!! it's weird because i don't ever remember a hspl taking this long.. is it because there's something new with the imagio? like some new technology that nobody's worked with yet??
Well, according to another user somewhere that contacted HTC they said that it was a unique device to Verizon so it could be that some time is needed before they can get this one hacked.

Yeah, I'm sure!
Yes, we need it. But what we can do is waitting
Well the folks at pccgeeks have posted instructions to unlock the CDMA Touch Pro 2... My understanding is that the Imagio is a "variant" of the CDMA TP2... maybe we'll see a ROM and SIM unlock for the Imagio in the not too distant future.
I'm sure when sprint gets the diamond2 (whitestone) hspl will come very shortly after. Should be next month, thought it might be November 1st, but I haven't heard anything. But is guaranteed to be here within Q4 this year.
For the 18 millionth time, the Whitestone is not the Topaz (Diamond2)!

I have heard that she is working on it as we speak and should have something in a reasonably short time.

Quick question about 'OEM' product.

First of all Hello everyone, I'm Luke and I'm pretty new to the windows mobile scene.
I've wanted a windows mobile phone for a few years now however price tags were not so appealing to me, but now I've purchased my first windows phone and it should be arriving tomorrow or within the next few days. It also seems that I've bought one at a good time as I'm happy to see a lot of development going on for 6.1/6.5 which is awesome - I like playing around with gadgets more than actually using them.
But here is the catch, whilst I've posted this in the HTC TD2 section here, the phone I've bought isn't actually a TD2. At least not an official one. It's one of the Chinese models found on eBay. I don't want a moral debate going on here - it was a bargain and it's my first step into using a Windows phone which I'm looking forward to for a decent price. It looks like a TD2 and the seller has claimed it is 'OEM Produce' however I don't believe him really.
What I wanted to ask was how will I go about flashing, updating, installing ROM's and the such on this phone? Will it be more than enough to follow instructions for a standard TD2? I hope someone here who understands hardware device and such will be able to clear that up for me.
The phone is using the same processor as the original TD2, and has the same resolution etc. Not sure if it has the same amount of ROM/RAM however it's being shipped with WM 6.1 so it has enough I presume. Are there any other hardware differences that will effect the ROM's I can use? Can I even use the same ROM's you guys are using? I don't care about the lower quality camera and less important things like that.
Thanks for any advice (sorry it was a bit long winded)
Please scroll down to see my most recent post! Thanks!
Thats is a very tricky question you are asking here.
First of all, nothing is certain or guaranteed of what you might receive there. After all, the product you receive will be a counterfeit phone, a fake trying to mock a real TD2. And as with any fake products you get the same quality issues. How do you know for sure that it has the same processor?? Just because they write it there? The same can apply to the RAM, ROM, Display etc.! It is in my opinion HIGHLY unlikely that the phone you will receive, will have anything in common (technology-wise) with the real TD2. The TD2 combines a lot of recent technology like that hd screen, cam and ram. What you will find underneath of yours might be a mash-up of older HTC phones like the Diamond or even older..who knows!? You can continue this uncertainty with the Windows that phone is running...it will be some homecooked release that is made to work with the components the phone features. As they will be different to TD2 as we have clarified earlier, the ROMs available here will most certainly not work ideally with yours....and i would be highly surprised to see a forum that will be dedicated to a fake TD2 lolz. Anyways, I think you get my point...I dont really see why you would ship yourself a chinese mock-up to start with a Windows Mobile phone...I dont, really. There are so many nice cheap hq HTC phones out there that still support 6.5 to-date. I have been using a HTC Excalibur (S620/621/Dash) for like 4 years and kept buying the same phone since then because i LOVE it. The quality is superb and it runs Windows Mobile 6.5 like a charm. You can pickup a brandnew unlocked one for $100 at the bay. Just a week ago i decided to upgrade and bought a new TD2...not here yet but same as you i am very excited Im sorry that i drifted off into a moral debate by the way
If you really want to embark on trying to update your phone you will have to analyze the rom closely to see what phone's ROM it is actually running. This will help you to find the according forum in here.
Good luck
I concur with vivid22, The internals of your phone will certainly be different to those of the original HTC build and as such you may have many unforseen troubles if you do flash the rom.
But if you decide to proceed with a rom flash i would be very interested to hear of your results.
You may also be interested in using some benchmark software and comparing how your phone performs compared to ours, maybe you can discover if the CPU is indeed the correct performance. Its all quite interesting.
Oh and welcome to the forums
Thanks for your responses guys! Very informative.
While I'm not going to respond to the most obvious statements like it being a counterfeit and it sucking etc in much detail because of course you are right! but I knew this when I bought it. The price is the real difference here and I don't mind if I can't flash it but I too am interested if it will actually work .
I'm still waiting for the phone to arrive and yes you both are right it has a very high chance that it is using different internals and I expect this, however the seller seems to state its using very similar hardware.
I will be more than happy to mess around with it, I guess I will dump the ROM first if I can then try installing some 6.5 etc - no problem trying I guess. I must say I've seen some clones from merimobiles.com (or something) with TouchFlo and I think even WinMo 6.5 but then again obtaining those ROM's will be a quest in itself. Not sure if mine is being shipped with TouchFlo, it has it in the screen shots on the listening but that really counts for nothing .
I have seen a few threads on these devices and their flash capability but not any with any definitive results so hopefully I can get the ball rolling. When I actually receive my product I will be able to tell if it is actually using the same processor, etc.
I believe you will find that Hard SPL will not flash to unlock your device.
Many here have tried with the same knock-offs.
Unlock in which way do you mean?
Network unlock? (assuming not)
Maybe worth noting: The guy who is selling these flashes the phone with the version of WinMo (language-wise) that the buyer asks for before shipping out. Meaning they can be flashed, however with what ROM's and what method I've no idea. Might ask him?
Ok if I'm going to poke around this I have two questions to ask that will help me determine things about the phone:
(They may seem very dumb but I just need to clarify)
1. Is there a way to find out the Hard SPL version without installing a new one? Like the current one it has.
2. Is it possible to get into the Bootloader no matter what Hard SPL version you have?

No, SPL unlocks the OS, not the SIM.
Bootloader mode is how you determine your current SPL.
Okay. So I should be able to (hopefully) get into bootloader and find the SPL it currently has.
Well I guess thats it until I actually recieve the phone, cheers guys I'll post how I get on for the people who are interested.
It will be very interesting to hear about it. hope you get what you ordered?
God luck
Well, I'm back, for anyone who is interested!
Phone finally came, snow over here in the UK slowed it down haha!
So, the phone is very good for what I paid, and very nice.
I'd like to go about flashing it though, as it's currently running 6.1 with SPB Mobile Shell. SPB is very nice, but I really like the look of Touch Flo.
Now while cosmetically the phone looks pretty close to the TD2, it has a few things like no front camera (don't really care) and the zoom bar also seems to do absolutely nothing. The phone runs as smooth as it should. It has no g-sensor as far as I can tell, shame but doesn't really matter.
All of this sounds like it has no chance, I think it even has less RAM than it was meant to but I'm not sure... But here is why I am still curious about trying:
Windows Mobile is reporting that it is using the 528Mhz MSM7200A processor.
That is what I believe the real TD2 uses, correct me if I am wrong.
If this means it is using the same chipset or what-have you as the TD2, I don't know. This is why I need help.
Really, what I am asking, is what kind of things can I look at in the phone to tell what I could possibly flash it with?
Do you think the HardSPL utility you all use will work with it? Is there even any way to tell, or should I just try anyway? And could that break the phone beyond repair? Is there a way to find out the real specs of this phone, because it may have been modified so that it read that processor name?
What do you guys think. I'm willing to try all sorts, I just don't want to brick it with no way of getting it back that's why I am just asking for opinions before I do it anyway.
Thanks
You will brick your phone for sure if you try a rom for Diamond2, search this forum for chinese ROM (I saw it somewhere on another thread in Topaz section), but watch out that you will have a clean windows without customizations includind TF3D.

Cyanogenmod or other custom ROM?

Ok, I successfully rooted and installed other apps on my NC tonight. Thanks for the great directions! This really makes it a great option at $249 over something like the Galaxy Tab. It still of course has all the remnants of Barnes & Noble everywhere. What are the chances that we will eventually get a custom ROM or perhaps Cyanogenmod so we can truly have a generic Android tablet? I just don't know how much something like that would entail and wonder if anyone can provide a little more info.
Thanks!
I think we'll see some custom goodies, but with everything so early on, I expect it'll take a few weeks before we see the big stuff.
I'm willing to be patient, I'm rooted, and don't mind where I am now, considering the NC hasn't even been on shelves for 3 weeks yet.

The only roadblock I can potentially forsee is B&N holding out on releasing the source for the NC.
I think it's hard to say without someone actually working on it. Also, we don't have many options for a factory reset now, so development can be kind of risky.

yes, because the drivers and kernel are needed
bg
The drivers are out there, and look to be the same ones in use by other Cyanogen targets (the TI WAN chip is in the AOSP tree already, the PowerVR SGX chip is pretty common).
In fact the nook color looks a lot like a motorola droid, from a HW point of view, IIRC.
Thanks for the info. This all sounds like good news. Really looking forward to CM or some other AOSP-style ROM.
B&N has released the source and the developers kit. Start hacking!

[Unofficial][ROM]CM7.1 Port to DS7....work in progress

This thread is in regard to the unofficial development of the Cyangonmod 7.1 for the Dell Streak 7. Absoluetelly nothing works. So a lot of work needs to be done.
First git the entire Cyangonmod 7.1 tree from them, and then drop these files into the device/dell/streak7 folder
http://www.mediafire.com/?q1w57v797u9p953
This rips the files from a stock Android 2.2 image, so you need to make sure that you are at a stock 2.2 image. My next goal is to upgrade to a stock HC and try making the scripts for that and see if it gets me closer.
As of right now, it boots "Dell" logo, then goes to the black screen with "ANDROID" on it, and that is as far as I can get it.
Look at the files, and let me know what changes I should make and in what script.
Driver wise, I believe you might be better off trying to backport the stock HC drivers.
GB <-> HC/ICS are more similar then eclair/froyo <-> GB in respect to drivers.
That's the reason it took half a year to hack together GB for the s5 and why it only tooks weeks to hack froyo from eclair
Rumor has it that dell attempted to port GB to the s7 before giving up, they lost a couple months at Q12011 doing that and likely scrapped everything, then they restarted on porting 3.1 then moved to 3.2 and that's why the summer was pretty quiet and why the S5 prob got no updates all summer
I dont have any substantial evidence to back any of it up, but the timelines all line up far too nicely, dell prob has only a single team for the s5/7/venue, the s10 is done by a different company.
Yeah, I am thinking I am going to try that direction next. Got a list of all the libs, now just need to re-write the scripts.

Cm never did honeycomb because google never released source
I've pulled a list of all the files I need to work with, now will be the time consuming part of checking the scripts to see if they are already listed and then adding the ones that are not listed.
Not to sound negative, but with Dell having released the official HC build and so, would people really use Gingerbread on their tablet?

I'm doing this for the same reason any hacker does anything.
For the sheer f*** of doing it.
Currently I am working on building a tegra2 2.6.35 gingerbread kernel.
Hypothetically, if he can get GB to actually work (and by work i mean functional with all the hardware functioning properly) he'll be a dozen steps closer to being able to port over to ICS.
I cant say that it would ultimately lead to ICS, but the documentation generated would help a lot (assuming it's all documented lol)
Documentation......I knew I was forgetting something.
Well, the easy steps right now will be as soon as I get it to boot using CM7.1, i will figure out how to git it up to Cyangonmod and have them review it. Currently I got the information I need to port to CM7.1, its just a matter of plugging that information in. The problem I am wondering is that the current kernel in their directory, I have no idea who built it or what it contains.
Building a working kernel is very tough since I have never done it before. Nvidia does have a Tegra 2 Gingerbread image built and a Tegra 2 Gingerbread kernel build available, its just a matter of me figuring out how to get them to work because I have never done this before.
So this usually consists of me doing the following
1. Run 'make -j4'
2. Get error
3. Research error
4. Attempt some fixes
5. Repeat step 1-4
The s7 is really similar the nvidia's vendeta reference board, and I think that's what dell tried to base their GB attempt off of.
(Also what cpu are you using? -j4 is small unless you're compiling on a laptop or something)

Actually it is the ventana (tegra 2 250) board as far as I can tell.
I've got a couple files that say 'init.ventana.rc' on them, plus 'init.streak7.rc'. These were pulled from the ~/ directory
I am in contact with Nvidia in regard to some questions I have but haven't heard from them in a week, they are probably slammed with questions all the time.
Just wanted to say, that nice to see someone interested and capable in doing something for streak7. keep up mate

Oh dont get me wrong, Its cool that you do that, its the same reason I mess around. I guess its just with Steve working on Honeystreak R8+ and ICS. Just was a wonder how many would use GB.
Too bad one can dual boot. Like have HC on Nand, and boot into a diff Android build on SD. Why would this be cool? Cause honestly.. sometimes HC can suck, least when it comes to mass storage mode. I could see myself using a dual boot at times to boot in GB with my streak 7. =)
the dell streak 7 has a Nvidia Harmony broad also could you not use cm7 Advent Vega as a base
Yes, I have looked into it, and in fact I've stolen lots of information from that build and put into into the build system I am working on.
So before I go on a holiday break, a bit of an update.
Bad News:
I started all over and started working my scripts. Currently its having a problem with my 'recovery.fstab'. Its saying its not there, but I FREAKIN KNOW ITS THERE!!!!!! and its written correctly in my scripts.
Good News:
Two successfull zImages built, one based off of Nvidia's 2.3 stuff combined with DJ_Steve's configuration, probably won't boot because its missing some drivers.
And the other is a DJ_Steve's HC kernel, but I asked him to check over some errors I got, even though it successfully built.
The reason why I built new zImages is because I couldnt' verify who created the kernel file in the github. The label on the folder was 'koush' but I asked him and he said he did not build it, so I have no idea who started the project, hence why I decided to build a new one.
So AFTER I figure out the recovery.fstab error, I will try out both of my new kernels and see which one does the job.
After I take a break.
I got several errors out of the way but....
The CM7 build is on hold, indefinitely. I am currently helping out with the ICS build and it takes a lot of my time and also taking care of my pregnant wife and two children. With the release of ICS, I might not even bother with it after this. And if I do, it will be a casual effort.
I see working on the ICS build as the assistant to a very talented ROM developer a a huge learning process and it is actually helping me become much better at making ROM's.

HTC Tattoo and CM9?

So CM7 was a stellar success for our tiny lil device called Tattoo.
Now that CM7 is over, we'll are eagerly waiting for CM9. I posted this thread to know if Tattoo is going to be supported in the CM9 builds. If anyone of you has an idea of what is going on, you can reply here. Also you can use this thread for dev purposes.
Others here, you can list out what features you want to see on out Tattoos running CM9. This can come of great help to the devs until the actual thread comes up.
So when many devices have got early CM9 builds, why not us? arco68 and KalimochoAz, you there?
The CyanogenMod team already announced that one phone which will not get the upgrade is the Motorola Droid because of it's outdated hardware. You know, Droid is really similar to Tattoo specwise. Same CPU specs, same RAM amount, same internal memory.....
You draw the conclusions.
pretty bleak future for us indeed. but the hero and the G1 are running early builds of it already. so if G1 can do, why not Tattoo?

Our device is MUCH less-powerful than the QSD8250, which is a 1.0-1.2GHz CPU and Adreno 200 GPU System-on-a-Chip.
if that is true, wildfire wont get it too.
My guess it it will run. But should be optimized heavily for a smooth experience.

I'm afraid the low resolution will be the show stopper there.
Maybe possible but it will be light version of ICS a few of the ingredients may be removed.
The screen is 2.8" n this is maybe the drawback...
I have installed ICS on G1. Its horrible ROM, Very Laggy and still needs lot of development for smoother experience. They haven't fixed the rotation problems yet. It looks to me Tatto0 will have a hard time with CM 9 because of its lower quality hardwares.
Tattoo is a 2 years old phone
Once we made it 2.1/2.2
It great already
And now we even have 2.3
What are we still asking for
As google told before
4.0is for high end
So let's enjoy the extra bonus that we get

Hey all,
If no-one is looking at porting CM9 to Tattoo, I could have an indicative look at doing it; no promises though; as I am doing it for HD2 at the moment, where I am spending all my time
I may have a go in a few days.
Although I may need some assistance with drivers and kernel later on

If someone wants to see my progress, then you can go to the following git repo
https://github.com/arif-ali/android_device_htc_click
and when I have a build it will be located here
http://cyanogenmod.arif-ali.co.uk/rom/test
So far quite a bit compiles, working on the wpa_supplicant part now. Looks like it may be a hack or need to look somewhere else.
I've had the Tattoo for 2 years now, but don't really know the HW much, so much research will be required. I've just installed nfinityGB, as and when arco built it.
If someone can give any input, it may speed up my work; and it will be appreciated.
Edit 1:
* Got passed the wifi, just got the drivers from gingerbread (for my notes)
Code:
cd system/wlan
git clone git://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_system_wlan_ti.git -b gingerbread
mv android_system_wlan_ti ti
sed -i s/LOCAL_MODULE_TAGS.*/LOCAL_MODULE_TAGS\ :=\ optional/g system/wlan/ti/sta_dk_4_0_4_32/config/Android.mk
* Need http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20737947&postcount=27 for compilation as well
Code:
unzip ../webrtc.zip -d external/webrtc/
Edit 2:
Good News; first compile done.
Bad News; it's 4am in the morning, and I can't be bothered to test
I have no idea if it is going to work or not, and if someone is really adventurous, then feel free to try flashing the file from the following URL in about 20 mins i.e. better to try 04:30 GMT to be on the safe side
http://cyanogenmod.arif-ali.co.uk/rom/test/update-cm9-click-20120101.zip
system is going to be 162M, and gapps can be downloaded from http://cyanogenmod.arif-ali.co.uk/misc/gapps-ics-20111128.zip
Personally, I won't be able to test until tomorrow now
Edit 3:
NVM, this won't work, our system is only 150M; I will give it another go later
