Will Galaxy S ROM's work on the other phones in the S line? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Aka vibrant, captive, vz, and sprint ones?
Other than the Radio drivers for (GSM, CDMA, whatever) i would think it would be akin to the G1 and the mytouch.
Similar hardware, multi phone ROM's.
Anyone have an idea?

why are you posting the same question again?

just bump up the old one, if you feel you have not gotten the right answer

Because I have not gotten an answer in that section.
Because there is no Q & A section like there is an the G1 section.
Because after a little thought, this is indeed a question related to development.
Because searching has gotten me no where.
This section of the forum is active.

Dream roms on Mytouch?

I searched the forum and looked in the informative threads and didn't find an answer to my question. Basically, I have the G1 and my friend is getting the MyTouch. I have been hacking the G1 since I got it preorder so I know about this stuff. I will need to teach my friend how to do all that for his phone. But will the roms we have now work on the MyTouch? I know it is lacking a keyboard and has some slightly different specs. But I am assuming they will work on his after proper rooting and all. And does it root the same way or is it going to be something completely different?
thanks

myTouch can not be rooted at this point hence your friend is SOL. Check Sapphire threads

Anyone confirm TLS when available missing in 2.x ROMS?

Been using Manup's 2.1 for several days and after a few tweaks it is rocking. Anyway, I finally got around to trying to add my Yahoo via IMAP as I have always done and "TLS when available" is now no longer one of the options. Basically you have none, SSL, SSL/cert, TLS, and TLS/cert. Anyone else seeing this or have a Email.apk that does offer it and works on 2.1?
wrong section dude
questions belong in QnA, even when rom related

So you say, but it hasn't always been that way, and it is this BS logic that keeps killing threads around here and why some are looking at other forums for answers. Very FEW look here to answer actual custom ROM questions (vs. things you could search for) and this just dooms these threads. It's a stupid reactionary response to all the newbie questions over there. Oh well, I will go ask elsewhere.

What happened to gsm and cdma development links

what happened to the sub categories of the GSM and the CDMA development.
I logged in today and only one.
does it not matter what version you have of the Tab anymore?

Less mess now.
ya i was just asking the same question. kinda silly that they removed them. i know there were some issues with honeycomb port and SOMEONE posting the same info in 4 categories unnecessarily. they should just make one honeycomb sub category instead of mixing everything up again. what a stupid move mods.

i dont think they should have separated them just because of one honeycomb port. i mean i appreciate what your doing but its not worth it to combine everything again just because of that.
cuz we will soon have a Galaxy Tab WiFi development
whoever decision it was, it was a stupid one.
i wish the moderators would change it back. it makes it more confusing.
cant one simply have one development forum, which shows all the development threads.
And then one has 3 subcategories; GSM, CDMA, WIFI.
And the creator of the thread can decide in which subcategories to display his thread.
Development - All Threads
|-GSM
|-CDMA
|-WIFI
I figured since there wasn't any development they removed it. Hmmm

[Q] Non-rooted Update for AT&T Cappy?

I posted this in the General forum & it was promptly closed & I was asked to search in this forum for an answer. Well, that didn't go so well as all I came up with was numerous posts of how to root my phone, which is exactly what I don't want to do. So, hopefully this will not be closed out as well.
I must admit that I tired of chasing AT&T & Samsung as to when the Gingerbread update would be available awhile back.
Then I saw an ad on TV that I'm pretty sure was for AT&T but another Android-based phone & they were hyping that the phone was equipped w/Android OS 4.0 so that it now rivaled the 'iCrap' phone.
Would someone please set me straight on which legit OS's have or are soon to be released () for the Cappy, or any new Samsung phone at that!
Thanks!
As far as Gingerbread for the Captivate well, Rogers released it for their i896 not to long ago, and so all we can do is hope for at&t to release it for us soon.
That's really all we know as far as the Captivate is concerned. This has been discussed over and over and that is why your previous thread was closed by the Forum Moderator.
As far as ICS...
Here ya go... http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...ream-sandwich-for-galaxy-s-and-tab-after-all/
As far as other Samsung phones, it would probably be better to find info on that through Google as opposed to here in the Captivate Forums.
I just googled it and found an entire page of articles in the past month or so with exactly what you're looking for. So so so much easier than making a post.

Thanks much for the link, which was quite heavily redacted )). Your point is well taken about just doing a Google search than posting here. Besides, I don't need someone telling me to go searching through the forum posts as my question has been asked many times before. I used to have a friend connected w/XDA that I could PM for scoops & ask questions like I posted here & he was always happy to help. Unfortunately, he's gone missing!

HTC One ROMs without GAPPS

I'm just thinking of getting such a HTC One, but I'm used to run CM-based ROMs without GAPPS on my older phones. Looking through this forum I see a lot of ROMs, but they all seem to be based on Stock or Google Play Edition ROMs which already include GAPPS?
Anyone here running his HTC One without GAPPS?
Any recommended ROMs with GAPPS as optional package?
while this is not a development thread you are looking on the wrong section you need to look here for what you want

Damned, that's what I feared, I had posted this in One Android Development, but a moderator has moved it here.
This is clearly a development related question, so I doubt I will get any useful answers here in One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting.

Of course you are right, my apologies, I indeed completely overlooked that One Original Android Development is the section I was looking for, must have been confused by the word "Original", making me think it was about ROMs based on Stock.
Looks like CM 10.2 is the way to go, great stuff going on for that phone.

The One is a Fantastic device with a ton of development going on .. feel free to jump aboard
At this point I would steer clear of a CDMA version though

That shouldn't be a problem as I am in Europe here. Isn't CDMA a U.S. only thing?
I'm after one to three phones for me any my family, it's either the LG Optimum 4X HD or HTC One, which we get for free from our mobile phone provider depending on the plan we choose. Going with the LG would mean 1/3 the monthly price but the HTC One is just too tempting, after all it should last the next two years.
