I'd wait til CM6 becomes final. 2.1 IMO just doesn't run well enough on G1's hardware. The speed is there, but apps get killed too easily for memory.

Well, I couldn't run Pandora and then check my email and do gchat. Pandora would shut off when I try to do other things. Didn't have SWAP set up. Didn't have this issue with 1.6.

is there any links please

There is a lot of good custom ROMs. Go check The Rom Bible and look at the ratings of every ROM there. You will find something good.
And I agree that Eclair is usable, but not to fast. You have to set up a swap partition to run it good enough to be a daily driver. However, you will not find as fast 2.1 ROM as stock Donut. G1 has too little RAM memory (processor is good enough). But something for something - if you once see 2.1 ROM you won't want to go back, trust me .
If you're looking for speed - check Dwang, it's very good.
BUT! Very much depends how your son will use the phone. If his gonna do a lot of multitasking and play with the phone 24/7 then he should stay on 1.6 or start reading how to really set up an Eclair ROM to run smooth. If he is really casual user then almost every ROM will be OK for him.

2.1 sucks for multitasking. My widgets update 5 minutes late on average and sometimes they never do and I have to open the app to get them to update. Horrible.

that problem went away for me as soon as I ditched all Widgets that required a background dedicated service.. rather than just using the widget API to update from application data.

Interesting.

If he's anything like my son, he'll be using the phone for messaging. I would definitely avoid Eclair and Froyo for now. No need to root it - stock 1.6 is fine for most everyday purposes. If he starts to want to install tons of apps, then you can root and start investigating your options.

lol that happened to me my first day having the phone >.<

it takes a lot of patience on hero I bought my 1st of 2 g1's with that ROM on it and just could not handle it to many hicups. I am sure it was not set up right after learning all that I have learned in a short time. still have hicups but am learning everyday. Best to flash cyan 3.6.5 or JF to start stable and fast ROM's.

Can Someone Port the HTC Desire Rom to the Vogue Please? It has Flash 10.1 Support!

I'm willing to Donate to get this done
here is the link to download the rom and also the kitchen. I know absolutely nothing about this stuff. I Hope im not giving links to stuff that is not helpful.

if someone is already working on this, Im very grateful.
Thanks Myn for pointing all this out
Ive had this downloaded for a while and expect if no one has it ported by the time I get my phone and my first build tested I'll give it a go. I'm expecting however because it's designed for a higher resolution that while I can get it to boot the resolution is going to cause framework issues.
I'll keep you guys posted.

Awesome. Thanks for your efforts! However, I am concerned about the speed/functionality. I doubt this will be usable on a daily basis even if it does boot.

Yeah. I go for speed too. All the nice extras you get with sense is cool but the speed and workability of donut is why I haven't switched to Eclair.
im interested in the flash support. I just remember when we couldnt pull the flash out of the hero properly without the framework, so i figure this wouldnt be possible either. I would be willing to try the rom if someone ported it though

Couple roadblocks in the way.. the build is designed for the snapdragon cpu. I've not been successfull in the past at getting them going 100% (sorry I didn't realize this when I said I'd be able to do it) and I've been working on my build all day..
I don't tend to give up on things though so I'll come back around to it in a bit.
Did someone say snapdragon? VZW + Nexus =
AFAIK the Android version of Flash 10.1 is ARMv7-only because Adobe wanted to limit its usage to high-end phones... And since it's closed-source, unless Adobe releases an ARMv5/6 version, it's pretty much.hopeless.

I've tried cleaning up vilords tattoo build, still uses a lot of space removed a lot of htcextras that I don't use need or want. but if I remove the wrong things I have problems still working on it though the most I can get is close to 52 mb free internal memory before I sync all of my contacts. This is why I was curious if you could I tried splitting the install I suppose I have to have a partitioned SD card to get it to work right I get a lot of I/O device errors

Yes, you would need an ext2 parition on your sd, and a custom install script to set it all up.

Is autokiller really working on Kaos Froyo (or any other 2.2 ROM)

So been reading through a few comments posted around the web and seeing that some users, like me, dont think autokiller is working correctly with Kaos froyo. My phone still gets sluggish until I kill some proc like before when I had autokiller installed on a 2.1 based ROM. I have already emailed the dev asking but waiting to hear back. Wanted to know if any of you guys can confirm this or not. Thanks
I'm not quick sure if it is working or not, but I do know that after a reboot that you have to configure the settings again, even though you have autokiller set to start up on boot.

I have it set as aggressive, I get decent battery life. If I have reception (at work, Im in a server room so battery dies very fast since no reception) I can go a full day with decent use.
As for my next release, I am planning to release it after Kaos updates his release. It wont be much as I am trying to keep it nice and clean but more blue through out it and a few new icons. Patience my child.

Thanks,
Installed and seems like this ROM is solid....no bug(s) yet....nice
Confused
This is supposed to be a blurless rom, correct? I loaded it last night, and def still has blur in it.... When I get home I'll have to see if it actually deodexed like it promised. Even Contacts are still blur...
I will say that it's FAST though..

All of the current ROMS have *some* level of Blur. Since we cannot bypass the Moto Kernel, there are some levels of base code that just have to be there.
Tranquility, Apex, zapX, and Rubix 0.5 were all built on the 2.3.15 release and then removed as much of the blur components as they could and still have it function.
Fission & Rubix 1.0 built from a base that came out of the Droid2 SDK which appears to be very stock Android and therefore, they are a little more 'blur-less' than others. Which is both good and bad. Time is showing that some of the blur components have some nice functionality that people are missing when they go completely blur-less.

This is absolutely true and was the same for the D1 except it wasn't Blur, but you can't build AOSP for D1 either without using the extract-files.sh to pull all of the proprietary components that make the phone work.
It's a basic truth about phone firmware.

From what I read you may want to do a sbf back to stock 2.2 then install this.
I am seriously considering installing this to test out but want a little more feedback from users as to any possible issues (mail/pop3 etc..)

So far, I've had like maybe one or two glitches.... sometimes after a reboot the boot screen gets left on the lock screen, so you can still unlock your phone, but you have to guess where the sliders are.
another is that the calendar widget doesn't work.
Other then those two, the rom is FAST, stable, and battery life has been great. Worth it to me in my opinion... It's not an ASOP "experience" though... it's more like a hybrid.
Like it so far though, it's my daily driver.
Edit: Also, this applies to STOCK people (running the 2.2 OTA).... I was odexed, completely stock..... installed this rom with ease: no wiping, no formatting, nada. AND it deodexed my phone for me.... LOVE THAT.

I have bought tasker aS well (the stock rom doesn't let the os sleep when gps is enabled so I bought it to turn it on and off for all my apps)
Now I like your idea of syncing every 30 but I use google voice exclusively. And the voice app. Does that mean if I turn off my sync I won't get my messages in a timely mater?

This rom also doesn't seem to sleep when wick is on. Am I missing something? Anyway I do see how this can save a lot a battery with the screen dining and everything. I had to wipe my phone to get it to work. Last time I tried when I booted every system app was force closing. I feel like this is a little slower than rubix but way faster then stock. Could be too the drawer just doesn't feel right. Too bouncy for me to use quickly. Ill probably go to pro launcher. But if I don't want to how do I customize the 4 apps at the bottom? Its driving me nuts

What do you expect? At least you should install the 0013d/2708 combo to get additional 15MB RAM, otherwise Gingerbread ROMs will be slow, especially when you enable swap. If you would like to try out a GB ROM on your G1 you should go with ezGingerbread or one of it's variants. Just my 2 cents.
i might get rid of the g1. I saw on youtube peoples were running fast but mine is unusable except to text and make calls and even those apps are slow.

Have you tried updating your SPL/radio and ROM? Froyo ROM is pretty fast.
the phone is posted for 10 times .
and I find that the cyanogenmod 5 is very fast .
you can try.
the android system is 2.1 .
well if you have the time you could solve your problem quite easy.
root, change firmware and radio, and install a newer and tweaked rom like Laszlos' rom or froyo for trout. these are quite reliable.
This phone really isnt slow. It all depends on a persons needs as a cellphone user. For me its perfect. I dont play games, or run ram intensive apps. As long as i can make a call, send text/mms and browse the web every once in a while im a happy camper. Not to mention Laszlos Rom is so fast, i feel like im on a newer device anyway.

yep. its fully enough for me as well. now that theres DreamTeams' Froyo 2.2.2. based ROM, it even more snappy and fast than was with Laszlos' ROM, except there's not yet notification powercontrol and reboot option at Longpress-Powerbutton, but they are working on it.
so should one do nandroid backup and try that mod as well!
