Touchwiz3 Launcher for the Spica [MDPI screen] - Galaxy Spica Themes and Apps

Repost from: Samdroid Forums
Finally Samsung threads on xda! On this occassion let me share my hack-ish attempt to make the Touchwiz3 launcher from the Galaxy S fit our spicas. Consider these as perpetual beta version as there are issues, but most of the gui elements now fit properly at first run of the launcher. No more re-arranging things when hidden behind the dock!

There are derived from rolle3k's ports of both the Galaxy S and i5800 Touchwiz 3 Launchers. Hence, two version to choose from:
Common Notes:
Added xml to make them more compatible with mdpi screens (specifically the spica), should in theory should still look ok in ldpi or hdpi screens also. Feedback on this please.
I've modified the default startup items on the deskscreen as well as the dock (see screenshot), notably the dock as onlythe messaging icon appears. Take note that instead of the stock messaging app, I linked to Handcent SMS instead. Testing out the option if handcent sms is not installed, it will instead show the stock messaging app.
Tweaked displayable area for List mode, last items should not be covered by the dock anymore.
No promises of being a better launcher experience than others .
Speed and cpu load isn't noticeably faster/ better (nor worse) than the original ports.
Issues with widgets with text still remain, icons lining up properly in the homescreens, maybe unresolvable.
No samsung widgets, an external issue?.

A. GalaxyS-based update 02.01
Updated some ninepath graphics, as a result the Homescreen Folder icon glitch is now gone
Tweaked graphic elements locations should line up better.
This has more locales than the i5800 version so choose this in case your language is included.

B. i5800-based update B02
Updated graphics to use hdpi version (originally ldpi).
Tweaked graphic elements locations should line up better.
This is multi-locales, but less than GalaxyS version (ex. no Swedish)
Smaller file size than GalaxyS.

C. OPTIONAL release: i5800-based update B02.test 1-line text for drawer icons
1 line text for the apps in the drawers.
Proportionally larger tiles/ icons than the Galaxy S icons.
The text doesn't scroll if it's too long too long unlike homescreen icons.
Also tweaked the List Layout more to lessen the area hidden by the dock.
Update name is TW3Launcher-i5800-kenshin-b02.test.1LineDrawer.apk, unzip using 7-zip.

D. [2010-08-18] Update: i5500-based TW3 launcher release
PREVIEWS:
Details:
Derived from launcher of I5500XWJG9 FW.
Corrected dock phone and contact icons to launch spica version of these apps. Was quite fcking hard to do. These are still NOT customizable.
Added some nicer graphics to certain ui elements. Optimized some others resulting in smaller file size.
Make app drawer bg dark gray, was blue.
Addded custom solution to missing samsung widgets item.

IMPORTANT PS:
I attempted to make this mod for the sole reason to make TW3 launcher fit the spica at first install. DO NOT expect me to update this frequently, DO NOT expect me to fix any errors that may occur from using this mod. Mainly because I'm not capable to do so. I'm not really a developer, just did this as test. Feedback is welcome though.
IMPORTANT PSS:
I would appreciate you to download my releases only from links I provide, and linkback to the original posts it was posted on. Don't bother posting mirrors or posting in other forums on my behalf. Thanks.
Please other mdpi unit owners test and feedback!
Thanks and enjoy!

Super Cool !
Thanks a tonne !
I'm not going to buy Galaxy S now he he )

Update: Test release (1-line app drawer icons ala i5800) see post 1.

This is awesome, I'm using it on my htc magic without any flaws. thanks

Nice. Great to hear from non-spica owners. Do spread the word. ^^

Great job! Works perfect on my Hero
Seeing as you've been digging around with the Launcher do you know if it's even possible to get the widgets working with it, if they were ported over?

Don't know how to do that yet. I'll let the real experts do it instead. If a port is here, I'll see what I can do.

do i flash in adb or in amon_ra ? i like the look of touch wiz.

Sorry for asking such a nooby question, but how do we install this? Should we flash it or install with ADB or somthing?
I'm trying to install on my Spica with samdroid mod.

I believe you will just copy the .apk to your memory card and have a file manager open and install it for you.. Make sure you disable the option that only apps on market can be installed on your phones settings..

This is installable. You can also push via adb to /system/app if you like works fine too like that. Or create a custom recovery zip and apply under recovery specifically samdroidmod recovery.

I'm not familiar with amor_ra recovery but i guess just put this apk wherever you apks in your recovery zip. Do rename into something shorter right? The stock name is "TouchWiz30Launcher.apk".

i dont know how to install the i5800 launcher....
is there a apk file?

Work great for me. Thanks you.

very true, as i designed it to be a replica of the iphone gui, which is as you say, just buttons. i just wanted to give it a go and share with the community. thanks so much for trying and commenting, i appreciate it. any improvements you would suggest?
i know its pretty lame but i think just a home screen woud be suffice
i think ur buttons are the cleanest and most detailed so i wouldnt change that.
ur iphone calendar like replica rocks.
so yea..just a home screen
It is greate, but i can see anything for picture
cool thank you very much my thème BS it identique icone
Gorgeous.
Nice !
How can I use this theme without MRU and only 1 contact page ?
Differnt layout
Work great, thanks. It would be nice it you could replace one of the contact with weather.
Perfect
Very nice work my friend.
Its one of the best and nicest I´have seen. Thanks for sharing.
The only problem I have is that I can´t get the calender as your print screen. I get always the default from the HTC P3300. Am I doing something wrong?
Hi,
Great Work !
Unfortunately doesn't really work for me (SPB MS 2.1.0.3363). I have a lot of Icons which have no Description. They are titled Icon 1, Icon 2, Icon 3 and so on. Perhaps i've done something wrong during installation ?
Thx, lagloose
OK
I found the problem. It won´t work with SPB version 2.1.2. It works perfect with version 2.1.
Thanks

Hi,
How can I move widgets? If I long tap on them they won't move and I cant find an option "unlock widgets" as in the standart theme of throttle launcher.
hope you can help me.
Luke
Is there a way to see more of screens or videos of this in use?
Very sexy!
I definitely would leave Sense if you get this one more advanced!
I optimized the programpanel and added a notification slider at the top (like on the concept-images) already; if you'd like to work together just contact me.

Anybody who is interested in my updates can download the new version here or in the attachments of this post. I included an option to unlock the widgets. Haven't found another one... (Check the screenshots)
Ah theres the "unlock widgets". Thanks for the update.

I could move the widgets without problem by tapping and holding until a dotted border appears and then just drag and place them wherever you like (same page or other page).

[MOD] Froyo TouchWizGTG Launcher (OUTDATED)

I ran across an awesome mod last night in the Captivate forums and thought I would share it with you guys. What is it? Basically, it's a modified/customized TouchWiz Launcher. According to its creator, gtg465x, it offers the following features:
-Landscape mode (270° rotation)
-Transparent app drawer background and no icon backdrops
-New fly-in effect for app drawer icons
-Removed text "Press and hold this page to add content" from blank screens
-Galaxy Tab specific code removed to reduce app size
-Enabled 16-bit mode for faster/smoother animations
Click to collapse
Another awesome feature it gives is the ability to alphabetize your apps in the app drawer (much like the Vibrant launcher).
There are currently four different versions of the launcher: (1) regular dock/regular icons, (2) regular dock/colored icons, (3) 5 icon dock/regular icons, and (4) 5 icon dock/colored icons. I personally tested each of these out last night and they worked great on our Fascinate.
Again, I did not create these and take absolutely no credit for them. My goal is to simply share what I consider to be an outstanding mod. Hopefully somebody else will enjoy the mod as much as I have .
Here are a couple of pics of my favorite of the four versions, the regular dock/regular icons TW Launcher (the two that are funky are in landscape mode):

*Again, all credit goes to gtg465x. He's the guy who created these for Captivate.*
His post with the mod can be found here. Here are his installation instructions .....
Installation (If you're a noob, I recommend using Root Explorer. If you're not, you probably don't need this installation guide.)
1. Copy the default TouchWiz30Launcher.apk and TouchWiz30Launcher.odex (if applicable) from /system/app to your SD card as a backup.
2. Delete TouchWiz30Launcher.odex (if applicable) from /system/app and copy this new TouchWiz30Launcher.apk over the old one.
3. Set permissions of the new TouchWiz30Launcher.apk to rw-r--r--. You can probably get by without doing this. Haven't tried it.
4. Important! If you are installing the new dock version you must clear launcher data to unhide the apps that were in your dock previously. Go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications > Running > com.sec.android.app.twlauncher and then force stop, clear data, and press home.

I recommend trying all four of these versions out. Hope you enjoy! BTW: You can bet your ass I'm gonna be including this mod in my theme very soon .

PWorks great. This is my favorite tw set up so far. I live how with froyo it implements Denver like preview, pinch on the home screen and it brings up all 7 screens, pinch in the app drawer and it brings up a preview of all pages for faster navigation
Edit. Here r some pics of the 5 icon colored

The only reason I started using ADW a while ago was for 270 degree rotation. Otherwise i use a very vanilla UI on my phone (plain black wallpaper, only 1 home screen, no animations or transitions etc - i know, boring).
This works with superclean 2.1 and had this come out a few months ago I bet I would have never used ADW. For me personally ADW feels a little snappier, and Ive grown to like that I can customize the qty of rows/columns in the drawer. But I bet some people will like this a lot. Thanks for posting.
Regular/Colored and 5Icon/Regular have switched downloads. Reg/Color should be with 5 icon, 5 Icon should be with reg.
Nice, TW gets better.

how did you change your app drawer icon? from my understanding that could only be done on ADW/launcher pro, is this ability now possible on this modified Tw or are you using some other app?

That's the way it came. Its the 5 icon tw
sent from my fascinating fascinate eating delicious froyo.
I'm using the 5 Icon/colored with a one-step Odin debloated/debinged EB01 froyo. I love the TW mods. But every time I exit from Task Manager, the modded TW errors out with a FC and randomly removes apps from my home pages. That is the only time it gives me trouble. I suppose it's like the old joke: Doc it hurts when I do this-- then don't DO it!
Really sorry to have to ask this, but I do not understand the installation process. The download link is a .zip file, not an .apk and the contents of the .zip file does not have an .apk to push so I am rather clueless as to how to approach this. I most likely overlooked something. Thanks to whoever points out my flawed procedure.
All the contents of all the .zips have TouchWiz30Launcher.apk in them......
I'm sorry. Thanks for putting up with my silliness. My mac only showed the contents of the apk I assume, including the res folders and xml files. It works fine on the pc. Thanks again.
No problem. Glad you got it working
would it be possible to have this posted as CWM package? I never had any luck with modifying with ADB or messing with system files
LOL....I'm surprised these links still work. FYI: this is just a tad outdated. If you are satisfied with the laucher, by all means use it. I would, however, recommend using CrushD's (more updated/funtional) version here.

[THEME] CM7 'Honeybread' Theme by haxzamatic/Themed Market 2.3.4 UPDATED 07/03/11

I've been using this theme for the past week and was surprised not to see it on the DHD boards! Anyway, this is the first real theme I've seen using the new 'T Mobile Theme Manager', and it's amazing work. It should work on ANY CM7 build, I have tested it on Phunky's build and it works fine. I will update the APK as per the original thread. Please direct any issues to the original thread.
The theme has not been created by me, all credit to haxzamatic and the original thread here.

I've been trying to find complimentary themed apps/icons/docks for the Honeybread theme and stumbled across this themed version of the market. With the high contrast blue and black colours, it really fits into the whole Honeycomb/Gingerbread feel. Once again, I am not the creator of this themed APK, all credit to 00.ante and his original thread here. There are a whole bunch of Market skins in there so definitely worth a look.
To install :
Download the Vending APK and copy it to the Android SDK TOOLS Folder.
Open Command Prompt, navigate to the sdk\tools\ folder and type the following.
adb remount
adb push Vending.apk /system/app/
adb reboot
Upon reboot, clear the market app cache by going to Settings - - Applications - - Manage Applications - - All - - Select Market and Clear Cache.
Open you're newly themed market!
SIMPLES!

EDIT: its not in a different place.
Ive tried it by copying it over in Root Explorer and still nothing.
Fixed it:
1. Go to 'Manage Applications', 'find Market' and 'Force Stop'.
2. Press 'Uninstall Updates'.
3. Reboot into ClockworkMod and install the Market theme you want.
4. Reboot and you're done
hey dude, are you going to update your thread with the newest version of that theme ? (alpha 4) - this would be realy nice.
Great Work
Hey Man,
Great work on this one... it's just beautiful... Just a few suggestions to make it better....
The Wifi signal bar is extremely easy to confuse with the signal bar, and I think the shape of the standard gingerbread icon in blue would fit awesomely...
Also, the coloured default contact icon seems to stand out a bit too much... again, the standard gingerbread picture there seems to be a better fit...
Just my 2 cents...
But this is by far the best theme I've ever used... Kudos..
very nice theme
but there a still things that can make better for the next update
maybe a transparent statusbar will be nice
and transparent widgets like facebook or calender are better
but all in all very nice

T-Mobile/CM7 Theme List App!!

Edit: posted the app in the Market with updates. Get it here: http://bit.ly/theme_chooser
This will list all current CM7/T-Mobile themes. When you click a theme it will take you to the Android Market or website hosting the theme. You can filter by free/paid/hdpi/mdpi/ldpi and search by developer/description/name.
I have been working hard at re-doing Liberty Toolbox into a ROM Toolbox for every phone. A side project with that was creating a T-Mobile theme list for inside the Toolbox. My project is getting so big I developed the app as a side app so I could avoid waiting so long on building. I decided to share the app that will be included in ROM Toolbox.
This app was inspired by THIS thread. Major props to maxpower47 for building the list.
The list in the app is pulled from data on my server. If you would like to update this list it's easy to do and will show up in the app instantly. The list is here: http://jrummy16.com/jrummy/romtoolbox/tmobile_themes/tmobile_themes.xml
Please let me know if you would like to take the huge task of updating the list (gtalk: [email protected])
BLUE = free and donate version
GREEN = free
RED = paid only app

-- Long Press the icon to show/hide search tool
- Long Click item
- Don't reload data on switching orientation
- Don't show keyboard when first opening the app
- Some other stuff
I like this idea, downloading now to test. I'll let you know just now how it runs on Oxygen 2.2.
By the way, the link you posted to the list of themes points to a XML file, not a webpage...
Edit: Looks like it works nicely... I like the way the search feature filters the list as you type, that's a really nice touch! Have you got any way to show themes added to the list since the last time it was opened?

Thanks for testing it out. I like your suggestion too! I will have to update that. I just updated the filter to include "By Developer..". it's bed time for now though.
Thanks for this! Works great!
Sweet!! Downloading now, thanks for making this!
This is very nice. Thanks for making life even more convenient.
Just 1 minor problem. Let's say I filter the app to only show "free/donate themes." If the the theme link takes me to a market link, then I click the back button to go back to the app, it keeps my filter settings and goes back to the same theme I left off at. This doesn't happen though if the theme link takes me to a post here at XDA.
If the link brings me to XDA, then I click the back button to go back to the app, the app resets my filter settings and starts me over at the top of the list. Definitely not a deal breaker but gets pretty annoying since not all themes are in the market. Is there any way for it to keep my settings and my place, if it opens the browser for an XDA link?
Works great.. really good idea Thanks!

I was running 1.0 (installed before the update yesterday), so I tested with that before updating to 1.1.
Both versions the filter retains it's settings on my Desire whether the link takes me to Market or XDA. Perhaps it's something specific to either your device or your ROM? Works perfectly on Desire with Oxygen 2.2.
By the way Jrummy16, I really love the 'transparent' application theme you put in... Nice touch! Unfortunately though my chosen interface fonts (Sansation and SansationLight) make things interesting, but that's not a problem at all. I'm off to get the donate version now.
Awesome, love it!
Two requests:
1. Multiple filters at once (i.e. Free and HDPI)
2. (this may be hard, too much work!) in app screen shots!

I'd also agree with the first suggestion, perhaps setting up the filters as tick-boxes in a list instead of a pop-up menu would make it easier?
I think having screenshots in the list of themes would make it look messy (my honest opinion), but perhaps an indication of whether the theme is located in Market or XDA would be nice?
Either way, I'm still finding more and more interesting themes to try..
Updated in the market with multiple filter. .
bad sss
thanks
Omggggg ive been waiting on an app like this for so long!!!
Thanks so much!! Im abusing it!
I had an idea last night that would make this an even more useful app, but it sort of depends on how it works currently though... Does it store a list of themes locally or does it have to download the list each time you open the app?
It would be nice to be able to see what themes have been added to the list since the last time the app was opened.. With the number of themes in the list already, it would be really easy to miss newly added themes without even realising it.
For example:
On first run:
Themes
Theme 1
Theme 2
Theme 3
Theme 4
Click to collapse
This list would then be saved to the app's cache, and on the next launch it would be compared to the themes currently listed on the server (perhaps by a unique theme reference ID or something like that?).
On second run:
New Themes
Theme 5
Theme 6
Themes
Theme 1
Theme 2
Theme 3
Theme 4
Click to collapse
This would allow themes recently added to the theme list to be shown at the top of the list until the app is restarted (or 'notifications' cleared, whichever works best).
What do you think..?
