TouchWiz for eris? - Droid Eris Themes and Apps

Does anyone know if the touchwiz 3.0 ui has been ported for the eris or hero? I know it has been ported for the nexus one, and it works on the eris, but it seems like it was ported for the larger screen that the nexus has because the icons seem to be too large.

hey.. i have the touchwiz ui on my eris and it works very well
no root required just go to the link
just look for
touchwiz3 launcher for the Spica
i hope this works for you

Works great and display size seems pretty on point. Thanks for the info.

Use the mirrored download links near the bottom of the OP.

Here is the apk for direct download on to your Eris

can you customize the 4 on the bottom yet? I cant find how. BTW thanks for the link. It actually runs pretty smooth. I kinda like the interface as well as LP but need to be able to customize it.

Ok cool... only down side is if you use something like apps organizer (like I do) which creates shortcuts to app groups. You cant put one down there cause, although it uses shortcuts, they are not in the app drawer.

App dock...

does anyone know of an app/modification (metamorph?) that will allow us to "dock" some apps so that they are accessible in every screen?
not like a widget that pops up a carousel (like some apps offer)...
i mean more like the "star" of favourite apps/docked apps that is accessible on every screen in open home..for those of you who have used it
it's to the far right on every home screen, you swipe the star and you have like 6 apps (or so) accessible....
any ideas? thanks!
Anderwebs ADW launcher sounds like something you are looking for:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645550
HelixLauncher also does this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645683
I would have to say that Anderwebs launcher is quite superior to helix in performance, but they are both great launchers.
Thanks for the quick replies!
Helixlauncher almost looks like a home replacement from the descriptions...
I do want to keep my regular home app..since it has 9 screens
I just wanted to add the two main things I liked from alternate home apps
I.e., the app dock...and if I can find it, a way to "name" each home screens, on the bottom, next to the app drawer icon...
I'll test out the first option to see if it has an app dock without modifying my app drawer icon, hehe

Helix can have 9 screens too.
Hehe..thanks...but I guess I'll just stick to keeping my most used apps on the main screen and if I am on screen 9 and need to get to screen 5, I'll just hit the "home" button again, hehe
But I do have another modding question...I am kind of highjacking my own thread, hehe
is there a way to add the "dots" that indicate which screen you are on to either side of the app drawer icon? (Like screen 5 would have 4 little dots on each side?)
...or failing that, a way to label each screen? (Apps, games, etc...)
I saw one app that did this...but it had horrible reviews...so any app or personal way to modify it would be great...thanks again!
Definitely try out the ADW launcher... it has more customizer than even you would know what to do with!
http://www.jbthemes.com/anderweb/adwlauncher.html
it does look/sound good...
however, if you have to install it the same way you flash a rom, i don't think i can do it as my bootloader is locked...(telus milestone)
any instructions on the actual "flashing" part? the only ones i see is to change the zip file to "update.zip" and apply it from recovery mode, but it says invalid signature when i do that and then does nothing...
or can i just install the launch.apk file in the zip?
LauncherPro is faster than ADW.
It's just that you can't set your own app dock, there's one provided for you, it's shortcuts to Phone, Contacts, Messaging and the Browser.

if you're looking for some serious customization, look for sweeter home on the internet. it's in beta (for like 1 1/2 years now) so it's not on the market but i had fun fooling around w/it. it's basically a home replacement app that you design yourself from the ground up. kinda steep learning curve at first but you can always download someone else's theme and keep it or even tweek it how you like. there's even forums too if you need help.
http://www.sweeterhome.com/
maybe i'm way off target, just thought it would interest you
thanks, i'll check it out...
but i wasn't originally looking for a home replacement..i had open home before (and this one might be better) and I just didn't like the "bulk" of having an extra home app
thanks again though, i'll still give it a shot, hehe

ADWLauncher has tons of extra features, and they're all toggle-able. If you don't like the dock, turn it off in settings. Want more screens? Settings. Want the Galaxy S drawer? Settings. Want the home screens to scroll faster? Settings.
hehe
i know
but the problem is i can't find a way to flash it on the milestone...
i'm looking for a tutorial or someone that has successfully flashed anything to the milestone =-\

You can now download adw.launcher from the market for an easy install
I may be way off-base here but my wife is using "Open home" on her Cliq (because she couldn't stand MotoBlur's ugly UI) and it has everything that you're looking for: Number of screens, workspace labels, dock, dots, etc) and it seems like it's running OK on her phone. I know that it's a "replacement" home but it shouldn't be a problem on the phone with some spare RAM (i.e. any phone except for G1 and original MT3G)
Good luck.

Menu pop-up buttons - theme

How do you theme the (6) icons that pop-up when you press the Menu button ? I'm referring to Settings, Search, Add, Wallpaper, etc, etc. The images don't appear to be in framework-res.apk. I've looked in a few other folders/files with no luck so far.
And if anyone knows where to get replacement images, can you please point me in the right direction ?

I believe they are in the vendor.apk and if you have a launcher like launcherpro you'll also have to them those as well.
No idea where to get custom images except from other ROM's or themes from those that have taken the time to colorize or otherwise theme the menu options. Hope it helps some.
I found a "vending.apk" but not the images that I was looking for. I'm using ADW too, by the way.

Sorry my bad, vending is for the settings menu, the images you are looking for are in the framework-res.apk, they begin with "ic_menu_", sorry for the mis-info
No need to apologize I'll look through there again. I've found "ic_menu..." images in there before (in 'drawable-mdpi' ?) but not ALL of them. Of course, there's over 700 to look through.

Other apk files contribute to that menu, depending on the app you have open. They all should start with ic_menu... Are you wanting to theme just the home screen? If so, some are in framework, settings and adw. If you need some help, send me a pm...

Yes, just the home screen at this point. I did find some of the images in framework-res.apk and I suspected the the launcher app must change things too. That's disappointing because when ADW updates, I have to change/update the image(s) again.
With your experience Macrodroid, how practical is it to take the existing images and edit them with The Gimp, for example ? Can I change the 'object' color and the background (easily) using that ?

I use paintshop pro to edit images. Gimp should work about the same. I also use 7-zip to edit the apk's.
As far as updates for adw goes, just save the images you change in a folder on your PC. When they update, pull the apk from your phone, open the drawable folder for the images, copy your images to the apk and save it. Resign the apk when your done and push it back to your phone. Or, if they don't change the filename on you, you can create an mm theme with a lit less hassle. If you need some help setting anything up, drop me a pm... I'll be more than happy to help you out...

Gingerbread Launcher2 APK

This is just the Launcher2.apk with a few Gingerbread icons. This goes great with this mod:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863860
Rename the file to Launcher2.apk and copy it to /system/app using root explorer.
This just changes the phone icon, web browser icon and app icon in the dock.
Enjoy!
Edit: Added screenshot.

The one on the market worked for me with the tw dialer.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/gingerbread-launcher/com.modaco.android.launchergb
I also tried the one from the market under "Gingerbread Launcher" and it installed perfect. Once I clicked the home button it asked which launcher to use, I mainly use launcherpro since it seems you can tweak things a little more but I checked it out and it kept my same background image. I did NOT uninstall the stock launcher in Perception so I had 3 choice to pick. Looks pretty cool though, I may stay with launcherpro though due to setting it up different with whatever buttons I want to use at the dock.
Cog'd Perception or Cog'd 2.3b6 depending on my need for flash addiction
icons
Just download the icon pictures and then edit right on your phone, then put them in your dock. So easy even a caveman could do it.

I "modified" this application for my personal use with the intention of integrating the sense interface style.
You Can Create labels with a long home shortcuts click on your Android home with sense interface, you can set your labels, save and import settings, change icons (sense original an other icons) to the labels, set bookmarks, multilanguage support, and more.
I hope you like it and enjoy
NOTE: Only tested on 480 x 800 dpi
Donations:
Donations are welcome. I don't do this for money, but feel free to donate if you find my work useful.
NOTE: This application is free and can be downloaded from the market, the changes that I make are not with any purpose of profit ... I do not need
MOD EDIT: To post modified apps here at XDA, you must:
1) Give the title of the original app
2) Give credit to the original dev
3) Have permission from the dev to post edits of their work

Very nice app man! It's what i was looking for weeks!
Thankyoouuu!!
thank you verry much!!!!!!
ich love this app!!
great app,one thing though, could you please make the icons for the folders appear at the same height as the normal sense ones? For example the internet icon from your app is a bit higher placed on the screen than the normal sense one.
Edit: Found the bug, if you add the folders to homescreen from within the application the icons are placed jsut right,if you add them from android homescreen they appear missplaced.
And one mroe thing, how to i add bookmaks?
Works great with my htc wildfire!
Thanks man!
can u make an option to remove the name of the label i like to just see the icon with no name under it
thanks a lot for this useful app.installed for 3 days.it is so great.

Lockscreen help

Hey guys I need your help.
So far, I've been wanting something to the equivalent of CM7's lockscreen (because it has no "background" to it.) I want to change my LCD density so the screen is a 'higher' resolution, and the stock Droid 3 lock screen looks like crap when I change the LCD density. No I don't want to use CM7 right now (no offense Hashcode) I love CM7 but I need all my phones features. I would prefer to stick to a base lock screen and not use an add on app (for speed and memory usage.) So if anyone knows a .zip file that will take care of my lock screen, or an app that will replace my lock screen ( not cover it up) I will be very thankful.
Cheers,
Chaotic
just curious as to the point of a "higher density" look outside the native res?

Are you asking what it looks like? I'm assuming you are, so depending on how low you set the density. (lower means higher "resolution" for some reason) I set mine to 190, stock is 240, and everything is crystal clear, no display problems, and the apps and widgets take up less space (more apps per page for me is a plus) I honestly love it, the only problem is the lockscreen background (slider and volume switch) doesn't match up at all.

Haven't tried myself to rise the density. So I'm not sure if it works, but you can try with a third party lock screen, like widgetlocker, lockbot, or agile lock)

Yeah I've tried 2 of those. The only problem with that is those aren't built into the framework of the ROM. I want something that works 24/7, instantly after startup, screen lock, etc. I'll try agile lock as I havent used that yet. Thanks for the suggestions!
On HTC phones, the default lockscreen isn't built in to the framework too, i consider it a plus as you can get back the AOSP lockscreen just uninstalling the apk.

Hmm. Interesting.. Well the best lockscreen replacement app I've found is widgetlocker, because it uses root to actually "replace / remove" the stock lockscreen.

Surely is the one with the best features (eg. you can slide to unlock, or add a flashlight slider) lockbot is slow (at least it was when i tried it), agile is nice if you like the sense stile (and I'm not one of them), btw agile has a nice feature: it overcome one of the most annoying things on the default motorola home (unlike any other launcher app,if you install an alternate launcher you loose the ability to launch it)

You can get apps off of the market, I use Rom Toolbox (got it off of the internet because I didn't want to pay) or you could search Density Changer. Theres tons of apps on the market, and don't set your density below 180 (at that point everything is too small to read). I use 190 - 200..
I found where the lockscreen background is located..
On /system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi.
Its called zz_moto_lockscreen_sd_door.png
and another with _land.png after "door".
Is there a way to remove this without destroying my phones integrity?
Open it up in Photoshop, GIMP, or any other image editing program that accepts transparent backgrounds. Then all you do is select it all, and erase it.

The only problem with that is the fact that all the files are in the framework-res.apk file. I have no idea how to pull the file out and then put the modified file back in. I was using root explorer to find it..
Edit : Oh and root explorer only has the option to extract the file when I long-press it. No deleting or other options.

Copy the framework-res.apk and paste it in the root of your SD, then put it on your PC and unzip with 7zip. When you're done, Zip it back up and rename from .zip to .apk
Thank you so much! Haha I'm new to android so I have a pretty large learning curve from all the days of hacking my and my friends ipods/iphones.
Sorry, another question, would I have to use ADB shell to push the file back onto my phone, or is it safe to use root explorer to just put the file back into it's place?
Nevermind guys. I just flashed Liberty, and it has all of the stuff that I need. So if the mods want to lock this thread or leave it open for future purposes, its on you. Thanks for everyones help!
