Hello there,
It seems to me that I need to root my N1 2.2 in order to get RTL languages readable. My question is that is there a way to do that without rooting? If no is it possible to only do it without *flash* my ROM just root access? Yes = How
I am not asking for a specific language as I need the answer for 3 oh my friends who needs Farsi, Arabic and Hebrew ..... Any thing please
RTL
The answer is both yes and no.
If you don't want to root you phone, there is an app (I wrote it ) called persian browser that you can see persian/arabic sites on it but only on Android 2.2.
if you want/can root your phone, the first this I can suggest is to root it without voiding your warranty (without unlocking the bootloader) it is a little hard to do that but it is possible, after that you don't need to flash a new rom and by adding the update for RTL languages (A project at google code called arabic android) you can fix RTL problem and they are keyboards on the market that you can get and use at least for arabic and persian. but you still need some tweaks, for example for persian you need to replace system fonts because one of the letters are not showing up correctly.
So, if you don't have time for these, just get my app it is just a temporary solution until android 3.0 came out.
Thanks for the reply but I believe your app only work with Farsi not all RTL languages however I like the idea of root but not void warranty Can I do that?????
So basically I have to change the font only and everything will work fine.
As for the Arabic one in Google code, I have no idea about Arabic but my Arab friend told me he has to flash it with custom ROM and has to pay 7 bucks for activation or something is that right?
RTL
yes, you need to flash, but it is not a ROM its just an update to some libs, and I didn't see any activation fee, maybe its for keyboard app or something.
refer to this post for rooting without unlocking bootloader:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710842
and yes, my app is for persian/arabic, maybe other people can write the same fix for other langs.
To make Arabic and Hebrew readable (in anything but Gmail's headers), you don't need anything. They're already readable in 2.2. You need something only if you're looking for RTL direction (alignment to the right) in messages, Gmail etc.
AnySoftKeyboard will allow typing them.
By the way, wrong section. This thread doesn't belong in Development, but in Q&A.
Rooting
Well, wondering around, found this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736271
and easy easy way to root your phone without voiding warranty and without cutting battery or do any phony stuff. I love this openness of Android that let people do this amazing things.

I already unlocked my bootloader but it seems interesting I will try it with one of them and hope I find a specific lib for each language to add it to their N1
Used it on my nexus s running zuluzulu 1.3.1. THANK YOU works perfect

hi again
will be a mixture of hint and lecture (aka advice):
the hint is, valkyrie is the rom but not the chefs name, thats agent
the advice is: search first in the specific rom thread to check for soultions from other users facing he same problem (rest assured you will find answers)
second is, if your search turns up nothing ask in the respective rom thread instead of opening a new one, best chance to get an answer as all familiar with the rom and its tweaks will read it
cheers

Hi guys,
Maybe I missed something but after few searches I couldnt find an answer.
Is there any way to get Romanian language prediction in Swype?
Maybe a CSC change or.. install a different version of swype from another ROM..?
I have an idea but not sure about the correct way to follow.
Can someone give me a hint?
Thanks a bunch!
Hope this helps!
It has all languages!
Go to www//4shared//com/get/26YCldWS/Swype_160368214_HVGA.htm
P.S. Sorry moderators for violating rule (To prevent spam to the forums, ALL new users are not permitted to post outside links in their messages. After approximately eight posts, you will be able to post outside links. Thanks for understanding!) Had to help him
The file is gone. Any update?
Hey Cezar,
If you still need Romanian language support for your Android phone I can give you step-by-step instructions. Let me know.

Can I get the file even if I'm not Cezar? I need the Romanian dictionary. The auto-correct crap to pop Romanian words.
Install new Swype (even on phones with Swype preinstalled)
1. Go to http://beta.swype.com/ and register in order to download the latest beta. (it works just fine)
2. Although they caution that if you had Swype preinstalled this will not work, there is an elegant work around.
a. If this is your case (most Samsung phone do come with Swype preinstalled) you need to have your phone rooted and Titanium backup installed
b. Freeze the original, preinstalled version of Swype with TB and reboot the phone
3. Install the Swype installer you’ve got using the method suggested above and follow the instructions. Once installed, Android sees the new Swype as an update to the original version.
4. Go to Swype settings and download whatever dictionary you wish (including Romanian and many, many others) - this is actually the main (and I should say very important) difference between the stock / after-market versions of Swype - the first comes with only a few pre-installed dictionaries without the ability to expand, while the latter offers a lot more choices and the versatility of downloading/installing the language(s) of choice.
That’s it. It works like a charm and the Romanian dictionary is quite comprehensive – although it takes some practice in using the diacritics (you have to swipe through the “-“ sign for l-au, m-au, etc.)
Thank you very much. I was able to update & to install Romanian. It works pretty nice.
Hi,
I've asked a couple of times in the past how to get the htc touch input chinese module on a phone using the new 2.2 ROMs appearing on this board. I'm running the stock rooted ROM 3.15.405.3 but it only includes European keyboards.
GOAPK.com, the Chinese android developer site, has a new ROM for 2.2 out as well which includes the keyboard and handwriting recognition I want, its called htc_cime. My question is how to extract just the IME files and add them to an existing installation as a zip or apk, or how to include the files and add them to the ROM to install from ROM Manager.
I've found an APK under the \system\app\HTC_IME.apk of the GoAPK ROM but it won't install on its own... I get a warning saying that "This is a system application, do you still want to replace it" but it fails saying "Application not installed". Is this the right file? What am I doing wrong, where are the IMEs stored inside a ROM? This file isn't present in any of the other ROMs, so I guess it might not be the right one.
Files:
The download page for the whole GoAPK ROM, you need to register and post before you can download. Their BBS is as annoying as their ROMs are...
http://bbs.goapk.com/thread-34891-1-1.html
Link to the APK I extracted from that ROM
http://www.fileshost.com/download.php?id=B0F7369B1
Let me know if I should post any more information. There have been a few people asking for this in various forums, would appreciate learning to do it so I can teach others!
Why bother... Asian FroYo OTAs were released recently...
Mainly because I don't want to lose root. The only way to get an OTA is to unroot and downgrade to 1.31, correct? Or are there rooted Asian OTAs around somewhere?
There are several posts lying around explaining how to apply OTA updates and stay rooted... I think I wrote one myself...
Edit this file system\customize\MNS\default.xml in your rom.
<function name="default_IKB_settings_checked">
<set name="single">
<item name="checked_list_latin">English;Handwriting;CangJie;PinYin;Stroke;</item>
</set>

Hello, i am new to the world of custom ROMS. I followed this great guide and i installed to my IncS this ROM.
Everything works fine so far, but when i install Morelocale2 to switch to my native language, not everything is translated. Some words/phrases remain in English.
When i was on Icecream and Sense 3.6, i also had morelocale installed and every word was translated to my native language.
How can i solve this problem?

Thank you for saying my guide was great and am happy you managed to successfully achieve S-OFF or wherever u stopped.
But to answer your question i think this is more of a ROM related issue. You might want to talk to interaser about it and ask him.

Hi guys.
I know our note's latest JB rom has almost languages and locale to choose but not all.
I'm learning Japanese ,so I want to change my note's locale into Japanese so my phone's languages will become Japanese.
but the N7000 rom does't contain Japanese because They has own Japanese version.
,so I've downloaded Japanese note's rom from Samfirmware but I can't extract it.
Can anyone teach me how to pick language pack from Japanese stock rom and put into any custom rom in xda?
More locale doesn't help this
Please teach me or give me some links so I can learn about this.
Thanks to every one.:good:
Adding languages to another Rom is possible (I did in my Custom Rom).
But here is a completely different Rom for a different CPU (in the "Docomo Note").
No chance to extract japanese there and add it to our Roms.
Thank you for your answer.
How about translate it manually? such as we have English UK and US and translate eng uk to Japanese word by word?

Yes you can do that - if you work 8 hours a day the next two years you might have a preview of a translated Rom.
I think this isn't practicable.
And: where are possible users? Why should anyone in Japan buy a N7000 and make a request for Japanese.

You can't "add" them in a simple way. It means a complete rebuild of the Rom (including decompilation of all apk). I made some batches and use some tools to simplify/automate this - but even then I need about 3 days for a complete build of an all-languages-Rom starting from the original JB releases. It's ugly idiotic and stupid work.
And now the important thing for modding: you'll have to build the language-Rom first, then add the mods by yourself. If you add existing mods to such a Rom you loose important parts of language feature because the mods normally change system apks. So for Ultimate or any other Custom Rom "adding languages" is no solution because the wrong order of steps.
But maybe - and that is not a promise - I will rethink my no-mod-policy for the all-languages Rom and try to add some Mods. Starting today I'll have a long weekend to fill without family...

I do not want to be a king (especially not for simple read-take-clone activities like modding), it's enough that I have a small princess at home. But I will try one starting in the afternoon.
