Vibration on Froyo - Touch CDMA Android Development

Is there any way to get it working? Running Super Froyo
Sent from my Vogue using XDA App

Would you do a forum search seriously this was answered like 2 days after we got a froyo port, and it def works
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App

oh the hypocrisy !!!
if prior to your dismissive response, you had actually tried the search terms "froyo" "vibration", across the entire android on vouge development thread, you would have discovered the ONLY result is THIS thread. !!
how about redeeming your redeeming yourself by at least posting a LINK to the solution?

just go into settings, sounds vibrate > always (or whatever you want). this however only affects the phone call, for individual apps like gmail or sms you have to go into the settings of those and set it to vibrate.
also for searching you have to be creative in your search terms doing vibrate in this forum gives http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=41720678, and the 4th or 5th result mentions like i said to go into the system settings and sound and set it.
Edit it was the 3rd result that gave http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7120509&highlight=vibrate#post7120509

after you change the settings to always vibrate, you can then long press the end key and select silent. This will put the phone into vibrate mode as indicated by the icon in the notification bar.
You can also toggle this in the lock screen when you have to swipe left to put the phone into vibrate mode as well.

Search down...

Just tried a forum search and got the following message:
vBulletin Message
Sorry, search is temporarily unavailable for approximately 5 minutes. Please try again in 10 minutes.
Not looking for help, just got a chuckle out of it. lol...
All working ok here
As this forum is using vbulletin the message you got is a normal thing when using vbulletin on high active forums with lots of users and activity, perhaps the database was too busy to answer queries.
That's also why a little later it was working again.

Try using the search box to the right of "Devices by OS or Manufacturer". It's a google powered one not affected by this limit.

[Q] change "This phone belongs to" on the lock screen

I don't know if this was already asked or not, but I want to change "This phone belongs to" on the lock screen of my Captivate. I searched for the answer with no luck. Can someone point me to a thread, or let me know how to do it.
THANKS!!!
Did you recently load an antivirus program? If so go into the settings and change it there.

that doesnt exist on stock. you must have an application installed that does that
Go into your antivirus that you downloaded go to settings then to remote management, under that folder you will see where you can turn the message off or edit it.

It was from the stupid app the whole time. I didn't even bother to look at the lock screen before I added the AV app, so I didn't realize that app added the message to that screen. I got it though, Thanks for the help!

Bugs, Problems, Workarounds & Tips

Okay, perhaps a consolidated thread of verified problems and potential workarounds might be good for the forum.
I'll list what I know here and try and keep it updated. I don't intend on this thread to become a duplicated discussion thread so I'll link to other discussion threads from this one if they exist.
If you're posting a problem in this thread, please also post how you've verified the problem and on what software versions! Please don't use this thread to post "how do I" or "it keeps rebooting" because that doesn't help anyone.

ferrari99 - does work
I would appreciate independent verification of this.
Music control returns to notification shade after being disabled and after a reboot.
Doesn't happen all of the time, may be related to using ADB
Box in music app remains unchecked and must be checked and unchecked again to make controls disappear again.
Home screen displays momentarily before lock screen.
Multiple reports
No apparent impact but it shouldn't happen.
Happens with WidgetLocker too.
External SD does not mount every time.
Can't be seen, can't be remounted
I think it only happens after a "reboot" not a Power Off/Power On cycle
Only known workaround is full Power Off/On
Not sure if it's widespread so independent verification would be good.
Multiple exchange accounts disabled in LGemail app.
See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986385
Workaround is to use Android Exchange client (see here)
Camera brightness not listening to "auto" brightness, but uses the manual settings.
Independant verification would be good.
Workaround is to use manual brightness setting.
Stock Lockscreen showing all messages, unread or otherwise
Only happens if you use an alternative Messaging app (HandCent, Chomp etc)
Displays total number of messages in stock app
Fix is to remove/lock messaging and mms apps in /system/app/ (see here and here)
This has consequences (nothing major) so read up about it first.
Can anybody verify behaviour with stock messaging app?
Stock Weather app is not location aware and is slow to update
Seems to be no workaround
See discussion here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992732
I also get a reading of -18C every time I change from WiFi to cell... ?
Phone goes totally unresponsive (locked up)
See discussion here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12186328
Possibly only whilst charging?
Battery pull seems only fix.
Feel free to post your reports, tips or workarounds!
Nice idea for a thread, should be sticked ;p
Lockscreen showing unread messages, even when all are read, when using third party messaging apps like handcent.
No workaround yet afaik.

Great thread. I hope these listed oddities can be patched up by LG. Is there any way owners can submit bug reports to manufacturers? If any 2x follower can recall, in Engadget's review in ref. to the Gallery app crash (search "Gallery" in the article) that appears to be fixed in the retail units as no user here has listed that as a reoccurring problem.
Or... I suppose we simply have to root this beast.

Custom roms may help but if this thread becomes meaningful it will eventually rank high enough to be noticed. I know of other examples here on XDA that manufacturers and carriers have monitored.

about the messages on the lockscreen:
it shows unread msgs in stock msg-app. Open stock app and read your msgs, you'll see.
setting Notification off in stock app makes no difference, i tried that right away.
My "fix" was to use goto lockscreen instead.
I suppose one could just freeze the msg-app with titanium, but i haven't tried that myself.
Hope this helps somebody.

[Q] Lost acess to General Settings after root

I recently rooted my Nook HD, running 2.0.5, using the universal root via CWM. Shortly thereafter I lost access to the "General" tab in the settings.
I can't access it directly, nor can I access it when I try to get to the keyboard setting directly, nor through the sound settings.
Every time I try it force closes and I get a "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped" message.
I've tried resetting the device and rerooting it and the same thing happens.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I am sure he just blindly installed voice search without reading the instructions. I am going to have to do something about this so users won't do that.
Edit: I just added some BIG warnings to the post. Maybe that will help.

I read instructions on how to root and get GAPPS HiddenG wrote on this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063230&highlight=christmas
Why would I think there are special instructions to sideload Voice Search?
Maybe if there was a specific thread addressing it the issue would be more visible, instead of it being buried in your root thread. I don't read every single thread on here before attempting a sideload. Also, I searched your root thread among others for the term "general" hoping to get some answers about the General settings force closing, but because you wrote "Then you can go to settings/general without it crashing." with the two words connected, I got no results. So I tried to find a solution to the best of my ability before posting my question short of reading every thread.
I appreciate all the work you've done for us on here leapinlar, but I'd appreciate a little more respect.

I am going to rename the file with the warning. Would that have caused you to read first? I'm just looking for a solution so someone else does not do this.

It's not your fault. The instructions I followed were not written by you and said nothing of installing Voice Search. Had I read your instructions I would have installed it properly. I think a thread named something like "Installing Voice Search on rooted Nook HD/HD +" with a quick explanation would have caught my eye. It is redundant but for someone like me that roots and installs gapps without your instructions, it is an easy to find solution.

I think I found the solution. I renamed the file to something that the user would not know what it is without reading instructions.
Edit: I even went one step further. I moved the zip to my mediafire server. That way users will not even know it is available unless they read the instructions to get the link.

Smart Quick settings doesn't circumvent the problem with the General Settings force closing. You can't use Smart Quick Settings to access keyboard settings nor date and time settings. Both of those exist in the General Settings.

True, you cannot get to those two with Smart Quick Settings, but you can get to the keyboard settings and input selection from the keyboards themselves without going through general. And the general time setting only lets you change timezone and 24hour format. How often are you going to change those? If you travel a lot, I guess some.
And using anycut you can set a shortcut to date and time without going through general.

App permission monitor stating the obvious on SMS?

Has anyone seen this App permission monitor pop up while doing something completely normal and keep letting you know every time you use it? For me, I'm using Google Messages as my default SMS app, and this thing pops up telling me "1 apps have been detected using 1 permissions" and lists Messages | SMS.
OBVIOUSLY.
What's even stranger is that I went to app permissions and it says that Messages is authorized for SMS, just like I okay'd it when Messages was set as the default SMS app. What gives? I think this might come in handy when an app goes rogue, using permissions without me saying it was okay to do so, but in this case, it's like saying "water is wet." When you click on the notification, it says that Messages has been using permissions in the background.... What?
Any thoughts on how to okay this with App permission monitor so I can text without this warning all the time (and no, I'm not about to hide notifications of it since it could be helpful in the future).
Go into Settings > Lock Screen and Security > App Permissions Monitor and turn it off.

Not helpful. Please read what I wrote again. I think the app could possibly be useful, but it just needs to be corrected.
You can actually go in and tell it to not report permission uses for specific apps instead of turning it off completely. Instead of clicking the rifle just click on the words so permission monitor and it'll give the full list of apps and you can shut off reporting for apps you trust.

THANK YOU. This is what I was looking for. I didn't know what you were referring to at first, I was just getting the notification because I didn't see it in Settings (there is so much stuff in there now, you just about have to use the search feature for everything these days!), but now that I found it, I clicked on the words, not the toggle switch, and set Messages to NOT monitor. Perfect, thank you.
I am kind of confused. What did you search to make it go away? This is getting so annoying because it is always telling me textra is using SMS and I am not sure what to do to make it stop. Like you I would still like to keep the monitor on I just wish it would stop telling me what I already know.

I was a little confused as well so this is what I did to correct it.
SETTINGS >> LOCK SCREEN AND SECURITY >> APP PERMISSION MONITOR
From there you should go down to the android Messages app and toggle it to off. That will disable giving the warning every time you send a message.
Hope that helps.

You do know they legit just told you how to do it.... you dont have to be mean about it. and then stating "THIS" is what im looking for. Like they told you how to get there, you click the name. if you went onto there to just hit the toggle without looking/investigating around, ie. pressing the section instead, then you arent probably getting the most out of your phones.
I suggest playing around in your settings and everything to get the most out of your phone.
I legit just made this account to tell you this because the person helped you and you seemed to speak rude to them.

I am assuming you are using a 3rd party messaging app from the play store?
I am still getting the notifications even though for instance Contacts is allowed to be used by Android Messages, I get the notification everytime I send or receive a text.
I tried turning the monitor off completely, still getting notifications.
All since I upgraded to a new Samsung patch last night on my S8+.
In fact I got the notification just now after I toggled the setting to off...I checked and the toggle is back on.

I could not figure out how to get that to stop to save me and my OCD couldn't take anymore of those notifications as it was always about my chosen text app. Turning off all didn't work why I didn't think to try just the one is beyond me.
