Vodafone Live India problem with Android... - XPERIA X1 Android Development

Hi, I am from India and here the services SUCK...
Anyways, I have a question to all the developers....
I use Vodafone Live GPRS connection, 0 rental and 10 p/ 10 kb...
Now comes the funny part, the Vodafone guys tell me that first of all, Android isnt supported by Live, I need a V Mobile Connect...(that costs a bomb)
BUT....
GPRS works fine with the Browser ONLY...why so???
Why cant anyother Apps use it??
If its the SAME phone, SAME service, then how can one app use it and the other cant???
Any help is greatly appreciated...

I'm facing the same problem dude... Even the Market, gmail and gtalk are not working

hey its because of the proxy issue
vodafone live comes with a http proxy

get a bsnl 2g sim
274 per month
unlimited
the apn for the same is bsnlnet
you would be able to browse 3g at the price of 2g

First, Mobile services do not suck in India.. If you look at European countries, we have been enjoying loads of free sms and down to earth call rates. Try to appreciate what we have. Second, Vodafone does have a Rs 98 plan which gives you 2 GB.. Use it or leave it.. And still unpleased with Indian mobile services, just go somewhere else. No offence meant.
And I have used HTC Magic(Android), HTC Hero, Sony Xperia X1 ( Windows 6.5 ), Sony Xperia X10 and now HTC Desire ( Android ) and have tried them all on Vodafone with no connectivity issues.

Either you are God's fav child or u own Vodafone...again, no offence meant...Secondly the services DO suck, and next time when u suggest some1 something, make sure u can help them in doing that, in that case, can u sposnor me going abroad...U cant, just as i thought.
The Vodafone 98 plan is WAP NOT WWW..i do my research well before u even get out of the bed in the morning...I now have AirTel, Internet is good, fast but the range SUCKS....
And secondly, I would appreciate a creative feedback or issues asked in my post...dont have any space for sarcasm or critcism..again, no offence meant..Thanx!

Vodafone VMC Plans
guys it seems vodafone is the only operator in mumbai who has this problem with the android and it seems totally delibrate.
however for prepaid users there seem to be some new vmc plans,
eg Rs 99 monthly for 1GB, etc...
am converting my postpaid to prepaid for the moment and am waiting for number portability to start from march and shift...

GPS in Dubai - Mr. mkhattab

I'm getting the Touch Diamond later in the day. I heard from a friend that there is no maps on the phone. Can Mr. mkhattab please advice me how he got the maps & the required softwares, as he is also from Dubai. This is the first item I'm buying with GPS. I have no idea how to get the subscription for it
My friend you dont need any subscription
just download navigon or garmin softwares as iGo doesnt work on Touch diamond.
You can download the software with the maps through www.ce4arab.com:)
is the diamond available in Dubai?

Well... here you go then
1. Go to https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsUpdates.jsp?product=010-11034-00&cID=138&pID=11413 and download the latest version of the unit software for Windows Mobile (currently 4.20.50w )
2. Download the free basemap and the support files from the same page
3. Install them in that order- make sure your phone is connected well before installing so the install wizard can detect the Internal Storage partition
4. I'm trying to find the map download link on Garmin.com- I could've sworn I had it bookmarked with these- the one you need is City Navigator Middle East v4
5. Not really sure how well (if at all) this application functions on a trial basis (I purchased) so maybe you can try it and let us know

in germany it is enabled, i see "Google Play Movies" in my Apps list with the red film stripe icon.
as i know it has just been enabled a few months ago in germany whereas in the usa it's been going on for over a year now.
it's all about legal stuff and movie licences..

I too thought the same! The Play Movies was enabled in India last week and after being rolled out even it wasn't enabled till I did so and the same is wit magazines though they aren't enabled in India yet!
A strange doubt, how does Sony or Google know that the service is available in the respective country and how can they enable it in my device remotely? Can they?

they have to do an ota update that installs it to change anything on your mobile.

Of course they can ,the phone checks what country you're in based on the mobile network and not the SIM-card. .
Think also how the split the updates to the world ,today UK tomorrow Germany etc ..they can see a lot of ways
right, italian journalist went to USA with Xperia Z and when he came back he noticed he had these two apps. That's it

how would they check in which country you are in ? they need an app for that, which calls the home server by itself and tells them where you are ?
ok, sony has some update apps from sony. but do they really check the cell network you are in ? does it use google location based service ?
i don't know if it really does that. normally it's rolled out by serial number.
but without such an app or background service that is continuously sending data to sony or checking once a week, it's not possible for sony to know which device is where in the world.
i bought myself a device from asus from the uk with a UK Serial Number and the WWE Rom Version. i've only and just ever used it in germany, but i only got the UK OTA ROMS and got it when it was rolled out in the UK.
so without an app like sony update that connects periodically with sony servers and collects usage data, it's simply not possible. they OTA Updates are spread by Serial Numbers, that's what i was told by ASUS, and that's what happened with their devices. they don't have an update app like sony and that's why i wrote that in my last post.
does anyone really "know" what the sony update app is doing ? yes, no ? sorry, but if not, it's simply speculation on how the ota updates are rolled out.
imo the update app just checks for updates and submits the serial number of the device. it's a guess. if anyone knows better, please post.

ok, i guess the ip thing is easier to work with than an app reporting the used cell network bandwidth.. whatever, none of us knows what the sony app really does and by what cause the ota's are rolled out.
I think that we go off topic ,Sony Video Unlimited app can see in which country you are and if your area is supported by the app or not ,thats different with hidden google apps ,on the home screen pull your finger from downbar upwards and see another hidden google app starting

[Q] Torrent Downloads HTC

Hey guys I have a small issue I am hoping you can help me with
I have recently purchased the HTC one on contract with 3, and have unlimited data on 3.9G
I want to use these speeds to download torrents, because my phone internet speed is faster that my home speeds
I have downloaded the Utorrent app, but when I open the app while on 3G connection, my phone is picking up Utorrent as a tethering app, and will stop my data connection.
is there any apps that you guys know of that will allow me to download torrents to my phone, that wont activate the tethering.
Thanks
wrong section
try Swarm https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ws.munday.swarm&hl=en
Use tTorrent.
You can set it to WiFi only or WiFi and data connection.
I use uTorrent frequently on both data and wifi, (O2 network) and have no problems myself. Sure it's the phone and not your provider shutting off your data?

It's your network provider Three. They don't allow torrenting, and only tethering on an advanced plan.

No, Three can see exactly what servers you are trying to connect to. You shouldn't torrent on mobile data as it reduces speeds for everyone else :/

I would download in the house but my internet speeds suck, and im in work all day.
and where I work most people are on benefits, so my taxes contribute to the money they use to pay for their phone contracts. (or they are using EE's 4G)
So im not to bothered if their speeds get slowed down because of me.

Yes, a torrent friendly VPN should work. It's just not necessarily a free solution.

[email protected] Z
There no way to bypass ur carrier quota. Even if yes, you will never get the answer here. Its cheating and illegal.
Sorry dude, the only solution is find any mamak stall with wifi hotspot then ur internet speed will fast enough to browsing etc.
Btw,use umobile is better,LTE on prepaid not like maxis.

Nexus 6 WiFi calling - EE UK

So, just been reading this:
http://phandroid.com/2015/05/22/off...android-5-1-1-with-wifi-calling-this-weekend/
Being on EE in the UK, who have just launched WiFi calling, I'm particularly interested in the above article and would love to see it on my device.
However, I'm just wondering what it would take to get it on my device and what the requirements are. Would be so handy.
Could I install the above 5.1.1 T Mobile version and simply change my APN?

Unlikely. I don't think the EE wifi will be the same as T-MO USA, even though EE is 50% T-MO UK.

That doesn't really help the OP. He was hoping the t-mobile wifi calling app would help him wifi call on a different provider.
Yes, I'd be interested to know this as well. It would also be nice to know if the new O2 HD Voice ( http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Welcome-News/HD-Voice-is-rolling-out-on-O2/td-p/879709 ) is working with LYZ28E. Not sure what network @toString is on.
