[PATCH] Froyo 8-1-2010 Market, Audio, 32M VM Heap - Droid Incredible Android Development

IMO, the 8/1/2010 leak is pretty darned nice. I took Adrenalyne's patch and added an audio fix for streaming AAC issues, and increased the VM Heap size to 32MB.
Things to note.
Pros:
1. Pandora and Slacker sound cleaner with this
2. Market sees all of my downloads, no problem. I have been able to install all my Google apps, no problem (Sky, Earth, Maps, etc.)
3. My Quadrant score 1281
4. My Linpack score 38.392
Cons:
1. m.youtube.com in the browser will not work. However, the YouTube app will stream videos fine.
No need to rename the .zip file. Just load it via clockwork.
Or, you can extract the build.prop file and push it to /system/app (remember you need to be in recovery with /system mounted.)
Once uploaded, dial

To register your fingerprint in the market.

EDIT 8/9/2010:
Added file to remove audio patch, but still keep Market Fix and 32MB VM Heap size.

noticed you edited the post.. i ran this zip when you first put it up. can early adopters push future without problems? or is there no difference between OG file and update?

Yeah, the file hasn't changed. If it does, I will note a changelog. Go ahead and run it. While you're at it, can you check to see if m.youtube.com works in any of your browsers? Some people have mentioned to me that it doesn't work.
Works on mine, though.

sorry dr. i didn't realize that you didn't post the original market fix patch. Thats whats adding to my confusion. Shall we still assume we can push future updates without catastrophic effects?
i am figuring yes ... but try to play it somewhat safe.

Yeah, this is just a change to the build.prop file to match the latest leak. Also, the stagefright change and 32MB Heap is included in this prop. I just put it up for the sake of others who hate the "Pandora/Slacker in-a-cave" sound. It does come at the expense of running m.youtube.com videos in your browser.
Although, the YouTube app works fine.

+2 on ota 8/1. runs much better that OTA #1. had several issues with FC, general lag, and most of all handcent... and if i can't sms, it ain't no good'
as for the m.youtube everything loads except video... i get " sorry, this vid cannot..." in both stock browser as well as dolphin hd
Youtube app DOES work

Thanks for the confirmation.
I listen to music more than youtube, anyway. And when I do go to youtube, it's through the APP, so no biggie for me. Hope it holds well for everyone else.

m.youtube.com doesn't load videos.. but love the build..

Any luck with Listen? I haven't been able to use it since upgrading to a 2.2 build.

I'm using the leak from 7/27 and I just installed it, It started no problem. It even remembered the podcasts I had subscribed to. I tried listening to an episode and it started playing fine.

I don't use Listen, so I couldn't help you there.

I looked at what was changed and only added the vm 32 heap...
I use m.youtube.com a lot.
Thanks!

can you put your version up? i would love to have the 32vm heap, but dont want to lose m.youtube.com either.
Thanks!

M.YouTube.com doesn't work.. but u can always watch it desktop mode

gotta ask the usual. can this be undone for the final ota?
did the patch anyway. now youtube doesnt play anymore. it did before the patch

Yeah, the first post indicated you will lose m.youtube.com. Full desktop youtube.com will work, as well as YouTube app.
For reverting, no need when you update to the OTAs. The build.prop file will be replaced by whatever build.prop file is included in any ROM. Additionally, if you flash any ROM, you'll lose this update.
EDIT:
added a file to remove the audio fix, but still maintain the market fix and 32MB VM heap. See OP for the file.

thanks. i dont use you tube that often, but i didnt notice any improvements any way. so i guess i'll revert. thanks again

will this help my situation?
xmradio app stops for a few mins every 30 sec as if buffering. Pandora will stop after each song unless you unlock the screen.
does this patch help call quality?
Is it already built into my skyraider?
I'm running skyraider 3.2 rc3 with 2.15.00.0728 radio, kernel 2.6.32.15
Thanks for any guidance

[BETA PATCH] Audio Fix for Leaked 2.2 (NOT simply a build prop change)

This patch replaces all the changed libstagefright libraries with versions from the Evo OTA. It isn't the same as the other audio fix. I haven't been able to reproduce the media issues in the past so I need people who are willing to test this patch and report on whether it helps.
Nandroid backup, apply the patch and test media streaming, then reply here and let us know how it went.
Download:
Apply the patch -- http://www.multiupload.com/B9TRCNKPF0
Undo the patch -- http://www.multiupload.com/48J3CJ7J60
I tested this for an hour and it did seem to fix the streaming audio issue.
Does this fix help with the bench marks too? Does it decode H264 as fast or slow like the build.prop fix? I dont really care about the speed it decodes, just curious.
I imagine we need to undo the other streaming audio fix before applying this, correct? If so, how do we revert back?
Scoring in the 1200s with Quadrant and no audio issues now.
Seems to decrease headphone audio volume by about 25%

Just scored a 1290 in quadrant. The audio quality seems to be back to normal. I am still having issues with MOG where it'll get part way though a song and then skip to the next. Didn't have this issue with the build prop fix.

I include a build.prop with just the fingerprint changed (market fix) specifically for this reason, to force the stagefright libs to be used again.
So far it sounds like I should include the patch in my bundle.
I am having issues with the Google Search widget, it won't take text input anymore. I will restore my ' before' backup and report back. I am using Swype.
Sent from my C128 using XDA App
Edit: My Swype/Google Search Widget issue seem to be 2.2/Swype/Google issues, false alarm, sorry.
I still think my volume was better before this update, though. Are the Evo's and DI's sound hardwarez different?
the aac+ files i have saved on my internal memory sound like garbage with this patch applied. MOG is skipping songs part way through. pandora seemed to sound ok, but pandora is my least used music app.

Same here. Worth restoring a nandroid? Is there a way to revert or does it not matter in terms of overall performance anyway?

I don't think you need to revert unless it's having a practical effect in apps that you use. Either way, I'll put together a revert patch right now.
Patch for undoing the audio changes is available for anyone who wants to roll back easily.
Wow, that was fast. Thanks.
Doesn't seem to effect any of my programs (besides quadrant), so maybe I'll hold off on rolling back for now
No fix on pmf using last.fm

doesnt seem to be working on skyraiders 2.0.1 using the sirius XM app, i get 30 sec of audio then it loops itself.
when i changed
media.stagefright.enable-player=true
to = false
it seems to fix it, dont konw what other side effects that change may cause
So I'm hearing mixed results, is this worth applying?
I'm running Skyraiders 2.0.1 as well...
My audio problem is crappy sound. All my songs play from start to finish, they just sound like they're on AM radio. The build.prop fix actually fixed it so it sounded great again, but the performance hit was far too severe. Also, it borked the video camera. If I tried to record, the phone locked.
This fix does not fix the sound quality. Still sounds like an AM radio with a broken "tune" knob.
However, it had no ill effect on any other part of the OS. Video still works fine, and the phone is still hoppin.

[Patch] 32m Heap Size, + True Streaming Audio Fix

So far, I have been given the thumbs up on this. I compiled it earlier today from aosp.
You can read about the fix here:
android.git.kernel.org Git - platform/frameworks/base.git/commit
This should work for any Froyo leak 2 based rom. Make a Nandroid backup, of course. If using on any other rom, use the patch from the SECOND post (and revert build.prop changes to stagefright stuff, if you made them).
Phone neutral Froyo patch:
http://adrynalyne.stfuthxbye.net/test_patches/stagefright.zip
Tested on Droid Incredible and Moto Droid.
thanks adrynalyne
Thanks much appreciated
So only changes are audio and heap size?
Just loaded it. Thanks
Right. The second post has just audio changes.
Thanks for this!
Is this built into any of your roms yet?
Its only been out 30 minutes.
Thanks a lot adrynalyne.
Thank you sir. your work is really appreciated.
Edit: should I say: your works are really appreciated.
So froyo roms based on the first leak is second post while froyo roms based on latest leak is first post? Just want to clarify
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Yes. Also, if you made any changes to your stagefright stuff in your build.prop, you need to change it back.
WOW!!!
-first test: 64kbps AAC+ songs on my internal memory using stock HTC music player sound like they used to sound on 2.1. patch seems to work.
-second test: XiiaLive still won't play my AAC+ streams. i think this is the app blocking all AAC+ streams to 2.2 phones. is there a way to trick the app into thinking im on 2.1? can i simply alter the build prop to accomplish this?
-third test: Pandora over 3g sounds just as crappy as it normally did on 2.1. lets face it, pandora's sound quality isn't anywhere near audiophile quality. it definitely no longer sounds broken though, so the patch works.
-fourth test: Slacker radio no longer sounds broken either, on 3g it sounds just as crappy as it did on 2.1. it's not audiophile quality either, but it's not broken. patch seems to work.
i got one more app to test.
EDIT:
test five: MOG will play roughly 2:15 of a song and then skip to the next. this sucks because i pay $10 a month for this app and i really like it. i am thinking this is a problem with the app though. seems as though it doesn't like 2.2 and the whole stagefright thing.

Stagefright is the media framework that Google included in Android 2.2. All media apps use it to decode music. So, yes, you do need it if you've been affected by the audio bug.

As it all that static and jumpieness (don't think that's a real word) in the music? OK will do. Thanks!
Thank You!!
Slacker appears to sound better (won't know for sure until I'm in the car), but twice now a song has ended prematurely. I don't know at what time marks, but I'm watching more closely now. Also, I'm testing streaming currently over 3G and will be testing cached stations in a bit.
Unfortunately, the last two songs have played to completion. Fortunate, actually, but making me watch music times even longer. Ah well, it's all in the name of science! My boss will understand!

(barely)Working Flash lite on Nook Color Rooted

Ok, I hope i'm not regurgitating info, and if I am. Please kill this thread. But I was pretty sure i've been paying attention and no flash was working yet. I hijacked this info of of this thread : http://android.modaco.com/content/z...295/flashlite-working-with-stock-android-2-1/
so the credits not mine, BUT , I did install the .lib files, and then load the apk and guess what? Flash!! It doesn't seem to work in Dolphin, but it did load and work in the native browser. It's choppy, doesn't seem to look very good, but it's a start right?
Ok, so use root explorer to move .lib files to system/lib, then install the apk and voila. I've included a screen shot for proof of concept. Either way, it's in your hands now guys. I'm not even close to a dev, just a googler. I was thinking about how flashlite worked on other devices but not ours and figured there would maybe be dependencies we could move over, obviously someone else had already done the work for me on a seperate device.
EDIT: alright, this is weird. I probably should have done some more testing before I jumped the gun. (sorry, I was excited) Apparently I also installed another version of flash player prior to the instructions I posted. Nothing seems to work unless the lib files, and both versions of flash are installed. This can't be right, nor does it make sense, but i've tested both versions with the lib files and without each other and they don't work...so anyone else who cares to mess around installing different versions of flash with the lib files, maybe we can get better results. I've attached the other flash file I used below.
Pretty cool, I wonder what other browsers this works in. I'll have to give this a try, it'd be nice to watch some of the blog videos or such.

the guy in the other thread said it would work with xscope so i'm trying it now...i haven't found a site where I could get a video to load yet, but newgrounds did load a game (useless I know) ...
I just tried it in Opera Mobile, didn't seem to be working there (I went to the 'what's my flash version' site and nada)
It actually worked in dolphin. About as well as it did in the standard browser, choppy stuttery, newgrounds game, no sound. Seems like its trying to work with videos, but its just missing something.
This thread needs the attention of revs
Move to book devlopment maybe?
I actually started the thread in android development, and it was moved by a mod to general. I'm not sure i'd want to waste too much dev attention on something like this when I know they are close to finishing 2.2 and i've read gingerbread might be coming soon too with CM. Right now the only reason to use those apks on the original post is if you'd like to be able to see more ads on web pages than you were previously able to.

I'm new to getting a NC and rooting it, but I'm interested in having flash on mine.
Have you guys experienced any problems with your NC after pushing this Flash on it?

[UPDATE][5/4][MOD]Hulu working BRILLIANTLY on Honeycomb {TESTERS NEEDED}

UPDATE 5/4: It has been determined, although it remains unclear as to why, that you need a modified kernel in order for this mod to work. It is my intention to get Hulu working across the Honeycomb platform, so if you have any input as to why Tiamat's kernel is required, please address it in this thread
Read Entire Post
Download links at the bottom of the post.
Using a modified version of the new (4/29)10.2 Flash update, created by imneveral0ne, from the Thunderbolt forums, and Dolphin Mini, with minor settings adjustments, you can enjoy smooth, clear playback of content from Hulu, in it's full browser format. This includes access to all content, including those deemed unavailable for access by mobile devices or TV's. The apk modification essentially changes the user agent of Flash as it appears on the net.
Previously, this has been possible using a similarly modified apk, changing your user agent to desktop, and viewing Hulu using an alternate URL, www.hulu.com/widget/player. While not only presenting an awful UI, this method of playback resulted in choppy video that often fell out of sync.
If you are currently not using Dolphin Mini as a daily browser, it will be easy for you to install it, and implement it as a single purpose browser. Just change the homepage to hulu.com. It's UI is conveniently matched to the design of Hulu's website, which makes for a clean experience. It's light and fast, and could be a daily driver for those looking for a minimalist browser.
The entire experience is smoother, Flash is behaving like it should. Selecting options from within the Hulu playback interface has been a nightmare, but with the updated flash, and HRI66, it's an entirely pleasant way to watch great content on the Xoom.
As for playback, you will find smooth playing video, at 480p. 480p looks great on the Xoom and the Tegra 2 handles it beautifully. By manually lowering the resolution of choice, to either 360p or 288p, you will notice the decrease in resolution, however, you should increase your available bandwidth and relax the stress on your processor, likely saving battery life.
Regarding HD, it is possible, with Hulu Plus of course, to play video in 720p . However, because hardware acceleration has yet to be enabled, the resulting video will be choppy and most likely unwatchable. This has been tested with an over-clocked Tegra2 at 1.5ghz. It would be fair to assume that when the Xoom and/or Honeycomb receive the update Adobe is referring to, 720p HD playback will be possible. In the mean time, 480p looks fantastic.
Also of note, true multitasking is possible using this mod. You can go back to your homescreen, open new apps, check your mail, and your Hulu video will remain playing in the background. You can still hear audio, and work during commercials, resuming playback instantly.
As for installation, this couldn't be easier.
1. Download modified Flash 10.2 HERE CHOOSE LINK #2 LABELED Flash 10.2 + Hulu_2.apk OR from this dropbox public link
2. Uninstall your current version of Flash using the Manage Applications setting.
3. Reboot
4. Install modified version of Flash 10.2
5. Install Dolphin Mini from the Market HERE
6. In Dolphin Mini, change the user agent to Desktop (Menu>Toolbox>UserAgent>Desktop) and change plug-ins to always on (Menu>Toolbox>Settings>Enable Plug-Ins>Always On). This will ensure Flash content plays back immediately.
7. Go to hulu.com and enjoy all the great content on the go with your Android Honeycomb Tablet!!!!
Instructions updated to reflect the following contribution.

If you are having trouble, for example, Hulu is telling you Flash is not installed, please leave a post in the thread noting your model(Wifi or 3g), your build number(HRI39, HRI66 etc), your kernel(modified or stock) and your recovery. It has been determined that a custom kernel is required for this mod to work appropriately. If you have any idea as to why this may be the case, please dump your ideas in this thread.

I can confirm it DOES work with Dolphin HD, however, I have noticed MUCH better performance using Dolphin Mini. It's very light weight and the pages load very smoothly. If you are looking to replicate my positive experiences, I highly recommend Dolphin Mini.

It is my intention to have a tutorial for anyone who wants to watch Hulu on their Honeycomb tablet. When you say it doesn't work for YOU, I want to know why, so that I can help others who may run in to a similar situation. Of course it will work in the stock browser, as long as you change the user agent to desktop. This of course will be reset to default android upon restart, unless you are using a modified framework.
The goal of this post is show how you can consistently get quality Hulu playback without the need to adjust settings, more than once, upon the initial install.
Being that XDA is a community driven site, your input is appreciated. If you get a chance, see if you can get Hulu working under the conditions I suggested, and compare your experience to the stock browser with the user agent changed. I'd be curious to know the results.

doesn't work. tells me i have to install flash player.
i've downloaded the second link the one that says flash 10.2 + hulu and then uninstalled the market version of flash. i then reinstalled the the modded flash and installed dolphin browser mini.
I changed the ua string to desktop, but there is no add-on values. There's only a setting that says plugin support, and i checked always on.
I've tried it three different times and each time it can't detect the flash player in the browser.
I DLed from the Dropbox link, uninstalled the old flash, installed the new APK, installed Dolphin Mini and updated the user agent and plug in settings but I still get the message:
"Hulu requires Flash PLayer 10.0.32 or higher. Please download and install the latest version of Flash Player before continuing."

Try clearing you cache and perhaps rebooting your Xoom, lets get this working!

Flash Player?

Now that audio is working pretty well, I'd like to get Flash working.
No, not particularly for watching videos.
It just seems that most of streaming stuff on the web nowadays (including radio) is Flash-based.
There is flash_for_21.apk kicking around and it installs.
Unfortunately, my Opera Mobile does not recognize it as a plugin.
(Check the URL operalugins in the Opera browser.)
AUdio working? Still looking for that? Is there a link to the post?
For audio, you can start about here on the thread for USB host mode:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24824407&postcount=183
I gave it a small chance that you haven't seen this thread ?! That doesn't help ???
You need 3 apps and 3 system libs to get Flash working?
Ok, putting the 3 lib files in /system/lib is straight forward.
Copying the 3 apps to /system/app is clear,
but what the heck is the replacing the system app of FlashPlugin.apk?
Ok, I did that too, but Opera is still reporting no plugins.
I'm still not seeing any plugins in Opera.
Was this all based on having an older Opera Mobile?
In the original post on Flash, it says that it doesn't work on opera...
Oh, I must have missed that.
The default "Browser" on the Nook doesn't do any better.
Which browser does work?
As mentioned in the previous thread, maxathon!
Flash works pretty bad, sometimes it stucks and I am unable to press any flash button. Seems suitable to show flash banners but not to browse flash based web pages. Tried it once but I am not using it anymore.
