[Q] rooted hero seems to be in trouble - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have lost my set up wizard and application process. I have clockwork recovery img and back up file on sdcard, can't use apps or pc, what do I do?

power off your fone, hold the home button while you pwer it on, scroll down to nandroid, and select restore then restore from your backup. once you restore reboot. then d/l fresh rom 2.3.3, its the most stable rom and has all extras, you might also be able to do it by wiping dalvik-cache or doing a factory reset, which i would try first, but if you dont want o lose your data, do the restore

much thanx. I love learning about this phone

market issue fixed (possibly) :)

hey guys i know many of you like me had issues with market downlaod not working or not installing etc, please try this out as its worked for me and ive even managed to instal all apps i had through titanium back up which also wasnt working for me
Please do the following steps in the way i did:
1. turn off the phone so its completely shut down (ie NOT in recovery or download mode). Once you are powered down remove your sd card, please DO NOT replace the sd card until i say
2. reboot to recovery and make backups of anything you dont want to lose through usb mount and copy items to pc, once this is done, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wide data factory reset in that order
3. Complete the Factory reset and reboot
4. As soon as the device is restarted the first thing to do is login to Google Talk
5. After Google Talk has booted and is complete. Go back to home screen and start Market. Start off with downloading google maps
6. Press the Download and wait for instal to complete
7. now this is done you should be able to go ahead and start downloading other apps, i recomend trying a few you have had trouble installing then go for installing all from a back up if they instal ok
8. Now what we need to do is turn the phone off again so its completely shut down and then replace the sd card, replace the back cover of your phone, turn on the phone and wait for everything to start up as you would with your pc (while this is taking its time starting up go and get yourself a cold beer from the fridge and congratulate yourself on fixing your app market)
9. now try downloading apps from market again
10. have fun
goodnight and god bless
Hi Steve hopefully gonna try this tonight but Im trying to remember if you were on Darky's v9.2 Rom or not? If so after the factory reset did you install a stock (eg: XXJPY) first and then Darky's Rom or installed Darky's Rom straight away with CF-Root Kernal?
Thanks

[Q] recovery mode backup/restore

Mornings,
Had a bit of an issue yesterday in that my phone wouldnt turn on. Finally reflashed a stock and put back on Darkys mod.
In the Recovery mode i did a backup of all my files before i started (couldnt boot the phone to use anything else)
I would like to restore my SMS messages and contacts only.
Is this possible ?
Options i have are:
Restore boot, Restore system, Restore data, Restore cache, Restore sd-ext.
I tried "Restore Data" last night after i got everything working (so i could use one of the SMS Backup + type tools, but the phone wouldn't boot so had to reflash it all.
Thanks

[Q] Recovery mode not working - Please help!!!

Hi,
I have tried to upgrade the ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S i9000.
The upgrade was successful but the phone was not running well, so I tried to restore the previous ROM by using ROM Manager app.
For some reason the restore did not take place when the phone was rebooted.
After this, the phone will not boot.
When I press the power button, only the welcome screen comes on, but nothing happens.
I tried to enter recovery mode, by pressing volume-up+home+power, but nothing happens (the welcome screen comes on and that's about it).
Download mode is working.
When I try to connect the phone to the PC in download mode the PC recognizes it, but in other modes, the USB is not recognized.
What should I do to restore my phone to its previous state?
Is there another way to enter recovery mode?
Thanks,
Dubi
Use odin to flash another firmware to it, I have links below in my sig.
Instructions should be within the threads, but its essentially put the files in the matching names, and click repartition (this wipes the phone) and click start
Thanks for your quick reply.
I am not sure that I understand the difference between recovering the old ROM and flashing a new one, as you suggested.
If I use the Odin with the download mode, will it erase the contents of my internal sd-card as well and contact information or will this information still be available and I can use it to restore my phone (for example I used Titanium backup to backup the contents of my applications etc.)?
In other words, what are the differences between the two methods?
Thanks again,
Dubi
Odin is usually considered a fresh install, it usually deletes everything on your phone, (sometimes internal sd card, but not always). When you do flash through odin its like a factory reset so you will loose all contact info and app info etc. If you saved your backup on internal sd then you will loose that if you internal sd is wiped.
Going through recovery it depends on the rom and contents of the zip. Sometimes it will factory reset your phone, sometimes it wont. Usually it is advised to wipe if you are changing to a different rom, but as you said it was only an update and so it probably wouldn't require a wipe.
In your case yes everything will be wiped via Odin, and possibly your internal sd card will remain.
Titanium backup will allow you to restore the apps and data you have backed up.
Unless you can get back into recovery it may not be possible to save everything that was on there previously. The only way that I think may work is by using adb, and typing adb reboot recovery. If that works then you should maybe try the update again, or try another zip
Solve it? lemme know

[Q] HELP! I have no launcher!! Possible Brick?!

Hey everyone
So a while back i was using titanium backup and i accidently pressed "convert to user data" or something like that to TWLauncher. It froze so i took out the battery and then it dissappeared. I have adw launcher though so I was okay.
Now i decided to install a custom rom and did a factory reset because a fullwipe was recommended. I pressed the home + volume up + power button and chose factory wipe.
Now the phone loads up but after the google installation it says SETUP WIZARD not working FORCE CLOSE. and my phone is blank! I can use the voice command to open settings and apps and task manager and I have access to the pull down menu but other than that everything is blank! if i press the home button my phone freezes for a second and then restarts.
can anyone please help me?
I suppose you could connect to your PC, and push another launcher apk to the phone, or just reflash official rom using odin?
are you rooted and do you have CWM recovery?
EDIT: SInce you can open apps via voice command, why dont you just open Titanium backup and convert TWlauncher back to a system app?
How do i reflash official rom using odin? I just downloaded odin for mac but i have no idea what files i need and how to make it recognize my phone.
I cant run titanium backup because my phone is wiped clean to factory settings

[Q] ROM Manager woes

I have a rooted HTC Hero (Sprint) and during preparations for upgrading to CM7 I ran into issues with ROM Manager.
First, I backed up everything (apps and data) via two different methods. I cleared davlik cache, and then performed a CWM Flash Recovery backup. Once that completed successfully, I sought out to apply the CM7 ROM. I selected it from the GUI menu, rather than rebooting into the Flash Recovery. I selected to backup everything and then wipe the data/cache. During the process, the phone hung (white HTC screen for over 10 minutes). I could reboot successfully after this, and selecting "Recovery" didn't work either. I figured my phone was bricked. But miraculously, it managed to finally recover.
The recovered ROM was a fresh clean slate. So, I installed ROM Manager and Titanium backup again. However, when I tried to reboot to the CWM Flash Recovery, or even try entering the CWM CUI menu from power up (by holding the HOME key), the phone hangs. Something is seriously screwed up with ROM Manager. I'd like to wipe it completely clean and start over, but everything I've tried results in a phone that hangs. I'm now thinking I should use a different program for managing the ROMs... but, being familiar with ROM Manager and seeing other people use it successfully, I feel determined to make it work. Any suggestions?
I would just flash an RUU and start from scratch.

I was able to recover.
What I didn't realize is that the first boot can take upwards of 20-30 minutes. I pulled the battery after around 15 minutes, thinking my phone had hung.
Anyway, when I selected "Recovery" again I left the phone alone and eventually I got a stock ROM again. Whew!
While ClockworkMod is fine for 2.1, when you're on 2.3 there's no question that TWRP is the way to go. I've flashed it to my phone (did "flash_image recovery [recoveryfilename.img]") from the terminal window and it's working great, far more extensive than ClockworkMod.
