[Q] Rooting htc Hero on 2.1 (not Sprint) - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay guys, I have scoured the internet and these forums trying to find a solution to my problem, but I have not come up with anything yet. I have followed the directions exactly for the Sprint version of the rooting for 2.1 on an htc Hero and everything is fine until I get to the command:
sh /sdcard/unrevoked
Now it does it's thing with this and I get the next Unpacking, please wait... And then the huge UNREVOKED, but after this in everything that I have seen it should say "Ready to 'su'." Yet it never does. It just goes back to the "$" and that's where it sits. I checked the phone just to make sure and see if the superuser permissions app was there... and it's not. Am I missing something? I didn't get any errors before this, but can't get that app installed. Ugh, so frustrated...

So no ideas from anyone, huh? Darn, and here I was hoping someone would at least have something for me to try.

I am confused, you said in the thread title you want root for 2.1 not sprint but then you go to mention this;

So you want it for the sprint or not for the sprint?
See here not for the sprint (HTC Hero)

Andrewb84uk,
Good question, but the statement I made still holds true. The phone I have is not using the Sprint ROM but it is a CDMA phone, so I was hoping that the rooting exploit for Sprint would work for the company that I am through as well (which happens to be a carrier called Cellcom located in Wisconsin). So Yes, I do not have a Sprint Hero, but I also do not have a GSM Hero either. Just hoping that since I can't find rooting for any other carriers, something might have worked...

That's okay. Thanks for even responding! I appreciate it.

If your phone is CDMA, then I would post over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=650
I can move this if you want (I think), but you might as well just open a thread over there and explain the issues.
In GSM Hero, we tend to refer to all CDMA hero's as being Sprint Heros (since Sprint was first to release it IIRC)

how to root non-sprint cdma hero
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581869

Search " universal 1 click root" on xda and follow those directions, even some dude on ACG network gained root.
Sent from my fresh hero.

here's my post, even includes a convenient qr code for it:

I tried out a few of the different rooting techniques and have still had no luck. It's kinda frustrating. I guess that's one of the downsizes of having so many devices with the same platform. You can root for one device, but it certainly won't work for all, or all the different carriers either. Couple more to try before I decide to give up and pack it in. Never had this much trouble with my other phone...

SOLVED!!!

Wow, thank you. This seems to have worked beautifully. I am now rooted and have the Super User Permissions application on my Hero. Kudos for the link and the creator of the apk!

Want to root finally

I've had my G1 since Christmas of 08 and I finally decided to root. I jailbroke my ipod touch, and I heard rooting is similar to that, so i'm up for the task. I have firmware 1.6 and build number DMD64.
What exactly do I need to do, and what is the best rom to date that is good to use?

Don't mean to be rude but did you read this before clicking New Thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543081
Did you search or anything?
You won't get anyone here that's going to hold your hand or do it for you because in the twenty or so minutes that you waiting for the answer to be handed to you you could have found it for yourself by reading the above link and/or searching. So you are in actually just wasting your time posting your question. By the way since you are obviously new to XDA here's a fair warning. There are three types of people on here... those that help, those that are idle (just read but don't post) and those that need everything done for them. What kind do you think your first impression made and what kind of people do you think get flammed by the Senior Members that spend hours every week helping people like yourself by answering the same questions over and over again even after it's already been answered. And you're probably thinking "Instead of writing out this whole damn thing, why didn't he just tell me the answer?" Well because if you don't learn this way you're only going to rely on us from here on out if you are spoon fed. Again, I'm not trying to be a d!ck but if you want to make it here on XDA you have to play by the rules. Happy rooting!

A rooted phone is timeless, you can have any version of Android, whenever you want it. Therefore, it makes sense that an old thread is just as good as a new thread that has the same exact information other than the rom you flash.
Ok, I finished rooting my G1 and got to the HTC v.1.5.2 screen, now i'm going to install a rom
Thanks to all of the guides and youtube videos, I now have Manup456 Eclair 2.1 V1.5 on my G1! Just going back to put back in my ringtones and files. It's like I have a brand new phone!
Havent seen this asked yet but is there a way to root your g1 without a data plan and a data block put on your service (on ATT)

"Seen" well then you were only looking for about 2 seconds then. Google it.
wow, seriously? noone can get any help any more. everyone is just such a **** these days.
anyways, you need a data plan to root ur phone. you personally don't need it, but get a friend that has a data plan and use his SIM card for the procedure. and i'm sure there are some apps that force all data to be stopped and only allow wifi. i know my hero rom has an option to disable all data except for wifi built right in. i used hero_over. but i'm sure all hero roms have that option.

Your method is probably the most "common-sense" idea. We're not being dicks, we're just sick and tired of people not searching before posting, there's about millions of pages on google on the topic but they insist on coming here anyways. He can register through wifi with adb which most people do, so this pretty much contradicts the word "need" in your first statement. I won't carry on because I don't need to because I'd be a "****".

in anycase you're wrong, I haven't seen a question asking if you can root a phone without a data plan and a data block put on your phone.. keyword: DATA BLOCK... yes I am not an idiot.. I do search, why do alot of you seniors post on Q&A with "search please" ... just to get your post count up? Seems pretty regressive on helping people in a questions section.
Thanks to the other poster XD, but isn't there an option to get around it by entering in wifi to supplement the loss of a data plan and the addition of a data block?
Yes you can use no data plan too:

But when you really think about it, what's the point of having a Dream if you don't have a data plan? The majority of what the phone does involves intensive data plan usage, and I don't know about anybody else, but I actually use my device other than sitting at my computer.
Just my two cents.

hi I'm new to this forum I just bought htc dream and I saw on youtube there's a way to get android 2.0.1 on it. Is that true? How can I do that I also saw that the camra didn't work. Is there a way to make it work? And I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong place.
well, you have to root your phone in order to get this '2.0.1' version (which isnt really it). its just being compiled from here and there.

If you bought the MyTouch with the 3.5 mm headphone jack on it then you'll have to use the Goldcard method to get root on it. Currently I have been the only person that has been successful and making a ported rom for the phone. The camera works too.
IF you have the MyTouch 1.2 AND you eventually get root via goldcard method click here for the 2.1 rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=669911
If you don't know how to make a goldcard to get root:

BEWARE! Several noobs have bricked their device because they didn't read the instructions. If you can't read and follow the instructions... get an iPhone.

Yes, there is a way to get 2.1 on your Dream. Also, camera is working now. One of them has YouTube HQ (high quality,) but I think camcorder is broken all around. Take a jump over to Dream G1 Development and take a look around. You can also try the sticky at the top of that forum called "The Rom Bible."

Dear ???? ???,
Thank you for contacting AT&T regarding removing Carrie IQ settings. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. My name is ?? ?? and I will be happy to assist you with your inquiry.
Mr. ???, I have reviewed the device specifications for the HTC Vivid and the Carrie IQ is part of the operating system of your device. If you attempt to remove this from your device per HTC technical support, this will void your warranty with AT&T and well as HTC. Will it get the same publicity, I dunno... I think this information should be forwarded to ftc.gov, fcc.gov, consumerist.com and such. This is corporate piracy of the worst kind.

[Q] Business PRL for the M8?

Does anyone happen to have PRL 52100 to upload? I'm going away this weekend to an area where there's only Verizon roaming. Would be nice to have 3G instead of 1xRTT.
I saw it on Captain Throwback's Signature and figured it was the Business PRL. If you read this post captain throwback, could you please create one of your PRL threads on the M8 forum like the other forums do? =P
I have 51100, and I believe this is for non-business accounts.
Thank you!

I was running 56018.PRL and I believe it was roaming on VZW. You just might not get Spark with it.
But my first phone broke and I have not been brave enough to run it again just yet.
52098.PRL is available too and may just be an earlier version of 52100.PRL
Either might be good enough to get by for the weekend.

The website has been down for months now, no sign of coming back up (I have been registered for a while, but that didn't help now). I can't remember why they are called "mod". I had flashed this to my Canadian Vivid (HTC Raider) and didn't use it for too long. These copies were passed on to me by another forum member (as back in that day, WCX's roms were not to be posted here). I remember him telling me that the difference between "old" and "new" are simply design features. My apologies for bumping up a rather old thread, but I've not really found anything more recent. I'll reiterate the request that was originally posted: does anyone have a copy of the old WCX Illuminati ROM for the HTC Vivid? It was the first one I ever used, and I've gone through several others since then, but frankly none of them worked as well as that one did... but sadly I can't find a copy of it anymore.
If necessary, please feel free to PM me with a link, to avoid posting a 'live' link.
