8/12 Already bought the Home Dock from Dell US - Streak 5 Accessories

Well as soon as I woke up today I went online to by some streak accessories, but while on the site I could only find the car kit. So I started a chat and they told me that the accessories were only available if you purchased a Streak at the same time. That was bs so I told the girl I bought mine from Dell.Uk ( Ebay ) and then she set me up with a purchase window. $76 later though I am feeling some buyer's remorse. I'm trying to rationalize by telling myself I will keep this phone until Froyo at least and that giving away my iPhone4 was worth it all. <sigh> So far it has been good I guess.......

Thats funny, I did the same thing!!! I had to give my wife the iPhone 4 so I could get the Streak. I pre-ordered mine as soon as I woke up!!! I was a little upset that I had to spend an additional $100 to get the home and car docks, you would think they could throw one of them in for the $300 price tag... Oh well, I cant wait until tuesday! Hopefully it will be worth every penny of the $450 I paid

Aha good thinking now every time she calls you the phone will lose signal and cut out and you won't have to talk to her...........very clever

if yours is a uk streak you can download 2.1 now? releasted today in the uk... check the other thread for the link!

I did not purchase a Streak yesterday but did indeed purchase the car docking kit and the home docking stations. Considering from the home docking station you will have hdmi out, it is well worth it
But yes a complete ripoff for just a piece of plastic. The car docking kit was a decent price

I still to this day do not know which version of the phone I have. I know it is a US version unlocked, but beta or what I do not know. Anyway, I have updated to 2.1 and I had a few problems. The best one is now my usb cable will not work....so....my streak is dead waiting for a charge on the dock that should arrive IN 5 DAYS!

The home AV dock is a quality piece of kit, way better build quality than the ones I've bought from SE & HTC in the past. Don't knock it til you've seen one! Having said that the price is still shocking
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App

I've had the home dock for about a week now and I am very happy with it. It is a quality piece of equipment. I never have to fumble getting it in there like with the regular charger. Slides right in every time! Sits perfect height next to my monitor. I love it and have almost entirely forgotten that I paid over $70 for it.

With the PDMI connector, I find it hard to connect the USB cable. I have read the reason for the PDMI, and perhaps the hard fit is to help stabalize multiple sized devices on one port.
I read that the Slacker G2 radio uses a similar/same connector and has a dock of sorts(mini usb charging and line-out) for around $30. No HDMI, but for charging on my desk, it would be nice.
Anyone know whether it will be compatible?

It's pricey, yes. But it's solid, looks very nice, it's not as annoying as plugging the cable every time, and it does not require powered-on PC to charge, or replugging to wall socket.

For angry WM folks: free adapter

Here's a tip. Go to the Sprint store and say you have the HTC Touch. Say that you want an adapter for your headphones. They will give you a free adapter (dual usb + audio jack) which is compatible with the kaiser / tilt.
Now maybe you all can go jogging and burn off some of that fascist love of MS.
can anybody else confirm this? i may call our local store and ask about it before i waste my gas with a 20 minute drive but some more confirmation would be nice
doubt anybody will give anything without some confirmation and for free lol.
I give stuff away free all the time. Worthless advice.
....or you could just buy one on Amazon.com for 3 whole dollars and 28 cents......even with shipping, it comes to under $5.........that's probably cheaper than it would cost you to drive to your Sprint store anyway.

WELL SAID,
Why is it people are always trying to scam someone.
well the ATT wireless store does not have audio adapters or headphones for the tilt, nor does frys, and amazon wants $18 + shipping. its not official, just a tip on the DL, and if you want you can buy headphones at sprint to comp them (which i did btw) but the guy said i didn't have to.

Um....I'm on AT&T's site right now...and they DO have headphones for the tilt....and earlier in this very thread I posted a link to amazon that has adapters for less than $5 AFTER shipping (and that adapter works very well, I might add).......so what are you even talking about?
The point is, if you want them then why don't you just buy them instead of trying to figure out a way to scam someone so that you can save five whole dollars.
dude you have to ship from the website vs. going to the store. i don't care to wait 5+ days. Valt go jogging buddy, you need it

I had one of these adapters. It fit so tight in the mini-USB socket that it broke off when removal was attempted - I had to carefully extract pieces with fine needle-nose pliers.
Better off with Y-splitter type adapter, IMO - this will also work with some cases, where I have never seen a case that would possibly work with the above adapter. YMMV.

Perhaps you should take a little time and read you 9 posts thus far. As far as i can tell you've posted complaints about microsoft, a way to scam sprint for a free adapter that you could buy for $5 easily, and you have argued with people.
If you can't figure out why these "grumpy folks" don't think that your "tip" of going to a store and lying to get something for free cancels out your otherwise pissy attitude, then i suppose there isn't much value in explaining it.

Touch Pro Docking Station and Batteries CHEAP

Hi everyone...
It seems that no one really posts about good deals on accessories on here, so I thought I would pass on my story... I ordered a docking cradle and spare batteries from bargaincell.com .... They have the docking station on sale for $5.. it is a charging/syncing/spare battery charger in one... They also have non-OEM batteries for $8... In my household we have in total 3 touch pro variants so we picked up cradles and battieres all around... If your total purchase is over $25, you get free shipping with coupon code FREESHIP25 .....
Even if you only have one Touch Pro/Fuze.... I am sure you could spend $25 if you pick up a few batteries, screen protectors, or other accessories... Over all I would give the company a 4 out of 5.. I got the products in just over a week w/ the free shipping... But they are very slow at responding to emails...I tested the cradle with a US Cellular, Sprint, and AT&T varients and all worked fine... same with the batteries....
Below are links to the exact products I bought...
Cradle - http://www.bargaincell.com/index.ph...o&cPath=2830_2890_6125_6487&products_id=13586

I havne;t had it long so I can't comment on the battery too much, but so far it works fine.. and even if you just get the cradle.... for just $5 and it comes with the USB plug as well as a wall plug that you can use as a travel charger by itself..... Well worth it...

Cheap(er) USB Cable?

Anyone know if there's one for sale?
I've looked on various sites and the cheapest i found was £20, which i'm NOT paying for a USB cable
The cable that came with my phone broke VERY easily and now i'm left with a dead streak and no way to charge it!
The fact that Dell is charging £25 for a cable is just disgusting
Cheers guys.
Not yet, but some day when other manufacturers see sense and use pdmi connectors.

Yea, I'm dying to get another usb cable or two so I don't have to carry mine around everywhere I go... I was hoping, since they're selling the streak at best buy, soon I'll be able to get one there...???

As the OP is in the UK (or at least quoted prices in Sterling), they would be covered under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 for at least 12 months (and possibly as long as 6 years, given the cost of the cable).
It doesn't help the data connectivity but, you could get a desktop battery charger from eBay, I've just seen one there for £3.99 I just searched eBay for "Dell Streak Battery" and it came up in the results.
HTH.

I've had to get a friend in the USA to get me a car cradle kit from DELL USA and send it to me in Australia. Just got of the phone to OPTUS and Chat with DELL AUST and neither intends on selling accessories for the Streak in Australia.

All of the items could be found on the net in various locations, and for varied prices, but never saw a Dell/US page for it. One guy on ebay is selling all of this stuff out of his online store for $30 - $40 more expensive than Dell. For months I was looking for a second charging cable and $40-ish was too spensive for me. Now that Dell finally has this page up, $19.99 is not too bad a price.

Supply and demand my brothers, I suppose there hasn't been enough streak activity out there as yet to warrant the entrepreneurs in China to make a 10 dollar cable and then a 5 dollar one and then a.... well you get the point. Dell is enjoying this fan fare right now since no other device uses this PDMI connection, well that I know of at least. I bought the $30 set with the extra plug since the usb only works with computers or Dells charger. what a rip off.
Mobilefun were quite bad too!
When official Dell website were selling the car kit for £35, they had it for £61.99!!!
They have updated now to sell it for £39.95 - supposedly saving 36% - Hah!
(Although I am happy with the Dash Genie I bought from them, although it should not be as much as £17.50)
I still don't get why we've not seen the cheaper accessories appear yet for the streak. I had to buy USB N adapter from eBay, not bad for £25.. but I've noticed on my original one that I've had since June not looking so great at the bit where the cable joins the connector. Mind you in all fairness I do charge it quite a lot as I'm always doing something on the phone.

Streak Charging cable...

***UPDATED in post #40 & #58.....THEY WORK!!!***
Have to wait until the CNY (Chinese New Year) is over to get it in, but after sending an OEM cable & spec'ing the cable with one of my contract manufacturers in China..we should finally have an economical solution Especially for those of you outside of the US (since it seems you pay more).
The finished cable (30pin PDMI to USB) sample should be sent to me on the 14th of Feb, and will take a few days to get here (US). Once it does, and is tested to work...I will be placing a large qty order. They also have compatible car charger adaptors, but not sure I want to pick those up as well. Have to wait and see how well the cables are received by the community.
I'll update the thread when I get the sample in.
Hope they work! If they do you can count on me to order at least 2, you can never have too many cables!
count me in also,
Sounds great. Any idea of price at this point?
Swyped using XDA App
It would be nice to have an AV dock that also will compete with the official Dell's than getting a Slacker G2 that isn't made for the Streak
+1 If the price is right and they work, I'm interested.
Thanks for the post!
I'd be interested as well.
Tag me in for 4 of them
very cool.. I sucked it up and ordered an extra cable, car dock, and slacker dock.. but I might consider getting an spare in case I lose one or the one in my car finally breaks..
i would definitely buy 2 if price is right and it works
+ 1 ill be in for a few for sure
I'll definitely take one if the quality is good.

Sigh...
Feb. 14th is the date Dell just emailed me to tell me is now my new "adjusted" shipping date for the order I placed on January freaking 24th for $43.38 for 2 cables! I've NEVER in my life had to wait this long for something to ship, especially for freaking cables! They should have millions in stock! Anyway...
I'll prolly buy 1 or 2 of these cables if they're good.
Will these be longer than the 6 inch long (or should that be short?) cables Dell provides? Too short to plug into my USB port on my PC, too short to charge in my car while talking. Poor design, poor design... Dell really fell short on this phone and its accessories and advertising. I LOVE the phone, but come on...
I'd be in for an order of at least 2 also!
I also love the suggestion of a PDMI -> iPod/iPhone connector/bridge.
Ideally it could stretch across the whole bottom of the streak (or at least the width of an iPod/iPhone) the so that the streak would sit flush with any idocks.

why are samsung accessories so expensive?

I went onto the samsung website (canadian version) and checked some of the prices for note2 accessories and I was blown away how expensive they are. You'd think samsung would realize if they priced their accessories at a reasonable more people would purchase them.
for example $39.99 for their Note2 TPU cover. $49 for their MHL adapter. Before ebay or online shopping I could see companies charging these outrages prices but with ebay and the like who would buy some of this stuff from samsung when you can get less expensive versions?
Stuff up here is definitely more expensive than the states.
I know its not much of a discount but shopandroid gets sales every now and then.

This. I'm such a sucker for it.
My thought process: "Well, what's the difference between spending $200 or $300 on a phone when I'm paying thousands for the service? Might as well get the best one. And why did I buy a phone with removable battery and storage if I'm not going to buy a spare battery and spare battery charger, and a 64 gig microSD? Wow... I've got a lot invested in this thing. Better buy a case for every day use, and a tank of a case for when I go out. What's this... an app that I will use every day of my life for only $5? That's one drink out at the bars, I can swing that. An app for $0.99??? Might as well be free. Oh, and can't forget the car dock and charger, that's an essential."

Samsung is expensive because they guarantee the products will fit and work 100% with the phone plus every manufacturer always charges more for their respective products. Example: htc charged around $40 for their mhl adapter and $50 or more for their tv dock. It's just a matter of finding items cheaper and hoping that if you buy generic it won't damage your phone and fits correctly. There are plenty of reputable companies that make accessories you can count on. Like otterbox, seidio, spigen, and many others.

So you think a $50 MHL cable is fine when it probably cost them 50 cents (maybe a dollar) to make in china. I'm all for a company making money/profit but that's kind of ridiculous.
For cases, I always hit up ebay. For the same price as a retail case, you could buy a dozen and try them all out!
For cables, chargers and batteries, however, I've been very hesitant to get them "cheap" because of the risk of damaging my device. After reading an article about various chargers and usb cables which showed that the third party/counterfeit brands have no consistency to them, I've stayed with trusted oem brands.

Why are genuine apple accessories?
Why do dealerships sell spark plugs for 5 times the price of an auto store?
It's genuine oem, and they are all overpriced.

for example $39.99 for their Note2 TPU cover. $49 for their MHL adapter. Before ebay or online shopping I could see companies charging these outrages prices but with ebay and the like who would buy some of this stuff from samsung when you can get less expensive versions?
