Rooting and Band Selection

I have exhausted every option known to me trying to get access to manual network band selection on the Captivate. The usual codes take me to the correct place, but I get an error message saying it's restricted. My question is will rooting the phone give me access to those menu options? I want the ability to lock the phone to GSM/EDGE or WCDMA at will. If anyone knows a solution to this, please let me know. To clarify: I am not looking to just turn off data and the *#*#info#*#* route doesn't work. Thanks.
Can anyone with a rooted Captivate confirm that you can or cannot access the menu to lock to GSM?

Hi,
No need to Root the phone at all. Just dial *#*#4636#*#* then click on "phone Information" scroll down to the drop down menu & click on it, click on "WCDMA" only & go back. done

What do you mean by "it does nothign"? I did it & working.
Setting 3G only or 2G only
I found out that if you go into the dialer and type in *#*#197328640#*#* that it will take you into a menu that will allow you to change it. From the main menu of the ServiceMode screen, select DEBUG SCREEN, then PHONE CONTROL at the bottom, then UE STATE CONTROL. From there select CHANGE RAT TO WCDMA to enable 3G only, and select CHANGE RAT TO GSM for 2G only.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Doesn't survive a reboot but it's a start.

thanks for this.
but to take this a bit further, is there any way to automate this via a widget?
^Not from a widget in the market
They tend to wind up turning data off all together. Im sure it can be done though

Phone settings, wireless and network, network mode. I don't know if it's present in all roms though. There you can change the network band type

You have been mixed up....
Clear your mind,
*#????# - service menu is service menu,
root is root,
These are two different thing.
I'm not sure if band selection is disabled on all Captivate roms (it definitely is on some) but I have ran a number of I9000-based ones, all of which permitted band selection. Try dialing *#2263# to enter service mode and see if you're able to select the desired band. I'm using Perception 10.1, on which I can use this to modify the band settings and it is retained through a reboot.
I'm running perception 10 and there is an option in settings>wireless and network>mobile network>network mode> wcdma only or GSM only or auto.

Band selection in settings is only in I9000-based roms!!! It's non-available in Cappy-based roms!

I agree and tried but google really doesn't like when you put * or # in the search bar. Even with quotes around them.
There's some listed on the Wikipedia n1 page...

[Q] Samsung Focus S diagnostic codes?

Has anyone found any of the codes for the Focus S to use in the diagnosis app? My sound seems very low and I know on my Focus when I got in and changed the sound settings it really increased the volume.
No know way to access diagnostic settings at this time.
Sent from my SGH-i937 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
You can still get to the diagnosis menu by typing in ##634# in the phone dialer just like before. At least this works with a Focus S that I have access to. Some of the codes still work too like for USB tethering and battery information but I'm not sure about the audio configuration. That's not one that I ever messed with when I had chances to mess with the old and the new Focus.
As mentioned, you should be able to access the diag codes from your Focus S, but not all codes are accessable. I've been going through the code list to see what works, but I havent had time to list my findings. Seems that the lions share of these settings do not launch.
It's important that folks read this, imo.

I got into the menu when I got the phone last month but just wanted to adjust the volume as it appears to be lower than my Focus after I adjusted the sound settings in the diag menu. Thanks for the help.
This code from a Samsung focus works:
*#197328640#

unfortunately it is probably because the focus S' hardware is different from the focus. so the diagnosis app will get that menu but since there is no driver associated with it there is no menu.
maybe we can look in the windows phone registry for volume settings?
Is this still a dead end? Really need this volume boosted on Focus S

Working Dialer codes

On my quest to find the SIM unlock for this phone I've started testing all the dialer codes I can find. I haven't found what I'm looking for yet, but these might be useful to you guys for other purposes.

##RTN# - complete factory restore, requires MSL
##72RTN# - clears provisioning data, doesn't require MSL, automatically reboots and reactivates
OP please keep your post updated for easier reference.

Glad it helped. There really should be a master list of these dialing codes. One that has helped me greatly is the one that clears GPS data (for when GPS won't lock)
*#03# NandFlashHeaderRead
NAND Flash Unique Number
15 Digit HEX Value
Used to prevent Nandroid backup being transferred to another device???
EDIT: Does not seem to work anymore after MF9 update

Not sure how "Master" of a list it is, but thought it was worth noting here.

How to access ServiceMode on Samsung Galaxy S6 Active?

I've tried most of the codes that I could find in order to access Service Mode/Menu on S6 Active but no luck so far.
If anyone was able to access it please put the code(s) here.
Thanks
*#0011"
I still await for a code(s) to have acces to the Full Service Mode
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using XDA Free mobile app
what part of the service menu are you trying to access? *#2263# opens network setting and *#9090# opens another service menu but its blank but if you hit menu then select back then menu again and hit key input and inter Q then key select again and enter 0000 it will open DIAG control.
Are u talking about the hardware and sensors testing? Thats *#0*#
2263 is the right code but AFAIK you need root to launch the code. I used Phone INFO before to do that in my S6, so I supposed it should be the same with the Active.
*#2263# - it's blank
*#*#4636#*#* - network settings
I'm looking to get to the Main Service Mode menu. For example on SG S4 it was *#0011# and then Q0000,but it's not the same for SG S6 Active.
There's no root yet for this device so Phone Info app is not working either.
