Manually Load a PRL? - Droid X Android Development

On the droid incredible forum they have figured out how to load up the EPST.apk and manually load PRL's. This has enabled many to load hybrid PRL's so that roaming on Sprints EVDO network is possible. The same instructions do not seem to work on the Droid X. Has anyone figured out how to load a manual PRL file aside from *228? Such an ability would do wonders for our signal strength.
Heres the link.

I'd like to know this too. I tried ##778 like on the eris, but sadly it was a bust. I live in an area with lots of Alltel coverage and the hybrid prl of alltel towers and vzw added a good 2 bars to my signal.

Yeah same here. I'm sure a way will be found eventually.
BTW, We don't go to Ravenholm.

Odds are if it is like any other Moto device you'd need to upload it using QPST. I haven't used QPST in a while myself so I'm not sure the setup needed for use on an Android device. I only used it back in the days of hacking all the Moto dumbphones on VZW to use other software instead of there garbage OS they use to put on devices. However I do know I've seen it posted on the web that people were using QPST with the Droid when it was released.

I know that loading an Alltel PRL might not be possible on the Droid X right now, but here's a simple work around.
If you're still on an Alltel plan, as in you were grand-fathered in, you can request to be put on hybrid PRL with Alltel preference. Basically, your phone will use Alltel's system ID in your area.
I live in the Tampa area, VZW's SID is 4192, Alltel's was 42. Being on a seldom used network does get better signal in most cases.

Use qpst.

My phone is currently rooted but, the PRL is setup for Criket. When i dial *228 to program the phone it dials to criket.
Im needing i guess to change the PRL in the phone to get it to dial to verizon so i can activate it for there service.
ive been on the phone with verizon tech support and tried manual change and everything else and nothing worked.
Is there anyway i can do this ???
used CDMA workshop to redo back to Verizon.
THANK YOU !! QIPENGART
i called around to differnet verizon stores and I finally found a verizon tech that would try it flashing the phone and it worked ! sheww.. this has been a battle. anyways... thanks again

[Q] Need help with Verizon Droid Basebands

Hey Folks,
I got anxious and thought flashing a new baseband would give me the edge in my area. Well, the original baseband I had on my Droid was the c_1.07.00R....
I tried flashing the following:
C_1.3E.01P
C_1.3E.01E
C_01.41.00R
C_01.43.01P
From http://download.peteralfonso.com/sholes
Now, I don't get ANY mobile data connections. Looks like the baseband has stopped working. WiFi is fine. I have Verizon service, and live in a slightly remote area that was once popular with Alltel. I'm guessing the radios in my area haven't been updated with LTE or the new technology...
Now, to my question. Does anyone have a link or file for the C_1.07.00R baseband?? Or do I flash an original ROM to attempt a baseband switch??
So far (in my reading), it seems ROMs don't affect Basebands. Is there an .SBF that would fix my issues?? I need to read more on .SBFs. BTW, I feel comfortable using ADB.
\_/\_/ Cheers for any info or help!!
Well... no response from the forum! I found that if you reload an original image through a .SBF file, you can restore the A854 baseband to 1.07.00R.
Unfortunately, this didn't resolve my mobile data network connection issue. Keep in mind there are several Droids out there... Verizon, Alltel, European, Asian, Australian... A853, A854, A855 ffffffuuuuuuuuu.....
Verizon is sending me a new phone; Droid2 replacement. Hopefully, I can keep this one going. READ!!! READ!!!! READ!!!! Learn everything before doing anything.
Peter Alfonso's basebands are specifically Verizon's Basebands for the Motorola Droid (A855). It is not known as the Droid on any other carrier.
Also, after flashing a new Baseband, it clears any PRL information, so you must dial *228 to reconfigure the PRL for the phone. You will then get all voice/data services after that.
I have the same issue on my VERIZON Motorola Droid A855
I have the same issue I even Reinstalled the Default image
VZW_A855_FRG22D_QSC6085BP_C_01.43.01P_SW_UPDATE_01 and even went back tro the default baseband then went out and did a*228 and option 1 and still no mobile data connection when I try to do a *#*#4636#*#* and go into Phone Information and tried several of the Network types
1) CDMA Auto(PRL)
2) GSM/CDMA Auto(PRL)
3) CDMA Only
4) EvDO Only
Then after each on of those I would go down to menu and "select radio band" I tried
USA and Auto and got this error message Set [Automatic] unsucessfull and Set [USA] unsucessfull I'm starting to think this is a hardware issue possibly from overclocking it I had it set to min 250Mhz and max 800Mhz or it's some setting somewhere deep in the Android OS that needs to be reset I'm still troubleshooting but everything else on my droid is working great.
This shouldn't be related to overclocking, I think. It's something about CPU, not radio.

[Q] 883 radio image and verizon

Hi my question is if I flashed the 883 radio image to my xt862 droid 3 will my phone still work on verizon as long as I do not put a gsm sim card in the phone. My phone is sim unlocked so it can work outside us with a sim but I would like for now the option of att prepaid like h2o or straight talk for $45 a month while in us and I have seen many people talking of how to flash 883 and phone works on att but nobody says if it still functions on verizon still. So I guess my main point to the question is if flash the radio image 883 will my phone still work as it does now with verizon but then if I pick up a prepaid sim card and put it in and select gsm for network it will function on the prepaid network till I remove it and then can I put the network settings back. The reason I ask it I still have 1yr and 2month till my contract is up with verizon and I would like to have the phone on att pre paid or straight talk after that to save money I love the phone but hate the cost of verizon and the data limits.
Thank you for any and all imput. Dennis
No but you can flash radios back and forth and change build.prop as needed and it seems to work.

883 and verizon
Thank you for the quick response and it is as I feared. Lol I guess all I can do is get all the files and info I will need and wait till my contract is up b4 I do it I am stuck on verizon for another yr and 2 months then I will flash it so I can save money. Again thank you for the clarity on this
Actually, the answer is yes, the XT883 radio can be programmed with QPST using a service programming file with VZW authentication values and PRL and it functions in Global mode with full CDMA/EvDO service and can be switched via the Mobile Networks menu to GSM.
I had my D3 setup like this although it was not activated on VZW at the time.

[Q] CDMA and GSM simultaneously Droid 3 ?

Hi ok I can't seem to find an EXACT answer to this question, I have the Droid 3 System Version 5.7.906.XT862.Verizon.en.US with Android Version 2.3.4. I am not a VZW customer my carrier simply uses them, ergo none of the VZW apps work etc (thank god) anyways I also have no data, I am only on unlimited talk and text except when there is a glitch and I get 3G once in awhile. Anyways I am thinking about getting a NET10 sim for this phone and a separate number, I would ONLY be using it for data. In my research this phone does have the options to change to GSM/UMTS CDMA or Global, question is can I drop that sim in switch my radio to run data etc then switch back for regular phone? This phone is NOT rooted, I can't seem to root it using any number of the one click options and a few others, flashing the rom is over my head, yes I am using the original Motorola cable, yes I have the right drivers installed, yes I have tried w7 32/64 xp pro 32/64 no dice it appears I have that dang patch which makes me very hesitant to try and fiddle with command stuff and possibly brick my only phone. Any ideas? Thank You

Anyway, on system 906, only Motofail will root it, it's a simple one-click method (quick-search the forum for the motofail exe), as for simultaneous GSM/CDMA, that is a no-go for USA carriers. Verizon placed an MNC ban on all US GSM carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc and their partners, I think all MNCs starting with 310) This includes resellers, such as Net10/Tracfone/Straight Talk (all the same company, América Móvil, based in Mexico City, Mexico.) To use US GSM networks, you must flash the chinese XT883 radio (The XT883 is the exact same phone, just a chinese model) and thus does not have the MNC ban the stock radio has. Although, this breaks CDMA in the US, so you can't have both at once. You must swap the radio between XT862 and XT883 for CDMA and GSM respectively. If outside of the US, the stock XT862 radio works flawless with foreign GSM networks, long as you have the proper APN (for data).
This thread has all the information pertaining to flashing the XT883 radio, and you can ask me for personal advice, I use it with Straight Talk's SIM program using an AT&T compatible SIM. It works great, I pull an average of 5Mbps download, 1Mbps upload, and I get AT&T's roaming partners as well. Although on my "CDMA Side" I have a Page Plus number attached to my ESN (PP is a Verizon reseller, which is cheaper than Verizon itself), incase I find myself somewhere without AT&T coverage, I just flash the stock radio + build.prop, suddenly back on verizon.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, even with the XT883 radio, you MUST SIM unlock the phone. Either by contacting Verizon (with an account in good standing, ask a friend if needed) OR buy the code from an online dealer (I've heard good things from unlock4moto), though it's approximated ~30% of codes have been changed by Verizon so third party codes may not work. You only have to unlock once, no amount of flashing, etc will reverse that. It also increases resale value.

Ok great I will try motofail and see where that leads. I was afraid that GSM was an issue, my unlimited talk and text is only $26.50 a month but not even pix messeging which is a pain and that I need, not so much "data" per say just would like to run emails once or so a day if I am not at the box etc. Looks like I may have to decide to dump entirely my cheap service although I am *****ing maybe that will get me somewhere some time LOL. Thanx much

You can try Page Plus, they allow any verizon phone and data works perfectly (from personal experience with a Droid 2, Droid X, and the Droid 3 on the service). They have (my favorite) Talk 'n' Text 1200, which is 1200 mins, 3000 SMS/MMS, and 100MBs of data (Although I got an email that after Oct. 31, they're upping the data to 250MBs) for only 29.95 per month prepaid.
This is the main website, but there are many authorized dealers (just google up a few). Glance at their plans, but keep in mind data on the TnT 1200 data is moving up from 100MB to 250MB, Unlimited TnT data is moving from 100MB to 200MB, and overages on talk/text/data are all moving down (I think leveling all three at 5 cents per minute/text/mms/MB of data).
You should try a prepaid GSM.

You can try getting the app "Anycut" from the market and make a shortcut to APNs. This is the only way I know of to get to the APN settings while in CDMA mode.

Will a Verizon X work on T-mobile?

I am ready for a new phone, but would like to be done with Verizon once they take away my unlimited plan. I read a few posts where it is said that the cdma phones would work on T-Mobile, the carrier I will be going to next. Can anyone confirm or deny the ability to use on both networks?
Thanks
Yes a Verizon Moto X will work on T-Mobile as it is SIM unlocked and supports band 4 LTE. It should be noted that it doesn't support AWS 3G which is the main band T-Mobile uses for their 3G service. If you are in a refarmed market then they will also offer 3G service on the PCS band which the Verizon Moto X does support. Most major cities are refarmed so as long as you are okay with the risk of ending up on 2G more often then you would on a T-Mobile Moto X then you should be okay. From my understanding T-Mobile is working on having almost all of their 3G service on the PCS band in order to free up AWS spectrum for LTE so this issue should become less of an issue over time.
With kit Kat on my vzw x, when I put my T-Mobile Sim in, I must manually enter T-Mobile APN settings to get working data and SMS. I haven't tried MMS.
With 4.2.2 Roms (version that the phone came with plus camera ota) APN settings came down automatically.
I get h+ in refarmed area.

Wow, that's interesting. Also interesting that the top section specifically references Band 4, yet the actual spectrum is not called out in the technical section below.
Thanks for the info. This is a surprisingly network-flexible phone... not used to that with Verizon phones.

Most of the upper level Verizon LTE phones released this year save the HTC One support band 4 either out of the box or will get a software update for it. Verizon is supposed to be making a big push over the next few months to add band 4 LTE service which is much needed here in Houston as our band 13 LTE service is so overloaded that sometimes I am lucky to top 3-4mbps.
Quite possible that Band 4 support was added in one of the updates that was pushed out, so most documentation wouldn't reference it. Best place to check would be the FCC docs when they tested the phone.

I put a T-mobile SIM in my stock 16GB Verizon Moto x. Here is what works and doesn't.
First off, 4G works! in the South Jersey area and it is Blistering fast, I have exceeded 40MB speed test downloads twice, Several in the high 30s and I am avg in mid 20s. Uploads are averaging 20+/- . Compared to Verizon this is like comparing Fios to 1999 era dial up. the best I ever got on Verizon 4G was 14 download but average between 4 and 9 !
The Network notification switches a lot between 4G, "H" mode, whatever that is, just bars and another which I didn't catch quick enough to read ?
Battery has been amazing compared to my galaxy Nexus, I got 7.5 hours of Actual "Screen on Time" which included some GPS use and an hour of music streaming total phone up time was 34+ hours. How long it will perform like this is anyone's guess, today i got about 6.5 of Screen on time. I hope this inst a trend
Now for the bad news - Using it as a Phone. Incoming calls are fine but, making outgoing is a Pain in the A$$.
When I dial a number, (which is a hassle on this KitKat dialer) it often goes to the home screen or back to the dialer. The Call Fails. I am not sure if my dialer is buggy or its a compatibility problem. the KitKat Dialer on the Moto X is an exorcise in futility. Google are you listening? Why reinvent the wheel. All I want in my Dialer is a Number Pad! and a phone book.
When I Open dialer I see Recent calls up top, the whole middle section says all contacts and is otherwise blank, the bottom has the number pad icon, History and settings dots.
Clicking the number pad icon enlarges the bottom section, which then goes all white and removes the three icons. I have to then click the back arrow and re-click the number pad icon to bring it up the actual dialer. .
At this time I can dial. and then the call always fails on the first attempt. Sometimes it takes several attempts to go through.
When I click send on the dialer the 4G disappears and I am left with just the bars. they come back when call is done but sometimes take a few minutes to do so.
If you Kill the dialer app or swipe it away, coming back to it you will have the same issues when trying to get the number pad (two attempts) if you dont, the number pad will open on first attempt. but the calls will still fail on the first try.
I also cant use the internet when in a call, whether WiFi is on or off. Is this a T-mobile problem? I could use the net in Verizon when in a call when on 4G or WiFi
The Data is set to global mode but I have tried both the other settings. On boot up I get a warning saying the SIM is not recognized which I just swipe away.
I am also having this problem. After making a call, the music player and the phones "volume" aspects cease to work., Meaning, I get no sound out of the phone, Music, notifications alarms etc.. This happens almost every time and the only fix is a reboot
I disabled all Verizon Bloat and a lot of Moto Bloat as well This could be causing some of the bugs? But i have tested several different configurations all with the same outcomes.
Hope this helps and puts an end to the - Will it work or not questions. There seem to be a lot of Net Know it all's that flat out say a Verizon Moto x wont work with a T-Mobile SIM or some other undocumented "fact"
Would a verizon sim work in a sprint or T-moblie phone?

no because the sprint x is sim locked and doesn't use the same cdma setup, and the t-mobile doesn't support cdma/evdo that verizon uses for voice and 3g data
