First of all, that's ADW Launcher. Completely different than Lancher Pro. Second, if you watc, he chooses the default launcher not ADW. That is what the stock froyo launcher looks like. This means its probably an ASOP Rom. Beautiful stuff there.

Sapphire was, in my opinion, a sweet Droid ROM, so I am quite optimistic about this.

Can't wait!

It will indeed be a vanilla rom. Birdman is also coming out with a couple and so is ChevyNo1 and possibly UD.

Here's a little more info on the Obsidian ROM.
http://www.ccroms.net/drupal/

"Obsidian is our previously secret project for making a rom for the Droid X. With this proof of concept we hope to be able to ask our friends and Droid X hopefuls to help us get a Droid X to develop on. We have done this before, and with the coming release of Ruby we are making good on our promise that was previously made to produce a rom on a new device. So we are once again asking, help us get a Droid X so that we can produce a rom for the Droid X, and hopefully we will be the first!
Any amount no matter how small is welcome and appreciated! Thank you in advance! Donate Link Specifically for the Droid X
Proof of concept video below:"
Sketchy. A Droid X to develop on, yet there is one in the video running this "proof of concept"? Money is required to further the cause? I'm not swayed yet.

These guys are pretty well known in the dev community and are the makers of the Sapphire ROM for the Droid1, I really doubt they are doing anything "sketchy". Also, what makes you think that they don't know anyone that owns at DX? They are asking for donations so they have their own DX to develop ROMs on for us.

I agree. My positive prior experience with Sapphire gives me a bit of confidence in these guys. However, the whole jake day DI root fiasco reinforced why I don't donate until an actual working product or service is available

Lookslike everybody is following the alldroid/birdman method

porting cm6 to droid x

has anyone ever talked about doing this?..i know team douche isnt working with the X but id love to see cm6 on the x...but i dont have the brain to pull it off..or even know if it could be pulled off?

bumping to and why?...ive seen one post about this and it was like 4 months ago...
I had cyanogen on my eris and i loved it. CM6 on the X would rock! Im sure it is a daunting task with the way the X is locked down. Someone has to figure it is a challenge worth undertaking at some point.
i think one of the main reasons they cant is because you cant flash custom kernels on the X..but i would die for some cm6 love on the X

Can't be done until bootloader is unlocked....search and read before pointless threads.
Just an FYI... Its in the works. Obviously we wont have everything CM6 has because of the kernel issues, but we will have a lot. And its being worked on right now. So, this thread isn't useless
Its just gonna be a while, so dont hold your breath.

My point should of been that You could do some searching or research and get ur answer easily.
CM6 Roms are not possible for us right now because we can't load a custom kernel on our devices.
We should be able to eventually get a mostly all AOSP ROM on our phones, but it will never be truely built from source until we can load a custom made kernel and break the bootloader.
Most of the great stuff in CM Roms is reliant on Koushs and other teamsouche memnlbers custom kernels...so having a CM6 Rom on our Droid X without a custom kernel is kinda lame....cool still....but would be missing all the great stuff CM6 has to offer...hence why CM6 doesn't support our Droid X right now.
Shoulda just answered u in the first place....sorry bout that been having a bad week and shouldn't of been a dbag about it.

What good is a forum if we cant talk about stuff thats developing? I agree, its gonna be kinda lame without the kernel mods, and it wont be official, but SUPPOSEDLY someone I talk to is doing what they can with what we are given to work with.

Obsidian beta released

Here it is, but be careful it doesn'tplay nice with Koush's Bootstrap Recovery.
Camera, video and GPS don't work.
Have fun!
Sorry can't make this a hot link:
wiki.ccroms.net/obsidian/releases/2.0.0
Doesn't just not play nice with Bootstrap - Bootstrap can't be used at all! If you want to get into Clockwork you have to do it from the power menu it seems. I'm going to let the rom hackers play with this for a while, see if they can fix the issues before I jump in.

It's 100% AOSP at the system level. No Blur hooks at all. Still a Motorola kernel though, can't much help that.
Link is listed in the first post! Hot link in the second post
How come every other ROM has the GPS, Camera, and Camcorder working while this one has been in development the longest and doesn't have them working?

those three things are the hardest to get working when making aosp and cm work with android. i saw that in the droid and it happened all the time with the eris. Give it about 2 weeks and the gps should be working and shortly after that the camera will work. that is usually the norm.
Has a camera app from the market been tried yet? we use to use cameramajic for the eris. until the camera was fixed.
This rom is completely compiled and built from source . Its all AOSP at the system level, meaning it is not a blur rom with aosp apps and an aosp theme. Its the real deal aside from the stock moto kernel which could be causing some of the issues with gps etc.

Granted there haven't been any full 100% aosp builds but I think the "trash"comment is a bit harsh. When in fact team defuse, fab, kejar, drod, ultimatedroid, lexusbrian, birdman and so on have given us some good solid alternatives to the stock blur fiasco. We have an encrypted/ locked boot loader with a proprietary UI woven throughout our device. So I think alot of these devs have done an amaving job working around these massive roadblocks. So be grateful or crack the encrypted boot loader.

Apex is still pretty set into Blur. You have to look at Fission, GummyJAR, or other AOSP-like roms to see what you would gain. It's mostly losing the Motorola/Verizon installed junk, freeing up memory and getting a nicer base to install apps on. For example: the Facebook app doesn't let you sync contacts on the stock software on the Droid X/2/2G/Pro because Blur has its own Facebook implementation. AOSP builds let the app do its thing.

[ROM][OMFGB 1.1 - Stable!] Gingerbread Rom for Inc

Just flashed the latest OMFGB 1.1 Rom to my incredible. Everything is working and is blazingly fast. Using Launcher Pro for my Launcher. A great build and definitely recommend it! Seems to be the first Stable build of Gingerbread for the Incredible.
I have to say, I haven't used OMGB or OMFGB, but I run the Cyanogen nightly #10, and was very impressed at how stable it is. I'm only back on a Sense rom because I have to find alternatives to 2 of my apps that aren't update for GB yet......

I'm a nexus owner. If you've ever been to the N1 Dev section, you'd see that a fair percentage of the roms there were stolen work. Half of those are CM kang-bangs. My point is, I can wade through the bullsh*t.

CM7 is open sourced, just like anything and everything AOSP, hence the "OS" part. I really can't endure another thread where devs are bashed. If you don't like it, great. You don't have to post it, you don't even have to enter the thread or make comments aiming towards dissuading people from using the ROM in the OP.
Think about it from the standpoint of a human being: Do you really like hearing the same negativity about the same devs?
"...flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior."
For the sake of this ROM's thread, which I have been anxiously awaiting, please direct your slander elsewhere.

Personally, I think all the roms are good only for making motorola look bad. We have gingerbreag before they've even managed to bring out froyo. It's a joke, and personally, my respect for motorola is gone. I will continue happily installing custom roms onto my milestone, and motorola can go stall for another year.

Motorola is very slow on updates. I disappoint...
that's so true moto is very slow on update
looks great but i think the missing kernel (which we cant update that easily due to locked bootloader on milestone) would prevent us from using honeycomb.
we COULD use something with a froyo-kernel that LOOKS(!) like honeycomb and has most of its features, maybe.
but -just like "Gingerbread"/2.3- we will probably NEVER get the REAL thing... only something that looks and behaves almost the same as the original (like Gingerbread).
yeah, just in case some people didnĀ“t know that - what we have is NOT real Gingerbread.
That would be sick!!

Agreed. I put it on the N1 and... Bleh. No major improvements, a few bugs I didn't have stock. I don't get all the hype, unless it's just about removing bloatware and such...which obviously wasn't an issue on the N1. So far I'm loving Ken's Alien #2, but I'm definitely tempted to try Cherry Pi.
Anyway, source release is good! Will be nice to see the talented devs go to town.

Motorola takes the source and adds Blur. Then they add AT&T cap to it. HTC does this with Sense. Samsung does it with TouchWhiz. Source is just plain, stock Android, like you'd find on a Nexus device. It makes it a lot easier for a dev to add/tweak/optimize, because you aren't having to worry about how removing Moto's messaging app breaks wifi and causes pimples.
At least, that's my "I'm not a dev, but I play one on tv" understanding.

I believe cm is great for phones with lesser power in their hardware, that yes. But for this here?! Our guys will make it scream as soon as they've managed to remove the bloat!!
Nah, I'm sticking to our own homegrown stuff..

Can someone please explain to me why the source code is needed to make custom roms?

If you've never compiled a kernel before its kind of hard to imagine, but the scope of choices available to you are ...really massive.
We have to accept kernels from Motorola which they believe is best, or perhaps they have decided to do knowing its not best (for limitation features, carrier requests, etc.)
On top of the kernel is a lot of layers also, with decisions and configurations in each area customized to the nth degree by each hand that touches it and each revision is done. Everything from the default ring tone and boot screen to the default GPS server used for looking up GPS data.
The ROM developers are able to work around, and modify a lot of things, but having the source means they can work it from 'the ground up' in their own image, removing things that have been added without merit (such as BLUR) or moving the whole thing in a new direction.
As stated at the top, if you've never compiled a kernel its kind of hard to explain but I hope that gives you some idea of the scope of what goes into 'making your phone go'.
Folks, try to keep it clean and let's stay on topic. Don't post for the sake of posting, only post if you have something important to share.
Thanks!
cyanogen doesnt support phones that does not have source code available. they only code from source. now that the source is out for the atrix, i hope cyanogen is quicker to port it, yesssss!

If you get an overclock over 1.2ghz I will be so happy. Beer money all over that.

Should this potentially mean that the CM team working for the Atrix now (aliasxerog, faux, samcripp, etc.) may have to start over now or does this just mean they can work faster, keeping what they've already done?

The kernel doesn't necessarily change all that much sometimes, so progress isn't really lost. Even still the changes can be reworked to the new source.

Yeah he said that, I think he wants to know if this may set them back...
I can't see how this could. They will just go compare what they did with the source and see if they need to make changes, and it will make the rest of it go faster. They had source for a similar device they were working off of. This will help tremendously I'm sure.
Anyone gonna be first ti put together a compile thread? I compiled my own kernel for n1 with battery tweaked driver. Can't wait to try on the ATRIX.
