We are talking "Legend" here. The article U mentioned was about someone's "Desire" to be a "Legend" And it's about OTA of their FroYo for Desire.
What we have here is RUU not OTA.

Ok I see the difference, I was counfesed because of this, and I qoute from the mentioned article:
"Owners of the HTC Desire and Legend on the Vodafone network have discovered that the “update” to their device is actually a re-branded version of the same OS they had before: Android 2.1."
No biggy

Just installed this, SMS messages bug remains where threads open at the oldest messages (top) rather than the newest (bottom). Soft rooting still works fine as did restoring settings from Titanium backup (although market links have not been restored)
Edit: market links have restored fine, it just took a few hours for it to take effect. So far the only issue Ive come across is the same old SMS bug thats been happening with recent updates

sorry about the cross post, but just wondering if this will work in an unbranded phone.
will it load vodaphone s/w?

Anyone up for rooting this so we can try it out?

To try it out you don't need a root. Just run that RUU, find ROM.zip in your home directory, extract boot.img and system.img from it and flash them via recovery.
Besides it was already told that SMS bug is still there...

Can I just confirm as I haven't yet installed any ROMs before
Do just run the RUU...exe program with phone connected or do I need to perform some other commands as you have stated above?

No, you don't need to connect your phone. Just run this RUU and when its first dialogue pops up, search your home directory for ROM.zip. Copy this ROM.zip elsewhere and then you can close RUU dialogue. You can then browse the contents of ROM.zip and extract boot.img and system.img...

Sorry I still don't understand.. when I run the RUU does it put the ROM in my windows home directory or my Android sd card?
PS I ran the RUU and I got some customer ID Error so I guess I need a goldcard to allow install.
update found rom.zip
1. run RUU and wait for first dialog window
2. search in your userprofile for rom.zip (documents & settings/userid...)
so next I have to find doco on what files I need to copy and where to put them
BTW is there a FAQ on the above procedure?

i have downgraded my phone . But it isnt rooted.
So can i just start the RUU and connect my phone ?
I neither understand the thing with rom.zip. Sorry

as I said I only partially understand the procedure but when you run the RUU.. exe
it will unpack the files in a temporary folder in your "Windows Profile"
I would simply search for rom.zip to find it.
then next step I'm still searching for details ..

as I can I add to this rom in Spanish, just the languages English, Chinese or Japanese.
I mean to change the rom, I've cooked, root, added a2sd, etc, but I must file might bring him in this rom to include other languages?
Greetings
There are my modified roms (minimum basic changes): rooted, busybox, sound bootanimation off, bash, nano, a2sd.

Hey, so I've got kind of a noob question here.. I've got a Bell Canada branded HTC Legend, I'm just wondering if that means I shouldn't/can't flash it with this Vodafone RUU?

Why would you want to do this?
2.03 is the latest version without the SMS bug, I'd suggest you to wait for Froyo unless you also root and install a 3rd party modified firmwares.
Otherwise, to flash another RUU, you need to make a gold card

Revert from custom recovery image to stock recovery image

Since I can't OTA update to FRF91 or even 85b from custom images, how do I revert back to the stock FRF83 completely?
grab a recovery out of one of the passimg files in the dev section and flash it.
Thanks, but I forgot to mention one thing: I am a complete noob.

I agree with what you're saying, but all of the PASSIMG files I've downloaded that are linked in this forum and modaco come up saying that the "Compressed (zipped) file is invalid"
Is there another way to unzip these files?? Can someone post all of the original .img files somewhere so that we dont have to continually **** around with all of this ****.

They are normal zip-files that work fine. If they are ok at the source the problem is on your end. I've never had a problem with them.
Try one of those from here. The modaco ones are correct too though.
the PASSIMG.zip files aren't actually zip files, they're "nbh" files. You can't open them up
You just put it on the sd card and boot up into bootloader and it auto loads and recovers back to stock.
Great if you have T-Mobile Nexus One since that's what's out there.
There isn't a working AT&T version that I've found.
You can open them up and extract the contents fine.
Thank you so much for this link. I'm a kind of a noob to this android thing to and I'm learning the hard way.

[GUIDE] Easiest way to unroot HTC Legend

Hi..
I decided to make an "EASY TO USE" unroot guide for the HTC Legend..
Here goes..
First..
If you want to unroot to software version 1.31
... download this file and put it in the root of your SD-card..
- This version can easily be rooted again..
If you want to unroot to software version 2.03
... download this file and put it in the root of your SD-card..
- This version will need a downgrade in order to root phone again..
When the wanted file is on your SD-card turn OFF your phone..
EDIT: *** NB: Reported in that this might not work if SD-card is partitioned with ext-partition. If not working try to use a fat32-only ***
Turn the phone ON while holding VOLUME DOWN..
The phone will detect the LEGEIMG.zip file on the SD-card and
ask you to upgrade..
Select YES.. And wait...
This should do the trick....
Nice and simple. Good work m8.
Good guide. Straight to the point. Keep up the good work.
Is there any way to. Convert the rom. Zip with the ruu to legeimg. Zip
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
Yep... extract ROM.zip from RUU and rename it to LEGEIMG.zip.
Hello,
I'm not familiar yet with rooting.
When this procedure is done, will I have a working Legend device ?
Which rom will it be running ?
How could I "upload" CyanogenMod to this rooted legend ?
I've search the web, but I do not get everything yet...
Thank you for your hep !
Yannick
Thanks for the guide, but it doesn't work for me.
"No image or wrong name!" message appears.
I've tried your first link and my own rom.zip renamed to LEGEIMG.zip .

Can someone help me with this? I keep getting an error. I can't flash the LEGEIMG.zip by reboot & vol dn+power nor by clockwork. Tried downloading the file twice, tried my extracted rom.zip and it just doesn't work.
What else can I do?
Can you post md5 of this zip?
What I did was put the file in the root of the SD Card...
Switch off the Legend and switch it on while having the Volume down button pressed. It flashes automatically.

One of two problems..
1) You did not put the download in the ROOT of your sd- card or
2) you have renamed the file..
One of these things are causing the error..
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
I'm 100% sure I haven't renamed the file and it's in the root (astro file manager shows it in /mnt/sdcard). If ROOT means sdcard top folder then there it is.
edit: clockwork says "Can't open /sdcard/LEGEIMG.zip (bad)". Hence the request for md5 - but I doubt triple download would cause some inconsistency in file.
I got CID incorect error, what does it mean?

How to flash PG32IMG files?
Sorry guys, a little new with flashing on the Incredible S. How do you apply these files? Rename it to update.zip, copy to SD card and boot in Recovery?
Name: PG32IMG.zip
Place: root of SD-card
Start bootloader, follow the instructions on screen.
Thanks!
Since I am already on it when I got the phone, I suppose this is worth to keep as a backup?
Hey timbo,
Thanks for the quick response. I followed your instructions. Booted into bootloader, it detected the file, loaded and checked. Then it fall back to the main menu. So I thought it is safe to reboot. But when I got back to my phone, its still on the old software. Did I miss anything?
Perhaps. Didn't tried it, maybe your current version number is higher than this one. Just follow my downgrade guide, but use this file instead off the one in the guide.
But I am on an European firmware 1.36.405.1. Was thinking of flashing this to get the Asian languages.
Update:
Wait a minute. Do I need goldcard to be able to flash? My phone isn't branded.

Actually no, the device is not branded. So I initially thought GoldCard is not required. But I do it anyway just make sure I don't miss out anything.
The device is on European ROM (indicated by the European languages) version 1.36.405.1. Radio seems to be up to date. So I don't know what I am missing up here.

So i have a nexus one from google and i want dutch langauge on it because my english is not good. So i found a froyo vodafone passimg and flashed that but my nexus did not get the ota to gingerbread. Does it exist? If so where can i download a Voda Gingerbread?

After using the revolutionary search engine called Google, I seem to have found a gingerbread ota that should do the trick.
Just rename it to passimg.zip and it should do the trick.

1. Rename the downloaded zip file to "Passimg.zip"
2. Place it in the root of your sdcard. That is, in no subfolder.
3. Reboot into the bootloader and it will scan for files named "passimg.zip"
4. When found, it will ask you to update or not.

---------- Post added at 06:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:24 PM ----------
After reading up a bit and doing some more googling, I seem to have found a solution as to why it wouldn't work. It seems that file you renamed as passimg.zip was actually an update zip and no passimg zip. A bit confusing at first, but this WILL (read: should) work.
Download THIS and rename passimg.zip and place in the root of your sdcard (this will revert to android 2.3.4)
Now download THIS and rename update.zip and move to the root of your sdcard
Now reboot into the bootloader, choose to apply the passimg and then enter the recovery (this will be a stock recovery solution) and flash update.zip
ALL data is flashed, the hboot is returned to stock, radio is returned to stock but the bootloader will stay unlocked if you unlocked it using the fastboot oem unlock code before.
EDIT: I don't know if this is vodafone. I just found a "generic" gingerbread, but it should have the language you prefer.

help sprint m8 confusion

Hi Guys,
I really need some help to get my phone back to stock recovery..how do I do that..i think I messed up big time..i basically have no clue about the terminology involved so is there anyway that I could explain to someone over the phone without hogging a whole thread as to what I did wrong? I have a SPRINT htc one m8 and am pretty sure after unlocking and rooting it with s off safely i messed up because i saw that new OTA update and wanted it and tried locking my bootloader back and s on again and screwed up from then on..long story
my number is 7187493223..i would happily make a donation via paypal etc to any member willing to just help me out,
Thanks
Jason
If you're on a non-HK version M8 your best bet would be to run the 1.54.651.10 RUU. It can be found in the first post of the thread below, along with directions on how to install it. This will unroot your phone and install the stock recovery.

Correct. The RUU (ROM Update Utility) will install the stock ROM and the stock recovery. It will also unroot your phone. I recommend downloading & installing HTC Sync to your computer before running the RUU, unless you've already done this. This will install drivers to your computer that may be needed for you to connect your phone and computer together.

Yes, it's your external SD card. Make sure you don't put the file in a folder, otherwise the bootloader won't find it. If all else fails you can connect your phone and computer and double-click the RUU file on your computer to run it. The RUU will need to be on your computer in order to run it.

Yes, it's your external SD card. Make sure you don't put the file in a folder, otherwise the bootloader won't find it. If all else fails you can connect your phone and computer and double-click the RUU file on your computer to run it. The RUU will need to be on your computer in order to run it.

when i do it on the phone with hboot/fastboot it says no image or wrong image..could the file be corrupted? its not in any folder,i set it outside the folder as a stand alone but for some reason the phone doesn't do anything with it,like i said,it says wrong image or no image etc..no idea what all that is..
Tell me what to do when i connect the phone and computer..while extracting also it doesn't go all the way, something about archive could be corrupted or damaged etc..

Correct. The RUU (ROM Update Utility) will install the stock ROM and the stock recovery. It will also unroot your phone. I recommend downloading & installing HTC Sync to your computer before running the RUU, unless you've already done this. This will install drivers to your computer that may be needed for you to connect your phone and computer together.

by the way i have s on and am rooted if that makes a difference..
Re-lock your bootloader. Put the RUU on your computer. Connect your phone and computer via USB cable. Reboot to the bootloader. You should see Fastboot USB highlighted in red once the connection is complete. Double-click the RUU file and follow the prompts on your computer.

Yes but I did it twice from two different mirrors and it's the same problem,so I'm guessing the original file is corrupt. :/ Theres no other place to get one is there? I googled the RUU but it's not out there except on here..

Nope, that's the only one. You might send @O.M.J. a PM regarding the issue. He's usually pretty responsive.
