[SOURCE] Supercurio's EXT4-based "Voodoo"Lag Fix - Vibrant Android Development

Hey everyone,
Seems Supercurio has finally got a beta of his true fix for the lag on Samsung Galaxy S phones. The github is below.
DO NOT FLASH ON A VIBRANT until there is a Vibrant version. This is posted so developers can take a look at the source code and start implementing it for the Vibrant.
http://github.com/voodoo-project/lagfix
Hopefully JAC can integrate this fix into his OC\Stock kernels, and we can enjoy our phones without the typical "galaxy s" lag/stuttering.
HUGE thanks to supercurio for all his hard work putting this together
EDIT: lol, guess he hasnt posted the source yet. the ramdisk is available in the download section.
Enjoy! Happy coding!

This is great news, looking forward to it!

It will take up ALL of the 2GB /data partition lol. Mostly kidding....sort of. Actually, it will change the file system of /data to EXT4 so you can use all 2GBs as originally intended, and without lag. Best permanent fix for "galaxy S" lag.....(I think the term "lag fix" is now dead btw, it has lost all meaning besides "less lag than stock")

I've yet to use one that improves the phones performance noticeably (ignoring all Quadrant results).
Really looking forward to this

Great cant wait to try this fix...... Also should I repartion my external sd card with a ext 4 for this or does this use the internal 16 gig and do it automatic...?

I don't believe anybody forgot about this, we are just patiently waiting for a final, safe version to be released. IIRC JAC was working on one but wanted to test it more. I'd rather have something take a while and be stable than have a phone that crashes or doesn't work right. Just be patient, it'll come.

I for one have not forgot about this at all, I was seriously waiting all day at work (slow day in the ITS dept. cause of the holiday) for it to come out. However I have overheard that they found some bugs, specifically dealing with flashing recovery back (correct me if I am wrong). This is the mod that I have really been anticipating, more so than almost any of then. But it will come out when it does. Next week I am going to buy some rum for eugene and jac for all their great work. But replacing rfs with ext is a huge step in the right direction and I am very excited to see the results and cannot wait to try it! It is the weekend though and they all have lives for this holiday, my phone is already rocking enough socks, I can wait a bit for a stable mod, and prefer to at that. I believe this mod will be one of the more significant that has been created so far instead of the virtual ext or external ext (currently running ext4 to my class 6 with jac's), not having to jury rig this stuff together anymore will be nice. Props to jac and eugene! (and anomalous3 too, don't know where I would be if I couldn't push apks from your deodexed rom)

And, it gets better. He seems to have found a way to correct the color by adjusting the overall color temp of the phone!!
I believe this will be implemented as well and hopefully ported over to the Vibrant. My two biggest gripes with this phone will be fixed in one fell swoop.

I just installed successfully. Still on 2.3.13.
Don't see any differences so far. I am curious about the changes too.

Oooooh a new leak! Let us know if you notice anything new.
Ok, Froyo 2.3.15 and Tranquility 2.3.5rc installed smoothly, but when I tried applying Onix Gala X theme from ROM Manager, I got stuck at the M logo. Battery pull solved the issue. So I'll try applying the theme manually.
I haven't noticed anything new so far from the short time I spent browsing around the phone. I'm dying to see the change logs lol!
Edit: manually installing Gala X theme worked =)
Edit2: I'm not sure if it was true for 2.3.13, but in this one Flash shows up in the Market.
In the market for 2.3.13 too, noticed it today .

Yes... that is exactly what I did.
Okay... Not trying to sound like an ass but this has been eating away at me for a good twelve hours or so....
You are paying for an app. Cool idea in my opinion.
You are also paying for access to mods. Not unheard of.(supporting is good)
Lots of hype for access to something no one else has.
Using the hype to, in a way, make people donate for your work that is kind of iffy. I like what those guys are trying to do but I do not like how they are doing it. I just can't quite hit on the point I am trying to make but I feel something scetchy is going on here. Thus, I go back to... Paying for an app that creates access to what they are making. Cool idea in my opinion.
God I hope I don't get flamed to hard for this.... Trying hard not to be a Debbie Downer.
Those that are satisfied with the Tranquility roms will likely donate. Although I do believe the leak itself should be available to the general public.

Dude I understand you have your opinion, but if you don't want to support, then you may just have to wait for someone else to find a leak source in one of the MOST locked down firmware arenas for android, TBH is doing an amazing job! THREE 2.2 updates before motosuck released its first!? They deserve the two bucks for the app. Mind you this is coming from a person who has only purchased one app for his droid x; the one we are talking about. Besides with all the C&D motosuck has been throwing around this is a resonable alternative to insure we get the content we want. OH! And not to mention tranquility is one of the best alternatives to motoblur out right now, $2 seems like a VERY small price to pay for no hassle dl's and quick update potential. Thank you again Team Black Hat for all the hard work! I see kernel's in the near future.... Wahoo!

GOOD WORK!
Update: Btw just noticed that this is a port of the GT-I9000 build. As much as I love CyanogenMod, I might hold this off until calling and sdcard mounting works (or when the Vibrant version from thedudesandroid is released). When the i9000 build was released, I knew that someone was working on getting it to run on the Vibrant xD

What does OFFICIAL SUPPORT mean?
LEARN BY CLICKING
An Excerpt from that link above for the lazy ones:
An “official” CyanogenMod version is one that uses our code review system, our source repository, and our mirror network. It should look, act, and feel like CM on any other device, and more importantly, it should follow our release schedules (which is a “when it’s ready” kind of thing, but we do plan our final/RC releases when we feel it’s ready). Most importantly, no major hardware functionality should be broken.

So yeah, a fully functional (expect some bugs of course, initial release) Gingerbread built from AOSP AND injected with CM7 goodness.
Per the tweets, all hardware should work.
Nightly builds will be up on Rom Manager!!
I would also expect a ton of NEW roms to be based off CM7 and a ton of new themes...

There have been reports of it working. We do not know this to be true though, and I do not mind that.

@codeworkx
@dumdidum &
@guiperpt
THANK THEM for making the Galaxy line officially supported by CyanogenMod.
We owe these guys, big time.
HERE IS THEIR PAYPAL LINK
Also, @Koush (Rom Manager) has been doing a TON to get this up and running. Let him know you appreciate it.
You may not NEED it, but get the premium version of Rom Manager to show some support.
Now, go thank those guys...
EDIT 5/19/11 4:30
INITIAL INSTALL GUIDE
Perhaps there is an easier way, I did this while sitting at a copy machine bored AND it worked flawlessly for me.
Okay, I used this DOWNLOAD LINK (same as above)
moved it to internal sd after backing everything up
rebooted into CWR (I was on Trigger)
Do a nandroid backup (if you like)
I wiped (factory/data/dalvik)
installed... let it do its thing... several reboots (NORMAL)
Once done, I watched the beauty of the boot screen.
I then let it sit....
went into Rom Manager to Download Rom...
told it I already had CWR installed, selected the "CWR 3. " option...
selected the latest google apps, downloaded, unchecked any wiping options and let it do its thing
next reboot, signed in and I am good to go.

So check there guys, i can't find it, but yeah...
@people on about the GPS and ****..
Here's something 1 person asked Atinm...
@atinm how is #vibrant done if the gps isn't working yet? Or are we in for a surprise?
reply?
@tmosto Going to mainline in no way means bug free. It just means that development will now be done on CM repositories.
Just because it's official does not mean gps will work... a huge step though.
captivatemtd is there
Well, I will be a guinea pig. I am putting it on my vibrant ASAP!

Can't wait to put this on my wife's vibrant. She's run regular D9 before and fishmans should be extra smooth.

I'm not liking your negative attitude towards fish and his work, Sombionix really liked fish's bionix's builds, master will appreciate his axura build and i'm sure he asked first as far as JCC's revival I'm sure he would be honored to have his rom re-tweaked, this was one of the best froyo roms and had phenomenal battery life but it never had the smoothness of bionix(nothing did.) trigger was close if not right on the ball as was loki and zendroid, one of the reasons JCC left was because of all the harrasment about ETA's and all of that... lets not do this to another one of our "LAST" great developers for the vibrant... he does this just as a service for us, lets not irk him off. Thanks again Fish, I'm "LOVIN" this build, it's been on my vibe since you've released it, it has all the sexiness of BFrankenstein with the incredible battery life of D9 and smoothness of Bionix, This is the best build yet, congrats man, and look forward to your axura
I second everything Gunsmith said. I love my Vibrant and I want FULL functionality, every ROM that I've flashed past 2.2 has been nothing but issues... So far Bionix (and it's variants) and Deranged ROMs have been the BEST all the way around! Thanks for all your work Fish! There are only a select few trolls that may not appreciate our work like the rest of us do!!!

Gun, you've been around her long enough to know that iwillkillyou means no harm to FISH. He jokes around like that. I'm not coming to his defense but if I don't hewillkillme. His name says it all.
For the second part. That is not ENTIRELY true. Partially yes bc at the end he was getting hounded for the final by the same people over and over (you know who you are people), but being an extremely active member in that forum (and Toxic8), I know he left b/c he had some job problems, family issues with his bro and he got an SGSII (although now his sign says he is ricking a GNex). So, yes ETAs were probably pissing him off but he mainly left to support his family, as this is all a hobby and doesn't pay the bills.
But I agree with you, his work was of the finest caliber and is and will be my got-to 2.2 ROM of choice. Either T8, D9 or Fish's version.
His last post on XDA is from Jan 4 2012 in the D9 forum,

Haven't forgot about you guys. Job I recently acquired ended as fast as I got it. LOL So I've had to focus all my attention on the house. Just landed another one to start the New Year out on and appears to be long term. Thanks for everyone's patience. Cheers!

Let's not throw the "T" word around. This forum has far fewer trolls that most and iwillkillyou isn't one. Jokester, yes but troll, nah....
Fish, keep on keepin' on.
When someone posts a line of text with no kind of emote symbols or anything it is hard to not take the text as literal. I do not know iwillkillyou nor have I ever conversed with this user. If I am the only one on this forum that does not know his/her sense of humor then I apologize for the "troll" comment, however not knowing this user or having any experience with him/her the singular statement that was posted is, in fact (for lack of a better term) "troll-like" out of personal context. I appreciate all the work that Fish has put into this phone's ROMs and so I felt compelled (as Gunsmith did) to say something. That being said, I sincerely cannot wait for a final build from Fish on this one! Great work!

Could you post links to the themes you have? I always wanted Clean & Shiny but couldnt find it for this rom. Thanks!
Thank you for the support Woodrube. My comment earlier wasn't to aggravate any one of you. I simply made a post of what I saw.
This is what I saw. Some person taking the most stable roms the vibrant has to offer and tagging them with his name. I didn't like what he was doing so I had to say something. Sure I was ignorant, I give you that but not a troll.
After that post, I checked a few of his other tweaked roms, that's when I saw he did more than just add his name. So FishmanMod I apologize.
Gunsmith_Cats as for calling me a troll, haven't you learn calling out the troll doesn't work? So next time you think someone is trolling, ignore it and move on.
