Skype - Epic 4G Themes

I came from the tp2 and skype is one the apps I used a lot. I went to the market and I couldn't find it, then went to skype site to download it and they don't support this phone yet.
Have someone found a way to get skype?
Thanks in advance

Give it time 2-3 months or maybe one more beta, it is still in pretty deep beta. But no doubt the Epic will get priority because it is designed for specifically that. I would search the Skype forums.

Nevermind. I had a brainfart. I think you might find it in evo, same section as this.
Looking to swype skype?

Thanks I just looked skype forums. I guess they want to implemente videochat on it, thas why is not there.
I'll look in the evo section, thanks!!

I download it and it give me a messange, the content is not supported on this phone. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need something else in order to install this?
Thank you.

Right now there's no real way to use Skype with an official client on the Epic without a lot of work, but you can use Skype through Nimbuzz, which is free on the market.

IM+ worked perfectly on my blackberry the last 4yrs and they have a droid client free & paid. But, it doesnt appear to connect to Skype since I have been trying it.
Besides, the droid is a rough beta compared to the look, feel and behavior of the rim version....
I believe the Verizon exclusive partnership with Skype is holding things up at this point.
Is there any stable Skype chat 3rd party client out there, i can wait for video chat by stressing Qik...
PeAce!

Thanks dude, keep us updated cause I want it bad also and it could be a big block buster item that will propel this system.
Has anyone here got Google Talk to perform video chat on the phone?
We could only get video and no sound between two laptops yesterday with GT.

IMO.im allows skype texting functionality.

Skype works... google skype lite beta 1.0.0.5... verizon paid for exclusivity is all. Bu the old beta build still works on all phones =)

Thanks I just install it but man that version is horrible I can't even call my contacts nor use my skype credit, hopefully skype will hurry up and get it back to work on all androids.

Is there a possible way to get skype fully working rather than iskoot or nimbuzz. It see Verizon app ain't working on my SGS.

good question... my skype out works on nimbuzz but no sound while talking
Indeed i tried it on iphone and its magic. Please promote this issue.

There is an older beta version out that one can test.. but I haven't tried making any calls yet.
The super old Skype Lite b=Beta is working fine on *some* SGS firmwares.
You can download it here: http://www.freewarelovers.com/android/app/skype-lite-beta
Nope.
Nimbizz just doesn't work for me, fring lost support, skype beta is only for skype to skype, and the "real" skype only works on Verizon... I was hoping that someone could crack it, but, it seems to be restricted by more than just the provider name...
They keep saying that a full version will be released later this year, but as it's a legal/political and not a technical issue, I'm not holding my breath.

Just use Sipdroid. Works like a charm and with any Sip provider, and there are a lot that are way cheaper than Skype.
Or if you are in the US just use the Google Voice app.
The issue is for non US users .

Video Chat Apps

So, I 'm looking for a video chat app that works with the Xoom and is cross-platform.
I was able to download Fring, but it FC's. Anyone got anything?
Try tango, it works for me, u can make video calls but not receive.

I use google talk. Granted the other person has to have google talk also.. but I have used it without any issues.

That's kind of the point I want FULL functionality.
I hope that's not it because that'd be sad. Any word on when Google Talk's capabilities will be ported to *all* Google Talk capable devices?
I read that Fring should have a tablet optimized app for honeycomb soon.
Tango is kinda squirrely.... it doesn't seem to want to switch between landscape and portrait like it should

a working version of skype.apk?

Does anyone have a working version of skype.apk they can post here?
Btw, i have Android 2.2 on SGT from T-mobile.
Sorry for posting in wrong category.
What's wrong with the market build?
Sent from my SGH-I987 using XDA Premium App
Are you using it? And is it version 1.0.0.983 like on the market? ppl say that video calls are not working.
Does anyone here have a fixed apk?
Does the Galaxy come with a version of Swype preinstalled??
If not then it would be considered as warez and therefore should not be posted here.
Skype. & not swype
Still Skype can be found at the market. & is working

In some countries people cannot find Skype on the Market. I'm not 100% sure but there are probably limitations... Anyway, it is easy to workaround them using MarketEnabler.

will this version is sama as the market version? cus when i using my existing skype, the front camera will be freeze after a few second ... was this is because of skype compatibility issue or the Gtab software issue ? appreciate someone can help ... thanks.
Skype doesnt support video on the Galaxy tab because they claim Froyo doesnt give access to the front camera. This is BS though, because there are many other apps that do.
Try Clearsea. Works great and there is a PC client too.

I totally agree with you. A hacked version of skype works well with FFC though rotation still needs to be worked on: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153285

Skype video chat?

Does Skype work with the front facing camera for video chat? I'm thinking of getting the D3, but have heard mixed responses as to whether skype works...
There's no video option on my installed Skype app. Disappointed.

After today's experience I am not so sure. I connected with a buddy of mine that has an iphone 4 on AT&T....we were both on wi fi....he has 15 down and 15 up....I have 50 down and 50 up.....it was super choppy.
But....when I connected to my wife's D2G it was perfect....but we were also connected to the same exact wireless. Would be interested in testing with someone else farther away that is on wi fi and then again on 3g to post actual review of Tango on the D3.
still cant believe we dont have google talk video. That was like half the reason i bought the phone!
Ok! Good news everyone
Skype video works on D3 now, but not the one verizon or the marketplace provide.
3 simple steps to have skype video:
1. Download the apk file of Skype version 2.0.0.47 from the internet
2. "Clear data" for the existing skype app on your D3 (in the app management)
3. Install the apk file and enjoy skype video on ur spanking new D3
I must say, the video quality is a lot better than my Thunderbolt. It is probably because of the 2 cores
Now, if only Google took itself more seriously... sigh!

i have found yahoo messager to be my choice for video chat.
@triggerftu
I have found skype offering better framerates on my D3, compared to yahoo messenger. No clue if it is the case across the board or just my D3. I would prefer gtalk video, though, since most of my friends use that. So, I guess in the end it all comes down to who u want to chat with and what they use

Same Problem here
I'm having the same problem here. I am able to see the user on the computer, but they're not able to see me. I performed several re installations and cleared the cache multiple times, is there something I am missing here? Not quite sure how it is working for some and not others.

[Q] Wifi-only app that lets S1 and BB communicate?

I have a rooted/rommed wifi-only S1 and my GF has a Blackberry 9780. She is currently overseas for X amount of time and the only way we can talk is by calling each other which is extremely expensive, or using skype which means she has to borrow a friend's laptop or android device. She has service on her phone over there, unsure of what type of plan.
I came up with the idea of using my old BB 8330 and figuring out how to use BBM or something similar on wifi-only, but it turns out that 'ol phone doesn't have wifi on it. It's too bad I sold my last BB some time ago which was an 8530 and had wifi. Oh well.
Anyways, I'm now wondering if there's an app I can use on my S1 that she can also use on her 9780 that would allow us to text and or talk. Something like BBM that doesn't require me to have service or a data plan. I imagine there's at least one app out there that would do this and also be available to BB users.
Thanks.

I read somewhere that it uses your phone number but can't seem to confirm that.
I'm pretty sure we can use KIK but it's text only. I may be getting greedy with wanting text and talk, but having both would be awesome.
Does her phone have a browser? If so, you could use any site like ebuddy to talk. Or even get on something like palringo (dunno if there's a bb version?) but there must be something alike.

She has service and we *think* her data is unlimited. She also has a wireless router at her flat so wifi helps if the data is limited/costly.
We're trying to use apps over our current methods or using something browser based mainly for convenience. Something like whatsapp or KIK would work perfectly from what I understand, but they're text-only. Not a huge problem, but if I can find text+voice that would be great. Skype is normally the answer to that question but her phone, or more specifically her service provider, isn't compatible with skype from what I'm seeing.

I went with Kik for now. It's actually a pretty cool messenger app. Clean and fast.
I haven't yet found anything that covers both messages and voice in app form other than skype which I confirmed is not compatible with her model of phone.

Preferring to stay away from browser since apps are far more convenient and because browsers always run very sluggish on my cappy for some reason.

Looks like the exact app I need and it's compatible with blackberry. Will give it a try. Thanks!
ETA: Looks like Blackberry devices can not use the VoIP feature yet but they say it will be available eventually.
Turns out you need a number for viber and my device is wifi-only. After some research I found that you can use any phone number that can receive SMS because it's for them to send you a registration PIN. I tried both my GV and Heywire numbers and haven't received that text on either one. :\
