The guide to install a RUU is built into the RUU program itself. You run the RUU program on the PC and then follow the prompts on when to connect your phone to the PC using USB cable.
As for which one you need, it depends on what region you are from and if you have a carrier branded IncS or an unbranded IncS. Also, if you have been running any ROM built on GingerBread (Android 2.3.x) then you cannot install a Froyo RUU because the radio image is different and cannot be downgraded.

If you are running Virtuous Quattro, then you have a version 2 radio which was introduced with Gingerbread, so you need to use a GingerBread RUU.
Since you rooted and S-OFF to install custom ROMs, did you not do a nandroid backup of your original ROM before you installed Virtuous?

If you have a backup then just restore that and you should be able to get updates. You don't need to run a RUU to get updates if you have a backup of our original ROM.

You questions are hard to understand, but I'll give it a shot.
Yes, running and installing a RUU will wipe your phone and delete all the apps and data.
If you flash with the 2.30.405.1 RUU, then you should get a notification from HTC that the Sense 3.0/3.08.405.3 OTA update is available and you should be able to get it.
Another suggestion would be since you are already S-OFF you could go to the Development section and download the stock, rooted version of 3.08.405.3 with Sense 3.0 and not lose S-OFF or root.
What update do you require from HTC?
What is the RUU program mentioned above?

A RUU = ROM Update Utility. A RUU is an official HTC ROM that you can flash to return to a complete stock, unrooted state on the phone.
This thread has nothing to do with the user wanting to unlock the bootloader. The OP posted already has his phone rooted and now wants to return to a stock state.

Receiving an OTA update notificiation is dependent upon the current ROM you are running and which region/location your carrier is from.
so WWE RUU 2.30.405.1 good for me..
and when i will get a update to ics after i install the WWE RUU 2.30.405.1??

After you install 2.30.405.1, you should get an OTA notification is available for 3.08.405.3 or 3.11.405.2.
If you get this OTA notification, then you should get the ICS notification when it becomes available.

I can only speak from my own experiences. I have a permanent S-OFF IncS with an unlocked CID of 1111111 and I have always gotten OTA notifications with the WWE RUU/ROMs.
What I have observed from discussions on this forum, if you only have a carrier or regional CID, then you may or may not get the OTA depending on if an OTA has been released for your region.

You could run my script or downgrade the main version manually, then rerun the ruu.
Edit: you will also have to lock the bootloader after you downgrade main version and before you run the ruu.

[SOLVED] Reversing Incredible S Soft-Brick After Trying to Revert to Stock with RUU

I am literally losing my mind!
About a month ago, I successfully rooted my Incredible S with Revolutionary, which updated my HBoot to 6.13.x, and then flashed Cyanogenmod 7 through ClockworkMod Recovery. For various reasons, I needed to give my phone to someone in stock form, so I tried using the rom.zip file from the stock RUU of my phone I found on these forums. After it seemingly completed successfully, except for the fact that it said it couldn't roll back HBoot, it asked to reboot, and ever since then, it repeatedly turns on and off, only making it as far as the first HTC logo. Bootloader still works, while recovery doesn't. Selecting recovery restarts the on-off problem. What should I do to revert to stock? Thanks in advance for ALL help.
Phone is from Bell Mobility, I think.
***Note: I know I shouldn't post unless going through EVERYTHING similar or related, which I've been literally doing for the past ten hours. Nothing has worked.

Need some help please

Needing some help if you anyone can help at all. I was trying unroot my Sprint M8. Something went wrong when I flashed stock recover wrong, I don't know what but the issues started after that, and now it keeps booting into bootloder mode and won't go pass that. I have contacted HTC Premium Support to see if they have any advice still waiting to hear back. I have contacted Sprint and they have told me to take into a store to see if it can be repaired. Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to fix this? Or do you know if it can be fixed by Sprint of if that is wasting a trip. Any help would be much appreciated. Don't know if this is the right forum or not. If not I'm sorry. Thanks for anyone in advance who has any advice tips or whatever it may be..

Download the latest RUU, and make sure that the appropriate drivers are on your computer.
Also, make sure that you lock your bootloader (fastboot oem lock) before running the RUU if you are S-On. If you're S-Off, just run the RUU as is.
If that doesn't work, come back here.
Edit: Magnum responded while I was still typing. Listen to him.
And to respond your question, the RUU is run from the bootloader screen, so you're exactly where you need to be.

Okay my bootloader is locked. The issues started some time between flashing stock recover and relocking the bootloader. It says Tampered Relocked Security Warning if that means anything.
Now I tried fastboot oem rebootRUU and fastboot flash zip firmware.zip when it is flashing the zip in RUU it says

I have a question im on a stock rooted rom with no system changes except for the boot up sound which i restored. I flashed the stock recovery and then tried to take the OTA but it failed about a quarter of the way through. would my best bet be to just flash the firmware and flash a 4.4.4 stock rom with the eye feature when available or do I just do a RUU? Currently there is no stock rooted ROM for 4.4.4. You can update your firmware if you'd like and then wait for someone to publish a stock rooted ROM. Otherwise you can troubleshoot the reason you can't install the OTA and go from there.
