from samsung-firmwares.com
Whats new:
- HD Camrecorder App.
- Task manager App.
- Gps Seems faster.
- New widgets.
- And fix a lot of lag things.
This 2.1 rom looks like a real android 2.2.
We are very happy with this new Samsung Vibrant rom
WARNING!!!
..........
Do not flash the voodoo lagfix with this
..........
Eclair 2.1...
My comment on this rom.
Hey its a leak its not 2.2 and im happier with eugenes roms. I'm going back . I recommend you do the same. Seems like a test rom. I hope this wont be the official OTA from tmobile cause that would suck. We want 2.2

++++how to fix missing apps in the market++++
Missing market apps with new firmwares is always an issue because the market does not recognize the fingerprint. You need to be rooted and should open the file /system/build.prop in a text editor Scroll down till you come to the section titled # Do not try to parse ro.build.description or .fingerprint. After this are two lines, on which the name of the firmware will be stated as T959UVJI2. Change the ast three letters in the name on both lines to JFD. Then save the file and reboot, and then go to market and download and install a couple of apps. After this the missing apps will show up again and won't go away until you install another unofficia firmware Last.
+++ Thank rajendra82 for this market fix, works great +++
*Thanks to youneek we have a nandroid of this build. Great job youneek.*

Another way to restore your apps is with titanium backup save all your apps from the jfd firmware flash this ji2 then restore your apps from titanium.

Where exactly did this come from, and what do you mean "still 2.1 but acts like 2.2". That doesnt make any sense, its either 2.1 Eclair or 2.2 Froyo.

this is official tmobile 2.1 eclair . with alot of changes. im still digging in so download and check it out.

Is this a pre-release version someone snagged from samsung or what?

...and I believe that this is from the samsungfirmware.com topic that i've been reading about this morning.

He's saying its still a 2.1 rom but feels like 2.2 ie: 2.1's system lag

Official Release, nandroiding and flashing in a few, so I cant comment much more than what has already been said.

Im dl now but do we have to flash thru odin ???

Will this remove root or any rooted mods (ie battery status)?

Flash via Odin?
Lovellkid

so can unrooted phones flash this?
someone please take the plunge and flash it lol

I recon when this released is flashed, it will fail at boot (missing dbdata).
Thats because it is a high release and therefore missing two files.
If it does fail try flashing with this one:
SGH-T959_T959UVJI2_IP.7z
It is a "mid" package which includes the missing files.
I have no experience on Vibrant, but in I9000 case this rom would fail to boot.

Its a fresh firmware, flashed through ODIN, Will take you back to bone stock + new update

can this be flashed thru clockwork?

So um? What the Password on it? Can't extract it without it..

[Q] Root, Roms, Lagfix, Froyo, OMG!

Hey guys I have a rooted captivate running froyo. I want to try the Cognition v2.3b3 rom with lagfix, but I no idea where to start. Do I need to flash back to stock or can I just load the rom? Also I was wondering about overclocking, can I do that with this rom? Any help is appreciated. I am new to android, came from a unlocked iPhone this is way better! Thanks guys

you should be able to flash over but it is considered good practice to start from stock, also i think you need ji6 froyo before jj4 froyo which cog2.3b* are based on, so the accepted proper procedure is masterclear and flash jf6 from the one click installer get android id with android id changer, flash ji6, also a one click installer, and then flash cognition. all with odin. you can clockwork recovery flash cognition but it is another proceedure to root ji6. after cognition is installed reinstall android id changer and load the id from the stock rom.
i usually flash over without lashing to stock ect unless the flash over has issues. and overclocking is handled in the kernel you need to flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=828052
with odin, no .pit file needed just drop file in the pda slot and flash in download mode. overclocking is enabled by default so you need set cpu to manage it.
there is a link to an app to manage under volting, my settings are -50mv low and -75 high. it also handles the scheduler, i use cfq. anticipatory seems to work eqaully well. some suggest deadline and it may be better real world but i dont see it in benchmarks. and real world is too subject to placebo effect and coincidence.
this kernel also has a universal lag fix handled in clockworkmod recovery which replaces the stock recovery. best setting for that is no rfs jfs overkill but in the advanced settings disable bind to dbdata. it's fast! 17.299 mflops in linpack, and it's the first time that i have had a lagfix improve a linack score(at least it appears to)
Here is the steps that got me from ji6 2.2 to cog.
First if you don't already get titanium back up and back up all of your apps you don't want to loose and copy the file to your computer and remove external SD card if you have one.
Then i used the 2.1 version of odin one click to go back to 2.1 after that do a master clear then root your phone and down load rom manager. Using rom manager flash the clockwork recovory mod.
Next download cognition 2.3b3 then go back to rom manager and select install rom from sd card and find your cog rom you just down loaded and it will do the rest
Once cog is on your phone you can put you titanium backup file back on your phone and redown load titanium backup and restore all of your apps.

no you cant. it will only work if he has 2e recovery kernel. if it was the ji6 leak then it is running 3e recovery and no matter how hard you try, it wont boot into clockwork.
answer:
use the ODIN version of cognition. doesnt matter what rom you are on...
Ok so I am trying to flash cog via oden. I downloaded the file and am looking at the how to on the wiki but, in the wiki it says that all the files will be in the download Odin.exe PIT.pit PDA.tar PHONE.tar CSC.tar. The only files that I am seeing are the pda file the odin.exe and the pit file none of the other ones. Is this normal?

Cool gonna do it now. Will post results
Ok just flashed and that went well, but it wont let me open any apps. For example when I try to open up tibu it tells me I have to force close. I also dont have 3g
i dont know if there that is a common issue, but im sure you will need to reflash. you may want to flash to stock.
it's a multi step procedure and annoying but it is usually safer , i guess i got lucky.
i dont know for sure if you need to flash ji6 before cog 2.3b, design gears may have fixed that, i didn't read the details of why it was needed.
i would;
(optional)master clear, remove sim and sdcard. you will loose everything including titanium backups and posibly nand backups. master clear is done with the phone booted normally.
flash jf6
flash cognition 2.2 by meathod of your choice (so you have root and clockwork recovery)
flash cog 2.3b3 in clockwork mod recovery.
I don't know iflosing every thing is worth it for me, I really do want to flash this rom and try it out, but right now seems risky, I flashed back to froyo that I was running before. I thibk I'm going to do some more research and see what I can find. Thanks for all your help guys

Applying custom ROM to my stock 2.2 cappy?

Hey everyone,
I am about to finally root my phone and install a custom ROM. I was looking at the unlockr website and was reviewing everything before i went ahead and mess up things. Since I have a stock 2.2 phone do i need to do that ODIN procedure at all after i root it or can i just download ROM manager and install a custom ROM through that? I was either going to do Perception or Cognition since I am a new user. But for cognition i was going to maybe wait toll 2.3 was stable because people been having problems. Thank you!

2.2 is not stock. 2.1-1 is.
as far as cognition goes, the 2.3b4-6 are pretty stable, but dont get that confused with ANDROID 2.3....they are 2.2 roms
i think you have some more reading to do

Make sure you understand how to recover when you screw the pooch. Cognition is a good place to start, read all you can on voodoo lagfix. Perception can be a bit daunting with all the voltages, kernels and such.
Good luck and welcome to XDA!!
Current Phone:
Firmware: 2.2
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number:Froyo.UCJI6
I did a little more reading... Yes i got confused with the firmware version and the build numbers and wanted to make sure if i was doing the correct procedure. I also looked into how to recover everything too so I am good if i mess up. I am going to root using one click root and download the needed apps and backup with titanium, then run ROM manager an "Flash Clockwork Mod."
I am going to go with [ROM]Cognition v2.3b6 and install that on my captivate through ROM manager.
Then I am going to look into the voodoo lagfix kernel after i successfully flashed. I just did not know if this cognition was a good rom to do or that I should wait?

Everything you want to do will not work with your version of 2. 2. You need to flash to stock prior to trying to flash any roms.
Please take the time to read and understand what it is you are doing before you ruin your phone.
- Axura made me type this
Just to re-iterate what has been said...
There is a beta of 2.2, but there is no official stock 2.2. What your phone has was the beta - many of the ROMs out there are based on this, so you may not "fix" anything by flasing to another 2.2.
I am sorry, is there a link where u can put me in the right direction to downgrade? Thank you. I just want to root my phone because having this 2.2 i have now is nothing special.

Root the phone if you are going to be flashing ROMs. It's easy enough to do, and Titanium Backup is a must have ...
Rooted my phone successfully and I am at 2.1 eclair and i have been reading up on other custom roms to install.
I was looking at Axura, perception, and cognition...but i am a big theme guy and i did not know how to go about like changing the theme for the ROM?
Do i actually install the custom rom first and then find a theme for the custom rom?

Well if you are speaking about the themes here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=760106&highlight=Minimalistic+mod+theme
They are (as the post says) all flashable through CWM, which is exactly how you flashed the Cog ROM. Do the same process but select the zip file for the theme. Installs right over the top of the ROM.

Its is a safe bet to go to stock. All ROMs here are more or less developed based on factory settings, and this is got by going back to stock ROM. Going to stock resets phone back to factory level, and erases all traces of old ROM. This also avoids any potential issues that could crop up when u flash a different ROM over an existing custom ROM.

[Q] axura question

i have read some good things about Axura RC2.2 CE. so im very interested in flashing it. im currently running cog 2.1.7 is there any reason i couldnt just use rom manager and flash it right now. or should i flash back to odin stock and then re root grab rom manger again and then flash Axura RC2.2 CE? and in the instructions it said to backup with titan just data and apps but not system data, why is that?

The reason why people recommend ODIN first before flashing new ROMs is because lagfixes and other stuff can cause problems for certain users. Usually you can flash directly from another ROM no problem, but like I said, ODIN and most of your problems will disappear.
As for not backing up the system data, you can backup your system data. Just don't restore it as this can cause a lot of problems. There are framework differences, etc. between ROMs especially 2.1 and 2.2 ROMs. Restoring system data will cause FC city in most ROMs.
i just tried flashing and my phone got stuck in some mode where it kept saying stuff about partitioning and my sd wasnt found.. so lame
i backed up my stuff on titan and saved it to my computer ill try again after i root. hmm weird now its not running the zip file..
Did you Odin 1 Click back to stock first?
Never a good idea to flash over the top of another custom ROM as the guy above me stated already.
You always want that "clean slate" to start with to avoid issues like this. Then you can safely restore your applications and application data - but people have problems restoring system data - so I never do.
Odin 1-click back to stock and try again - it should work fine.
i just ended up odin one clicking it to froyo. which im loving right now so ill keep it like this for a bit. when i had reset my phone to stock i tried axura again but it wasnt running the zip for some reason..after im donewith 2.2 ill go to stock and try axura one more time.

Hmmm..
Easy method to ensure success:
Odin 1-Click back to OTA JH7 2.1 ECLAIR Stock (not 2.2 Froyo)
Root using CLShortfuse's Root application.
Then update to Auxura as normal and it should work fine.

Idk how much they actually check it - I assume it's kinda random so I wouldn't take any chance.
Odin3 one click does bring it to stock but having Froyo might look better and show that it wasn't just brought back to stock (along with some cache and data).

While we are on the subject, IS there a 1-click for Froyo (stock)? I ask because i've been hearing rumors of it, and i just havent had the time to investigate.
If there WASN'T a 1 click stock (froyo) then disregard my question. However, does that mean the only way to upgrade to Froyo (stock) is through CWM? I know people have been doing it through Kies, but i'm not a big fan.

Idk if there is but tbh it wouldn't be so useful as 2.2 as recovery problem which requires 3e recovery fix so makes flashing more painful.
There's although Odin 1.81 which you can flash Rogers (I896) version of Eclair (duno if there's one for 2.2 - haven't really looked into it as Kies mini works well)

ODIN ONE CLICK (and the other) CAME FROM SAMSUNG
so YES the odin one click is STOCK. ITS WHAT THEY USE to refurb ATT phones.
there has been no ODIN one click 2.2 leaked to the net.
we dont have the source code so we cant update the 2.1
how much do they check your phone? very little. the internal guts to replace at their cost is less than 50$. They have dozens of phones from each different model come in every day. They have about 10 minutes to hook it up to a machine that runs hardware tests for them. then it gets gutted. It is not worth their time to *see* what is on the phone. They only care if it works or not. so they can move to the next phone in the bin.
stock 2.1 is fine if it came with 2.1
2.2 if it came with 2.2. there are CWM 2.2 upgrade flashes available. use rom manager/ the update.zip method of CWM to install 2.2 then delete the update.zip and rom manager app.

2.2 if it came with 2.2. there are CWM 2.2 upgrade flashes available. use rom manager/ the update.zip method of CWM to install 2.2 then delete the update.zip and rom manager app <------ This, has been the answer i was looking for! Thanks!
glad to help!
but if you are ROGERS you can use the 2.1 or 2.2 stock flashes in my sig
no CWM needed! odin 1.7 package included in post

Go ahead and bring it to stock + update to Froyo.
Also, so it doesn't look so weird, use it for a couple days so there's data and cache lol

Not necessary. Just odin and kies.
I would master clear anyway if I were stock. Just go back to stock, update froyo and that's it.
If he flashes 2.1 (JF6), couldn't he run the software update to get JH7?

[Q] Flashed Firefly & CM7 a couple of times, but now I can't root my Captivate

Hi all,
over the last couple of weeks I've been experimenting with Firefly 3.0 on my Rogers I896 Samsung Captivate. Then I put CM7 on the phone, but decided I liked Firefly better so I tried to switch back. Trouble is, it looks like I did something wrong because now I can no longer root my phone. I have searched a lot on line, and tried several root methods including z4root (which is what I was using during the Firefly installs - worked great) and SuperOneClick - no joy. Z4root runs for a few seconds, and finally just returns to the home screen rather than re-booting; and SuperOneClick goes through a lot of commands and finally hangs with the message "waiting for phone" (or something close to that).
I've used Odin 1.81 to flash back to the stock Rogers 2.1 image, then to 2.2. (I used the images from here.) When I dial *#1234# I get CSC="unknown" and when I dial *2767*4387264636# I get PCode = "SGH-I896ZKAATT" but I think this is wrong, I think it should display "SGH-I896ZKARWC". I tried the fix documented here and following this procedure I can get the CSC code to read "I896rwcjl1". But I can't load a custom ROM because none of the root tools will root the device.
One other problem I ran into - don't know if it's related, but I think it is - if I try to set up the stock e-mail client to use our Exchange server, it is not able to connect to the mail server even though I know FOR SURE the credentials are correct. (The same setup works like a champ on other Android phones.) I think that the firmware is sending some phone-related info to a Samsung server to validate the license for the Exchange client software, and this is actually the part that is failing rather than the connection to the mail server.
Can anyone provide some direction to a long-suffering Android noob who just wants his Firefly (and exchange e-mail) back?
Thanks in advance
Just go into download mode, Odin/Heimdall a CWM-based kernel onto the phone, then don't even bother with standard rooting procedures; just reboot to CWM recovery, flash a custom ROM and go.
Flashing to stock is largely unnecessary for this.

NOT true coming from an aosp rom you HAVE to flash back to stock with either a one click or use a .pit with the firmware .tar. cm7 and miui use a completely different partitioning table if you try to flash a tw rom over them it will not work.
but yes you are right about just flashing a kernel with odin/heimdall that has cwm baked in. no need to root before you flash a rom.

I thought he meant oneclicking back to full stock (2.1 or 2.2), which is unnecessary due to bootloader rubbish. 3File to GB is pretty much the only way to go.
Thanks! 2 more follow-up questions
Thanks all for your helpful feedback. Two more questions:
what ROM(s) would you recommend that has CWM built-in?
I'm assuming once this ROM was loaded, I could replace it witl Firefly fairly easily?
Thanks again

a ROM doesnt have CWM built in....a kernel does
READ, READ, then READ some more
please read the new user guide (below in sig)find out what stickies are and find said stickies.
also if needing rogers stock roms (one clicks and non one clicks with pit....) also look in my sig.
they call me mr. rogers.
Thanks for the clarification. I installed CM7 using the guide on their wiki page and everything works.
