[TUT] My Experience with HTC HD Mini - HD Mini ROM Development

I decided to write this post, for help some one start to use HTC HD Mini (Photon), I have been used four HTC brands, I love these toy.
Sorry for my English, I live in Brazil, and Portuguese is my native language.
1) ROM – Customization to Portuguese:
- I bought my Photon in Brazil, but it was produced in Asia, and my official support is there, I download the last official ROM from HTC site (RUU_Photon_hTC_Asia_WWE _ .... .exe), and installed it.
- I recommend to make a hard reset.
- With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then press the POWER button shortly and release it.
- Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset.
- I download the last Portuguese ROM from the site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=660897, thanks conflipper, I put it in a empty folder.
- I use the WinZip program in the file “RUU_Photon …exe”, function “Extract to here”, for extract the files, I copy the file "RUU_signed.nbh" in an empty folder.
- I download the “SSPL”, from the site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694409, thanks Cotulla, I put it in the same folder of the RUU_signed.nbh file, I extracted it with WinZip.
- I connected my Photon to USB computer port, I’m using Windows XP, SP3, and Microsoft ActiveSync (V. 4.5.0).
- I run the program DFT_SSPL_MINI.exe, the first time you run it, the Photon will ask you, if you want to install the program, click “yes”, at that point the program DFT_SSPL_MINI.exe “failed” in my computer, don’t worry, live the Photon in the three colors screen, running the Cotulla SSPL; run again the DFT_SSPL_MINI.exe, follow the program commands, wait until the program finish with success.
- I disconnected the USB cable, removed the Photon battery , and did a hard reset.
Remember this SSPL, only flash Splashes and OS images, the original Radio is not changed.
2) Programs I’m using:
- Internet browser: Opera 5.1, under JBlend, for quickly navigation.
- Internet browser: uZard WebP Ver. 2.0 (QVGA), for watch video.
- Skype for wm.
- CommonTime mNotes, for sync with LotusNotes.
- PHM RegEdit, registry editor.
3) Tip Enable cleartype:
- Run the PHM RegEdit program, and change the registry.
- HKLM\ControlPanel\Pen" then change the "Hide" key content from 1 to 0
- Screen control panel is available under "Sense Settings tab > Menu > More > System".
Enjoy,

Strange (null) In Kaiser HTC Homeplug

Hi all
I installed the HTC Home plug Based on the Kaiser one. With the Weather Patch
But now I have a strange problem. In the Weather Tab it says (null) instead of High or Low.
Same go's for the Ringtone.
Well the problem is: When I reload the Plug it works. But when I reboot my device it show op (Null) again until I reload the Plugin.
Does anyone know this problem???
Thanks in advance.
Same problem, haven't found a real fix yet but I got a workaround you can try.
After every reset of the device follow these steps.
- Disable HTC Home from the today screen.
- Open HTC Home Customizer
- Change some minor detail (usually selected weather city for me)
- Save
- Go back to today screen and HTC home is there with all language files working magically.
It's a bit of a pain in the ass but I haven't found a better solution just yet. Hopefully someone else can answer this for us but in the meantime you can use my cheap method to make it look right.
You have to rename:
windows\HTCHome.dll.0409.mui
windows\HTC_HDlg.exe.0409.mui
windows\HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml
to your locale variable (if your rom isn't wwe), in my case it's spanish (0C0A):
windows\HTCHome.dll.0C0A.mui
windows\HTC_HDlg.exe.0C0A.mui
windows\HH_0C0A_WeatherCities.xml
It worked for me.
There's another way to do it, harder but way better, i usually do this with my own cabs because after a hard reset i don't like having to change everything again. Steps:
1- Decompress the cab with winrar
2- Edit the file "setup.xml" and correct things you want to change about installation setup: name of files to install (like in this case), name of registry variables to write (like in 10-button commanager for wing), etc
3- Find and download "Cabpack 1.4", be sure to use the following options for it to work: "compression type = mszip", "Create cabinets for = 16 bit extractor"
4- Use it for re-compressing your modified cab and install.
5- Voilá... great pre-modified cabs that you can keep for the next hard-reset.
Hope you like it. Regards

Ok but you are right...I dont want to do all that again after Hard Reset. So im going to try make a Modifi on this Cab.. Thanks again
Hello and thanks for this help !
But it doesn't work for me. Maybe you can help me ?
I have the same problem with "null:null"
But the files are already named with my locale variable. (I'm not sure)
windows\HTCHome.dll.040C.mui
windows\HTC_HDlg.exe.040C.mui
windows\HH_040C_WeatherCities.xml
The language of my Windows Mobile 6 is in french. But i want to display weather of "Lausanne" in Switzerland (100C)
You say : if your rom isn't wwe --> How can i see if my rom is wwe ?
Thanks a lot for your answers

Avaya One-X v4.0.25 installed and working !

Installed and working on Kaiser WM6 !
Manual install process :
1. Unpack the attached ZIP file with subfolders.
2. Copy all the files to the appropriate folders on your PDA.
3. Change the registry according to the attached registry.txt (change 2 keys and create 4 new)
4. Completely turn off your PDA (to renew the registry). Reset button does not work.
5. Switch the device on.
6. In order to enter the PIN code do: Start -> Settings -> Phone -> Enter your PIN
Now you have an Avaya One-X as a dialer.
Do not forget to fill settings.ini with your own settings.
Enjoy !

What is it? A phone dialer??? I've never heard of it before. Any screenshot?
Can you provide any screenshots???
It looks like a VOIP client
http://www1.avaya.com/campaign/demo/one-x/index.html
could you please provide more info on Avaya one-x? what are the benefits of running this?
thanks!
I believe you need an Avaya VoIP system to get the one x client to work. I know they had a version for thier IP Office system but I don't think they ever updated it to run on WM6
Guys,
This is an application for WM which replaces the standard phone dialer and in addition to regular WM phone functionality it allows:
1. Manage your desktop office phone directly from your mobile
2. Make all operations like call forwarding, EC500 management, etc directly from your mobile.
It requires to have an Avaya VOIP PBX installed at your office.
Without it, it does not make sense at all.
Hi
We have an Avaya VOIP PBX installed at our office..
Could please tell us to connect HTC Touch Cruise wm6!
We have tried everyway we could, and read every document available on avaya support page, with no luck.
thank you in advance.

Moved: Cannot Unlock/Update SnapVue WM Without Data Service

I have an HTC Shift without a carrier's data service, so I am not able to exploit SnapVue WM using Shiftpack method due to the lack of email without a data connection service. Nor am I able to exploit Snapvue through Internet Conection Sharing method, because that also requires a data connection sevice before showing up in Vista as a shared folder /Pocket_PC. Due to the lack of support for bluetooth, sd card, and WIFI connectivity in Snapvue WM, I am also not able to use these logical methods. Is there any other possible method(s) to unlock or upgrade SnapVue WM?
You don't need a data service. You just need a SIM card. It's harder, but it works. Just setup a fake connection under WM side, and let it try to connect. Use the internet sharing method for that.
Any sim card will work, so you can just borrow one for this.
I have a CDMA version.
I guess you have to wait for a custom rom then.
send me a PM and I can sort you out. (I assume you have SPL 0.14, as all the CDMA shift's I've seen so far)
Hi Guys
I have the same problem where I can not get a data connection. Even with a sim card inserted I can not get vista to see wm. Could it be because my wifi has suddenly disaperd? Any suggestions would be appreciated
Make sure wifi is off when trying this method.
Yes, I thought of that but even if I wanted to turn it on I can't, it is just simply not there, in vista. Even shagcontrol does not turn it on?
Liberate Snapvue the Hard way
I too have a CDMA shift and I librated with the following proceedure and it worked fine for me with no data connection. I will say you may have to do the internet sharing connection and F5 step multiple times before you will see the Icon in my computer to be able to access it but once you do be ready and quick to copy you cab files to the Snapvue side because it will not last forever. last note: if you attempted and still do not get any results check WMDC setting for the allow usb connections and be sure it is set properly
1. Reset SnapVue if you have been hacking it.
- Run Clearstorage.exe (or Settings, Clear Storage)
- Disable Wi-Fi in Vista (Communication Manager)
- Enable Modem
2. Get Access to WM6
- In SnapVue, click Outlook E-mail
- Click Menu,New
- Click Menu,New,Insert Picture
- Where it says "My Pictures", click and navigate to "Windows" directory
- Highlight (using arrow keys) the "Start Menu" directory and copy it (using ctrl-c)
- Navigate into "Settings" directory in "Windows" and paste (ctrl-v). Ignore the calendar error.
- Click Ok and go back to SnapVue.
- Click Settings button and then "Start Menu, Programs, Internet Sharing"
- Click "Connect". The screen will say "Check USB cable.". Switch over to Vista and make sure that you have a network connection.
- Switch back to snapvue and click disconnect.
- Switch back to Vista and open Windows Explorer. From the "Computer" level, keep pressing F5 until you see Pocket_PC.
- Using "Tools, Folder Options" (alt T,O), click on the View tab and make sure that "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" is NOT enabled.
- Copy "RegistryEditor.exe" to "Pocket_PC,"\" directory.
- Still on Vista side, Using "Communication Manager", Click "Advanced Settings" and then "Reset Snapvue". Click OK.
- Switch to snapvue and wait for it to start up. If you miss the warning to allow running "RegistryEditor.exe", don't worry - click setting, Start Menu, Programs, File Explorer, then navigate to Windows, StartUp and run it from there.
- In RegistryEditor.exe, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Services. Delete the "SnapVue" entry. Click and hold the "SnapVue" entry until the context-sensitive menu appears, then select delete.
- Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Cabfile\Shell\Open\command and change the default value to wceload.exe "%1" /nodelete - there is a space after the .exe and before the /nodelete here
- Close RegistryEditor.exe.
- In File Explorer, delete the PKG.exe and BlockTitleBar.exe files from the Windows\StartUp directory.
- Switch back to Vista and reset snapvue from Communications Manager's Advanced Settings.
- Switch back to SnapVue. When it has finished starting up and you have closed RegistryEditor, you will notice that you have the start menu at the top left of the screen.
- Tidy up - reset and delete "Start Menu" from the "Windows, Settings" directory
I hope this helps if you have any other questions PM me

rom 1.30.406.0 FRE
Hello, after installing the thinking have all the options I find myself with a factory or SnapVUE I can not install USBTOOL therefore impossible for me to change again the rom I really hate .. .! So be very careful with you. If a super installer is in the corner to help me install a new rom without going through the usual procedure will be welcome. Otherwise the shift is really great.

[GUIDE] Translate a ROM into german and maybe any other language (experimental)

Hi folks.
At first i have to say, that this is a somehow unclean and tricky solution, but it works somehow and maybe it can be improved.. There are some threads on this forum, which deal with that, but i'm going to describe, what i did, to get it working.
You need:
- The new Touch IT 2.1-ROM (don't know yet, if it works with other ROMs - think only if it's the same build)
- A backup from a german ROM (mine was made by SPB-backup from the cmEX-image, also don't know if other ROMs/backup tools work)
- The language files from here (German.rar)
- A registry editor (I used PHM regedit)
First i took all the mui-files out, by using the Windows search and copying them into another folder, then i transferred them via ActiveSync into the \Windows folder.
Then I put a link to the registry tool and to the explorer and PHM regedit in the TF3D programs panel (you'll need that, because after changing the registry to use german language your start menu will be screwed up for some reason and you can't access any program anymore).
Now you have to change two registry values and optionally set your region in the regional settings:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\MUI]
"SysLang"="1031" (for german)
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\MUI]
"CurLang"="1031"
-> It's time to do a soft-reset and you'll notice, that the pin-dialogs and so on are in german.
Go to the TF3D programs panel (as i said: Start menu will be screwed up - there are links for programs and settings, but they won't work) and start explorer to execute your backup.
After that your ROM should be fully german.
This is probably not a very good solution and it's kind of buggy, but it is a start..
I couldn't get it until know, how to cook the language files into a ROM (tried it with extracting the new Touch IT 2.1 and inserting the files from German.rar, but ended up with the device starting up and showing a black screen all the time).
If somebody could help me out with that, i would, if i am allowed, make a german version of the Touch IT 2.1 ROM.
Any additions or corrections appreciated!!

CDMA Shift Phone

I am posting this info because I need some assistance in getting it to work perfectly I was hoping some of you out there may have some additional insight! thank you
Known Bugs/Issues
1. Incoming Call are directed direct to Voice mail
2. Speaker and Mic are defaulted to off you must enable
3. headset is default off you must first enable speaker then plug in headset
4. if any sound is activated while on a call Headset, Speaker, Mic are automaticly Disabled
HTC SHIFT FULL PHONE
I don't think it is currently need but I have also inclued the hardsspl for CDMA
Be careful with the RealVGA bit if you haven't got an English machine - I have so I couldn't test this bit - I inferred the solution from one of Daniel's posts.
1. Reset SnapVue if you have been hacking it.
- Run Clearstorage.exe (or Settings, Clear Storage)
- Disable Wi-Fi in Vista (Communication Manager)
- Enable Modem
2. Get Access to WM6

- Switch back to SnapVue. When it has finished starting up and you have closed RegistryEditor, you will notice that you have the start menu at the top left of the screen.
- Tidy up - reset and delete "Start Menu" from the "Windows, Settings" directory
Pat yourself on the back! You have successfully converted the HTC shift's SnapVue to WM6.
2a. Enable all the hidden "Today" items
- Switch to WM6
- Click "Start Menu (icon at top left of screen), Programs, Internet Sharing"
- Click "Connect". The screen will say "Check USB cable.". Switch over to Vista and make sure that you have a network connection.
If not - go to Vista Connection Manager and stop and start the modem.
- go back to snapview disconnect and then connect again
- switch back to Vista
- Switch back to snapvue and click disconnect.
- Switch back to Vista and open Windows Explorer. From the "Computer" level, keep pressing F5 until you see Pocket_PC.
- In Vista, install and run ceregedit_setup.exe
- Press F1 to connect to WM6
- Use Tools, Unlock Registry to enable the import
- Use Edit, Import to import "today.reg". Ignore any errors.
- Close ceregedit
- Switch to WM6
- In "Start Menu, Settings, Today, Items", pick the today items you want to display.
3. Change the display resolution to 96 dpi (BE SURE THAT THE CHECK BOX FOR DISABLE PHONE SKIN IS CHECKED)
A word of warning - this version of RealVGA is English and does not work very well with non-English systems.
- If you have a non-English version of the Shift, then you will not have a directory called \Windows\StartUp. Before doing the rest of this section, you should create a "StartUp" directory in your Windows directory and copy all of the files from your language equivalent of StartUp.
- Copy "RealVGA_11.CAB" and "ResPack96dpi.ARM.CAB" to "Pocket_PC,"\" directory.
- Switch over to WM6
- From File Explorer (Start Menu, Programs, File Explorer), navigate to the top directory (using Up button as necessary)
- Install RealVGA_11.CAB accepting the security warning
- Install ResPack96dpi.ARM.CAB accepting the security warning and select ok to restart the system
- Run RealVGA from Start Menu, Programs
- Change to 96dpi and press OK and wait while the system restarts
- Tidy up - Using "Start Menu, Settings, System, Remove Programs" remove WM6_RealVGA (its job is done)
- In File Explorer, delete the 2 CAB files.
hkey_local_machine\system\state\phone

Trashed Snapvue
I ran the CustomRuu from the zip file you posted, and managed to get into a loop where Windows Mobile will not boot. I can get into the bootloader with tools I downloaded on XDA, but have not found a ROM that will install without an error. Do you have a CDMA compatible ROM or even the original ROM that comes with the device. Will dive into the box to see whats on the disks next.
Need help though.
the orginal rom should be included in the zip folder
ShiftCDMAFLASH is the folder that I flashed (successfully) that left me in bootloader (three color screen).
RUUNBh is in the upper middle of the screen
CLI 0200
SPL 0.14.000
appear below, and USB in a white box appears below that.
The ShiftCDMAFLASH.zip file contains a different nbh rom file from the folder above, but I cannot get past 0% on the loader screen. I have used ecshift.exe -bl to get back in bootloader mode and hard resetted the Windows mobiel side, but no luck yet. Any suggestions ? +
just give it time
The 0.19 nbh file give a 262 error
On the other hand I can flash the 1.14.651.1 Rom with no trouble but I reboot (even after a hard reset) into the tri color screen with USB on the screen as listed above. Stalled in this mode.
Any other options ? or roms that might work. The GSM roms on XDA also crash out so I am locked in the 1.14.651.1 bootloader mode.....grrrr.
Is there another option I am missing ? I also tried the Snapvue reset program for Vista from the HTC website
Snapvue Software version 1.14.651.1
Snapvue Software version 1.14.651.1 is the one that I installed on my CDMA shift and now cannot get out of bootloader screen (tricolor) despite hard resetting the WM side. I am able to reflash the above listed rom with no errors. But still end up in the bootloader screen.
No other posted rom on XDA will load (probably due to GSM/CDMA differences). Do you have an alternative CDMA rom I could use or is there a way to get out of the bootloader and force WM to load that I am missing ?
use mtty should be posted on site
Used mtty
Thanks. I had been usimg mtty. I can successfully hard reset but WM boots back into the tri color bootloader screen following hard reset. lol. Still stuck. Thanks for the suggestion though.
now do ecshift mode 0 then mode reset

Thanks, I have been doing all of the above. Restarts into the tricolor screen. I can reformat with the rom you provided. Still tricolor on hard reset. Something in the rom is preventing wm from loading. Anything else left to do ?
I am probably going to need to give up. The snapvue side is toast. Unless there is someone with the original CDMA Rom out there willing to post online (even HTC) I do not think I can make this work.
Original CDMA ROM
Hello, I had exactly the same problem, my SnapVue stood in bootloader...

you can download it from here:

Was able to get Snapvue up and running with the exe file listed above. Did not need to do anything else. Thanks for posting. Will need to be more careful when testing new roms.

Excelent!
you are right, but that kind o things is part of the learning process
Thanks again for all the help.
Also managed to fix the Font sizes in Snapue via registry edits so that they increase in proportion to the scaled screen resolution with RealVGA. Until I figure out how to HardSPL the CDMA Shift and cook a custom rom, this will have to do.
