[FIX] GPS files ripped from leaked JI2, flashable zip - Vibrant Android Development

Just thought I would share this in case anybody wants to try it. Someone posted the GPS files from the newly released firmware and I packaged it up in a flashable zip that is attached to this post.
I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly suprised to find that my GPS was working better and my compass actually works. It's not perfect and I make no promises about it's validity or completeness other than that I packaged it up and flashed it on my phone with no problems and it seems to have made a positive difference without having to flash the entire firmware. Give it a try if you are so inclined and let us know if it works for you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a little I put together to help people install this using ROM Manager/Clockwork Recovery:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BEFORE YOU START YOU MUST HAVE...
* Root access.
* ROM Manager from the market with Clockwork Recovery. (If you have another way to flash the .zip file then feel free to use that. This was tested using Clockwork Recovery and I highly recommend using it.)
ONCE YOU ARE ROOTED AND HAVE CLOCKWORK RECOVERY INSTALLED FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS IN ORDER...
1. Save/download the attached file to internal SD card (/sdcard directory in Astro).
2. Open the ROM Manager application and select "Reboot into Recovery"....
- The phone will reboot and you will be in recovery mode. To navigate the recovery menus use Volume +/- to move up and down through the menus and use the Power Button to select.
2a. If you see the green menu with the title "ClockworkMod Recovery" at the top then skip this step. If you see a blue menu select "Reinstall Packages" and press the Power Button. This will bring you to the ClockworkMod Recovery menu.
3. Select "install zip from sdcard" and press the Power Button.
4. Select "choose zip from sdcard" and press the Power Button.
5. Select "Vibrant-JI2-GPS.zip" and press the Power Button.
6. Select "Yes - Install...." and press the Power Button.
You should see the updater being installed. When finished it will say "Installation complete" or "Install from sdcard complete".
7. Select "++++Go Back++++" and press the Power Button.
8. Select "reboot system now" and press the Power Button.
- Your phone will reboot and you should be good to go. The first time you fire up the GPS it may take a few minutes but after that it should lock on pretty fast. I get an average of 7 locks out of 12 satellites in view with an accuracy of <30 feet. It seems to get better the longer it runs but it's plenty good enough for navigation while driving which is what I use the GPS for.
Hope this helps. God bless.
-F
ATTENTION: THIS IS NOT FOR 2.2 FROYO ROMS!!! IF YOU FLASH THIS ON 2.2 IT WILL BREAK YOUR GPS AND QUITE POSSIBLY BRICK YOUR DEVICE!!!!

Testing now. If all goes well, its going in my rom tonight. Thanks for this!

Flashes fine. Boots fine. GPS improvements should be similar to those that used the files directly.
Would rather use GPS for a couple days before making an opinion.
Thanks for the zip. I've been lazy and didn't want to dust ODIN off for just the small improvements in the update.

I pulled and placed the files myself and the results were great. Lock in under 5 seconds and consistently 7+ satellites.

Finally a working GPS. Works great so far. Thanks.

Sorry to go a bit off topic but is it possible to do the same for the battery full notification? The GPS and notification were the most notable changes in the leak imo. Thank you in advance,
Russ

Play by play action. Just installed it and after 30 seconds I have 0 fix on 2 sats. Now at one min and have 0 fix on 3 sats. Two minutes and 0/3. Compass is also confused... 3 minutes and 0/3. I say it's a failure. 3.5 minutes and 0/4 and still no fix.
Wait! I just got 4/6 and 20 meters accuracy.
This is the first time this phone has ever locked in on more that 2 birds. Accuracy isn't great but this is progress I guess

This one doesn't fix my gps. Does anyone know of any other gps settings that exist outside of this update?

good lookin bruh

Followup to my "Play by play". Outside I got 6/9 and 20ft error. It seemed to follow me pretty well. After short time testing I'll have to say that this is much improved. Like I said before I have never locked on to more than two sats.

Archived in the bible, nice work.

Incredible... I had 4 satellites in view and could maybe get 1 to lock. I instantly got 11 in view, locked onto 9 accuracy was less than 20 feet. Installed without a hitch. Thanks OP.
Lovellkid

i finally get satellite locks!!! i did notice that i got better performance if i disabled the "use wireless networks" box...
edit: still not perfect, but i actually get sat locks now...

seems to have made an improvement, I will be able to tell better when I am at my office tomorrow as I always have issues getting a lock when I am there

works great!!!! my gps finally works... it wasn't even working at all before.

8/13 locked on in about ten seconds. Accuracy to within 20 feet. Joy!
The GPS issue never bothered me much, but it is nice to have it working the way it should. Thanks op.

If you are using the voodoo fix, you need to mount /data manually from an sdb shell. "mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p4 /data" worked for me. Then apply the zip. This could be scripted in the zip file.
Well.. Looks like they fixed a few things. I've never seen this gps report 7/8 locked. Nice. The local time zone is also properly determined. About 2 min for first fix, ok but not great for a cold start. Time will tell, the old drivers worked to start with and get wacky for me after a few days. A reboot would fix it. If this setup can keep working for a few days without a reboot, I'll be happy.

Sorry to sound like a newb, but how would I apply this? Many mentioned flashing the zip, what would I need to accomplish that? Also, it is possible to just drag and drop the file, follow by a reboot?

Can anyone confirm compass is fixed or not ?

Awesome!
This works great! It still takes a while to get a lock. About 2 minutes, but I then locked onto 9 out of 11 satellites! Awesome! less than 20 meters accuracy! Google maps showed me 4 meters! Very much improved! My compass is still screwy though! Thank you!

Sorry guys I won't retype everything twice now. Worked all the day to get this pushed out. Now I am kinda tired! So this is just a quick first post. I will update it later. The first SuperFroyo Release is available now!
As promised by you in the "Good News..."-Thread -< I need testers now!
Here is the link + download + instructions for the first release of SuperFroyo for X1:
Android SuperFroyo
reserved for my mama and papa...naaaah future updates!!
IM downloading it. I will report back as soon as posible.
THANKS. IM very excited
Good!!
I am waiting for about 4hours lol
I want to work camera this version
btw thxxxxx
P.s: Pardon my English TT
I am gonna Try It Tonight...... Thanks .. Neo.. And All Devlopers........ Cheers
Its faster than any previous version of android on X1 and more responsive.
its seems very stable.
When i enter SupSetup it crashes. I guess that is CyogenMod setup but it doesnt work.
First haret boot is long. But then its very fast. After i hit haret it enters android very fast.
Scrolling in file manager and menu gerneraly is faster. And phone wakes up very fast. Before i had to wait 0,5 second or 1 second to unlock phone...now its instantly up. Hope you understand me.
3d seems better. I dont know if 3dHW accelleration is enabled. Carom3d was running very slow on tremers21/8 like 1 frame per two second. And now with this its running like 3 frames per second. Improvement but 3d games are still unplayable.
Next problem its battery status. When im charging its showing CHARGING for few seconds then its instantly showing 100% wich is not true. Then when i unplug cable its showin 50% and droping to 40% like 1% every 2 seconds. I was like WTF. Its not showing the right value.
Sliding beetween screens seems a bit laggy.
Before on 21/8 tremers when someone calls me i have to wait 3-4 seconds before i could se who is calling. Now on this version its very fast.
On XPERIA X1 generaly the ONE button on top is used for turning screen on and of, and for turning phone off. In your android version that funcion you assined to bottom right button (Drop/Cancel Call Button).
even when i hold that button i cant enter POWER OFF button becouse it tuns off display just after showing POWEROFF option.
i will try to test battery life time.
Kernel panic - not syncing, no init found.
What is wrong, I did everything according to instructions (I think )

As I wrote on my site SupSetup is not available atm. I removed apk! For me this build runs amazing compared to my HTC Diamond (also SuperFroyo so I have the direct comparation). It's really incredible also for me how fast the display wakes up! My Diamond needs sometimes up to 3secs or doesn't even wake up...
I also encountered the prob with powering off. But you maqy remap the keys. Another solution is to press AND hold down poweroff-button and then touch the display with left hand for reboot/poweroff. This works for me.
Nevertheles I am really confused how good it works. I also tested Neocore by pushing it! It gave me 18FP/s without overclocking. Don't know it exactly but how much do you get on Trem's build?

I know you propably followed everything but this is what i did.
Formated SDcard. Created 3.650 (not exactly) Fat32 partition and 350 Ext2 partition.
Copied everything on Fat32 partition with haret.exe been on root. From WM6.5 first i launched install.exe from npkinstall. After reboot i started haret.exe from root of SDcard.
That is all.

You think Please try to start from scratch. Seems like you made a mistake somewhere. In most cases you didn't partition correctly. Try it out a few times. It will work cause this build for X1 is noob-friendly if you have partitioned correctly! 3 Steps:
* Partitioning
* Running install.exe within npkinstall-folder
* Running haret.exe from root
Maybe you can have a look at documentation-folder. It contains some jpegs to help you out...
And please how do i change the black notification bar to original white???
Yeah, thanks for help Neopeek and denyboy, I noticed that as I had followed the partition sizes in the youtube video, I had ended up with 580 meg ext2. I will format again to 350 meg ext2
We will see, I will post the results!

You can change it in settings. Move to spareparts blablabla. Somewhere you will find Notification colors. Adjust them and then reboot Android!

Dont follow that complex tutorial. Just boot ubuntu or any other gnu/linux go to Gparted and delete all partitions then create new FAT32 and new Ext2 with adeqate size. That all.
Or use any other software for partitioning for Windows or GNU/Linux

Ok, now it works! The Android just did not like my 580 meg ext2 partition
And phew, it is FAST!
The battery driver goes crazy sometimes.
By the way, you mentioned about overclocking in your post in the other forum, is it possible?

[Q] Any luck with designgears JH7_OTA.zip?

Before taking the plunge I am looking for success/problem comments from those who have failed with OTA and then tried the JH7_OTA.zip approach.
I have searched and I don't see many comments yet.
It flashed fine for me but now GPS is causing my phone to lock up. Happens if I turn off GPS and just now happened in google maps while driving. Had to pull the battery to reset.
Worked great for me. GPS is working like a champ too.
Thanks to all who worked so hard on the flash.
I updated with the JH7_OTA.zip and it went well, but my phone is worse than before... laggier, bottom buttons seem less responsive (could be due to the increased lag) and the GPS will not see any satellites and much less, lock. I'm sure it's not the file... just another defective unit. This is my fourth Captivate. First two simply lost the ability to connect to 3G and WIFI, the third had a great GPS but the search function would randomly self activate and the body creaked like an old rocking chair, and my current one.

This happened to me. You don't need to pull the battery. Just hold the up volume button and power button for about 10 seconds and the phone will shut off.
Edit Disregard my post.
It's working great for me. I usually stream radio during the day and it usually will drop out once or twice an hour. Today, it has been streaming just perfectly with no dropouts. Thanks to all of those that got this working!!!!
No problems here, either. I did remove my previously installed LagFix first, and I flashed over JH3. GPS seems to track me a little better than before, and it does seem that perhaps the radio is working a bit better and battery life is slightly better as well.
I have the same commute on the train each morning, and pretty much do the same routine each time, so that's a good way for me to compare things after a change. This morning I noticed that my streaming radio barely cut out at all in areas where the signal is low, much less than before, and when I got into work my remaining battery PCT was a little better than usual. I applied the RyanZ lag fix from the market this afternoon and overall am pretty happy so far!
My GPS is still jacked up.

Worked great for me. everything working including the 3 button, usb, and better gps/compass. Things other people were complaining about not working. I flashed odin and rooted with update.zip before i applied this rom.
luck? Sure... but...
I went with the Cognition ROM as JH7_OTA didn't do the trick for me.. All in all I like the Cog experience (install went smoothly, seems fast, no weird errors), but the GPS is definitely not fixed. Accuracy is better in that my phone can locate me on the neighborhood level, but it is still not locking and is locating me blocks away from where I'm actually at.
Worked great for me.
No problems flashing for me. That is the answer to your question, now to issues I had.
HSUPA was not working for me. So I did the revert HSUPA to get 3G back and it killed all data for me. So I did a nandroid back to my previous ROM and then I got FC so I had to Odin and then reinstall my nandroid. That is why I don't like his zip, it works fine but if you want to change ROM's you have to basically flash odin to make sure you have no issues. That is how it was for me, others might be different and then you have the nut swingers who are only for Cognition.
I will say this issue happened to me 3 times. I think the issue might stem from being unable to remove voodoo since it is packaged into his zip. Not positive why I had the issue but for the time being I am trying other alternatives.
Last edit: Just went back to his Cognition thread and see that he pulled the HSUPA zip, so it wasn't just me having issues. Unfortunately stuff like that lets me know that all in one package zips like that need to be worked on more.

you probably should have removed the voodoo lagfix to try to flash other roms since clockwork DOES NOT work with voodoo
alternatively you can install cognition, and install a different kernel if you dont want voodoo lagfix...
flashed it and it's great! except the gps is kind of on and off.

XD Adroid Questions, Too new to post in Dev, forum.

I have an HTC pure, running Energy Rom, SPB mobile shell 3.5.5, and XDAndroid.
Here are my questions.
1. XD Android keyboard is t9 and in japanese. I dwnld'd gineger bread keyboard, which didnt change the look at all. (yes, I am sure i had it installed and set up in settings correctly.) So what IME can I use to replace annoying japanese keyboard? Which also has no option to close keyboard (hard key back button works, but will often close app im using)
2. I can make calls, and recieve them, but THERES NO SOUND! no in call volume, period, adjusted every setting I can find. checked my startup .txt file, added suggested controll lines, no change.
3. Sleep button (remapped to end key) works about 10% of the time, only when turning screen off is it 100%, getting screen back on, is a crap shoot. why is this? buttons light up, dim in and out, but no screen response, have to hit it a bajillion times, to get a response, and sometimes the old on/off/power button (top) will turn screen on... and my LED is going nuts, back and forth from yellow to orange, constantly.. I read nearly 25+ pages of the XD android thread, no help there...
4. No droid on boot, Seems I have to boot android from the haret.exe starter, everytime I want droid running, why doesn't it boot with phone?
5. No SD card, I have on in, and its got all my droid related files on the root, but no app 2 sd b/c it doesn't read the card as being mounted.
6. live backgrounds, animated backgrounds arent working either? could be just the device, but idk anything about this..
7. what is the processor speed on a pure, and what is overclocking, what does it do, and should i pursue this with spb, windos 6.5 etc running..?
8. If I can get froyo on my winmo pure, why cant I get it on my aria? and what can you do to an aria? seems like nothing... stupid att?
9. is there a way to speed up android on my pure? should I wipe my phone clean, flash a low ram using rom, and then re install droid?
10. every so often when in market, phone reverts to flying droids spelling xdandroid, and gets looped there. wtf.
It's a big set of issues, hope help is on the way, also, I have searched, ad searched, so please, if you have nothing relavent to offer me in response to my questions, just leave.
Okay, fixed they keyboard issue, but it wont set a keyboard other than the stock one to default, I have to change it every time I type, or select a text box.
Annoying but an improvement.
Still not recognizing my SD card, and the camera isnt working period, been through multiple kernels, fx03 fx02, tried several command lins in my image text.
Still nothing.
Call issue seems to beback and forth, had my g/f call me sitting on the couch, and the call had sound, went through perfect. Went outside, and nothing, n o ring, no nothing, and went to voicemail on her end. visa versa, when I her phone rang, and connected, still no sound. seems to have a 1 in 5-8 sucess rate..
and still having issues with turning on the screen, once off, it takes several try's and multiple button clicks to get any response. Just led flickering and lots of dimming/lighting buttons.
all in all however, the look on my ATT store rep. when i whipped out my PURE, set it next to my aria, and said, "pure has froyo, aria is eclair" he about ****.. "how do you have froyo on a winmo phone??"
Magic
Thanks XDA, you guys are awesome! (plus with my windows rom running i have tehering for wi-fi router, and ability to side load apps into android on here makes it about 10X cooler than my aria, now if only stability, performance, and a better touchscreen, were factors..
Lastly, what can I do about the hardware issues, I realise the Pure must not have a very fast CPU, and WTF is over clocking and what are it's pro's cons'?
Seriously,o one can say anything about this after over one hundred views... wow guys, just wow.
I am right there with you. :/
If you've found any progress with this or a better build, email/add me:

[APP] 50% time without a signal fix - 2/2/2011

App: xtr50fix Android 2.1 only.
I made this app to try to help those with the 50% time without a signal issue. Learn more here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-647980.html)
The one trick that works with most 2.1 Eris ROMs is the airplane mode trick. All you do is put your phone in airplane mode for a little bit and turn airplane mode off and it fixes the issue.
Basically all this app does is upon boot, puts the phone in airplane mode then waits 12 seconds and then turns off airplane mode. Finally, it kills the service so it won't run again until the next reboot.
I know it's not elegant or anything, but it seems to do the job. There are no settings and there is no icon for the app. Just install the .apk and reboot your device.
Please let me know any feedback you might have... good or bad. Thanks!
2/2/2011 - v1 - Initial build. Seems to work fine on xtrROM and xtrSense.
Added some checks to make sure you are not already in airplane mode upon boot.
Sounds interesting, thanks! I just went back to xtrSENSE so this is perfect timing.
has anyone tried this app yet?

Yes, that works as well, however, you still have to do that every time you boot up.
This seems to have worked on my optimus v. Thanks for your efforts!
Prior to this, I was constantly getting the 50% without signal mess...
Works perfectly on my Optimus V. Thanks so much for developing and sharing this fix.

I'm only replying so you don't feel ignored. No idea, myself, but can you do a nandroid on the X and try flashing this to see? You might be the first person to try, so you can let us know if it works!
For the record to everyone, this seems to work just fine with Gingerbread ROMs, too.

Lol appreciate it! Unfortunately it didn't put my phone in airplane mode when it booted back up.
I don't have a Droid X to test on... however, I did compile the program with the Android 2.1 SDK so it should work on anything with >= Android 2.1
Note: Don't flash this program. Just install the .apk like normal.

Thanks Zach! Glad you included it. I bought a Motorola Droid off my friend so I don't use an Eris for my main phone anymore. I'll have to test this out on my mom's Eris which uses xtrSense!
This app fixes the 3G drops with my Optimus V. If anyone is looking for automated reboots in order to automatically apply this fix every day, I use Phone Prioritizer.
Thanks for this. Hopefully my battery life increases.
Can someone tell me how to install the fix on an Optimus V? I tried downloading it directly and I get a message saying it is unsupported. I also tried installing it from gmail and it didn't work either.
I am about ready to return the phone if I can't get it to work.
Thanks,
Paul
Make sure in settings->Applications-> you turn on Installing Apps from Unknown Sources.
TWS/data drop fix
The fix50 app did fix the TWS problem on my optimus but didn't seem to do much for the battery or fix the data drop issue. I ran across this fix posted by greenmonster on an Android Central forum (http://forum.androidcentral.com/optimus-v/57943-excessive-battery-drain-even-standby.html):
To fix the issue, dial *#*#4636#*#* and it will load the testing screen. You do not have to press call. Select phone information.
My understanding of the bug is that even though the preferred network is set to "CDMA auto (PRL)", it is actually set to "GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)" because of a display bug.
The fix is to press Menu and then "Select radio band". The process will then force close. Go back to Phone info and select "CDMA only" and then select "CDMA auto (PRL)".

I'm going on day 3 now (no reboot) and have had a noticeable increase in battery life an no data drops that require an airplane mode toggle. Any way this might be made/incorporated into an app similar to fix50?
Data drop/TWS update
So I finally had a hiccup about 9:00 last night that caused a data drop- it was right after I lost a phone call & during a pretty serious storm, so don't know if that affected anything. I'm still pretty happy- I've never gone more than three or four hours without having to do the airplane mode toggle due to data drops- 60 hours without a drop is encouraging!
Time without signal also stayed in the single digits...
Installed and working on my Captivate running Froyo. Good stuff.

this morning, it took me half an hour and an open window to get a lock,
now it jus took me merely 2 min
i used non-ssl btw

Outside, I don't use to have problems with GPS so, I didn't saw any difference.
Inside of the house it's like always, I didn't notice any difference too, no signal...
By the way, I use Navigon, that matters?
Thank you.
just tested the no-ssl update here, and i never seen a gps lock on 12 sat positions found inside (5 used).
great information , was very helpful indicating this gps is really improved. signal strength is perfect.

Of course I rebooted the phone. And I tried maps too, but is normal.
I live at the ground level, I have more 3 levels above me, and the wall to...
By the way, if parabolic dishes can't have obstacles within "X" meters to have satellite signal, I'm not expecting to have it inside of an apartment
Just a question... Why when I go to HIDE MENU / GPS TEST and select "standalone", if I don't change the settings back to "MS_ASSIST" GPS don't find satellites???
Strange, cause during the test, in "standalone", he catch the satellites as well as in "MS-ASSIST"

standalone is gps itself..
assist is *i think* a-gps..
point being, *i think* its only relevant to the test..
I thought the same but like I said before, if I leave in "standalone" it doesn't work.
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
worked beautifully...:good:
ROOTED?
is it requiring to rooted the device?
if YES.. then is it possible to have it work without rooting the device?
thx

I think it required roots, because you must have write access to system/etc
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
of course you need to be rooted, cause you need to mount /system/ as read/write to be able to push the file to /system/etc/
Why I can't just use Root File Manager (rooted) and change the permissions and copy-paste that file??
I tried to change the permission and it appears the same as before..
MyTracks problems
Hey everyone, first post here and I didn't feel like making a new topic, and this thread seems the closest I could find to my issue.
Have any of you tried using Google "My Tracks" with this phone? I just received mine, and had been using my old LG Optimus Net with My Tracks to record a gps track of my runs.
With my new 4X HD, there are substantial gaps in the track (this was while testing within a car). I haven't tried tweaking the recording settings in My Tracks yet, but this issue never occurred in any of my other Android phones. My Tracks is using all default settings.
I noticed that the track never broke up when I had the screen on, it was only when the device was locked. I tested a similar applicatoin (RunKeeper) on the return trip, and it worked perfectly. Any idea what's going on here, and have any of you experienced it?
Is anyone on JellyBean willing to test My Tracks next time they go for a drive, to see if this is an issue that might be fixed in the next OS update?
Here are two screenshots showing the issue I'm having.
I always use endomondo and never had problem with the GPS.
2/3 years ago I remember testing many tracking apps but the most reliable always seemed to be endomondo or locus.

Thanks for the reply. Would you be willing to do a quick test of MyTracks (with the screen off) next time you're in a car? I'd like to figure out if this problem is specific to my handset or if it's a common issue with this phone.
Doesn't seem to help for me...(Australia)
Ladies and gentlemen
Today I tried to install the patch by the 3 methods mentioned in the initial post, but I could not do it, even having access to root, RW permission, everything and anything.
Then experimented fourth method to install the patch (no-ssl in my case)
1 -> Download file.
2 -> Open "gps.conf" with a text editor, and copy all the text to the clipboard
3 -> Go to Folder "System/etc" create a file named "gps.conf" and long press it to edit as text, paste the text and save.
You are done!!
Many thanks to crypted
Can someone tell me what I can infer from the below screenshot. I do not understand this.
I tried "Google Specific CWM Flashable" and it seems to be working now - at night (yesterday), it wasn't do great but now, I can lock in about 30 seconds indoors and around 5 seconds outdoors.
