[Q] O2 Tethering and Nexus - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, sorry if this has been answered already but i did search and couldn't find anything to this specification.
I have been using my nexus on the o2 network with unlimited data for a while and have tethered for as long as i have had it.
Recently i have had to rely solely on my phones tethering for internet as my home connection is down for upgrades. For some reason i can no longer tether it connects and windows even shows internet access is available but will not connect to any site.
Using cmd and pinging google it just says net connection refused.
Has o2 blocked my tethering? If so has anyone had this before?
Thanks in advance.

Does direct connection from the phone work? Try to browse a few sites on your phone.
If direct connection works and tethering doesn't - try USB tether, if it also doesn't - then you might be right, even though it sounds very unlikely to happen (technically).

Internet Sharing via wifi

Hi there
My Laptop does not have wireless and I am trying to use my Touch Diamond to connect to the wireless at uni so that I can browse the internet on my laptop at uni. I am having two problems figuring this out.
I can connect to the wireless on my diamond at uni to the work connection like the instructions tell me to. But I cannot seem to use this connection to browse the internet. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
The next issue I have is that if I start the internet sharing tool I only have two options for the connection to share. The first is Telstra internet and the second is Telstra MMS I do not want to use these connections as i am on prepaid and all my credit would be gone in less than a minute.
I hope someone can give me some ideas as to what I am missing in this setup.
Thanks
Telstra Internet
I have now set the internet connection back to telstra but it doesn't want to load the telstra home page anymore. That is why I gave up last time. I wish I could use wifi when I have it and browse the free sites when I don't Telstra is very annoying.
Information
Hello, soon im gonna write a small guide as to how to use your phone incondunction with a router to allow all devices connected to the router to connect via the mobile phones internet connection. I understand that this is not what your askings as from my experence you will not be able to what your are asking. But if you have a unlimited data allowence then this would be a good option.
you need a router
you need wireless on your laptop (dongle/built in)
and some minor knowledge on setting up networks manually
keep your eyes out for the thread.
regards Vic

try to use wmwifirouter - it can use phones wireless and BT/USB connection to pc it will be a router for pc
Unsure
Thanks for your ideas although I might not have made myself clear.
The laptop does not have wireless. And I do not want to use the data connection on my phone as that will cost a fortune.
I wanted to get my phone to connect to the uniwireless and then allow my laptop to connect to the uni wireless for free internet via the phone.
I think I might just give up and buy a usb adaptor for the laptop.
Cheers
wmwifirouter does this !
Thanks
Oh ok, well I would have a look but i don't want to pay for it so im not going to try, especially as every time i have touched my network setup my free browsing stops working.
Thanks

Questions about Wifi

Recently in my HTC Touch viva ( opal ) i am getting some wifi networks near by and it is secured by wep key and i cant enter into them...
my questions are
1. Is it possible to know their wep key using any app?
2. If i get connected what will be the notification in their Pc?
3. Is it possible to get connected Hiddenly?
nope........
What about buying a data connection plan?
What about buying an internet connection plan instead of trying to get into someone's else. This is wrong! if you have no permission to access it then just don't do it.
I agree that it is useless to try to hack someone else internet connection as the internet subscription and access point price became very handy all over the world.
Anyway, here are some tools to play with

[Q] How to connect to the internet via laptop

So to cut a long story short in just a few months I will be moving into halls again for university. The problem I face is they only offer a wired connection to the internet, no WIFI.
Because I'm on a very very very cheap contract on my SGS2 I don't get any free interent and so my last option is to connect it to the internet via my laptop.
I have searched around and found that an ad-hoc network isn't comptable and I have also downloaded conectify (free version) but without success with either.
Without rooting my phone is there a way to use my laptop to connect my phone to the internet? It would be a little upsetting to lose it while I'm in halls
Does anyone have any suggestions? It would be much appreciated!

you mean then exchanging files through wireless, where the wireless LAN is established and maintained by the two phones and not by a 3rd device (router) ?
Exactly. But not only file exchange, I want rather to host a web-server on one phone and other phones can access it without having an internet connection.

I might be less informed than you, but then what is tethering about?
With tethering, the phone with WAN access (the tetherer) can share the internet to the phone without internet access (the tetheree)
It also shares the mobile data connection which I don't want. Maybe there is a way to start Wi-fi thetering without sharing the data connection?
Wi-Fi direct is what you are looking for, the bad news is that the sgs doesn't support it (to my knowledge).
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
Why not simply disable 'data' for mobile connection on server side?
Maybe you can control the corresponding traffic (port 80) with Droidwall.
I think this may be exactly what you want. It creates a local web server using the WiFi hotspot library so people can download files from your phone with a very to use QR system.

there are roms with wi-fi direct support. I was able using it with CM10
Thanks guys, I've solved it with the wi-fi hotspot option from cm10 & disabling the data connection.
And by the way, as a web-server I used Paw Server. It also supports PHP.

Tethering PS4 through VPN...and Tmobile still knows!?

Hello Everyone.
I am using a VPN and the Wifi Tether Router paid app from the market. I am curious as to how T-mobile still knows I am tethering, as I just got a "You used 80% of your High speed data" text from them (Have unlimited data plan)
Any ideas on how to completely hide? SSL? Proxy? Only seem to have issues with the Playstation and not the PC....
Any help appreciated...
The PS4 data probably shows up different on the network than PC data. I've read that T-Mobile put some new things in place on their end to identify data usage being masked.
Sent from my LG-H811 using XDA Free mobile app
I saw similar results. I noticed that when I tether, it doesn't route me through my openVPN connection regardless of the tethering method I use. You can test this on your own, fire up the vpn, then tether to your PC, then go check the external IP on your PC.
You'll most likely need a non-stock ROM for it to work. The ROM probably reports all MACs and the traffic passing through it to T-MO.
