how can i remove a cooked-in app? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

im using a rom that has launcher pro cooked into the rom.
im unable to uninstall it.
i have launcherpro plus (the paid version) and when i try to install it ontop of launcher pro, it says installation not successful
how can i completely remove launcher pro and replace it with launcherproplus?

Titanium backup has the option to remove built in software and otherwise unremovable software. Not sure if it will work but worth a try.

[Q] Possible to use Launcher Pro instead of ADW in CM7?

Is it possible to use Launcher Pro instead of ADW in CM7? (currently using nightly 41 w/ 041811C OC Kernl + ALSA) If so how do I uninstall ADW?
I tried uninstalling ADW using Titanium Backup but the force uninstall didn't work. I assume because it is prebuilt into CM7
Thanks!
first what is ALSA? and yes you can just download it and click the n and pick launcher pro.
uninstall adw using uninstaller for root or through terminal, if you cant uninstall it using the normal way

I use Zeam, but the result is the same. AFTER you install your Launcher, click the "n", then check the box to make the Launcher the default and select Launcher Pro.
Once your favorite launcher is the Default launcher, go into Titanium Backup and 'freeze" ADW.
Ive always found it best to leave a launcher in the backround. Especially helpful if you screw up and its un-runable
I use the Home Switcher app, it allows me to easily change home screen launchers and set defaults. Been useing it on all my devices since Eclair, its quite handy.

1.) Root your phone and install root explorer. Try to deodex your ROM first. I tried on odexed stock ROM and it still works fine.
2.) Install whatever launcher you want.
3.) Do a Nandroid backup (Just in case)
4.) Go to /system/data and delete away touchwhiz30launcher.apk (and its odex file)
5.) Go to /data and find your installed launcher. it should be com.something
6.) Move using Root Explorer to location of touchwhiz30launcher.apk
7.) Long press on your new launcher.apk and set permission to rw-r-r (important! if not you will end up with a bootloop)

i have a galaxy ace plus gt-s7500 , rooted and busybox installed. i have found the best way (worked for me) was to install titainium backup +pro key , then i installed my prefared launcher (holo launcher)press home button and select as default launcher, then did the following using t/b. open backup and restore , scroll down to holo launcher and long press on it select "convert to system app", when this is done normal press on holo launcher and select backup, when this done, normal press holo launcher again and select the following "restore" then choose option "app+data" , when this done then finally long press holo launcher and in the menu you should see" integrate update into rom " select. thats it. important, check the launcher is working ok then when happy ,uninstall tw launcher using titainium backup. the above method works with quite a few apps . but could vary from phone to phone so be careful. t/b will also freeze apps which is very useful to check if apps can be removed. as with everything its all experimentation so dont blame me if it does not work on your phone.my converted apps also update via googleplay with no problem

[Q] Widgets, why can't the be restored?

Hello peoples,
[hope i am in the right section now?]
I love android but hate having to restore widgets over and over again (i flash a lot of different kernels and roms). Up till now i have never found a way to backup and restore the widgets in there former glory (location/size/settings). I use Titanium backup/restore but i found that only a nandroid restore really restores everything (and that is not something i can use when trying out new kernels and roms)
Am i missing something? (an app for instance that will really save position and settings of a widget? Or is it just a know shortcoming in android? I have used almost every launcher around but none of them restore widget (position/size/setting)
Can someone link me to some wisdom?
ps: i understa...alvik VM that hosts the widget position/size?
66 views so far but no response...? Anybody?
Cause no one knows even me but I believe if you copy launcher data using tb and restore it although I didn't try but let me guess that it works

I think this because of the launcher. If you use Apex for example and you make a backup via the app all the settings will be saved on to SD card. If you want to use another launcher with the same widgets you'll need to replace them since the data cant be restored from apex etc. Some apps can import settings from others but this will be said by the app it self.
Like i said, it depens on the launcher. Perhaps to ask one of the developers of the launcher for more information.

[Q] how do i backup and restore widgets on touchwiz

hi
been searching for this and didnt find
tried mybackup pro, titanium, never found a way to restore just the widgets
im on LSZ rom 4.1.2
any way to do it ???
thx
Widgets depends upon your launcher. You need to backup your launcher using TB. But you can't restore the TW launcher app as it is system app but try restoring just the data from TB.
Better, use third party Launcher from market set your home screen widgets and backup using TB and when trying other ROMs just restore app and data.

i tried with titanium backup, it restores all the icons, but never the widgets
and i kindda like TW so using it, not other launchers
ok got it ....
ok well, been reading here and there and found that NOVA launcher is quite good and still uses the TW features like the S pen and Air View
and can backup and restore the android screens and widgets, so its a good solution
just upgraded to JON 7 rom and got back everything like it was
thx

Replce System UI

Hi,
Is it possible to replace the SystemUI only without flashing a custom rom?
I want to have the original Android UI like on Cyanogenmod but Cyanogenmod does not exist (and even never will be).
If it's possible, how?
Sent from my SM-G903F using XDA-Developers mobile app
Not really. Depending on what you're wanting to change, a launcher may do what your wanting. What are you wanting to change?
You could try Good Lock apk and replace Touch wiz Launcher for Nova or Google Now launcher for a stock feel
