Stock Apps - Captivate Themes and Apps

Not sure how but this topic keeps getting missed in the failed update mayhem. One thing seems obvious bloatware are needed for update to succeed. TB cannot restore these. Is it possible for someone to share them so we can install. Wothout flashong ising oden

Just use Odin.

Odin will delete everything though. Was hoping not to do that.

Also it seems ppl who used odin are the ones having problems updating. Does anyone have the att apk files and how can they be installed.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

Look at the survey in general you have been pointed to in other posts. You don't need bloat to have a successful update. Designgears has made an update. You can get the apk's off a system dump in dev.
Please look around and read. I'm not trying to come down on you, but all the questions and concerns you have, all legitimate, have been addressed.

I have saved on my computer Ryan's z4root.apk from 2-3 weeks ago, that will still Root won't it if I ever need on Stock 2.1.1?
I'd suppose it would - he just had to take out the root feature for some reason. The application wasn't defective.

Missing parts of roms

Hello I just started flashing roms from my phone with astro manager and everytime I download a new rom it doesn't flash the entire rom. It flashes part of it and leaves half if the other roms on my phone. Its not that they are the same because if see all of them before and now they look different and don't have all the cool stuff
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Not really sure how you're flashing ROM's with Astro?
Go to the Dev section and read through the guides. You should be using ClockworkMod Recovery to flash. Install Clockwork, reboot into recovery, wipe data, flash your Rom.zip, enjoy.

Where to begin?
I told you astro allows you to download roms to your phone directly, not actually flash a rom.
You should take a step back, I think it would be in your best interest to read more, ask more questions, and understand what you are trying before you try it.
You recovered from one soft brick, but that was only with step by step instructions. Knowledge will help prevent that from happening again
Yes guys I'm sorry, I meant I'm using astro but I'm flashing like im supposed to. The reason I asked the question was to find out how delete all my data work deleting important stuff. In recovery mode, I see delete cache data and delete user data (or something like that) and I didn't want to screw it up, bit i also want all of the rom, which I'm not getting. Please just tell me how and ill read the dev stuff asap

but that still didnt answer the question that was asked.
what do you think you are missing? apps? thats by design, you need to restore them with titanium backup.
stock bloat? by design
what specifically do you think you are missing on these roms?
I realize its a stupid answer but I don't really exactly know. The only thing I know is that I had a very long list of apps FROM THE ROM and now I dont. Maybe its just me but has anyone seen anything like this? If not then so be it, close the thread and ill deal with it.

Guide for N1 Root Gingerbread from OTA 2.3.3 without unlocking bootloader

Simple Guide for a Root N1 with Stock 2.3.3 Gingerbread, without unlocking the Bootloader.
Many thanks to danger-rat for finding everything.
1 - Make sure you have a backup of everything.
MyBackup Pro
2 - Unroot/restore guide from wiki, using passimg with the FRG33 image (may not work for everyone):

If you get the "main version is older" error here, you're out of luck... do not continue, because you can't.
3 - Root:

4 - Flash whatever you wanna flash (including a pre-rooted 2.3)

I have a question about this one; is there a kernel or a radio version that will prevent you from doing the passimg to FRG33? It would be useful to know it, in order to avoid even trying it.
By the way, working on stock GRI40, would i have that problem?. I made the manual upgrade from FRG33 to GRI40, flashing all the time stock rom's from Google.
I've no idea what causes the "main version is older" error, so it seems like the only way to find out it's to try. Theres no risk in trying, except a few minutes of your time...
I've heard people suggest the hboot may be the problem, or the radio, or this, or that, but I've never seem anything to bring me to the same conclusion...
I believe efrant suggested that refurb phones may be the ones effected, and I'm kinds thinking he may be on the money...?

Should work. The only potential stumbling block is the passimg step, which doesn't work for a small number of people (no idea why)...

I've downloaded frg33, renamed it to PASSIMG.zip and moved it to the sdcard (Root folder), yet when I boot into hboot it doesn't recognise it (Does the search but then nothing). Any solutions?

If the zip holds another zip then use it.. I once failed to use rom just because of that.
Nope just files.
Make sure it's not named passimg.zip.zip (Windows often hides the extension).
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
Nope, it's PASSIMG.zip. I'm not sure if the file is corrupted, I tried downloading it about 3 times so far, none of them have worked.
Even if it's corrupted, your phone should still see it, and report an error.
The only reasons the phone wouldn't see it would be if the file is named incorrectly, in the wrong location (not on root of card), file is missing, SD not mounted, etc...

Your only option then is to unlock your bootloader, or wait...
Is your phone a refurbished or repaired one?
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk
No its not refurbished. I just got this phone new and it wasn't rooted to begin with at 2.2 and I made the mistake of updating to 2.3.3. I am assuming there will be a development in the works for this issue or another walkaround to this.

How to apply the leaked update?

I got the file, put it on my sd card, booted into recovery with power+ x the file was re named to update.zip but in recovery its called update.zip.zip and when I try and apply it, it fails. Can anyone tell me how to apply the update properly that's done it? I've never done a leaked update so I'm not sure how to.

you need to rename it to simply update. Its already in .zip format anyways..
And, not to be rude, but if you don't know what you're doing you shouldn't be doing this.

Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
Actually you don't need to rename it to update.zip. I had to flash with the original blur file name. Renaming it to update.zip would always cause it to fail for some reason(and I checked multiple times it that it was update.zip and not update.zip.zip.)

Rom manager

Can someone please help me out. I flashed back to Odin 2.1 and now I can't get Rom Manager back. It's in my titanium backup, but it wont let me reinstall it. Does anyone know of an APK for RM or have a link to a good kernal with it in it? I want to put a good rom in it but I'm having trouble without RM. I've seen warnings about Bootloading too, so I'm leery of doing it that way.
Can someone help me out please. Thanks in advance.

Try to please post in q&a.
Get root. Install apk from market. Apply update. Flash a 2.2 rom. Easy and simple. GOOGLE.
If you mean install the App itself, RM is no longer available for the Captivate. Only RM Pro and its just a activation code. RM won't even show up on the market with the Cappy. It does for my SGS2.

Depends on what version of android. Just look for kernels for that specific version and you will have CWM. Doesn't really have to match but better that way if you mess up. Get the kernel with cwm and flash with ODIN.
rom manager only works with captivate 2.1 android (eclair)
you do not even need to search to find all the info you need. stickies are at the top of each forums first page for a reason. read them all... in each captivate section... q&a, general, development (read dont post)
And with that
Thread closed.
