Battery issues with CM6 nightly - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had a CM 5.0.8 based ROM a few weeks ago and my battery was working well enough. I just installed CM6 (CyanogenMod-6-09232010-NIGHTLY-DS) and now my battery runs out while the screen is off at night if it's not plugged in.
When I go into Spare Parts -> Battery History, selecting Other usage and Since last unplugged, "Running" has a red bar and is at 99.9%. "Screen On" also has a red bar and is at 7.6%, and the same with "Phone on" with 0.7%. It's almost exactly the same for "Total in all time"
I can't figure out exactly why that's happening, but it seems to be part of the cause. I just have no idea how to fix it
For CPU Usage, "Total since boot" has red bars for "suspend" and "android system", but both are very small
For Network Usage, "UID 10007" has a mostly red bar with a bit of blue.
I can get screenshots if that's not enough information, but that's all I can find anyway.
Also, when I tap the "Running 99.9%" thing, it says that the amount of time without sleeping is 3+ hours. This isn't right; that's the amount of time the phone has been on, but it's been in sleep mode most of that time. It seems like the phone isn't actually going to sleep or something. Either way, while using the phone my battery runs out too quickly.
Are there any apps that cause this in the background, maybe? I have Swiftkey, Google Voice, and Astrid, all of which seem to run processes constantly. Then again, I've never had any problems before.

[Q] Froyo 2.2 - Change in Battery Performance?

Before, I was running a stock 2.1 Eclair, with a Voodoo LagFix, and LauncherPro (using all 7 screens with widgets). My battery then, would last all day, easily, as long as I wasn't using GPS. I had all my email settings, and widget settings to update EVERY HOUR. For a smart phone, with many widgets running and lasting all day, it was wonderful.
Fast forwarding to now: I updated to the new Froyo 2.2, and re-installed all the apps I previously had, along with the Voodoo LagFix for 2.2, LauncherPro (still using all 7 screens with the SAME widgets) and set all of my applications (that do need updating) to update EVERY HOUR. Now, I literally sit back and watch the battery percentage just drop. Ex. My battery was at 97%, but after writing this, it's now at 93%. In about 2 minutes....what the hell?
Has anyone else noticed a change in your battery performance? I've downloaded the OS Monitor to see if anything new has been added, and that's draining the battery, but there is nothing showing that wasn't before. I'm wondering in there is something new that was added, which is running in the background. Ideas?

Yeah, because 2.2 charges differently. 2.1 will charge all the way up to 4.3V whereas 2.2 will only charge up to 4.0V (sometimes a little higher). So the initial drain seems faster, but once you get to about 80% it is the same.
Yeah, I agree with what @ryude posted. Mine went from 100% to 95% rather quickly yesterday but it stayed at about 95% for a while. I went to bed with around 48% and when I woke up (about 6-7 hrs), it was about 40%. So the battery life seems slightly better. BTW, I'm running stock with LauncherPro.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep an eye on it. I was just wondering if others have experienced any similarities and if it was just something normal (as mentioned above) or if there is some new function running in the background by default which is draining the battery. Cheers.
I'm actually noticing an improvement in battery performance, with everything on my phone being equivalent pre-update to post-update.
No lagfixes or anything like that installed, though.

Screen on 0% brightness uses about 400 mW and on 100% brightness uses almost 1000mW. I've seen CPU usage spike over 400mW but usually stays around 100mW. Wifi uses about 50mW when on and 10mW in low power state (screen off).
So those are the big 3 power drainers right there.
If you did not put the update on at 100% you might have a problem with the battery stats a simple way to fix that on stock would be a complete drain on the battery

Ok, here are a couple things I have found thus far.
One - After installing the Voodoo LagFix for 2.2, and rebooting into recovery mode, I was actually booted into ClockworkMod - Voodoo Lag - Recovery Mode. That's something new. Anyways, there is an option to "clear battery stats". After briefly reading about this on another thread here on xda, the individual said it's a must to do. I'm not sure if this is because of the Voodoo Lag Fix or what, but I did it and will report back at the end of the day.
Two - This is something new in Froyo 2.2, and it was never an option in 2.1. After going into Settings - Location and Security - and un-checking "Use wireless networks" and the re-checking it, it says "Location Consent - Allow Google's location service to collect anonymous location data. Collection will occur even when no applications are running." That right there could be the reason why the Maps app is constantly running? I turned it off, which I have never done and have always left on, but will see if this makes a difference as well.
I'll report back with results tonight.
I've had a similar issue. Updated from an unrooted, untouched stock eclair to the new stock froyo release, left it charging overnight and today not only was the battery dead in less than 6 hours, but the phone had used all of the data from my limited data plan. I have not installed anything and never had a launcher or any other thing of the sort. No lagfix, nothing.
Now I went with a factory reset, since that is clearly recommendable after any os installation (or before actually) and will see how it goes from here...
Also, the phone would not recognize my sim card at times, so I'd have to reboot to get it working, sometimes more than once... That, however, seems to have been solved with the factory reset...

I had massive drop from around 45% to under 10% in an hour last night. I figured it was a glitch after the upgrade so I did a full charge with the phone on, then powered it off. "full" charge powered on turned out to be around 95%, the remaining 5% charged while it was off.
After doing that and then powering back on, I've found my battery life today (first full day after update) to be pretty good so far.

The location consent prompt has always been there since eclair and is part of how google collects data on locations and cell towers. Like you said, it pays to turn off unless you're using the maps or other location dependent app.

Milestone RC4 CM7 nadlabak draining battery FAST

Hey guys,
I'm running the latest release from nadlabak, 04.10 one.
I experienced battery issues on some previous releases as well, however i don't know if it's this release or what, but the battery usage is draining very fast!
I am not really running anything, I have liveprofile auto memory manager, and handset sms. liveprofile doesnt even really run, i barely use it so it should be either in the background or not running.
i looked at the battery usage stats, it shows email is using about 40% of the battery draining.
my phone is VERY warm, feels like the cpu churning through something... i can run at 52vsel with 1000mhz vrate. fine and still my battery is about 40% after 2 hours.
I reset to factory clock speeds and it drains the same if not faster!
not sure what's going on but its driving me nuts, google maps also shows to be running in the background, however i never turn it on, i reboot my phone, leave it as is and it shows maps is using 10% battery usage roughly when i havent even initiated it to be running(unless it always has a service in the background?)
i had releases from march that ran better, about 8 hours of battery life. and i believe even a april release was working fine. but now this latest release especially seems to suck up the battery, i dont know if its the releases or if something else has changed...but its very annoying holding a very WARM phone and having the battery get sucked up in 3 hours.
Looking at spare parts, does it sleep at all?
40% usage from email is high so something is wrong there but I doubt it's CM7.
Also, what AMM settings are you using?
Hi there, I'm running the following:
vmheap 40mb
amm: 6, 13, 24, 40, 51, 63.
any suggestions?
where do i find out if it sleeps, im in spare parts.
In Spare Parts, the first item is Battery History.
Go there and it will show how long your battery has been running (%) since unplugged.
If you select the top drop down list, select Partial Wake Usage to see which apps might be keeping the phone awake.
Where did you get those AMM numbers from?
I'd suggest my Balanced 3 (6-8-26-28-30-32) for a nice mix of free memory without being overly aggressive on the background apps.
If you use any of my scripts, disable AMM from having superuser permissions.
I had gotten the stats from another popular thread on this forum.
ill try your stats as well.
vmheap still 40?
also i still notice email is the one that has a huge bar graph usage on the partial usage stat page. not sure why email is being kept awake..
should i factory reset?
have you wiped cache/dalvik? If not do that.
Sent from my Milestone
I had wiped the caches multiple times, tried a lot of things, everything accept a factory reset.
I did a factory reset for the hell of it, set the amm settings as requested vmheap to 40.
everything seems to be running smooth and fine at 1000mhz 54vsel
and the battery usage is at 90% while being unplugged for 7 hours, will monitor to see if the usage drops substantially later on in the night but so far i think things may be fixed.
Battery usage is nearly constant.
That's not good at all.
Something is keeping it away.
What does spare parts show now for partial wake apps?
The partial usage is like 5% now vs what was like 50%. and email isnt even probably 2%. handcent sms is taking up the 5% roughly.
its at 80% after being on battery for 8 hours 26 mins. and i have probably used it for about 30-45 mins worth of on screen time, rest idle.
Oh wait, I think I misunderstood.
You meant that you had 90% left and only 10% used up, right?
If that's the case, that's pretty amazing.
I have expirienced that if I haven't done full wipe(factory reset) my battery is drainin like a crazy. That's happing in all roms I have used. So my opinion is to apply any update or now rom on clean Milestone
how to delete apps in android
i have recently started using android on htc hd2.. i am bit annoyed with the fact that i could not unistall a few apps which i am never going to use. eg liveprofile..and it keeps starting automatically
so could anyone tell me how to remove such apps?

[Q] My Awful Battery Experience

The battery life on my NC is absolutely horrible. I average 3 hours unplugged, 1 hour if I'm using it. It doesn't seem to charge up all the way -- after plugging it in the light on the Nook cord is orange for about 10 minutes then goes green even though the screen still stays "Not enough power to turn on - Try again in 15 minutes".
I've tried using software like juicedefender and other battery mon apps that are supposed to be able to predict when you're going to lose your power -- but they appear to be useless. Often I'll get the "Your Battery is Getting Low" message at the very same time as the "Shutting Down" dialog appears -- almost like there was a very sudden dramatic drop in available power.
I am beginning to wonder if it's the result of faulty hardware.
Has anyone else experienced problems like these? Or should I restore back to stock and send it in for warranty?
That definitely sounds abnormal. I'd probably restore it back to factory and if it's still acting like that, you'll know it's not due to any modifications.
Yeah, I second that. Mine drains pretty quickly, I go from 100% to about 60% in a day with normal usage. I use Wifi Auto Toggle to turn Wifi off when the screen turns off. So far I have to recharge every other day or so. But what the OP has going on sounds pretty extreme.
What ROM are you using?
What programs have 'keep screen alive' do you run?
How bright is your screen?
Screen/wifi burn most of the power in this - so minimizing them helps battery life considerably.
I had one game (HexDefense) that prefers to run in maximum brightness and burned through the battery very quickly. Nook was the warmest I've ever seen it and the temperature on my battery monitor actually moved for the first time ever.
SO if you're getting 3 hours doing nothing, that's bad. If you're getting 3 hours running a really processor/graphic intensive game, that's good.
If you can get it back to stock and still have low battery life, consider talking to the manufacturers about it.

You really question this? Something is wrong with your NC, cable, or charger.

So is this the AOS bug?

XXKL3
At the time I turned off the wifi thats when I stopped using the phone. About 54% battery when I went to sleep and about 7hrs later 1% left.
Your device did not enter into a deep sleep due to some program still running actively in the background. You should use another battery usage tracker for better tracking on specific applications that are running in the background causing the drain.
I should have a bar on the awake portion right ?

Not sure what you meant. Background sync and many applications are classified under Android System so there is no way to tell who is the culprit.
My own usage stops at the part where Awake and screen of bars stop, if an app was keeping the phone awake, I should have a bar on the awake section and none on the screen.
Hi,
This issue is familiar with me. So in wifi settings you have a special option which can be bring up by pressing the menu key which is left from the home button and there is a menu special or something.. and there you can turn on to switch off the wifi when the screen is locked! and do NOT forget to SAVE your changes by menu button!!
Hope this will help u
This issue seems to be going on and off but now its back again.
4hrs since unplugged dropped to about 92%
Just to be fair, it does show that in 4 hours you have used your screen, so much so that it's the 2nd thing on the list. I'm still playing with my SGN but on my SGS2 my screen is always #1 or #2, depending if I use it a lot or a little that day. And Android OS is always #1 or #2 as well. I'd say in 4 hours, 92%, that equates to 2% an hour, which isn't bad, while still turning on your screen every once and a while. At that rate you'll go over 2 days (50 hours), which is pretty good as I recall.
I forgot to take a snap on the screen time, it only has less than 7mins of usage.

[Q] cm10.1 how to sleep deeper

My HD+ running Cm10.1 (verygreen emmc) uses 10-15% battery sleeping through a day. Battery status showing "keep awake" under "Android OS" being the largest consumer. I noticed that notifications are very alive during sleep as it beeps periodically. Is there a setting that will allow me to put everything on hold (deeper sleep?) after a certain time into superficial sleep (screen off)?
Thanks

I don't think 10-15% a day is very much... Much better than any of my android phones.. Tablet will probably last about nine days if you don't touch it. Here are my stats.. I've barely been using it.
10-15% on the Nook HD+ is actually quite a bit.
I leave wifi off and might lose 1% over 24 hours, sometimes no loss at all.
something is draining it.
I think this should fare better than phones because (1) there is no constant-on cellular radio, and (2) it has a much larger battery. When screen is off the power consumption should be comparable with a phone with similar cpu/mem minus the radio. so more juice and less consumption = longer standby.
In any case, I am looking for settings/config that will, e.g. turn wifi off after screen is off, and perhaps freeze the running apps. I suppose such controls exist, but I could not find anything in the "settings" ...
On a related note, How did many apps mange to run themselves without my consent? I used ES task manager to disabled many programs from the start-up list, but some apps (some not even in the list to begin with) would be appearing in running apps list from time to time even though I am sure I did not start them after a reboot. Facebook and Youtube seem always running; some games also do that. I would kill them, and a while later they would be running again. Is it possible to really prevent apps from starting by themselves?
Sean
10-15% is horrible. I don't know what phones you have but none of mine are near that bad. As for a tablet that is doubly bad and on this one in particular since it has no cell or gps radio. If you check my SIG you will see I've personally owned several tablets and I can assure you not even one of them nor the six or seven more owned by other family members I play with have lost so much during sleep cycle. At 15 percent you would only get 6 and a half stand by days lmao. No this is a matter of inefficient kernel controls.
agreed 10-15% is completely out of character for the Nook HD+ .more like an app sucking the power or that particular build.
The Nook HD+ is one of the most efficient tabs in existence for deep sleep mode.
which build are you running?

Cm10.1 verygreen emmc 0712 (was on 0719 but had spontaneous reboot problem so flashed back).
We have another HD+ running stock, and that one has much better standby time. I've installed the same launcher and pretty much the same apps (both are on the same google account).
I'm not with the HD+ now, but basically, "Android OS" and "Google Service" each uses 30% of the power, while the rest are much smaller. So I could not pinpoint an app as culprit.
I do have location service enabled; maybe GPS as well (would that make a difference?). Email is set to check every hour.
How do I make wifi off automatically off while sleeping? (Wifi is not even a big consumer in the list though.)
