This doesn't make any sense. Why would on install wm on the GS? Just get an HD2 or wait for a WM7 device.

The problem is you are not likely to find support for anyone doing this for 2 main reasons.
1) Most people prefer Android.
2) It would be illegal, Windows Mobile has a licencing fee that was not paid for with your phone. (You see Android ports on WM phones because Android is free, it isn't allowed the other way around)
So you should not maintain any hope that it will never happen.
Samsung has other phones in the works that will support Windows mobile. They've just announced a blackberry styled windows mobile at the commincaAsia conference this year.
I highly doubt their windows mobile line will come any where close to what their Galaxy (Android) family.

I think it would be interesting to see how it performs with the hardware in the SGS. I do miss some of me apps on me Touch hd which is why I've kept it, tomtom for 1 and its easier to get flash support (cant wait for Froyo).
Also easier to change the system setting such as the bluetooth's minimum bitpool coz my sgs sounds rubbish in the car.

I've been using WM for the last 7 years. My last WM phone was a Omnia 2 - The phone is great but I regret so much investing money in a device which OS is no longer supported by Microsoft... My only hope is Android for my WM phone.

Can WinMo actually be ported to other devices? I read somewhere that this is next to impossible since WinMo is closed.

I wonder how to make all the drivers? Although I've heard rumors that a SGS similiar device is coming for win mo. 7 so those could be used I guess.
*sigh* Closed source probably isn't a problem. If anything, it can actually be a good thing sometimes. It only generally benefits those who want to modify the core of a system (because it isn't extendible enough), or security patches.
For instance, even on Windows, IFS allows EXT3/EXT4 drivers to be developed without Windows source code, and Microsoft have actually evolved past Linux in regards to backwards compatibility (you don't need to recompile their modules every kernel release).
What's important is that the OS is designed for ARM, and their driver development SDK is comprehensive enough. So is it?
Right now im just makeing open bootloader to make it actually run. Else for drivers and all we need more developers. And this will take time

it'll defeat the whole purpose of getting the SGS
However if we can do Dual Boot, then it'll be intersting to play around with WM7 on the SGS
Since i have many programs that i still can't find replacement for in Android
it'll be handy to be able to Dual Boot to WM to run the old software

Microsoft will start sending builds to OEMs to begin testing in Q1 2010. WM7 will be released in Q3 2010. I expect to see builds out sometime in Q1....however, I'm not too sure these builds will run on anything presently out besides the HTC HD2 because the CE kernel would have been recompiled for ARMv7 cores.

It's a very technical requirement.
The Windows CE kernel, very integral part of Windows Mobile, is being compiled for ARMv7 for Windows Mobile 7 (thought to be based on CE6.0 or CE7.0). Currently Windows Mobile 6/6.1/6.5, the CE (CE 5.X) kernel is compiled for ARMv6 which runs on many chipsets today (Qualcomm 720X for example).
ARMv7 architectures (ie. Snapdragon, Cortex A8, NVIDIA Tegra) are backwards compatible with ARMv6 which is why the HTC Touch HD2 (Snapdragon) can run Windows Mobile 6.5. However, ARMv6 architectures (X1, TP1/2, Touch HD, etc) are not compatible with ARMv7 code (missing/different instructions).
So unless a very smart cook can somehow recompile code (need the source code) or combine different parts, there will be no WM7 for any current windows mobile device besides the HTC HD2.
x1 didn't get wm6.5 officially if it will get wm7 which will prob not be out until a year from now don't expect it to come from official sources.....
Min requirements for WM7 is 1Ghz CPU (actually because of the instruction set), but also G-sensor and compass. HD2 maybe. Xperia no way.
Well you say processors like Tegre will be able to run WM 7, but i checken and Tegra is still ARM v6...
Anybody has any real source saying Wm 7 will be only for ARMv7?
As for G-semsor multitouch and sucks, that is all softwere, you can turn this things off, so apat from procesor, nothing else matters for WM7 to run X1, onl ARM v6 code is needed, all else can be done by cooking.

Please dont speculate about things there was lightyears ahead. Wait untill the time will come. We dont have seen WinMo 6.5 official on X1 yet, therefore we think about other things, which atm is morge important.

Not knowing enough about ROM cooking, I am wondering if any devs have opinions on the feasibility of this.
I am NOT interested in opinions about Windows Mobile 7 by itself, or as compared to any other platform, Android or otherwise, so please don't bother posting "b-b-but WinMo sucks", etc.

Almost impossible since WP7 isn't open source.
(And it's not finished yet anyway.)
Also, Windows Mobile 7 =/= Windows Phone 7
My understanding is that Windows Phone 7 is to the WinMo platform what Centrino is to Intel-based notebooks, i.e. a set of required hardware to guarantee a certain experience.
Windows Mobile 7 (as in the OS itself) has been ported to the HTC HD2, right?
I just wondered if the same might not be possible now that the WinMo 7 SDK is out (not in final form, I know, but still...)??

I've seen articles on some bootloader that will let you dual boot WinMo 6.5 and Android from a WinMo phone. Is it possible to do the same on an Android handset?

It's a hell of a lot easier to port Android to a WinMo phone due to the fact that it's open source (hell, it's even been ported to iphone).
Getting any version of WinMo ported to Android would probably be possible, but incredibly difficult.
Ah, good point I hadn't thought of. I guess I just figured that even though WinMo isn't open source, enough of the hardware is common between devices these days so that drivers baked into WinMo would just work. Showing my novice, obviously.
I own a Samsung Galaxy SII T-989 and, because I come from the "Windows" side rather than Linux or Apple, I would like to be able to completely wipe out the Gingerbred ROM that came with the phone and install a "cooked" ROM based on Windows Mobile 7 or, at least Windows Mobile 6.5.
I am hoping that, all those great developers connected to this site and spending so much time on cooking roms and rooting android phones, maybe one day they would look into this project that will become, I am sure, the greatest challenge, the pinnacle of all great things ever accomplished and recorded on this amazing forum.
I'm sure that nobody will bother:
1) It's going to prove VERY complicated, to say the least. Without "inside job" with the drivers, just plain impossible.
2) It's useless. If you're after Windows Phone 7 phones - just go and buy yourself one. Installing Android on it will be much easier than the other way around, and most probably it was already done.
Because of both of the points, it won't happen. There are reasonable challenges, and there are oh-so-stupid ones. And people mostly have lives. So if I were you, I wouldn't hold on to the hope, and would just go out and buy WinPhone 7.
Specifically for point 1: Microsoft certifies all the HW that is licensed to work with their OS, and all the drivers are made ONLY for this HW, and not for anything else. VERY CPU- and board-specific. Seeing that you have a Samsung phone, which doesn't have this HW or anything like it, I'd say that the chances of hell freezing over are higher than your phone getting Win7 port. Well, at least until your specific CPU (which happens, unlike most other SGS2 ones, to be of the "right" brand for Win7 phones) and phone motherboard (which might never become a base for Win7 phone) gets certified and has drivers done for it - happens only if exactly the same base will be used for Win7 phone - and Microsoft outsourcing them. I'd bet my money on hell freezing over
I really love Windows Mobile OS but my uncle gave me a Milestone for my birthday! I wonder that could anyone have an idea to set up Windows Mobile OS on my Milestone. I think this is a best combination! Maybe I'm so silly but I'm still hoping.

This would be nearly impossible if not impossible because of the locked bootloader no custom kernel can be loaded to run windows mobile

The nearest approach for windows is "Android windows 7" from android market.
You can use skin which look just like winmo 7 home screen.It's somewhere here.Search forums...

I have a solution. You should sell the MS for somebody. According to you buy new smartphone that it is supported by WM. Recommending HTC HD 2 or 7
Android is open source so it can be ported to other devices.
WM/WP7 is not open source and can't be ported to other devices that shipped with a different OS i.e. Android. Even if you could it would be illegal to so do.
Android is so much better than WM/WP7 that you must be on some good w&&d if you think otherwise =P Learn to love Android and flash the good ROMs that people have made for Milestone, or sell your phone to someone who can appreciate it and get something that fits you "needs" better.
FYI a bit of searching on XDA would have answered this question without wasting time.

Seems like a legitimate question to me, ViewSonic's ViewPad 10 already does Android-Windows dualbooting, and XDA itself has a thread about dualbooting the HD2 with WM and Android.
If the OP's asking about Android and iOS specifically though, then probably the answer might be no. If someone could do it though, it might actually be a good thing for the Android crowd: shows the Apple fans that choice and customizability is a good thing.
I was thinking the other day that my Tab would be pretty cool if running Windows Thin PC, saw info and a download on the MS site the other day while working on my wifes netbook.
I dont see a problem with either a full working version of Ubuntu or Windows on the GT and Android, or just the full OS. Seems reasonable to put an OS on what is essentially a tablet PC.
I would think its just a matter of a bios, and loading the OS, but I am not a programmer, so I could very well be wrong.
But....I'd load Windows or Ubuntu on the tab if it gave me the 3G ability as well as all other functions.

IIRC I think there's already a thread on XDA on bringing Ubuntu to the Tab. With Windows it might be trickier. The ViewSonic ViewPad 10 runs on Intel Atom, which is already used by other netbooks that run Windows. Windows might not be designed to run on ARM however, which is used on many Android devices. Processor design differences may be the key factor in porting the OS. (I've gotten Gingerbread to run on my Atom netbook though, alas I still couldn't get the touch screen to work)
Would be the first to jump onto dualbooting Android with Windows if it ever comes to fruition though; I'm a Windows developer and it'll be cool if I could write small apps and use them on my Tab.

You can't run Windows because there is currently no ARM version, though MS say that they will support ARM in Windows 8, but by the time this sees the light of day, the Tab will be obsolete.
There is a thread in the dev forum about porting Ubuntu to the Tab, but I believe it is still a long way from fully functional.

I already posted the question about fully functions in ubuntu for the tab. Specially the phone and sms functions but they denied it. I keep following and hope some day it will work

since both iOS and Android are ARM based in most cases, you could probably make it happen.
Both Android and iOS are Unix based, so we could achieve this.
Also
It could be easier to port iOS than Honeycomb because iOS source code is avalaible for public, for improvements and bug seeking.
So, Yes, we could have dual OS on the tab, it could be windows, Ubuntu, Maemo, iOS and even Symbian

Got this idea tonight , I was thinking about this and im sure that this as been done before , is there anyways to install windows phone on an android device such as Samsung Galaxy s. Also are there some restrictions that could make this not able to do so.

Not impossible, it's been ported to HD2. And other phones I believe but i know for sure Windows 7 was not meant to be on HD2

Hopefully there is spark at some point. There is a lot of talk though that Microsoft is trying to bully their way into having smartphone manufacturers load thee OS and allowing the consumer to be ale to dual boot. That article can be see over at many tech blogs including Znet.
Till now, there is not any known method to do this. Android OS is the best OS in the world. Almost every application is available for android. Also it is most customisable. I would recommend you to stay with Android and install WP launchers to get windows phone like stuff/looks

I have never heard of any way to flash WP 7/8 on Android devices ...
Only device that got WP7 and did not run it natively were the Toshiba TG01 and the legendary HD2

I just write all my own apps for my WP... Android OS is a little clumsy and I think it's ugly... let me know if anyone finds out how to do this... I'd buy a galaxy in a minute if it weren't for the crappy OS.
