I been using SpbTV and loving it for regular and international tv.Hulu doesnt work but Veoh does, all you have to do is set user agent to iphone or just manualy type in their iphone cite.I find Veoh way better than Hulu and its free.On Veoh you can stream movies or download them, now because its not an iphone sorting features are broken but its not a big deal, plus they have alot of new and kung fu movies-thats why i pick veoh over hulu anytime.

http://www.veoh.com/iphone/ You can do this on your pc also without having to download bloated Veoh app.If you using Dolphin HD go to browser settings and change "user agent" to ipad or iphone restart Dolphin, after that any site you visit will automatically take you to iphone site.

I snagged the bitbop beta app.

why do you need the IPHONE URL? I am running a modified version of FLASH and I just go to www.veoh.com and it works fine playing flash video..

$10 dollars a month and they STILL show you commercials? That is beyond ridiculous. You can get an entire netflix subscription for less with zero commercials.

Update on this..this app is well worth 10 bucks if you like to watch current shows (Glee, Family Guy, etc.). Being able to save the shows to your phone is sweet! Quality is fantastic (running CM 6.1 official) and the app scales with Restoggle.
I caught up on the last 3 episodes of "Terriers" and am in the process of watching the entire second season of "The League" right now.
It doesn't seem to limit how many shows you can download either and its all commercial free. If this app continues to add fresh content (ie "Justified" in January) to the already extensive list of better-than-basic cable channels, $10 bucks is a great value for being able to save and watch directly from my EVO.

Why hasn't a Flash Player been developed??

All I'm looking for is a standard flash player that would play .flv, .swf and h.264 files from video channels like YouTube, Vimeo, Exposure Room, etc...
They all use a standard flash player which streams, or downloads the files so it shouldn't be that difficult to implement I would think.
The Hero rom has already shown a flash player that works, basically as a plugin to the browser, so there must be a way to port it to the other roms.
I'd like to see this too.
wait until October, which is when adobe will be releasing their flash player for the android platform. and btw the flash player on hero sucks and is utterly pointless. I believe its Flash 8 all the sites you listed req Flash 10.
I found the Hero one to be usable, but only just. The sound seems ok, but the picture is a bit stuttery. It will be interesting to see if it's really the old hardware used in the Hero that's not up to it, or whether a differnt app can do better. I hear that the beebplayer is also poor on the Hero - not tried it yet - so perhaps it's the hardware?

can you please provide a link to this article?
there is one check the market
Yeah, I had no luck what so ever trying to play video from any of the top video sharing websites, due to the fact that the player version was 8.0. I did however have great success with viewing flash-based websites (typically exported as Flash 8 or earlier for compatibility).
That is going to be an issue that the Flash player will have to contend with when it is released in October. The player will have to be updated regularly everytime a new version of Flash comes out. Hopefully Adobe will stay on top of that, or the player will become obsolete very quickly.
I hope you don't mean the Android7 Flash Player in the market?
http://www.cyrket.com/package/org.android7.flashplayer
It will play an .flv and what not, but you would have to have the file locally on your phone.
It isn't a browser-based solution where you can click on a video link and then launch the player to begin streaming, or downloading the video like you can with the YouTube player.
That is what we need, only for any website that is hosting a flash-based video. Either that, or these websites have to begin offering free downloads of the original uploaded videos.
We saw a sneak peak of what's to come with the flash-enabled Hero rom, but like we all know, that is only for version 8.
Actually, the Flash Player in Hero is so far pretty sufficient, it actually can play YouTube videos, you just have to click on the video itself and it will open in the Flash player.
However, I do agree, further development would be nice. For example, when on sites like Myspace, I would like to hear some profile music playing, it would just in total add to the whole "internet phone" concept.

Flash, being proprietary closed source crap, is contrary to the nature of android. Adobe has in the past been VERY slow in supporting new platforms, so quite frankly, it really should die altogether. There are plenty of open source alternatives for flash-type content that can be used instead. Instead of complaining here, you should complain to the content provider who chose to use that crap format.

if it was a winmo phone then he can do it because he was using skyfire. his phone doesnt have flash but skyfires servers do.
skyfire uses proxy servers to intercept browser requests which are then compressed and sent to skyfire enabled phones. the proxy server technology has the smarts to take flash video/games, java and other desktop class features that normally slow down mobile browsers dramatically, if those features are even supported, and render them correctly, truly giving mobile users flash.
The one on hero is pretty good, you can play games on sites and stuff, but looking forward to 10 coming out

That is true, there are actually 2 TV apps in the market. SPB TV and Television. Both of them are HORRIBLE. I mean seriously, who in the US is interested in Al Jazeerah TV? or the christian programming channel? C'mon. Those apps have the worst channels I've seen. with like 10 24 hour news channels in all sorts of languages. I guess if you have nothing better to do it is worth turning on, but not paying for it.
This is just an opinion from a new yorkers POV

EyeTV is an USB TV Tuner for Mac and‚ (possibly PC) that allows you to watch TV on your computer. The iphone app appears to stream data from your computer to your iphone rather than streaming directly from an internet feed. So although this is very useful, it is probably slightly different to what you're looking for.
In the UK we have a decent BBC TV app which will stream over wifi and 3G (dependent on your provider).
Hmmmmm anyone tried streaming over the web from Hulu or fancast...... both are free.
Edit
ooops both need flash to work. I guess we will have to wait for the long awaited plugin promised by Adobe

You install the Orb server software on your home PC, as well as a TV tuner card. The orb server software is able to stream the tv signal from the tuner card over the internet via .3gp to your phone. Check out their website and search for "android orb" in google. There's tons of threads about it.

Heard back from Sling today on an Android app and they basically said no way it's happening because Android is Linux based and not windows based. Here is the email I got:
As we understand, you want to know if the Slingbox will support the Android Operating System and Mobile device any time soon. We will be more than willing to assist you.
Android is a software platform and operating system for mobile devices, based on the Linux Operating System, developed by Google and later the Open Handset Alliance. It allows developers to write managed code in a Java-like language that utilizes Google-developed Java libraries, but does not support programs developed in native code.
Most of the supported cell phones run on Windows OS. Since Android runs on Linux OS, it is not compatible with the SlingPlayer. Therefore, Slingbox will not support it.
If you require further assistance, feel free to visit http://support.slingmedia.com or contact us at 1-877-GO-SLING (877-467-5464) Monday through Sunday 7am-7pm Pacific Time.
For future reference your case number is XXXXXX.

WTF ... How come Apple always has a leg up??

OK. So yesterday I watched this hilarious link on the Apple Iphone4 on my computer.
Hitler mad with Steve Jobs
I sent this link to my friend as a text message to his iphone 3G which is upgraded to the IOS4 now.
Lo and behold, when he clicked on the link, the flash video was playing on this Iphone 3G.
I tried the link on my HTC Pure, it brought up Opera and simply gave me the message that I need to upgrade to Flash 10. Yeah right.... There is no Flash 10 for the PPC platform.
WTF
Because your friends iphone saw the link as a youtube video and ran it through their special iyoutube player to watch it. Where on your HTC you have opera and it doesn't really support youtube without plugins. I would try skyfire, or just use your own youtube app. WM youtube apps 100 times better the the iphone youtube low resolution app. So when he ran you link, the virtual steve jobs appeared and rerouted his link to play in youtube, where as is always true with windows, it does what you tell it to do. You told it to open a link in opera, and thats what it did. I persoanlly don't want the CEO of HTC to be deciding what app I open what with. It really all depends on how much spoon feeding you want your phone to do. If you want to not think about anything and have it just work or not work, go iphone. If you want to work on it and tinker with it to make anything work, WM's you choice.
Yeah. Emailed it to myself and it worked fine on my EVO... Looks like Apple only "Always has a leg up" only on you. ;-)
this is not a youtube video...
It is Vimeo.
and it ran it through the quicktime player.

Not really. I hear Android has a flash player.... not that I would know or anything.
Vimeo has a special version of the website for iPhone/iPad. It looks up User Agent; and if it finds out iPhone is used, it brings up a compatible version of the site. Many website do this, especially for iPhone because it is popular and doesn't support flash.
The video here was .mp4 for iphone as it is nativity supported.
http://vimeo.com/blog:265
Also Vimeo has a version for Android, while Youtube has mobile version for almost every device.
P.S. If you use Firefox you can change your User Agent with User Agent Switcher for example.
So what is the user agent for the iphone?
i'll stick it on my Opera for WM and see if it works!

You really shouldn't mention being able to get apps for free. A paid app is paid to compensate the developer and even if you aren't directly to the pirated app you are supporting it which goes against everything these forums stand for.

To get orb to work over 3g (should already work over wifi) you will need to edit your RTSP Proxy Address one of two ways...
The first way requires that you know your MSL code for your phone... Enter ##DATA# into your dialer and you will be taken to a hidden menu, from there go in to Multimedia (or 'Edit->Others->Multimedia' if your on DK28 (or other Froyo)) and change the RTSP Address to 0.0.0.0
The second way requires that you have LauncherPro, ADW Ex (newest regular ADW might work too), or Any Cut installed on your phone. Just add a shortcut to one of your home screens and choose 'Activities->com.android.hiddenmenu->Multimedia(.Multimedia_Edit)' (as listed in DK28, may be slightly different in DI18)and then change your address as above. If your running ADW, you may need to choose Custom Shortcut, and click on Pick an activity to create the shortcut.

I've been using droidstreamer for a little over a week now. It does NOT have many vids. But, it does have full length movies and tv shows for streaming. It worked in 3g and 4g for me. And it's free . I usually just download shows and movies to my sd card and play through my video player though.

Streaming video quandary

Am thoroughly enjoying my N7, as I imagine, you are yours!
Here's a quandary I'm facing: I am an Amazon Prime member, and enjoy their video selection--both the free and for sale/rental. I mostly use Linux on my PC's. Amazon's streaming video uses Flash, which works fine in Linux, but not on the N7. I've thought about Netflix, but they're not (and probably never will be) Linux-compatible. However, Netflix is very Android/N7 compatible. All that put together, means I can't find a streaming service that works the way I do.
Anyone else in the same boat? What are you trying as a solution?
I was able to get flash working using Firefox and flash (both were side loaded) I found some helpful information searching on xda on how to get that working. Results have been outstanding for my friend who logs into a flash enabled site for realtor work. Haven't tested amazon videos yet but i will. Important: Chrome does not support Flash and the plan is that it never will.
Netflix works great. I sometimes really hate their isn't more selection. I keep it because my Dad uses it.
HBOgo doesn't work yet. I will be watching for a update because i have Directv and will install it as soon as it is available.
I already pulled some DVD's over (Star Wars, Finding Nemo) Handbreak and other software to get that on the nexus 7, looks and sounds fantastic. Everyone at work went crazy when they saw Emire Strikes back running.
I haven't tried or researched true streaming from my pc on my home network yet. I think that would be fantastic since I have a lot of content stored in avi's and other formats.
So far my tablet and my wife's are just amazing. She has the 8 Gig and I have the 16 Gig. We have both had ours since Tuesday.
I still am on the fence about the damn NexusQ. I would really like one but for 299.00 it just seems like I could buy another nexus 7 or something else instead. If that thing supported more than 2 speakers on its own I would have probably have tried to setup the extra speaker set I have in my office with one of those.
We need to get a really good software suggestion for nexus 7 thread going. Freenote, Moon+ reader, Cloud print, Sprinkle free have all been useful or fun to try. Sketchbook mobile works great. I am waiting on a screen protector before I try drawing with my dagi stylus.
I'm in the same boat...I was thinking about trying to load flash somehow...

I already pulled some DVD's over (Star Wars, Finding Nemo) Handbreak and other software to get that on the nexus 7, looks and sounds fantastic. Everyone at work went crazy when they saw Emire Strikes back running.

In regards to Handbrake what format did you choose when converting the video. I'm guessing it was an avi?
Apple tv 2 is what i pick when I use handbreak, I noticed on the tablet while watching the movie that there are a few sounds streams, pick the 2nd one and you should be able to go higher on the volume.
The files are converted to m4v format and if you put them in the movies folder they show up and run right out of the google play list in the personal videos tab.

well instant video on amazon works in firefox with flash loaded. I'm watching the preview on amazon for 21 jump street.
The full DVD in vob files pulled to my desktop computer is what I start with when using handbrake. I am using a decrypt program to pull to my desktop. Using apple tv 2 option in file mode I am getting m4v format as a result. I need to try some avi files and see what I can come up with as a result.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the Firefox/Flash suggestion...for some reason hadn't thought of that.
