You say it has an SD Card in it? Is it replaceable with a bigger one then? Where is the card located?

I don't think the card is visible. That would be too easy
It must be hidden somewhere so unless you have a proper equipment and don't care about the warranty...

it's under the back case (bottom section with the windows logo on it)
just be warned, changing the sd card requires a phone wipe

This is documented in the why no sd card thread. I am personally going to upgrade to 32gb this xmas when my wife buys me a card I cant wait this will make the pone perfect.

Yeah, but this thread was created before anyone knew that there was an actual SD card in the device.

[Q] Micro SD Flashing method won't work

Hi all. I just got a new X1 a few days ago. Pretty happy to have it, however, I'm having chronic problems flashing a rom on it using the micro SD method. I have a PNY Micro SD card, and after hard spl-ling my phone, I put a rom on the micro SD card in the root, renamed it to KOVSIMG.nbh, powered the phone off. Removed the battery and micro SD, reinserted everything, and when I powered it back up, I got the tri-colored screen, then it said no image file. For some reason, this PNY card isn't being recognized by my computer, so I can't reformat it with my computer. Can somebody please either tell me how to format the card on my X1 or direct me to the most current and reliable USB method thread please. Thanks.
[A] Micro SD Flashing method won't work
Hi x1-pc7,
try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787867
In Summary,
try to copy all your microsd contents somewhere else temporarily. e.g. your pc desk top
FORMAT you SD card as FAT or FAT32.
try the micro SD method.
sorry, i mis-read your post, you knew all that above...
To format your sd micro card, you would need a card reader to format your sd card.
card reader that handles the microsd, or put the micro sd into a sd card adapter, usually provided with the microsd card, and put this into a sd card reader.
Hope this helps!!
Have a Happy New Year!!

Listen. I said that my micro SD does not get recognized by my computer. I have an adapter, but my computer won't recognize it. Read the whole post, and please show me where it talks about how to use the USB method to flash because the micro SD method will absolutely not work for me.
Thanks.
Happy New Year to you too.
usb method is simple
just turn device off.push the volume bottom in(& keep it in) then push power & keep both in until bootloader screen appears.then connect to usb.run Xperia Software Upgrade...Done!

You could try to change your USB to PC setting to "Disk Drive" (Start » Settings » Connections). This way your phone will only show your microSD card instead of both internal memory and SD contents.
See if that enables you to format your SD card.

Not even without the X1, i.e. when using only your adapter?
Sounds like either the card or the adapter is broken - any chance to cross-check with another card/another PC?
Make sure your adapter can handle the card: (µ)SDHC cannot be read by older (µ)SD adapters....

Are you trying to flash your phone? If you do, have you copy the new ROM to the SD card? (in root, not in any folder) And rename the ROM to "KOVSimg.nbh"
Then the boot loader mode will detect the ROM and show instructions.
However, if you're not trying to flash your phone, you don't need to enter the boot loader mode. Just do battery pull, and start your phone normally.

[Q] Power Button broken - can I still upgrade to a larger SD card?

Hey guys,
So I have a Nexus One with a power button that doesn't work (so I use the volume button now instead). I was able to root the phone though, and I downloaded ROM Manager and was able to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery.
My understanding is that I should be able to use ROM Manager to install new ROMs, but I also want to upgrade my SD card storage from 4GB to 8GB. From what I've found, it sounds like it takes some formatting and partitioning of the SD card and requires booting into Recovery mode by holding down the Power Button and the Volume Up key - problem is, as you know, that my power button doesn't work.
Is there any way for me to upgrade my SD card that doesn't involve using the power button? I know that ROM Manager has the option to boot into recovery mode, but that brings me to a screen with a triangle, with an exclamation mark and a green Android, and nothing happens. Same thing when I try to use QuickBoot to boot into recovery mode.
I tried looking around to see if there was a thread that would answer my question, but couldn't find one so I'm starting a new thread. If there is a thread that answers this, my apologies - please point me to it.
I hope I was able to provide enough information. Hopefully I'm not S.O.L, and I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks!
It's not necessary to partition SD card unless you flash sense roms or u want to use dt script or s2e to move data to sdext.so you can change your sd card.
I think you should try to flash recovery Again through ROM manager or terminal (try to flash alternate recovery through ROM manager too )

Thanks amolji, you said a few things that I don't quite get since I haven't had to deal with them (dt script, s2e, sdext, etc).
So would I be ok with just a copy and paste of data from the old SD card to the new one? I should point out that I've moved over quite a few apps to my SD card, so if I do decide to copy/paste data to the new SD card, will the apps that are on the SD card launch properly once I've copied them over?

You should be OK. I went from a 4GB to a 16GB card.
-copy content of old sd card to PC
-format new sd card (might not be necessary but I format all new sd card)
-copy contents from PC to new sd card

You must change the card reader, it only cost ~$10-$15

yes thats what i think the problem is about because i had this message storage card not working even though the sim card was not inserted.
by right the problem is not with the sdcard because it is a class 4 approved card. its the reader i think. But i also had errors in wifi not connecting
it is a known fact that HTC uses cheap quality or inferior made parts in their phones.
but how to ensure thats the problem it could be anything including motherboard faulty .
or antenna faulty
best thing is sell the phone for spare parts and get a new one...

like stated above, it is the problem of the sdcard and sim card reader, u need to change it .
as the htc phones mainly use sdcard sas storage compared to nand,. they constantly keep working ust like yr pc card reader.. and will get burnt quite easily
If the HTC hd7 says you have an incompatible card, the os will run really slow and not even boot. For 16 GB needs to be class 2 SanDisk. For 32 gbs it should work with all 32gb class 2 and 4 SanDisk micro sds. Can't use cheap micro sds on our phones. And don't forget to format the card holding volume down button to access crc menu.

because it's a well documented fact(here on XDA) that the class restriction does not apply anymore, just look how many user are using class 6-10 on their phones, even the 64GB SDXC on different brands not just sandisk.

sd card mount problem

Hi guys, I can safely unmount the sd card from my z1 fine. But when I put the sd card back in, the phone does not read it. I have to restart the phone in order to use the sd card again. Any ideas???
The Phone has to be turned off when you insert/take out the SD card otherwise you can mess something up

I agree with you on this one, this is the safest way but the feature of the card and phone is Plug&Play so it should work too even powered on.
Try this way, reboot the phone with the card insert into it, then click "Unmount SD card", wait until message will appear "now you can remove the card" then a message will be on the phone saying, Card Removed, close all the notifications and go back to menu, wait a minute, insert the card again. Do you read the card?
thank you
Thank you for the replies I will try again tomorrow as i dont have the phone in front of me at the moment and i will let you know
ok guys it must have been a freak of the moment because now it works fine! thank you for the help!
I have the same issue with 64GB SDXC and my Z1s. Other cards 32GB or less work fine without reboot.

I got 64GB SDXC and I don't have this problems. You just have to follow the steps, close notifications and wait between one process and another to let the phone to read the card.

do you keep taking out the card or does the message just comes up without you removing/insert the card.

thank you guys for your quick reply. Apologize for the insufficient info. Okay, initially when I inserted the card, the tab is in off mode. Once I powered it up, I didn't get that message. I straight away go to my files and the sd card content is already there, so I thought that is normal, but after a while that message cames on. It goes off once you touch anywhere on the screen or the soft keys. This thing happened on and on. the only thing I haven't done is formatting the card. I gonna try that method afterwards. wish me luck...>_<

It is always best to go through the procedures when insert or removing the sd card, use the menu and unmounts the SD card then format, it's best not to continuous taking out the SD card, even though you can do that.
hmm.... I believe I have tried doing all the method mention before. no joy... formatting process unable to complete(using onboard programme), its only done half way before that message appear again....tried several times....still the same....can't format using PC(ahh....couldn't find my card reader)..so I've concluded that I have to change a new card...even though previously all the content inside works flawlessly. anyway....thanks all for the advices given.
I had that problem with an old microSD and my T810. Changing it with a new one (faster and best branded) solved the problem.
No more messages.

There are two more method you can try, download the Panasonic SD formatter and use that program to format the SD card, or you can format the card using a old nokia phone that runs on the old S40 OS.

I had a 16gb sandisk do this on my s2, swapped it yesterday for a newer, faster 64gb card and so far so good. I'd try a different card or buy a new one.

wow... I wanna give this method a try, looks very promising....
I can't guarantee that the SD formatter work, but it's. A very good program made by the SD association, but the Nokia one has a good chance, previously I has some dead micros, and some that will not detect, even on a PC, the nokia fixed it.
