[app] TURN YOUR SPRINT EPIC 4G INTO A VERIZON PHONE!!!! - Epic 4G Themes

A friend of mine gave me this awesome app that basically lets your phone roam on Verizons network! This is by far the best app I've used. I work at the lower level at my job so my phone is constantly scanning towers and has poor signal while on the sprint network. The end result is excessive battery drain. When I force roam on verizon's network, I get a full 5 bars and my battery lasts 50% longer. Attached is the apk. Enjoy! (This requires root access)
Edit: Sorry guys, I was told that this is a paid app so it has to come down.

Reversable?

Absolutely! Just select automatic mode and you'll be back to normal

Works to switch

Seems to work to switch but for some reason my cell phone will not get any service at all with ROAM ONLY toggled
works fine in automatic and in home only modes
I have 3-5 bars sprint service here but I find it hard to believe there would be no verizon service here and for that I think that this may not be working for me properly not saying it doesn't work just saying it doesn't seem to be working for me.
I am home at my house btw

That's odd. It works just fine for me. I'm on a stock rooted rom. Are you using a custom rom?

Be careful. I've heard if you are on roaming for too much of the month, sprint will cancel your service.

Yes, that is correct. Please only use this in areas where sprint service is unavailable or poor. Do not leave it on roam all the time. I only use it at work and I hardly make calls while on it. I just enjoy the extended battery life without having to go on airplane mode. As soon as I leave work, I put it back to automatic.

Thank you,
Thank you so much, I never have a good reception at home and as soon as I changed it to roam only with this app, it was like BAM! 3~4 bars.
Even the voicemail works! WOOOT!

Fyi this is a paid app. Your not suppose to distribute.

Edit: App has been pulled. Mods, please close this thread. Thanks.

I see it in the Market, but it requires rooted phone...
If not, what is the name of the app?

It is roam control that the op was talking about and yes you need root

sweet thanks, i'll check it out.

The app works just as advertised, but is there any way to automate it, or a similar app that has that feature?
Meaning, my work building is like the Sprint service black hole, but I get perfect service when roaming on Verizon's tower. Yes, I could manually switch using this app every time I get to work to save battery and then manually switch when I leave, but I'd love if there was a way to make this app do it automatically or another app that has that feature where it would always switch to whatever tower had the strongest signal strength.
Is there anything out there?

Awww man. When you said verizon phone, I was hoping for a Bing makeover!

Can I shut off LTE?

My Atrix HD is arriving on Friday. I will be using Straight Talk so I have no use for LTE...its also not available in my area anyhow.
Is it possible to disable or shut off the LTE radio to preserve battery life?

I messed with the same idea for the first couple of days and came to the conclusion that the only way to turn off the 4G and LTE antennas was to completely turn off the cellular data, at least with the stock software. If you look in the Play store, you should be able to find an app that will toggle the 3G/4G/LTE radios which would leave you with only normal cellular data. In fact, this is one of the things that Juice Defender does automatically by default when you put your phone into standby.
Yeah, I realized that after I got my phone, no independent LTE control. Every time I use Juice Defender I miss emails and have data issues...maybe it's better now...I don't know.
I hope a replacement back cover becomes available soon. I want to try that RAZR MAXX battery mod.

I use an app called "power toggles", it seems to do a good job of turning off 3G/4G/Wifi whenever I want to, not when the phone thinks it should. however as it's just a widget and doesn't monitor the states or anything the "smart actions" on the atrix do tend to reset some settings from time to time but mobile data does stay off for me.
Not sure about the AT&T model but the Bell one has a setting for changing from GSM only or HSPA only and GSM/HSPA/LTE (auto mode)

The nearest lte is an hour from me. Ive had this phone for almost a month now and didnt even know that lte shows up under the 4g icon until i went to houston two nights ago which is an hour away. Gotta say i love lte. My problem is i use my smart phones to the max. Any data shutoff can only happen when i sleep which isnt much. I went from the original atrix to the hd. I love the phone but it stays pluged in the majority of the day. Im guessing its searching for lte all the time. I get 3-4 hrs till dead constantly. If someone can help point me in the right direction to turn off lte i wouldsure be great full. The att rep gave me the normal speil that lte is coming any day then quietly told me any day is six months or more. I dont mind doing battery mods but i would rather not. I wasted money on the power skin. Its fine if u dont use the phone while the skin is on. It makes the phone act screwy. I just want to use my "wireless" phone wirelessly.

If you want to extend battery life you can disable "Data Network", doing so will turn off all carrier data network connectivity. Turn it on to get updates or email as needed. Keeping it on 100% of the time is not necessary. You'll still be able to send and receive calls and text messages. Nothing that requires data Network will be received or accessable (i.e. Internet, SMS, eMail, Facebook, etc...) while it is disabled.
ZDBox is a great tool for manging a phones resources and it has a great wedget that can be configured to allow for quick enabling / disabling of wifi, data network, gps, sycn, etc...

Nexus 4 Tmobile support docs - Wifi calling confirmed ?

Just checked Tmobile support site and they already uploaded Nexus 4 support documents.
Tmobile support site /docs/DOC-5015 (sorry, not enough posts count to post link.)
Wifi calling is clearly listed there and supported. (In contrast, Visual VM is listed as not support)
They require a TM9-177 sim card but the 99c microSIM from Tmobile is TM9-190. Not sure if that will make a diff.
Keep my fingers crossed for now.
Here's the link
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5015#WiFi_Calling
I realize the answer is probably no but still want to ask. Would a straight talk t mobile sim enable WiFi calling? If not where does WiFi calling start (eg t mobile prepaid, two year contract)?

T-mobile's 99 cent sim card is full size. the 177 may be the micro version. I plan to cut my own.
It appears to be a setting on the OS itself, like a voip setting:
see below: there is no wifi calling app:
Set up Wi-Fi / Internet Calling
To turn on Wi-Fi Calling, follow these steps:
Important: To use Wi-Fi Calling, you must register your 9-1-1 address at my.t-mobile.com. If you have not registered your address, your phone will display a red Wi-Fi Calling icon. When you open the Notification screen, you will see the following error message: Wi-Fi Calling error. Error: REG09 "Missing911 Address."
From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
Tap the Menu icon.
Tap Settings.
Scroll to and tap Internet call settings.
Under Account, set up a new calling account with information specific to your calling plan..

Again, T-Mobile is not allowed to mess with the software or Google wouldn't let them sell it. So WiFi calling in an app form will not happen. What the user said above about setting up WiFi calling is different, and that is fine since its within the software

Exactly, I have made the imp information bold now. Document does not say launch wifi calling app to enable it. There is no wifi calling app installed. It says go to Phone app and set it up. Looks like tmobile is using Androids VOIP feature?

I don't think you quite understood my question. Straight talk works on both tmobile and att depending on the sim you get. My questions is if you can use the wifi calling through them. If you could the tmobile would be awesome becasue it has faster data and less coverage. The coverage would work better via wifi if the signal was low otherwise.
Man I really hope so. That's the one thing I really miss about my old tmo phones. I don't use wifi calling often but its a big help to have when its needed like at a hospital with wifi

Are we talking about WiFi calling now being like sip?
I am speculating this. Can people with GNex try to follow the steps in the document and see if it works?
If it is an OS (4.1 or 4.2) feature and tmobile has worked around it to accommodate wifi calling then it should work on Gnex as well.

The document doesn't actually give you the sip settings so I see no way to add an account without that info.
Wifi calling doesn't mean much to me since I don't use a lot of minutes anyways. But this is good for everyone else that does.

I use monthly4G and loved Wi-Fi calling on my Exhibit for my area because of poor reception.

Sprint reception is awful

i just upgraded from the evo 3d 4g isnt available in my area im in Monterey county but i was exacting the same speeds that i was getting with the evo 3d but this is just ridiculous, maybe i got a faulty radios with this device because my evo 3d was never this slow or is there something with the setting i can change to make it better i was really amped up to get this phone but at this point i am disappointed and want to return it
Try updating the PRL and Profile.
I have the exact opposite experience coming from the Nexus S 4G. S4 seems to receive the 3G signal better, and I am very pleased with the LTE coverage so far. I am in Minneapolis, so YMMV...

Your local tower/site might be being upgraded to LTE. If so, you should expect some down time. My site literally went offline for a few days (100% roaming on Verizon) until they finished whatever upgrade they were doing. Got LTE about a week later. But as stated, your mileage may vary.

My S4 is the same speed on 3g as my Evo 4G LTE and as our S3. I used Speedtest to verify. I'd take the phone into a Sprint store and run Speedtest on it compared to their display model. Turn wireless off on both phones first, of course.

I'm coming from a Nexus S 4G too and this phone has so much better reception, especially wifi. Don't really get LTE that often though, which is kind of disappointing because I actually had pretty good WiMAX coverage. But I know LTE coverage will only get better with time.
Signal != Data speed. If your signal is good but your data speed is slow, it's most likely that the sector is overloaded or the site is currently backhaul limited. It sounds like the site you connect to hasn't had Network Vision upgrades yet. Go familiarize yourself with Network Vision over at s4gru.com.
Call sprint before you return it. I had the same thing. I had great signal with my HTC Evo 3d and when I switched to the S4, I was dropping calls like crazy and with 1 bar or no signal. Found out that they were updating the towers and I also have 4g in my area now. Woot!

[Q] Has anyone manage to connect to metro pcs gsm?

I figured I would try asking. I get edge data and calls are working. No 4G though and I havent tried MMS yet. I called metro's tech support for their apn settings and they don't seem to work.
If you have your ATT Note 3 working on Metro's gsm service, please share your settings/experience here. Any ideas on how to get this working would also be great. Thanks in advance! :good:
I bought two Note 3s and gave one to my friend who's on metro. Everything works perfect for him, 4g, MMS and everything else.
He Input his APN settings so I'm not sure if he did anything else. When I get off work in the morning I'll ask him if he did anything specific besides the APN settings and let you know.

Yeah, I have tried LTE/GSM auto; LTE/GSM/CDMA auto; and a few different other ones. I always only end up with edge.
I have a question for you, did you buy the phone and stick your sim card in, or did you actually go to the Metro store and have them program the sim for the phone? Metro's sim cards work different than most gsm carrier sim cards =/

I went to an actual metro pcs store and bought the sim. The employee scanned the bar code on the back of my phone, so I'm guessing they programmed it specifically for my phone.

No go on the apn settings. I am planning on driving out to LA sometime later this week and will check out whether this lack of LTE is only in my area. Sucks coming from metro's great cdma service.
Also quickvic has a good point about the password, although I'm thinking tyiphius friend's apn settings were installed automatically
Anyone know where I can buy a N900A note 3 that will work on Metro LTE?

How to enable Download Booster (untested)

Just found this, haven't had a chance to test it out, but it shows that it is activated.
Using Nova as you launcher: long press on homescreen, go to shortcuts and then Activities. Expand Settings and you'll see a label for Download Booster. This will put the shortcut on your home screen, from there you can activate it.
As I said I have not tested a download so don't skewer me if it doesn't work.

As I said I have not tested a download so don't skewer me if it doesn't work.View attachment 2680371

testing out now. will report soon
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work. I downloaded a 50MB test file -- LTE never kicked in. The entire file was downloaded over WiFi. Damn, this workaround looked promising
Thanks for the tip, though. Maybe (hopefully) this helps speed the process along to actually get it implemented for us.
doesn't appear to be working. I enabled it but it doesn't show any toggle to turn on when your downloading files and there is no notification saying its working.
OMG THAT WORKS. It is there. Wow. You are the best.
EDIT: I CAN CONFIRM IT DOESN'T WORK.
Doesn't work, but you can also use anycut to get to that menu. Just so everyone knows.

Despite it NOT working, I think we are really onto something here. This means they left the feature in the phone, they just turned it off somewhere. Maybe if we can get root, a developer can find a way to turn this on somehow. I don't need the toggle.

+1. This tells us that it's there, but most likely permanently frozen, or broken in AT&Ts TouchWiz purposely. I'm sure through rooting it can be brought in, once it's better understood on the phone versions that do have it.

whoa nice find! you might've started a paper trail to a workaround :good:
I thought AT&T was going to enable it at a future date?

That's what the rumor was/is. The reasoning behind that: they disabled it due to software not being ready on their end in time for the official launch. Considering other US carriers also disabled it (Verizon, Sprint, etc) I find that rumor hard to believe. My guess is the only way we'll see the feature on our phones is through a root method, unfortunately.
Ok, stupid question, but, how can you tell if it IS working? Is there a benchmark operation that we KNOW works on the TMO model which has it activated that we can see if it actually doesn't work? Just curious....not challenging anyone's reporting, but wondering if the download doesn't meet the criteria for it....

I enabled it on our phone and went to download the game "Fast 6" which is over 200 MB big download from the Play Store... that was the same test done I saw on a T-Mobile S5 and download booster was working in full swing.. I repeated that screenshot on my end and the download booster icon (event though it was there) never lit up and displayed stats like that T-Mo screenshot did.

So you're saying it does work, just doesn't have a visual indicator (the icon doesn't turn white) that it's working? Cuz, I'm kinda ok with that until they "officially" turn it on (not holding my breath) in the next OTA update.....

well, it "activates" but almost looks like a dummy activation, because it's not doing what it should be doing according to all the screenshots out there. I don't know if it was actually downloading faster or not... I have 50Mbps wifi and 20Mbps LTE where I live

Yeah, so I "tested" the download six times, 3 sets of 2, for the first 100mb, three times with DB "enabled" and three times just on wifi. No significant result. The timing was practically identical (no statistical significance between the two sets). Oh well.....maybe on the next update ROTFLMAO!
i have the T-mobile version unlocked and on ATT. see screenshot.
FYI- After enabling DB, you can uninstall Nova Launcher and DB is still 'enabled', even after a reboot.
Thread cleaned.

Are you having any troubles with your T-Mo S5 on AT&T? How did you unlock it?
Thanks So Much
