Has anyone worked out how to pump the sound out of the front stereo speakers instead of the back one yet?
I've been fiddling with the recently re-appeared Sound Enhancer yet I still cant get any sound coming from the front!

they are not actually speakers, just part of the design.
Surely it would be a bit strange to have stereo speakers on the front as well as a speaker on the back?
Funny you should say that now, I just checked the HTC website and found nothing on the specs about it, but I've been reading everywhere else that there are front mounted stereo speakers in pretty much every review, which kind of makes sense for the design....
A final note is also merited regarding the HD7's front-mounted stereo speakers.

Yeah I have read the same thing.
I dont have the phone ,so cant check it out.
Surely though if they were indeed stereo speakers there would be no need for trickery to get them to work.
I will admit thought the link I posted above is the only place I have read that they are NOT speakers.

Mind you saying about trickery, half of the HTC apps havent been working up until today and even today some of them won't start up. So I'm hoping I've just missed something because the stereo speakers definitely would be a nice touch.
Hi, speakers have magnets, check with something metal...for egz. needle, it's ligth, check first with back speaker if it works and then on the front...
top front grill can lift a pin, bottom front grill the pin stays on my desk,
I cant decide if the pin is sticking to the top grill due to the strength of the magnet in the rear speaker, or if its due to a second speaker in the grill for when the phone is held to the users ear
The needle test is not a good one. We know there is speaker at the top front for normal conversations yet my needle does not stick there at all.
So it has speaker on the back for sure. Do you guys really believe that HTC mounted 3 loud speakers on that device?
I would say there's only the one on the rear and the one for the earpeice.
So far I've noticed the grills tend to collect dust/dirt which is VERY annoying!!!
I posted support question to HTC asking about front speakers from reviews. Got reply yesterday that I might be confusing device as I speak about sorround unit.
I did tell them no HTC HD7.
However today I got a reply saying he looked at the device and other reviews and now knows what I mean. He will investigate.
I believe there has been some confusion regarding the front facing speakers.
I reckon that although they look like speakers that are no more than grills for the earpiece and mic respectively. (which if you think about it makes sense)
I imagine the engineering side of HTC failed to properly communicate this with the press side, and people started assuming they were stereo speakers based on looks alone.
No where in the official specs does it mention front facing speakers.

But the microphone is clearly next to the USB port on the bottom.
I have also saw a video somewhere where someone is reviewing it and points out that the top speaker is a speaker and the bottom "speaker" a microphone and the HTC person corrects him and tells him they're both speakers.
can't owners do a quick test? play some music then cover up firmly each speaker in turn (with thumb maybe) and see if sound gets muffled or low.

there is no speakers at the front of the phone apart from the earpiece above the htc logo
There are definately stereo speakers on the front, one at the top and one at the bottom under the grills. There is also a third speaker on the back, yes three in all!!
I have done extensive sound listening tests to confirm this and it is most noticable if you turn Dolby Mobile on in the Sound Enhancer section which gives a better stereo separation effect. You really have to play music on the handset to hear all three speakers.
The front stereo speakers are not listed in any of the spec I have seen but this is a complete bonus as far as I am concerned. It will even be a huge benefit for sat nav applications guidance voice when they become available.

Yes the specs do not mention the front speakers however, they do mention virtual surround dolby mobile. now anyone would know that virtual surround requires at least 2 speakers ant opposing ends of the device otherwise how could it trick your hearing? I think that though it does not mention "front facing" speakers that there will be indeed 3 speakers or sort.
Speaking of speakers, has anyone found that when linking to Bluetooth A2DP or 3.5mm jack the volume is really low? if I have it on in the car I have to put the volume on about 25 and the stereo on really high too and its quite distorted, doesn't matter which input but my Touch Pro 2 never had this low volume.

That sadly means nothing. Virtual surround could be only available via headphones and they could still advertise it.

Funny I did notice that. However when I first copied my music files some were louder then now. I think Zune is forcing the Volume leveling as all my music files are now of the same loudness.

I think you are clutching at straws here.
Cover the rear speaker with your finger and take note of the sound coming from the 'front speakers'.
All you will hear is sound leaking through the case from rear speaker.
If you seriously think that the front speakers are actually speakers, then you must admit to them being the worst speakers in the world!
Also, the different surround modes (dolby etc) are probably intended for use with headphones.
Not speakers, just a bit of artistic license with the design

All the reviews mention that the speakers at the bottom are stereo speakers, but I'm having my doubts. (Either that, or I've got to envoke the VIP service yet again...)
Facing the front, I have a strong suspicion that the left speaker does absolutely nothing. (Tested by holding my thumb over it while music is playing...) The right speaker is very easy to block, but the left one does nothing.
Anybody else notice this? Sad but true, I use them quite a bit when listening to music in an empty office...

Is anyone else experiencing distortion with their external speaker? My ringtones begin to distort around 1/4 volume and very noticeable 1/2 and up. Does the same for notifications. Not as noticeable during videos and music but still present.
Just trying to figure out if mine is partying for the course or a dud. Thanks in advance for any input.

If you hold your finger or hand very close to speaker, mine has distortion too.
Hand placement doesn't really seem to affect it...
no distortion at all on mine.
I noticed when playing louder videos or when im on speakerphone and the person is talking there is a bit distortion in the sound sort of a tiny bit of fuzz and i noticed this also on my egde plus and a bunch of store models as well can anybody confirm? I mean its not bad but still my phones are $700-$800.

My speakers sounds (imo) awful, it's distorted and warbly (sp?). For a phone with such good headphone audio I don't understand why the speaker (or in the surround sound mod) both speakers sound so bad. They both have that issue for external audio, haven't tested call audio yet because I never really take calls and the one I did I forgot to notice.
No issues here. Probably dirt getting in with the speaker, the grill holes are pretty sizable.

Not minutes after I opened the box. I THINK I may have a lead as to why it's bad. If you listen closely and FEEL the phone. It appears to me that the low notes are resonating with the glass back panel (or something/everything else, whatever it is) and causing vibrations that both warble and distort the sound and speaker(s). I could certainly be wrong, but that's what I'm hearing. As for a fix, I haven't a clue, if I'm wrong and it's software, I haven't a clue. I don't have near enough time to do non-guided digging into this. Only what little listening I do with speakers. (Considering I'd rather use what comes out of my CXN).

I am unsure how the dual speakers are set up (one on bottom plus the earpiece or both on the bottom) but my phone only has sound from the bottom left speaker hole. I do not see any settings to enable or disable the stereo speakers. Has anyone else experienced this issue and is there a fix? Or do I just have a lemon?

Same here. 2/3 bottom left 1/3 from earpiece. Did you Figuren out if it is a Problem vor a "feature"?
A lot of phones have dual grilles at the bottom but it doesn't mean they have two speakers there. I think Axon M has one speaker at the top and one at the bottom. If you are watching a video at landscape orientation, both speakers are used at tandem.

I think you're right. Most reviews also speak of one bottom speaker.
It's a bit strange anyways, that the earpiece speaker's volume is about the half of the bottom speaker. So the stereo effect is a bit weak. It's ok for me and it sounds quiet good but compared to my former Axon 7 it is a definite degradation.
Does the V40 have stereo speakers?
I've seen some reviews that say both yes and no. LG's website shows a sound wave graphic coming out of both the top speaker and the bottom. The leaks prior to it's release said that it does. So I'm very confused as to whether or not it has stereo speakers.

In the graphic you speak of, I see where they can 'cheat' the idea that the sound is coming from all over - but only after having the phone, turning up the volume while holding it as the whole phone vibrates with sound. Put it on a hard surface and the sound is amplified even more. Put the speaker side up to the back of a countertop and the sound is not only loud, it comes at you from all angles.
I get needing stereo if you hold the phone up close ... but with this phone, anything further away than 3 to 4 feet and only the finest of audiophiles will be able to tell the difference from the V40 to any other phone with stereo ... after 6 feet no one will know stereo from the V40 but everyone will appreciate the volume it can pump out.

Be aware that stereo signals might affect your perception of them. Try turning on mono audio in accessibility settings.
As far as physical differences go, they are indeed different in size. You can see it here:

After 2 weeks of owning this phone, I just noticed it now. Bottom speaker does sound louder than a top speaker. So disappointed to find out that both speakers aren't equal I bought this phone mainly for front stereo speakers.
I think Top speaker is an earphone doubling as speaker. Bottom speaker is a dedicated speaker.
I noticed something strange. After turned off the phone for a few minutes and then turn it back on, now both speakers sound balanced just like when i just got the phone and had not noticed this issue until now. Please try turning off the phone, not restart.

I hope Asus releases updates that allows user to adjust the balance of stereo. I think it's also the stereo frequencies in each content. some music, video, and games are noticeably louder on bottom speaker, and some are louder on top speaker.
I just turn on mono audio when the speakers are in use. The stereo separation doesn't work well enough for me, and it just sounds fuller.
I'm also aware that the phone has 2 vibration motors, but I noticed the vibration is much stronger at the bottom, anyone noticed this?

I can definitely relate to this. But overall, I'm very satisfied with the quality of the speakers.
Do y'all have your bottom speaker blown out or distorted?
guys Ive owned several stereo phones before and almost all of them sound differently, you just need to turn on Mono audio as other's have mentioned too.
this phone has great speakers, reminds me of my HTC 820 boomsound speaker which were pretty loud back in the day, but this is loud and clear!

@Mike845 Thanks for posting this issue as I am also facing the same issue. I am skeptical as this being a hardware issue because I saw jerryrigeverything's video on YouTube and top speaker is indeed smaller than the bottom one.
I want to know that are the top bottom speaker should be of same intensity or is there a problem with my unit. Also if buttom speakers are loud than top one and there is no issue then I am very angry with Asus as one of the reason for buying this phone was dual front firing stereo speakers.

Yes at high volume bottom speaker does sound distorted.
Tweak for balancing speaker audio
Okay, first of all switch off and reboot (not restart) your phone.
Then go to AudioWizard, switch to normal mode if not already then don't exceed the volume beyond 10 notch. Now check, speakers would be balanced and clear.
It becomes unbalanced only after 10 notches where only bottom speakers volume gets increased and not top. Also beyond 10 there could be distortion in bottom speaker.

I don't know how YouTubers are saying that Rog has got the best display ever, paid reviews probably. These YouTubers are taking people for granted.
Asus's image processing is just ****, black crush, red tint and what not.
I don't know why I went with this when OnePlus 7 pro was equally priced. Regretting my decision.
